Hey folks, Erin here.
Welcome to Deeper Lore, a short bonus episode designed to be a topical guide.
With Deeper Lore, my goal is simple.
There are a lot of episodes in our catalog, and it's hard to track specific ones down, even for me, trust me.
So, if a new lore episode reminded you of other past episodes on the same topic, or if it maybe sparked your interest in learning more about it, then this bonus episode is designed to point you in the right direction.
To that end, this week's new lore, 252 Until Death, is all about frightening folklore that falls under the umbrella of love and marriage.
And it kind of makes sense, doesn't it?
The deepest stories often have some powerful emotional component.
And what's more powerful than love, right?
That's not to say that things don't get weird in this episode.
You get to explore ghost weddings, which yes, are exactly what they sound like, and are also incredibly fascinating and creepy.
And we make sure to cover a couple of really well-known, really terrifying wedding legends, partly for the entertainment factor, for sure, but also because these are foundational stories and essential to any folklore greatest hits collection.
And if you found our wedding journey to be intriguing, here are three older episodes that are related and might be fun to revisit.
First up, go grab episode 125 Paper Trails.
This one is sort of a true crime adventure that follows a lonely heart's killer.
Love in this story is a tool, a weapon really, and it leads to a number of brides and a lot of tragedy.
I think that you'll enjoy it.
Next, we listen to 221 Remote Control.
We get a bit chemical in this one and magical, because if you ask someone about love and folklore, you're inevitably going to have someone bring up love spells.
We can find them in a lot of cultures around the world, but at the end of the day, they all aim to do one important thing, right?
Bring two people together.
A common side effect, though, is tragedy.
So give it a listen and find out how.
And finally, you can't go wrong with last year's Lord Legends 14 Scared Straight.
Again, love is the catalyst for some frightening stories, this time pulled from some less socially acceptable pairings in days gone by.
I don't want to spoil it for you if you haven't heard it yet, but I think my favorite tale in this episode is the Irish couple who runs away together.
The results are tragic, but the story is so good.
So there you go.
Follow up this week's brand new episode with a trip into the past.
