It's Tuesday, March 18th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update. Trump and Putin strike a temporary deal after a two-hour call to discuss the war in Ukraine.
Daily Wire White House correspondent Mary Margaret Olihan has the details. Both leaders agreed to launch immediate talks on an energy infrastructure ceasefire, followed by technical negotiations for a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea and then a full permanent peace.
While Putin did not commit to Trump's proposed 30-day ceasefire, which Ukraine supports, the White House said negotiations will begin right away. The leaders also highlighted the potential for improved U.S.-Russia relations, including major economic deals and geopolitical stability.
In a statement to Russian media, Putin said Russia and Ukraine will each exchange 175 prisoners. Russia will also release 23 seriously wounded Ukrainian servicemen who are also reportedly being treated in Russian medical institutions.
The call is considered a good first step. President Trump announced that 80,000 files related to the assassination of President John F.
Kennedy will be released today without redaction. The files will be part of the remaining records related to the assassination, which has been the subject of numerous conspiracy theories.
Although experts don't expect major revelations, the public has long awaited more details. These files will include information on Lee Harvey Oswald's activities and possible foreign connections, as well as other intelligence gathered at the time.
While most documents have been released, about 3,000 files have remained partially or fully undisclosed. Chief Justice John Roberts says impeaching a judge is not an appropriate response to a ruling.
The statement follows a judge blocking deportation flights to El Salvador. Daily Wire Deputy Managing Editor Tim Rice has more.
This comes after President Trump called for the impeachment of Judge James Boesberg for his alleged attempt to block deportation flights to El Salvador. It also follows Republican Representative Brandon Gill of Texas filing articles of impeachment against Boesberg for attempting to halt the flights under the Alien Enemies Act.
Gill says Boesberg overstepped his authority and interfered with Trump's mandate. This all began after the Obama-appointed judge issued a restraining order midair on flights carrying suspected gang members to El Salvador.
The case could escalate to the Supreme Court and have potential consequences for judicial authority. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller laid out why he believes Boesburg is out of bounds here.
The president has the ability to repel an invasion or predatory incursion that is directed by a foreign government. By a state or a government, right? Are they a state or a government? Yes, it is documented that TDA was sent by the Venezuelan government in the proclamation.
And here's an even more important point. Under the Constitution, who makes that determination? A district court judge elected by no one or the commander-in-chief of the army and navy? The president and their presidential role makes a decision of what triggers that determination.
The Israeli Defense Force says it has killed the head of Hamas after resuming extensive airstrikes last night. The strikes follow Hamas' rejection of proposals to extend the ceasefire.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz have instructed the IDF to intensify operations against Hamas, aiming to achieve the objectives of the war, including the release of hostages. Additionally, the IDF hit several military assets in Syria and Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon.

The FBI has extradited a senior leader of the MS-13 gang from Mexico to face American justice. Daily Wire reporter Spencer Lindquist has the story.
FBI Director Cash Patel announced today that they have extradited Francisco Javier Roman Bardalas, who they believe to be a key leader of MS-13, from Mexico. Roman Bardalas was previously placed on the FBI's top 10 most wanted list, and he stands accused of conspiracy to provide and conceal material support and resources to terrorists, of a narco-terrorism conspiracy, racketeering conspiracy, and alien smuggling conspiracy.
The announcement comes about a month after the Trump administration named MS-13 a foreign terror organization. Patel touted his extradition as a major victory for the country's top law enforcement agency and said that Roman Bardalas will now face American justice.
A 24-year-old arsonist trying to burn a Tesla charging station ended up getting more than he bargained for when he caught himself on fire. Daniel Clark Pounder vandalized the South Carolina station with explicit messages and, quote, long live Ukraine before throwing Molotov cocktails.
One of the cocktails brought the flames a bit closer than expected. Witnesses reported seeing him flee the scene with his backside on fire.
He was arrested later that day and now faces up to 20 years in prison. And astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams are heading home.
The two have been stranded in space for nine months and are expected to land Earthside this evening. Daily Wire reporter Moreta Lordi has the latest.
Wilmore and Williams were forced to stay on the International Space Station after their Boeing Starliner showed signs of engine glitching and was deemed unsafe to return home. They had to wait nine months.
But Williams and Wilmore boarded the SpaceX Crew Dragon this morning along with two new crew members, NASA's Nick Haig and Russian astronaut Alexander Gorbanov. They have been orbiting Earth all day and are expected to begin plummeting to Earth at 3.45 p.m.
Eastern, making a fiery entrance culminating in a splash arrival off the coast of Florida this evening. Here's Wilmore discussing what's kept him going while being stuck in space.
My feeling on all of this goes back to my faith. It's bound in my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
He is working out his plan and his purposes for his glory throughout all of humanity. And how that plays into our lives is significant and important.
And however that plays out, I am content because I understand that. The crew will be live streaming their journey starting at 445 Eastern, which can be viewed at nasa.gov.
