Speaker 1 The National Guard is now packing heat on patrol in D.C.
Speaker 1 Canada eases up their retaliatory tariffs, and the battle over election map redistricting wages on. I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire executive editor John Bickley.
Speaker 1 It's Monday, August 25th, and this is Evening Wire.
Speaker 3 The Trump administration's efforts to combat crime in the nation's capital are far from over. Daily Wire senior editor Cabot Phillips has the latest.
Speaker 4
The National Guard is now armed and permitted to detain suspects around D.C. At the moment, there are over 2,200 Guard members patrolling key transit hubs and streets as backup for D.C.
police.
Speaker 4 Critics call it federal overreach, but the White House says it's about protecting federal assets and keeping residents safe.
Speaker 4 President Trump is also putting other cities with high crime on notice, specifically Baltimore, New York, and Chicago could be next if they do not get crime under control. Here's Trump earlier today.
Speaker 6 For 11 days, you don't have crime, but before that, everybody was getting hit and mugged, and you people could not walk to your office without security. That's how unsafe it was.
Speaker 6 So I think we should really let them have their city, let their city go to hell, and when they come and beg us to help.
Speaker 6 The only problem is we want to save it for the people because the people want us there.
Speaker 6 The people here, 95% of the people here want us.
Speaker 1 The Office of the DNI is combating claims that the U.S. has halted intelligence sharing with the Five Eyes partners.
Speaker 1 CBS claimed Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard signed a memo late last month ordering that all analysis on the Russia-Ukraine negotiations be kept no foreign.
Speaker 1
That means the intelligence would be kept even from our closest allies. However, the ODNI disputes that report, saying there has been no pause in intelligence sharing.
According to a spokeswoman, U.S.
Speaker 1 intelligence sharing relationships with our allies have never been stronger.
Speaker 1 Creating manufactured outrage by manipulating classified information is disgusting and further proves DNI Gabbard's point about the risk deep state leakers pose to national security.
Speaker 3 Ukraine says it can now strike deep into Russian territory without the need for prior approval from the U.S.
Speaker 3 Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said on Sunday that Ukraine can now domestically produce its own long-range missiles rather than rely on the West for such weapons.
Speaker 3 Zelensky's comments come after a report in the Wall Street Journal alleging that the U.S. has blocked long-range strikes on Russia for months over ongoing peace talks.
Speaker 1 Canada will remove its 25% tariff on about half of the goods entering the U.S.
Speaker 1 The tax was levied in March, but the country is now backtracking in hopes of securing a better deal with their largest trading partner. The 25% tariff on aluminum, steel, and cars will stay in place.
Speaker 1 In a press statement, Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney said, Canada currently has the best trade deal with the United States.
Speaker 1 While it's different from what we had before, it's still better than that of any country. He added that the average tariff on Canadian imports sits at 5.6%,
Speaker 1 and more than 85% of Canada U.S. trade is now tariff-free.
Speaker 7
Let's be absolutely clear. Canada currently has the best trade deal with the United States.
And while it's different from what we had before, it is still better than that of any other country.
Speaker 3
The U.S. government is now a 10% owner of Intel.
The extraordinary agreement will convert $8.9 billion in government grants into equity.
Speaker 3 The move comes just a few weeks after President Trump called for the firing of Intel CEO Lit Bhutan for his ties to the CCP, but after meeting in person, the two managed to hash out a deal.
Speaker 3 Senator Rand Paul criticized the public-private partnership as a step towards socialism, but Trump is standing by the move, suggesting deals with other companies could be made in the future.
Speaker 1 Israel struck multiple Houthi facilities in the capital of Yemen on Sunday.
Speaker 1 The airstrikes targeted a military compound, a fuel depot, and two power stations controlled by the Iran-backed terrorist group.
Speaker 1 The IDF says the strikes are in response to an attack from the Houthis on Friday that included ballistic missiles, explosive drones, and a cluster bomb.
Speaker 1 Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu delivered a statement on the attacks in Hebrew. Here's what he had to say.
Speaker 1 He said, quote, whoever attacks us, we attack him. I think the entire region is learning the strength and determination of the state of Israel.
Speaker 3 A New York Times investigation found that dozens of tax-exempt nonprofit organizations with ties to China have been used to influence local elections in New York City.
Speaker 3 Daily Wire reporter Zach Jewell has the latest.
Speaker 5 Many of the organizations known as hometown associations have focused on quashing the political aspirations of local leaders who criticize China while backing other politicians who are friendly toward Beijing.
Speaker 5 This New York Times report was published just days after the newspaper published another story, revealing that red envelopes filled with cash were handed out to reporters at rallies for Mayor Eric Adams, who is running for re-election in a hotly contested race.
Speaker 5 Adams' advisor and fundraiser Winnie Greco is caught giving one journalist cash stuffed in a potato chip bag.
Speaker 5 Greco had previously been at the center of controversy when the FBI raided her homes last year as a part of an investigation into Chinese interference in the 2021 mayor's race.
Speaker 1 Hours of audio and hundreds of pages of interviews with Ghelane Maxwell have been made public by the DOJ.
Speaker 1 During two days of questioning, Maxwell repeated her claim that Jeffrey Epstein did not die by suicide and denied ever witnessing misconduct by any of the powerful men in Epstein's orbit.
Speaker 1 She specifically said former presidents Trump and Clinton and others like Elon Musk and John Kerry were never inappropriate in her presence. She also addressed the supposed client list.
Speaker 9 There is no list. I'm not aware of any blackmail.
Speaker 9
I never heard that. I never saw it.
And
Speaker 9 I never imagined it.
Speaker 3 As the Democratic National Committee kicks off its summer meeting today, Democrats are sounding the alarm over their disunity and fundraising shortfalls.
Speaker 3 The new chair for the DNC, Ken Martin, spoke today in Minneapolis and said that the party's biggest challenges are actually internal.
Speaker 3 He said, quote, the greatest divide right now in our party is not ideological, but rather, quote, those people who are standing up and fighting and those who are sitting on the sidelines.
Speaker 3 The DNC's goal, he added, is using every single lever of power we have to take the fight to Donald Trump.
Speaker 1 Democrats in New York and Maryland say they're planning to redraw electoral maps just like California.
Speaker 1 Maryland Governor Wes Moore, as well as House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York, confirmed Sunday that they're working to redraw the congressional maps after watching their Democrat comrades in California move to put the issue on the ballot.
Speaker 1 Here's Jeffries on CNN saying Democrats aren't going to let Trump quote unquote steal the election.
Speaker 8 I've been in touch, of course, with Governor Kathy Hochul as well as the legislative leaders.
Speaker 8 House Democrats are going to respond from coast to coast and at all points in between, as has been done in California, forcefully, immediately, and appropriately to make sure that Donald Trump cannot steal the midterm elections.
Speaker 1 The Democrats say they're only doing all of this to counter Republicans in Texas, whose new map could add five more seats to the GOP.
Speaker 3 Alleged MS-13 gang member Kilmar Abrego Garcia was taken back into custody just days after his release. Daily Wire senior editor Joel Niedler has more.
Speaker 3 Illegal alien Kilmar Abrego Garcia was taken into custody by ICE today after he was released from federal prison in Tennessee, where he was being held while he underwent trial for human trafficking charges.
Speaker 3 Abrego Garcia's case sparked debate after the Salvadorian illegal alien was deported to El Salvador earlier this year before then being returned to the United States to stand trial for his alleged role in a human smuggling operation.
Speaker 3 Abrego Garcia, who is alleged to be a member of MS-13, was expected to be deported a second time, this time to Uganda. But a federal judge has ruled that the man must remain in the U.S.
Speaker 3
while she holds a hearing on his deportations. Abrego Garcia spoke to a crowd of supporters in Baltimore earlier today through a translator.
Here he is speaking to the crowd.
Speaker 10 This is why I want to thank each and every one of you who marched, lift your voices, never stop praying, and continue to fight in my name.
Speaker 1 Texas will no longer offer in-state tuition to illegal immigrants, and now the Trump administration is looking to take this policy nationwide.
Speaker 1 The DOJ filed a complaint against the state of Texas in June, seeking to block the enforcement of a 2001 law that qualifies illegal Texas residents for in-state tuition.
Speaker 1 In a statement about the filing, Attorney General Pam Bondi said, quote, under federal law, schools cannot provide benefits to illegal aliens that they do not provide to U.S. citizens.
Speaker 1 The Justice Department will relentlessly fight to ensure that U.S. citizens are not treated like second-class citizens anywhere in the country.
Speaker 1 The administration has filed similar complaints against Oklahoma, Kentucky, and Minnesota.
Speaker 3 President Trump signed two executive orders on Monday. One punishes flag burning, while the other seeks to end widely criticized cashless bail policies.
Speaker 3 Here are the details as Daily Wire reporter Amanda Prestijacomo.
Speaker 11 Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump said the burning of the American flag often incites riots and should be punished.
Speaker 11
His order cracks down on these acts by directing prosecution where there's sufficient evidence. There's also a steep penalty for flag desecration.
Here's Trump.
Speaker 6
If you burn a flag, you get one year in jail, no early exits, no nothing. You get one year in jail, and it goes on your record.
And you will see flag burning stopping immediately.
Speaker 11 Trump's other order seeks to end no-cash no-cash bail jurisdictions, which have become the norm in liberal areas like New York and Washington, D.C.
Speaker 11 Trump's order would revoke federal funding from these places until they comply.
Speaker 11 The White House said cashless bail policies allow dangerous individuals to immediately return to the streets and further endanger law-abiding, hardworking Americans because they know our laws will not be enforced.
Speaker 1 An emerging faux pas in England has bar owners putting up signs and has spawned a movement online.
Speaker 1 Since the pandemic, pub owners have observed a growing trend of patrons lining up in a tidy queue to place their drink orders.
Speaker 1 While intending to be polite, longtime bartenders and pubgoers say it changes the social culture and creates inefficiency when patrons don't come directly up to the bar and make eye contact.
Speaker 1 It has led to the creation of a viral X account, Q's Pub, which posts and shames individuals for queuing in pubs.
Speaker 1 The trend dovetails with another phenomenon of Gen Z drinking significantly less than older generations, leading some to worry that time-honored pub culture in the UK will go by the wayside.
Speaker 3
It's really tragic news there. Those are your drive-home updates today.
