Hey, folks, Erin here.
Welcome back to another edition of Deeper Lore, a bonus episode that's designed to serve as a topical guide to the most recent episode of lore.
Have you ever wondered where you can find more episodes on the topic you just heard about?
Did this particular type of folklore get you interested in keeping that vibe going?
Did the newest episode of lore make you want to go deeper into a particular topic?
Well, that's the purpose of Deeper Lore.
So in this short bonus episode, I'll dig into our vast 10-year archive and point out some old episodes that fit nicely with this week's newest one.
The hope is that you can keep this spooky feeling going well into the weekend, putting a handful of episodes into a new, more powerful context.
So let's get started, shall we?
This week for episode 287, It Takes a Village, we return to the granddaddy of European folklore, witch trials.
But unlike so many other explorations of this topic, this week's episode aims a bit lower than I level to focus on children.
But it's not the first time that we've wandered away from the typical witch trial stereotype.
So here are three older episodes that will pair up nicely with this week's new one.
First up, episode 25, The Cave.
I like to think of this one as sort of a cross between the typical witchcraft stories and the mafia, all set on the small Chilean island of Chile.
This is a disturbing episode, but it's also a fan favorite.
So give it a listen.
and enjoy the ride.
Next, download episode 140, Potential.
When we think of witch trials, we rarely think of Italy, but as this classic episode demonstrates, fear and paranoia are universal, although the way they impact a community is often reflective of the culture there.
I love this old episode, so do check it out.
And finally, there's episode 156, Bottled Up.
Not all witch stories are the same, and to dismiss all of them because you've heard a handful of them is to miss out on some truly amazing folklore.
This particular episode visits a small English town called Canuden and their history with white magic as a defense against the darker forces in the world.
And there you go, my friends.
Follow up this week's brand new episode with a trip into the past.
