Trump serves up more tariffs to India, China restricts rare earth mineral access, and Texas Democrats flee the state.
I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire executive editor John Bickley.
It's Monday, August 4th, and this is Evening Wire.
President Trump is slapping India with more hefty tariffs.
In a social media post, the president slammed India for buying large volumes of Russian oil and reselling it for profit, saying they don't care about Ukrainian lives.
And while the president did not specify how much the new tariffs would be, he said he would be substantially raising the tariff paid by India to the USA.
The new penalties follow last week's announcement of a 25% tariff on Indian imports.
Those took effect on the 1st.
Trump also criticized India's reliance on Russian military equipment and what he called unfair trade barriers.
Meanwhile, the European Union is hitting pause on a new wave of tariffs on American goods.
Daily Wire senior editor Cabot Phillips has more.
EU officials announced plans today to suspend a package of retaliatory tariffs that were set to hit U.S.
goods next week.
The move comes after both sides reached a tentative trade agreement late last month.
Under that deal, baseline tariffs on most European imports to the U.S.
will be capped at 15%.
The agreement also includes a major financial commitment from Europe, $750 billion in U.S.
energy purchases, and another $600 billion in American investments.
An EU spokesman says the formal suspension will be adopted Tuesday, giving negotiators more time to finalize the deal's language.
Russian President Vladimir Putin says he's willing to meet in person with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, but he has conditions.
Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce as the latest.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday that such a summit could happen, but only after what he called necessary work at the expert level is completed.
Peace talks between the two nations remain stalled as Putin accuses Ukraine of not being ready.
The Russian leader says his demands from last summer remain unchanged and insists Moscow seeks a long-term lasting peace, not just a pause.
The comments come after Trump put two U.S.
nuclear submarines on standby in response response to comments from the deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council.
We had to do that.
We just have to be careful.
And a threat was made, and we didn't think it was appropriate, so I have to be very careful.
So I do that on the basis of safety for our people.
A threat was made by a former president of Russia, and we're going to protect our people.
U.S.
Special Envoy Steve Witkoff heads to Moscow this week in a last-ditch effort to secure a ceasefire before Friday's deadline.
U.S.
defense production is seeing major delays as China tightens its grip on critical rare earth minerals.
Beijing, which currently controls around 90% of the global rare earth supply, has imposed several new export restrictions, mainly on materials used for things like jet fighters, missiles, and night vision systems.
One company that supplies drone parts to the Pentagon faced a two-month delay after shipments from China were blocked.
Meanwhile, prices for minerals have surged as well, with some costs rising up to 60 times their normal rate.
A new drug reportedly up to five times stronger than fitanol is on the rise.
Authorities say even trace amounts of nitazines can kill and users can take them unknowingly.
So far, over 400 nitazine-linked deaths have been recorded in the UK alone with more outbreaks popping up all across Europe.
U.S.
officials warn the drugs may be slipping into the interior via Mexican cartels.
The DEA and European agencies are scrambling to detect and curb the spread.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott set a deadline for legislators to return to work after more than 50 Democrats fled the state to stall a GOP-led redistricting plan.
The Texas House reconvened at 3 p.m.
today, and Abbott said any Democrats not in attendance will be removed from membership.
Some Democrats could face bribery charges if they solicited donations to pay for the $500 daily fine for skipping the special session.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton also called for the truant Democrats to be arrested after running away, quote, like cowards.
Some have also called the move hypocritical.
Here's RNC committeewoman Jane Timpkin on Fox News.
They do this all the time, and we see it, as you said, in New York and California.
This is Eric Holder's plan, Obama's former attorney general.
They have been determined to redistrict themselves into power for quite some time.
And Republicans should stand strong and not put up with this nonsense.
Democrats need to do their job unless they don't want to do it anymore, and then they can lose their job.
The single mother who was sucker punched and knocked unconscious in the viral Cincinnati brawl has broken her silence.
In a video posted to social media, the woman identified as Holly thanked those who supported her in the aftermath.
Her face shows clear bruising.
It is very humbling that
You have said your prayers, your blessings.
I'm still recovering.
I still have a very bad brain trauma.
Following the violence, members of the Cincinnati restaurant and hospitality industry issued a statement calling on the city for, quote, a real plan, one that addresses this incident and the broader safety concerns that have been raised for months.
The suspected shooter who allegedly killed four people in a Montana bar on Friday remains at large.
In a press conference yesterday, Montana Attorney General Austin Knudson warned that 45-year-old Army veteran Michael Brown could return to the town of Anaconda where the incident took place.
This is an unstable individual who walked in and murdered four people in cold blood for no reason whatsoever.
So there absolutely is concern for the public.
Several agencies are coordinating efforts to locate and apprehend Brown, including the FBI, DHS, and the U.S.
Marshal Service.
Vivek Ramaswamy is warning that the rise of far-left political figures like Zoran Mamdani pose a national threat.
Speaking on Fox and Friends today, the Ohio gubernatorial Hopeful called the movement a fork in the road for America and urged Republicans to make the case case for capitalism over socialism.
Ramaswamy recently launched a Times Square ad inviting New Yorkers to move to the Buckeye State.
Congresswoman Nancy Mace has thrown her hat in the ring to be the next governor of South Carolina.
I don't answer to the establishment.
I don't owe those in the back room a single thing.
I answer to the people.
The congresswoman joins an already crowded field that includes a fellow representative and multiple state politicians.
In a video posted to X This Morning, Mace emphasized how she has drawn ire from both Democrats and Republicans.
She has focused recent attention on keeping men out of women's bathrooms after a trans-identifying man was elected to Congress.
She's well known for her combative style and courting controversy.
Oklahoma Republicans will introduce what's being dubbed an America-first test for teachers arriving from blue states.
The lawmakers want to make sure that teachers align with the state's values.
Every teacher moving to work in Oklahoma must pass the test.
Conservative think tank Prager U is assisting with the test development.
The Oklahoma superintendent told Fox News Digital that the test will include questions based on American history and common sense.
He said one inspiration for the test was the teaching of gender identity in other states.
He also added that other red states should follow Oklahoma's example.
So one of the things that we've wanted to do is, first of all, make sure that they're a great teacher, right?
And number two, make sure we're not getting these woke, indoctrinating social justice warriors in the classroom.
Just months after Jaguar's woke rebrand commercial, the company's CEO has stepped down.
The luxury car company gave no reason for Adrian Mardell's upcoming departure, which comes after a 30-year tenure.
The company's copy-nothing ad campaign sparked massive criticism following its November release.
The commercial featured androgynous people in vibrant, outlandish outfits.
The characters could be seen grabbing sledgehammers, painting over-the-camera, and striking poses.
The ad did not feature any Jaguar cars.
The ad was part of a major overhaul heading toward electric vehicles.
Actress Sidney Sweeney was heckled at the Hollywood premiere of Americana after her Great Jeans ad controversy.
Stop the ad!
That is being racist.
Despite the backlash online, Sweeney and American Eagle are standing by the ad.
In fact, American Eagle stock jumped more than 20% today.
And President Trump has responded to Sweeney reportedly being a registered Republican.
Public records reviewed by the Daily Wire show the actress is registered in the state of Florida.
She's a registered Republican?
Oh, now I love her ad.
You'd be surprised at how many people are Republicans.
If Sidney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic.
All right, those are your drive-home updates.

And in case you missed it this morning, we covered some major stories, including Trump firing the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics after a troubling jobs report, the president sending more nuclear subs in response to Russia saber rattling, and VP Vance weighing in on the Sidney Sweeney saga.
Thanks for tuning in.
We'll be back tomorrow morning with another full edition of Morningwire.
These are questions that take cultures thousands of years to answer.
During Answer the Call, I take questions from people just like you about their problems, opportunities, challenges, or when they simply need advice.
How do I balance all of this grief, responsibility?
How do you repair this kind of damage?
My daughter, Michaela, guides the conversations as we hopefully help people navigate their lives.
