Speaker 1 This message comes from Jackson. Seek clarity in retirement planning at jackson.com.

Speaker 1 Jackson is short for Jackson Financial Inc., Jackson National Life Insurance Company, Lansing, Michigan, and Jackson National Life Insurance Company of New York. Purchase, New York.

Speaker 2 Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Windsor Johnston. Secretary of State Marco Rubio says Sunday's peace talks in Switzerland were productive in efforts to end Russia's war in Ukraine.

Speaker 3 Over the last 96 hours or more, there's been extensive engagement with the Ukrainian side, including our Secretary of the Army and others, being on the ground in Kyiv, meeting with relevant stakeholders across the Ukrainian political spectrum in the legislative branch and the executive branch and the military and others to further sort of narrow these points.

Speaker 2 Speaking in Geneva, Rubio also emphasized that any final deal must be approved by the presidents of Russia and Ukraine.

Speaker 2 The discussion centered on a controversial plan plan originally drafted by the U.S. and Russian negotiators and widely criticized as favorable to Moscow.

Speaker 2 Under pressure, the Trump administration says the draft is now being revised to address Ukraine's key demands, firm security guarantees, and no-force NATO exclusion.

Speaker 2 The United Nations climate conference wrapped up in Brazil this weekend. NPR's Julia Simon reports the final agreement did not address the main driver of climate change.

Speaker 4 The final agreement had no mention of fossil fuels, even though they drive about 70% of emissions heating the planet.

Speaker 4 But one of the most important things to happen at the COP30 conference was the announcement of a new conference, specifically dedicated to phasing out fossil fuels.

Speaker 4 Colombia and the Netherlands will co-host. Sophie Hermans, climate minister of the Netherlands, says it will help countries achieve the climate goals they agreed to 10 years ago.

Speaker 5 We all said, okay, we have this ambition, but after you have said you have the ambition, you also have to come to action, and that's what we are doing now.

Speaker 4 The new conference will take place in Colombia next spring. Julia Simon, NPR News, Brazil.

Speaker 2 New York City Mayor-elect Zoran Momdani is calling his recent meeting with President Trump productive.

Speaker 2 A White House official now says it's unlikely that Trump will withhold federal funding from his hometown. NPR's Luke Garrett has more.

Speaker 6 The chummy Oval Office meeting shocked political onlookers, but Momdani tells NBC News he still believes Trump is a fascist.

Speaker 7 That's something that I've said in the past, I say it today.

Speaker 6 On the economy and affordability, Momdani says he and Trump found common ground.

Speaker 7 I found in the meeting that I had with the president a productive one and a meeting that came back again and again to the central themes of the campaign that we ran.

Speaker 6 Trump's top economic advisor Kevin Hassett tells CNN the president no longer wants to act on his threat to curb federal funding from New York City.

Speaker 8 Well, it feels like he doesn't mean it now, and I guess we'll have to wait and see what Momdani does.

Speaker 6 Hassett says the White House was reassured by Momdani's choice to retain the current police commissioner, Jessica Tisch. Luke Garrett, NPR News, Washington.

Speaker 2 You're listening to NPR News from Washington.

Speaker 2 50 of the more than 300 school children kidnapped from a Catholic school in Nigeria have escaped and returned to their families.

Speaker 2 Nigerian church leaders confirmed that 253 students and 12 teachers are still missing after gunmen attacked the school on Friday. No group has claimed responsibility.

Speaker 2 Malaysia appears set to become the latest country to limit social media access to minors. Michael Sullivan reports the decision is tied to concerns about child safety.

Speaker 9 Communications Minister Fahmy Fadzil told reporters he expects social media platforms to comply with the plan to ban registration for users under the age of 16 beginning next year.

Speaker 9 It's not clear what penalties will be imposed on platforms that don't comply.

Speaker 9 In Australia, social media platforms are getting set to deactivate accounts registered to users under 16 beginning next month.

Speaker 9 The government there citing concerns over young people's mental health, including threats posed by cyberbullying online predators and exposure to harmful content.

Speaker 9 It's a move whose implementation is expected to be watched keenly by countries with similar concerns worldwide. For NPR News, I'm Michael Sullivan in Chiang Rai.

Speaker 2 International Airlines are canceling flights to Venezuela after the FAA warned of increasing military activity and security risks.

Speaker 2 The country's airlines association says six carriers have now suspended service indefinitely. I'm Windsor Johnston, NPR News in Washington.
