Here's my summer tip: don't overthink your dogs' meals.

My pups love just fresh from just food for dogs, complete, balanced, fresh, shelf-staple meals that go everywhere from New York City to weekends in the Hamptons.

I mean, you can have real food ready to go for your pup anywhere.

No cooler, no hassle, just grab and go.

I've seen the difference.

Healthier coats, more energy, tails wagging at mealtime.

Biggie and smalls love it, and I'm all about stuff that just makes sense when life is busy.

Welcome to Wednesday One Shots, the bi-weekly series where we share a bonus story with you in the middle of the week.

This time around, we have a story by Tonkatsu.

And this isn't your typical Let's Not Meet story.

Let's say it's not your average stalker.

My parents live in a fairly remote area in the UK with many fields surrounding the house, including a large wheat field and a bypass road running alongside it.

Back when I lived with them in 2002, I was in my early twenties.

For context, I'm a male, and I would often walk back home quite late at night after being at the pub or a friend's place.

But I would always take a shortcut through the field.

As I was walking, I could see into the house even when I was about ten minutes away.

One night at around 3 a.m.

I was coming back from a friend's place.

I was a little drunk and stoned, but as usual, I crossed the field.

At this time, the wheat in the field was at least waist high,

and when I was about halfway through it, I got a bit paranoid.

I have a hell of an imagination, so I often scare myself when I'm out in the dark.

I was constantly looking around and behind me.

The field was wide open, so I could see all around myself for a long way.

But my paranoia kept me wondering if if someone was hiding in the wheat.

I wasn't seriously considering this, but it did come to mind, since I was drunk and a bit stoned, and it was 3 a.m.

I turned back to face my house just as something smacked into the side of my head and almost knocked me to the ground.

Adrenaline started kicking in as time seemed to freeze.

I had the time to form a whole scenario where someone had thrown something at me, then ducked down.

In a panic, I looked all around, and I saw something just a few meters away, about the size of a football, seemingly hanging in the air, twisting, a couple of feet just above the wheat.

I couldn't make out what it was, as it was dark, until this huge pair of wings emerged from the shape, and a large white barn owl glided away silently.

It was the the owl that had hit me in the face.

The owl seemed like it might be circling back around, so I ran all the way home without incident and managed to crawl in bed.

Being drunk, I fell asleep right away and thought nothing more of it.

The next day at breakfast, my mom asked, Where did you get that cut?

When I looked in the mirror, I saw that I had a large scratch across my temple where it had hit.

I told her about what happened, and her response was, yeah, owls can be proper shits.

Anyway, the cut my mom had remarked about was just a bad scratch, nothing serious, and so that was the end of it, until later that evening.

Our house directly neighbors and looks out over that field.

Almost as soon as it got dark, that very same owl came and perched on our garage roof and looked in through the window.

Now we just laughed about it, but nobody dared go outside.

That week, it came back three times and did the same thing.

By the next week, it had stopped coming, thankfully, so we basically forgot about it.

But then one night, about a month later, I was walking along the road next to the field into town.

Once again I didn't hear anything, but as I glanced back, I saw a flash of white as it flew by and perched on a street light behind me.

As I walked down the street, it would fly across the road onto the next street light.

It did this again and again.

It kept flying and perching so that it was always on the street light directly behind me.

Presumably, I got to the end of its territory after about ten minutes, as it eventually stopped, and it watched me until I essentially walked over the horizon.

We saw that owl again a few times after this, but nothing menacing happened.

Still, it was weird that we hadn't seen it before all of this started happening.

Then suddenly, it just had it in for me.

And my mom was right.

Owls can be shits.

So to the goblin king owl form, who seemed to have a taste for human blood, let's not meet.
