Speaker 2 Live from NPR News, I'm Giles Snyder. President Trump says lax migration policies are a top national security threat.

Speaker 2 The White House posted a social media video following Wednesday's shooting of two members of the West Virginia National Guard.

Speaker 2 Imperial Sage Miller has more on Trump's response to the shooting from West Palm Beach, where the president is spending Thanksgiving.

Speaker 3 In the video, Trump called the shooting a crime against humanity. Trump says the Department of Homeland Security is confident that the suspect in custody is from Afghanistan.

Speaker 3 He went on to blame the Biden administration.

Speaker 5 We must now re-examine every single alien who has entered our country from Afghanistan under Biden, and we must take all necessary measures to ensure the removal of any alien from any country who does not belong here or add benefit to our country.

Speaker 3 In response to the shooting, Trump has mobilized an additional 500 National Guard members to the nation's capital. In West Palm Beach, Florida, Sage Miller, and PR News.

Speaker 2 Those two West Virginia National Guard members are in a Washington, D.C. hospital.
Officials say they are in critical condition after being shot just blocks from the White House. D.C.

Speaker 2 Mayor Muriel Bowser calls the shooting a targeted attack.

Speaker 2 The Hong Kong government says at least 44 people have been killed in a massive fire that tore through a high-rise complex in the city, nearly 300 still missing.

Speaker 2 The fire began in one building before jumping to six more at a public housing complex.

Speaker 2 And as NPR's Emily Fang reports, it's already prompting questions about why the complex went up in flames so quickly.

Speaker 6 The fire also spread from the high-rise housing complex, which is home to about 4,600 people, to a nearby school.

Speaker 6 The buildings had been due for renovation and they had been encased in bamboo scaffolding, which quickly caught fire.

Speaker 6 Last year, the region's government started phasing out bamboo in favor of steel because it is fire-resistant.

Speaker 6 All this week, Hong Kong has been under a red grade for fire danger because of warm and dry weather.

Speaker 6 Hong Kong's chief executive John Lee visited hundreds of the surviving residents now sheltering in a nearby community center. Emily Fang and Peer News.

Speaker 2 Now to Thanksgiving travel as Americans make their way to holiday destinations to be with friends and family. It was a busy day on the roads and at airports.

Speaker 2 Jason Pentategis of the Transportation Security Administration's security director. He's at the Los Angeles International Airport.

Speaker 7 Security is really the number one reason why we're here, but we want them to get through

Speaker 7 in a timely manner,

Speaker 7 but most importantly, that we want to make sure that they're safe and on their aircraft and they get to their destination, okay?

Speaker 2 AAA is projecting that nearly 82 million people will travel at least 50 miles from their homes.

Speaker 2 You're listening to NPR News.

Speaker 2 A panel of three federal judges is allowing North Carolina to use a redrawn congressional map designed to give Republicans an additional seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Speaker 2 The panel on Wednesday denied denied requests for a preliminary injunction.

Speaker 2 North Carolina is among several states where President Trump has pushed for a mid-decade map change ahead of next year's midterm elections.

Speaker 2 Those giant balloons and marching bands of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade will be stepping off in New York City in a matter of hours.

Speaker 2 MPR's Neta Ulabi reports this year's broadcast follows record ratings last year.

Speaker 4 The parade is being broadcast on NBC stations and streamed online on Peacock, once in the morning and again in the afternoon, if you cannot be there to record it for social media.

Speaker 4 Last year's telecast brought in more than 31 million viewers. Thanksgiving, it seems, is for television as well as for Turkey.
It's one of the biggest TV viewing days of the year.

Speaker 4 The Macy's Thanksgiving parade for 2025 will feature 34 giant balloons and more than two dozen floats, many of which serve as enormous mobile advertisements for various things.

Speaker 4 Celebrities set to perform and promote their projects include stars from the films Wicked for Good and K-pop Demon Hunters. Netta Ulibi, NPR News.

Speaker 2 Overseas stock markets in positive territory, the regional markets in Asia rising following a fourth straight day of gains on Wall Street as investors look ahead to the Federal Reserve's interest rate meeting on December 10th.
