The government shutdown goes into effect.

The Trump DOJ sues LA County's Sheriff's Department and Hillary Clinton is hit with backlash over comments about white men.

I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire executive editor John Bickley.

It's Wednesday, October 1st, and this is Evening Wire.

The government shutdown has officially arrived and there's lots of questions about what it will actually impact.

One is national parks.

The Interior Department says they will remain partially open with open air sites available to the public.

However, all the buildings that require staff will be closed.

The restrooms and other basic facilities will be functional.

Another major question will be how air travel is affected.

Most airport employees, among them air traffic controllers, are considered essential and thus required to show up for work.

But they'll have to go without pay for now, so many expect staffing issues and thus potential flight delays or cancellations.

Oklahoma is blowing the whistle on New York's DMV after catching a truck driver with a commercial license that literally read, no name given.

The license was real and New York admits it.

It was issued to a migrant with, quote, federally verified documents.

Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt blasted sanctuary states for letting 80,000-pound rigs hit the road without proper verification.

Representative Elise Stefanik piled on, accusing Governor Hochul of putting illegals before law-abiding New Yorkers.

The bizarre license is now exhibit A in the fight over Hochul's green light law.

Zoran Mandani says he's ready to sue President Trump if he follows through on withholding federal cash from New York City.

After Trump threatened that the Democratic socialist candidate will end up getting zero federal dollars to fulfill his, quote, fake communist promises to New Yorkers, Mandani told CNN's Aaron Burnett this week that he's prepared to fight back against the federal government.

So the number this year from the federal government was $7.4 billion to New York City.

Are you okay if New York City loses that?

No, we we will fight for every single dollar that the city currently receives from the federal government.

And I look for examples across this country that showcase the best way to respond to Donald Trump's strengths is not collaboration, is his threats rather.

It's responding with strength.

And what we see in California is an attorney general of the state has estimated that for every dollar they spent on lawsuits against the federal government's threats to withhold funding, they won more than $30,000 in what would otherwise have been lost.

And so we will take that same approach.

The White House has withdrawn conservative economist E.J.

Antoni's nomination to be commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce has more.

Democrats work to block Antoni's confirmation, focusing on him being a bystander during the J6 rally that turned riotous.

Trump had nominated him to replace the former chief, Erica McIntarfer, who he fired after a string of flawed economic data.

In a statement to the press Tuesday, the White House said, quote, Dr.

E.J.

Antoni is a brilliant economist and an American patriot who will continue to do good work on behalf of our great country.

The White House added that the president is, quote, committed to fixing the long-standing failures of the BLS that have undermined the public's trust in critical economic data, and that he'll announce a new nominee very soon.

A Democratic mayor in New Jersey has broken with his party to endorse the Republican candidate for governor.

Here's Daily Wire editor Virginia Crudeau with the details.

Dover Mayor James Dodd split with his party to endorse the Republican Jack Chitterelli for New Jersey governor.

Dodd said that on issues such as taxes and affordability, Democrat Mikey Sherrill has not put forward workable solutions.

But one of the biggest issues for Dodd is immigration.

Here he is on Fox News on Tuesday.

On day one, Jack made a commitment to end sanctuary cities, and the state of New Jersey will no longer be a sanctuary state.

We need to let our law enforcement do their job.

And I see these constant problems here in my small community in the town of Dover, and we need real solutions to the problem.

Jack came here twice because he's concerned about Dover, and to me that speaks volumes.

The Taliban cut off internet access throughout Afghanistan for two days this week, severing the country's connection to the outside world.

Daily Wire reporter Zach Jewell has more.

Afghanistan went under a total internet blackout beginning on Monday as the Taliban seeks to stop, quote, immoral activities.

Internet access had returned for parts of the country as of Wednesday, but only after businesses were forced to halt their operations and people outside of Afghanistan worried about how they could contact family members and colleagues still in the country.

A Taliban official reportedly spoke to the Washington Post on the condition of anonymity, saying that the internet shutdown had been discussed by the terror group for a week.

The official added that the country could not survive without the internet.

The Taliban's move is the most severe action the regime has taken to cut off the country from the outside world since taking over following the Biden administration's disastrous withdrawal in 2021.

Charlie Javis, founder of the college finance startup Frank, was sentenced this week to seven years in prison for defrauding J.P.

Morgan Chase out of $175 million.

A jury convicted her in March of multiple counts of fraud and conspiracy after she inflated Frank's user base from $300,000 to over $4 million ahead of its 2021 sale.

Prosecutors called it an audacious criminal scheme, with J.P.

Morgan's acquisition of the company described as buying a crime scene.

The judge also ordered Javies and a codefendant to pay $288 million in restitution, including $115 million in legal fees.

Her attorneys criticized the bank's oversight and planned to appeal the conviction.

The case, which has been widely compared to Theranos, has become a cautionary tale of investor gullibility and startup deception.

Javis showed remorse in court, but maintained her innocence throughout the trial.

Black Lives Matter is accusing the George Soros-backed Tides Foundation of withholding $33.4 million of its cash.

Daily Wire investigative reporter Luke Roziak has more.

As first reported by the New York Post, the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation claims the Tides Foundation used, quote, deceptive business practices as well as egregious mismanagement of its money.

And BLM Global now wants that money back.

The lawsuit was filed last year, but the stakes were raised on Monday when the BLM GNF, which oversees its other regional operations, asked the California Attorney General to step in and investigate Tides, the Post reports.

The BLM organization accuses Tides of spending $6 million of their donations, despite promising to freeze any cash belonging to the group during the litigation, their lawyers allege.

The Justice Department has filed its first-ever lawsuit over gun permit delays against the L.A.

County Sheriff's Department.

With more on the story, here's Daily Wire senior editor Joel Needler.

The DOJ sued the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and Sheriff Robert Luna on Tuesday.

In a legal filing, the DOJ's Civil Rights Division said the L.A.

Sheriff has, quote, systematically violated American Second Amendment rights.

Delays between when forms for concealed carry permits were submitted and ruled on have lasted years in many cases.

The DOJ looked at over 8,000 applications over a 15-month period and found that the LA Sheriff's Office had approved just two for concealed carry permits.

Two more were denied, and over 1,200 applications were eventually withdrawn.

A DOJ review found the average application takes over a year to process.

Under California law, authorities are required to respond to applications in under 90 days.

Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a statement that while Los Angeles County may not like the Second Amendment, quote, the Constitution does not allow them to infringe upon it.

Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny will headline this season's Super Bowl halftime show.

The announcement came as a surprise to many since Bad Bunny recently posted a profanity-laced statement about how he wouldn't be booking shows in the U.S.

due to concerns about ICE.

In his statement Sunday announcing the halftime performance, he indicated that he was performing not for Americans at large, but for his Latino fan base, saying, quote, it's for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come and score a touchdown.

This is for my people, my culture, and our history.

While some fans are excited, the choice of artists has been criticized as divisive and politically motivated.

Hillary Clinton is facing backlash due to her comments made about white Christian men in a recent interview.

Daily Wire assistant editor Andy Valdez has more.

Clinton raised eyebrows during an appearance on Morning Joe last week.

Have a listen.

The idea that you could turn the clock back and try to recreate a world that never was dominated by, you know, let's say it, white men of a certain persuasion, a certain religion, a certain point of view, a certain ideology, it's just doing such damage to what we should be aiming for.

Her remarks earned swift blowback on social media, especially as the nation still mourns the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk.

Users calling her comments inflammatory, dehumanizing, and dangerous.

Roger Severino of the Heritage Foundation called her comments, quote, tone-deaf, saying, quote, at least it confirms what we all suspected, that Hillary still believes millions of Americans belong in her basket of deplorables based on their sex, race, and sincere religious beliefs.

Kamala Harris's book about her failed presidential campaign is shaping up to be the year's best-selling memoir.

The book's publisher, Simon ⁇ Schuster, announced Monday that it's already sold 350,000 copies across the country in its first week.

The publisher's CEO, Jonathan Karp, pointed out that, quote, the only memoirs that have had a better first week of sales since 2023 were Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, and Prince Harry.

The book, 107 Days, has prompted widespread criticism of Harris, with critics accusing her of throwing her former boss, Joe Biden, under the bus in an attempt to paint herself and her campaign as victims of a man that gave her the coveted VP spot.

And Florida is handing President Trump prime Miami real estate for his presidential library.

Governor Ron DeSantis and state officials voted unanimously to transfer a 2.6-acre parcel right next to the iconic Freedom Tower and across from the Miami Heat Arena.

Eric Trump promised it will be the greatest presidential library ever built, mocking Obama's in Chicago.

Funded partly by Trump's massive settlements with Meta and ABC, the project must break ground within five years.

DeSantis says it'll cement Miami as a global capital and give Trump a skyline icon.
