I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire editor-in-chief John Bickley. It's Wednesday, April 2nd, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
Elon Musk will step back from his Doge duties. President Trump told close advisors and his cabinet that Musk will soon be stepping down from his government role.
As three sources told Politico, Trump continues to highly value Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency Initiative. But the outlet reports that the two men have agreed that it's about time for Musk to shift focus back to his business ventures and take on a more limited role.
Newly released chat logs show the FBI muzzled an analyst who tried to confirm the authenticity of Hunter Biden's laptop on social media back in 2020. Daily Wire deputy managing editor Tim Rice has more.
According to the House Judiciary Committee, the analyst was placed under a gag order after speaking up during a meeting with the platform. FBI officials reportedly instructed staff not to discuss the Biden matter, despite having verified the laptop a year earlier during a federal investigation.
Critics say the FBI's actions contributed to the suppression of the story ahead of the 2020 election. The FBI has declined to comment, while the House GOP continues investigating federal coordination with social media to censor political speech.
The revelations come just one One day after President Trump commuted the sentence of Jason Galanis, a former Hunter Biden associate convicted of securities fraud. Galanis testified in the Biden impeachment probe, claiming Hunter and his partners used Joe Biden's name for influence.
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has officially eliminated the third gender option from all immigration forms, leaving only two choices, male or female.
Daily Wire White House correspondent Mary Margaret Olihan has the exclusive. The new policy puts an end to the short-lived Biden-era policy that allowed applicants to select X as a gender marker.
The agency cites President Trump's recent executive order to restore what he calls biological truth in federal policy. Effective immediately, USCIS will base an applicant's sex on their original or near-original birth certificate and will no longer accept conflicting identity claims.
The term gender has also been removed from all USCIS guidance, replaced by sex,
and officials say the change improves data accuracy, security, and interagency compatibility.
It will apply to green cards, naturalization papers, and other key immigration documents.
A Homeland Security official told me that the move reflects common sense
and prioritizes national security over ideology.

That's W-I-R-E to 400-400. Nashville police released their final report on the Covenant school shooting two years after the deadly incident.
The newly released documents reveal the attack was being plotted for up to five years in advance. The 2023 attack by a trans-identifying teen girl left three third graders and three adults dead at the Christian school.
The report states that the shooter did not leave a dedicated manifesto, but did leave behind a cache of writings and documents going back to 2017. Those documents included detailed fantasies about committing a Columbine-inspired shooting.
Documents also described fantasies about killing her father and her psychiatrist, as well as shooting up a different school in Nashville. A federal judge has dismissed the corruption case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams with prejudice, ending the indictment permanently.
The DOJ has asked for the case to be dropped without prejudice, citing immigration policy concerns, but Judge Dale Ho rejected that argument. Adams was accused of soliciting illegal contributions and gifts from foreign nationals, which his attorney called baseless.
The mayor addressed the case dismissal in front of the Gracie Mansion earlier today. As I said all along, this case should have never been run.
And I did nothing wrong. I'm now happy that our city can finally close the book on this and focus
solely on the future of our great city. Wilkie, Farr, and Gallagher became the third high-powered law firm to strike an agreement with the White House on Tuesday.
The law firm is another one aligned with Democrats, and Kamala Harris's husband, Doug Imhoff, is a partner at the firm. The firm agreed to end DEI practices and spend $100 million on pro bono legal work for White House-approved causes.
The agreement came after the firm was reportedly warned it would be sanctioned soon by the White House. A post on President Trump's Truth Social account said he is, quote, delivering on his promises of eradicating partisan lawfare in
America. And actor Val Kilmer, known for iconic roles in Top Gun and Tombstone, has died.
He was 65. According to his daughter Mercedes, Kilmer passed away yesterday in Los Angeles from pneumonia.
The Top Gun star had previously battled throat cancer but made a comeback in 2022's Top Gun Maverick. The Navy needs Maverick.
The kid needs Maverick. That's why I fought for you.
That's why you're still here. He's remembered for his dynamic career and artistic spirit.
Kilmer is survived by his two children.
