A $100,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the assassination of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk.

NPR Sage Miller spoke with a student at Utah Valley University where Kirk was gunned down on Wednesday.

Isaac Davis skipped class to see Kirk speak.

He says he was about 30 feet away from where Kirk was sitting when a single gunshot rang out.

Probably kind of in a state of shock for a second or two, but once I realized that, I just booked it as fast as I could.

There were some bushes that were right next to it.

It wasn't great cover.

Davis sought shelter at a nearby building where police officers with AR-15s yelled at him to seek cover.

That's when I kind of realized like this is no joke.

Like there's definitely a risk that something could happen.

Utah Valley University has canceled classes for the week.

Once school is back in session, Davis says he looks forward to connecting with his fellow classmates and hearing their responses to what happened.

Two Colorado teenagers were made hospitalized after being shot at their high school.

Alejandro Alonso Galba, as the latest from Colorado Public Radio.

Authorities have identified the shooter as a 16-year-old at the school.

They said he had been radicalized by, quote, some sort of extremist network.

Jackie Kelly with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said the quick lockdown actions of students and teachers likely saved lives.

He had to keep reloading.

He would fire and reload, fire and reload, fire and reload.

This went on and on.

And as he did that, he tried to find new targets.

He came up against a roadblock on many of those doors.

He couldn't get to those kids.

There's not enough to be said for the work that the teachers, the coaches, the staff, the students.

The shooter used a revolver, firing multiple rounds in multiple locations, both in and behind the school, before turning the gun on himself.

Mortgage rates have fallen to a new low for the year, causing a spike in mortgage applications.

More from NPR's Laura Walmsley.

The average interest rate for a 30-year mortgage in the past week was 6.35%,

down from 6.5% a week earlier.

That's the lowest average since last October.

As rates have ticked down, borrower demand has surged.

Applications to buy a home and to refinance were both up last week, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association.

Refinances made up nearly half of applications.

Mortgage rates have dipped following new economic data showing that the labor market is weakening.

The Federal Reserve is expected to cut the Fed funds rate at its meeting next week, but that may not indirectly spur a further drop in mortgage rates, as the expectation of a cut is already likely priced into current rates.

A federal appeals panel says the Trump administration may block Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood.

In July, a federal judge ordered the administration to continue reimbursing the organization for its services, including cancer screenings, pregnancy tests, and abortion.

President Trump's tax bill ends Medicaid payments to abortion providers, providing lawsuits from

prompting lawsuits from Planned Parenthood chapters in Massachusetts and Utah.

The National Hockey League says five Canadian players may return after being acquitted of sexual assault.

As Dan Harpenshuck reports, the players can sign with the team as of mid-October.

Michael McLeod, Dylan Dubey, Cal Foote, Alex Formanton, and Carter Hart had pleaded not guilty.

They had all been charged with one count of sexual assault in connection to a complaint from 2018.

They were acquitted of all charges at the end of July of this year.

In the wake of the ruling, the National Hockey League said the five would not be eligible to compete pending a review.

In agreeing to the December 1st return, the NHL called the events deeply troubling and unacceptable, and that the players' conduct did not meet the standard of moral integrity.

But it also took into account that the players had been away from the game for nearly two years.

The National Hockey League Players Association said it now considered the matter closed.

The NCAA is investigating 13 former student athletes accused of gambling.

The athletes were from six different schools that are not implicated in the scandal.

Separately, three basketball players from Fresno State and San Jose State are permanently banned for betting on their own games.
