Coach, the energy out there felt different.

What changed for the team today?

It was the new game day scratchers from the California Lottery.

Play is everything.

Those games sent the team's energy through the roof.

Are you saying it was the off-field play that made the difference on the field?

Hey, a little play makes your day, and today it made the game.

That's all for now.

Coach, one more question.

Play the new Los Angeles Chargers, San Francisco 49ers, and Los Angeles Rams Scratchers from the California Lottery.

A little play can make your day.

Please play responsibly.

Must be be 18 years or older to purchase, play, or claim.

You are listening to a special holiday broadcast here on WOGA World of Old Gods of Appalachia Radio.

I'm your beloved narrator and today your intrepid DJ, Steve Schell.

Just letting y'all know that the family is gathering one more time in the flesh before 2023 is over.

The weekend of December 16th and 17th, we have two final live shows at the Orange Peel in Asheville, North Carolina.

Now Saturday the 16th is sold out.

Not a seat to be had, but there are tickets still available for Sunday the 17th.

Head on over to old gods of Appalachia.com slash tour to pick up your tickets and come join us.

Because when the family gathers and joins our voices in unison, it is truly something special.

But this is more than just a crass advertisement for our final two live shows of 2023.

Because what we have for you today on WOGA World of Old Gods of Appalachia Radio are three live performances curated from various dates on the Price of Progress tour.

So let's start this program out with the man who starts every episode of Old Gods of Appalachia, Brother Landon Blood, performing a brand new song on the stage of the Neptune Theater in Seattle, Washington.

A song about very special employees of a certain coal company as they get in league with another certain man wearing a charcoal suit.

All right, this next song's a warning.

Okay.

That dear old daddy of mine

He worked every day of his life

But he was covered in black dust down in some hole

He said son, I love you too much

to watch you dig for coal

but I found myself in those mines

with broken hands I broke in back out of my mind

and then that man rolled into town

He said come with me

here on the dotty line

Now I'm a hollow man,

I'm a hollow

man.

Run now as fast as you can.

You can't get away from the railroad man.

Run now as fast as you can.

You can't get away from the railroad.

calling me now.

Oh, you can hear them, hear them howling, but ever onward, ever forward.

There's the hope to break these chains.

Well, I forgot myself, Evon forgot my name.

He put rails behind my eyes.

He ripped out my soul, left me here to die.

Now I'm a hollow man.

Oh, I'm a hollow man.

And run now as fast as you can, you man, get away from the railroad, man.

Run now as fast as you can.

You can get away from the railroad, man.

Come on, Seattle.

Come with me now.

You can hear them howling.

Ever onward, ever forward.

Ever onward, ever forward.

One more time.

Ever onward, ever forward.

Brother Landon Blood.

Thank you, Sean.

Landon Blood, performing Hollow Man, a song he had not recorded or performed anywhere else, a song that evolved and changed over the course of the Price of Progress tour.

Who knows if that exact version will end up on a record or if it'll ever be duplicated?

It's those special moments that happen in our live shows that we encourage you to come out and be a part of.

Now, speaking of special moments and people who are amazing at creating them, let's talk about Jacob Danielson Moore.

He's been with us since he wrote Charcoal Suit and All about the Railroad Man.

He has a brand new song about Jerry Brotherton that we will get to another time.

But right now, I need to let him break your heart with a murder ballad.

From the stage of the egg in Albany, New York, here's Jacob Danielson Moore with Don't Turn Away.

The greatest man I know.

He helped me build my home.

He lived just a couple miles away.

He played piano and the church.

He ran the labor union at work,

and he never missed a chance to stop and play.

Don't turn away,

don't turn away from me,

don't turn away.

I love you, but I ain't safe.

Don't turn away,

don't turn away from me.

Don't turn away.

Bo, I love you, but I ain't safe.

Well, down devil's creaking back.

The train had lost its track.

We went out to help it find the rail

Yet his blonde hair eyes blue

that knocked the wind right out of you.

And we snuck off to that rhododendron hell.

Don't look away.

Don't look away from me.

Don't look away.

I love you, but I ain't safe.

Don't turn away.

Don't turn away from me

Don't turn away

I love you, but I ain't safe

He said no, I love you and all

And maybe we could leave by fall

We won't have to sneak or fool around

Yeah, I'm haunted by your ghost.

And my wife, she even knows.

But the boys ain't old enough to just move on.

Don't go away.

Don't go away from me.

Don't go away.

Bo, I love you, but I ain't safe.

Don't go away

Don't go away from me

Don't go away

I love you, but I ain't safe

Oh my life's a living hell

In this brushy mountain cell

I think about you every day

Yeah, I'm haunted by your ghost

Everybody

knows

And the boys won't even return my calls these days

Down Devil's Creek and back

I killed and buried you by the track

And I swear to God you fell into the drink.

But you went away,

you went away from me,

you went away.

I told you I wasn't safe.

You went away,

you went away from me,

you went away.

Oh, I love you, but I ain't safe.

I'm haunted by your ghost.

Thank you so much.

Jacob Danielson Moore here on WOGA with Don't Turn Away live from the egg in Albany, New York.

Very strange building.

Beautiful country up there.

Beautiful people up in Albany, but such a strange building inside and out.

Speaking of being strange inside and out, that brings us to our final performer on this little promo.

broadcast on WOGA World of Old Gods of Appalachia Radio.

And of course, you know who it has to be, Brother John Charles Dwyer.

Now, currently in season four, Brother John is responsible for Atonement, our outro music that has been occupying the space previously held by those poor bastards.

I Cannot Escape the Darkness.

But John came to us in season three, as most of you know, with Panthers on the Mountainside.

We heard countless number of you lend your voices and sing the chorus of this on all 28 dates of the tour.

But on the East Coast tour, something special happened, going back to those special moments that you only get when you see old gods live.

John was joined on stage by fellow musician Michelle Busby, who was with us on the Northeast and Midwest tours, and actor and singer Sarah Doreen McPhee, the voice of Rachel in season three and currently in season four, joined John on stage to form the John Charles Choir.

So live from the stage of the Howard Theater at Howard University in Washington, D.C.,

I give you John Charles Dwyer and the John Charles Choir, Panthers on the Mountainside.

We laid my mama to rest,

and the ridge bowed its head, and I tattooed her name on the top of my wrist.

Six feet too low, when her heart becomes cold,

they'll sniff out her bones and see how bright she glows.

See, I hear that time is a cold hammer's blow.

And the days in this holler are caskets to close.

So I watch the sun sink and pray it may rise.

And hoping the tales I keep buried in my mind.

Of Panther's own,

the mountains inside,

the freedom that comes,

and knowing your bite.

So sharpen my teeth, pray my nails become claws

to finally dig out of this hole we've always called home.

Paul says that he's been here too long

blood wrapped in bones and years in our hole ham and earth wrapped in stone Well, he's rotten with his sin,

and the days all cave

And the USMC fades to gray on his skin.

Now back in his prime, we said reckless and crude.

And here at the end, we say, stubborn as a mule.

So he'll watch the sun sink.

And pray it's his last.

And hope there was light in the tales that he passed

of panthers on

the mountains inside

the freedom that comes

and knowing your bite.

So sharpen my teeth, pray my nails become close

to finally dig out of this hole

we've always called home.

Of panthers on

the mountains inside

the freedom that comes

and knowing your bite.

So sharpen my teeth, pray my nails become claws

to finally dig out of this hole I've always called home.

Thank y'all so much.

Thank you, Michelle and Sarah, for singing with me.

They're badass.

Thank y'all so much.

The John Charles Dwyer and the John Charles Dwyer

of Dark and Trump.
