Speaker 1 This message comes from ADP. Whether it's a last-minute policy change or adding a new company holiday, anything can change the world of work.

Speaker 1 From HR to payroll, ADP helps businesses take on the next anything. ADP, always designing for people.

Speaker 2 Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Willman. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene says she'll resign from Congress on January 5th.

Speaker 2 Greene rose to prominence as one of President Trump's biggest supporters, but over the past several months, the two two have regularly fought, in particular over the release of the Epstein files.

Speaker 2 In a video announcing her decision, Green said she was tired of being called traitor and wacky.

Speaker 3 I refuse to be a battered wife, hoping it all goes away and gets better.

Speaker 3 If I am cast aside by the president and the MAGA political machine and replaced by neocons, big pharma, big tech, military-industrial war complex, foreign leaders, and the elite donor class that can never ever relate to real Americans, then many common Americans have been cast aside and replaced as well.

Speaker 2 Green also said Republicans are likely to lose next year's midterm elections.

Speaker 2 President Trump renewed efforts to end the war in Ukraine this week with news of a 28-point peace plan, but NPR's Franco Ordonia's reports that international observers are urging caution about the proposal's practicality.

Speaker 4 Only a few details have come out, but one seen as a non-starter for Kyiv involves Ukraine ceding territory to Russia, a proposal Trump has pushed before.

Speaker 4 Sam Cherub, who's at RAND, a think tank that studies security, says the details don't matter as much to Trump. He just wants to stop the fighting.

Speaker 5 For both Presidents Putin and Zelensky, the details really matter.

Speaker 5 That's why you have to have them or their representatives in the room working these issues in detail if you want to get something that will stick.

Speaker 4 That's why Russia wants more strategic territory and Ukraine is so adamant about needing security guarantees from from Washington and its Western partners so that this type of invasion doesn't happen again.

Speaker 4 Franco, Ordoñas, NPR News, The White House.

Speaker 2 U.S. Border Patrol agents appear to be winding down their operation in Charlotte, North Carolina, after arresting 370 people over five days.
Nick DeLacanel of member station WFAE has our reports.

Speaker 6 Activists say Border Patrol sightings around Charlotte have dropped sharply, though they're urging undocumented and mixed-status families to stay alert.

Speaker 6 In Washington, North Carolina Republican Senator Tom Tillis said he wants the identities of detainees to be released.

Speaker 7 I want to make sure that Homeland Security can provide me with the definitive list of people who were detained, how long they were detained, whether or not they were released, and when property was damaged, whether or not they've been provided proper restitution.

Speaker 6 Homeland Security has identified only a handful of detainees, saying at least 44 have criminal records and two are suspected gang members. For NPR News, I'm McDella Canal in Charlotte.

Speaker 2 Four people were shot Friday night at the Christmas tree lighting in Concord, North Carolina. Three of them are in critical condition at this hour.

Speaker 2 Police say it's not clear what caused the shooting, and so far they have no one in custody. You're listening to NPR News.

Speaker 2 It was a rocky day on Wall Street Friday with the market swinging up and down several times, but in the end, the SP 500 finished with a gain of 1%, while the Dow Jones Industrials climbed 1.1%.

Speaker 2 The NASDAQ Composite, meanwhile, climbed 1.1 percent. President Trump met Friday with New York Mayor-elect Zoran Mandami.

Speaker 2 In the past, Trump has called Mandani a 100% communist lunatic and a total nutjob.

Speaker 2 But after their meeting, the two appeared before reporters to talk about their shared goals for helping New York thrive.

Speaker 2 Trump said he was surprised by what he called a great meeting and said the Democratic Socialist will also surprise some conservative people.

Speaker 2 The Trump administration has published the technical specifications for a new crash test dummy design that's based on a female body. MPR's Kamila Dominovsky has more.

Speaker 8 Women are more likely to be injured in a vehicle crash than men, and safety advocates have long argued one reason might be that required safety tests only use dummies based on the male body.

Speaker 8 The new design is meant to help. Chris O'Connor is the CEO of crash test dummy manufacturer, Humanetics.

Speaker 7 It was designed around what injuries a female would have, not just what a small male would have.

Speaker 8 Humanetics and federal regulators have worked on the new design for over a decade, and there are still several more regulatory steps before the dummy will actually be required in tests.

Speaker 8 Camila Dominovsky, NPR News.

Speaker 2 Ole Miss says football coach Lane Kiffin will announce his next move after the Egg Bowl game against Mississippi State.

Speaker 2 The coach of the fifth-ranked Rebels has been courted by several teams, including Florida and LSU.

Speaker 2 I'm Dale Willman, and you're listening to NPR News.
