Speaker 5 The Voice, Monday and Tuesday on NBC.

Speaker 7 In the early morning hours, investigators are called to a tragic roadside scene.

Speaker 14 The victim was punched over to the right towards the passenger side.

Speaker 16 He is no longer alive.

Speaker 11 It was super early that they thought maybe he had fallen asleep at the wheel.

Speaker 7 But they soon find this rural Arizona road played host to something far more sinister.

Speaker 18 There was three rounds to the side of the victim's head.

Speaker 21 This is not a traffic accident.

Speaker 22 This is a homicide.

Speaker 7 Why was this hardworking family man targeted?

Speaker 24 We had no witnesses of any license plates, vehicle descriptions, or anything.

Speaker 26 It just didn't make any sense.

Speaker 27 Who would hunt him down?

Speaker 9 Like a freaking animal.

Speaker 7 One by one, investigators peeled back the lies.

Speaker 24 She said she had cancer of the brain.

Speaker 18 she had all these medical conditions.

Speaker 29 She was crying to me and saying she still loved my brother. She tried to get our whole family to turn against him.

Speaker 7 And a vengeful killer is revealed.

Speaker 6 She said, I'm gonna kill and slapped her across the face.

Speaker 32 She knew how to control these men.

Speaker 3 That was her MO.

Speaker 28 She said, Tomorrow, it better be done.

Speaker 17 Understand the guy's dead. Do you understand where that puts you?

Speaker 7 February 10th, 2020.

Speaker 7 It's just before dawn in eastern Arizona. A local fire chief is driving rural Highway 191 on his way to work just north of the small town of Safford near the Morency Copper Mine.

Speaker 24 A lot of people that work or employed at the mine, they live in Safford, which is 40 minutes away, and they commute.

Speaker 7 On his drive, the fire chief is immediately concerned as he comes around a curve and sees a black SUV wrecked on the side of the road.

Speaker 13 The vehicle was kind of wedged in between the

Speaker 13 roadway and the mountain.

Speaker 32 There was shattered glass on the driver's side window.

Speaker 7 The fire chief pulls over to check for anyone injured in the vehicle. And when he peers inside, he finds the driver unconscious.

Speaker 23 He had blood running down the side of his face.

Speaker 19 He thought, well, maybe he had fallen asleep and crashed on the side of the road.

Speaker 14 He was hunched over to the right towards the passenger side.

Speaker 13 He went to check the victim, and the victim was no longer alive.

Speaker 13 At that point, the fire chief, he's realizing that the victim, he had three bullet holes on the side of his face.

Speaker 14 He's been shocked.

Speaker 7 The fire chief places a call to dispatch.

Speaker 7 Within minutes, investigators with the Clifton Police Department arrive at the rural roadside scene.

Speaker 36 Upon my arrival, there was multiple people on scene.

Speaker 14 The victim appeared to have been shot.

Speaker 13 At that point, they showed me the side of the vehicle, that they saw the bullet holes, and it looked from point of entry from the outside in.

Speaker 14 It looked like a possible road rage incident.

Speaker 7 But as investigators look closer, they begin to develop another theory.

Speaker 32 There was about 14 or 15 rounds that were shot into the side of the vehicle in a tight-net group pattern.

Speaker 28 It didn't fit the mold of a typical road rage because the amount of shots fired on the vehicle. So it led me to believe that there was more to it.

Speaker 7 Detectives search inside the vehicle to identify their victim.

Speaker 36 We found his photo ID that was in his wallet.

Speaker 14 His name is Matthew Meisner.

Speaker 28 I'm thinking this is going to be a tough case.

Speaker 34 It's all located in a very vast canyon. It's dark outside.
Very few people are driving.

Speaker 23 We had no idea of where the suspect went.

Speaker 18 Is he going to do this to another person?

Speaker 23 He had no clue. How am I going to give justice to this man?

Speaker 7 Matthew Meisner was born in 1984. He was raised in Tucson along with two older sisters and a younger brother.

Speaker 11 I was about 10 when he was born. Blonde hair, blue eyes, just

Speaker 11 the cutest little thing with the biggest smile ever.

Speaker 11 As he got older, he got into wrestling.

Speaker 26 I kind of looked up to him, obviously, and wanted to be like him. He was very shy, very shy, but such a sweet guy.
After he graduated high school, he made it to Pimo Community College.

Speaker 26 Matt went there for the wrestling aspect.

Speaker 7 Introverted and reserved, Matthew didn't date much. But in 2011, when Matthew was 26 years old, he met dark-haired beauty Georgina Mendoza at a casino.

Speaker 11 Matthew was drawn to her. She was very an outgoing person, total opposite of what he was, and they were just opposites attracted.

Speaker 7 25-year-old Georgina was also raised in Tucson alongside her two older half-sisters.

Speaker 2 Georgina Georgina Meisner got off to kind of a rough start in life. Her biological father was physically abusive to her mother.

Speaker 3 At two,

Speaker 2 the biological parents separate, and that seems to be a good thing for Georgina.

Speaker 11 Her real father was in prison. Georgina and her mother had a really good relationship, and her stepfather was a very good father figure for her.

Speaker 7 In high school, Georgina was a well-rounded student who stayed busy pursuing soccer, choir, and drama.

Speaker 7 But as she got older, Georgina began to lose interest in these after-school activities and in school altogether.

Speaker 2 Starting in her senior year, she began experimenting with some drugs.

Speaker 2 She actually ended up dropping out of the high school she'd been involved in and doing drugs pretty heavily for about a four-year period.

Speaker 2 And so when she's around 24 and 25, this has been going on for a number of years.

Speaker 15 And she starts realizing this is a problem.

Speaker 2 And at that point, she decides, I need to get some help.

Speaker 7 After a stint in rehab, Georgina spent the next two years focused on staying sober. And in 2011, when she met Matthew, she quickly fell head over heels.

Speaker 14 He loved her unconditionally.

Speaker 11 He knew he was wanting to spend his life with her and have a family with her.

Speaker 7 The couple wed in Phoenix in in 2013. Soon after, Georgina learned she was expecting.
With a baby on the way, Matthew needed to bring in a solid paycheck.

Speaker 7 He applied for work at the Morency Copper Mine about three hours north of Tucson.

Speaker 26 He left his whole family, he left all of his friends here in Tucson to move out there to better his life for his family.

Speaker 38 Matt, he liked being there. He loved his job.
He was just real easy, outgoing, real good guy to get along with.

Speaker 7 Matthew and Georgina settled in the town of Safford, Arizona, about 40 minutes from the mines.

Speaker 7 Soon after, their son was born.

Speaker 11 He was born very premature. I mean, my brother's wedding ring actually fit around his wrist.

Speaker 26 He spent months in the hospital. I knew he was very excited when his son was finally going home.

Speaker 7 A year later, Georgina gave birth to another baby, this time a daughter.

Speaker 11 He was happy to have a little girl, and she was a little daddy's girl too. She loved her daddy.

Speaker 7 In 2017, only two years after giving birth, Georgina learned she was pregnant with their third child. But by then, the pressures of family life were taking a toll on the couple.

Speaker 11 The last year of the relationship when she was pregnant, he'd work, you know, long hours and,

Speaker 11 you know, she would argue with him and it would just be a constant thing.

Speaker 2 He wants to come home and maybe relax. She's with these small kids all day.
It's kind of give, give, give. And so their relationship begins to unravel to some extent.

Speaker 11 He just got tired and he fell out of love with her.

Speaker 7 After close to six years together, the couple filed for divorce in August of 2017.

Speaker 7 Georgina returned to her parents' home in Tucson with the kids and in December of that same year gave birth to her third child.

Speaker 11 When Matthew and Georgina did get divorced, they had a 50-50 custody by the courts.

Speaker 11 He wanted to be cordial and follow the judges' orders, enjoy his time with his kids, but she always wanted to be involved when he would have the kids. She was being more difficult.

Speaker 7 soon after the split matthew found himself taking another shot at romance when he began dating his co-worker

Speaker 38 nicole was a new employee she was real easygoing he saw her and like and the first thing he said is like wow she's hot

Speaker 11 as for georgina she was also moving on She was dating somebody, you know, happy again, and you could see that he loved Nicole. He was able to be himself.

Speaker 11 It was a different kind of love than what I felt like with Georgina. Nicole gave him like life back, made him feel happy again.

Speaker 7 In 2019, Matt and Nicole became engaged with plans to marry on St. Patrick's Day, 2020.

Speaker 7 But that day would never come.

Speaker 7 With the wedding less than two months away, 35-year-old Matthew is found dead on Highway 191.

Speaker 14 i began walking the scene and taking photographs this happened so early in the morning that it was still dark outside

Speaker 7 investigators carefully comb the roadside for evidence the problem is they aren't finding any there was not a single shell casing on that highway and if it was a road rage probably not thought out, would have left shells around on the ground.

Speaker 23 That tells me again that whoever it was at that point had it planned out.

Speaker 18 This man, they wanted him dead.

Speaker 7 Coming up, a surprise appearance at the scene has detectives asking questions.

Speaker 39 Greenlee County just told me that the girlfriend is up top at the barricade.

Speaker 23 I took pictures of her car thinking maybe she was in on this.

Speaker 7 And a possible motive is revealed.

Speaker 15 The next day on February 11th was the custody hearing where possibly Matthew was going to get cus fee of the children.

Speaker 7 Arizona authorities are searching for answers after a passing driver discovered 35-year-old Matthew Meisner dead inside his vehicle from three gunshot wounds to the head.

Speaker 28 After Matthew was discovered around five o'clock in the morning, we got a medical examiner on scene with us, and there were three rounds to the side of Mr.

Speaker 32 Meisner's head from a nine-millimeter.

Speaker 24 We had no witnesses of any license plates, vehicle descriptions, or anything.

Speaker 39 It's just amazing to me how

Speaker 39 everyone driving through right now, and

Speaker 39 nobody saw anything.

Speaker 39 Like that many shots, you had to somebody had to have seen the flash of the freaking barrel.

Speaker 13 like there's no way

Speaker 7 surprisingly an hour later investigators receive word that a woman claiming to be matthew's fiancé has just arrived at the scene

Speaker 3 greenley county just told me that the girlfriend is up top at the barricade nicole chicon was up at the top of the horseshoe curve

Speaker 7 Detectives head up the road, but before they talk with Nicole, they cover their bases.

Speaker 28 I took pictures of Nicole's car thinking maybe she was in on this. We didn't know it.

Speaker 7 Nicole is desperate for more information about the wrecked SUV on the highway. She's concerned it may be her fiancé's.

Speaker 34 She told us Matthew Miser worked at the mine as Nicole also worked at the mine as an employee at that point.

Speaker 7 According to Nicole, Matthew left for work around 4 a.m. that day, and less than an hour later, she followed.

Speaker 13 She did state that she had initially passed by an accident on the horseshoe, exited her car when she saw a black vehicle, approached where the deputies were, but didn't want to get in trouble.

Speaker 14 So she got back in her vehicle and left back up towards Morenzi for work.

Speaker 7 Nicole says once she arrived at work and realized Matthew wasn't there, panic set in.

Speaker 14 She realized that it possibly was Matthew, and that is when she had left work, went to the scene, um, to the barricade, and she advised who she was.

Speaker 22 At that point, she did not know that he had been shot, and she was very confused.

Speaker 18 I explained to her that this is not a traffic accident, and this is a homicide investigation, and her fiancé is now dead.

Speaker 28 Nicole didn't take it it well.

Speaker 19 She began to cry and total shock.

Speaker 3 It

Speaker 3 was heartbreaking to see.

Speaker 7 Despite Nicole's honest reaction to Matthew's death, investigators still need to rule her out.

Speaker 3 We did a gun swab on her hand and just checked for powder residue.

Speaker 7 While investigators wait for results from the residue test, they ask Nicole if Matthew had anyone in his life who would want to harm him.

Speaker 23 Nicole says he was very loved at the mine.

Speaker 18 He had good friends that supported him.

Speaker 21 But she told us Matthew Meiser, he had an ex-wife.

Speaker 18 Her name was Georgina Meisner.

Speaker 23 She had three children, and they had been divorced.

Speaker 35 The only issues that she had was with Georgina Meisner.

Speaker 7 Nicole says their problems with Georgina started about six months ago when Matt's ex-wife revealed some alarming news.

Speaker 35 Georgina said she had cancer.

Speaker 11 She sent actually pictures of her with her head shaved. She said, I tried chemo, it about killed me, and I stopped.
And the medicine I was taking gave me really bad headaches.

Speaker 7 While Nicole and Matthew were prepared to jump in and help, Georgina inexplicably withdrew.

Speaker 13 Georgina was making it very difficult for Matthew to have any sort of visitation with the children.

Speaker 12 Matthew wasn't denied visitation to his children.

Speaker 32 As much as he tried and tried and tried, Georgina denied him those visitation.

Speaker 37 This put a strain on Nicole.

Speaker 22 Nicole at one point confronted Georgina about the visitation.

Speaker 19 Now,

Speaker 34 Georgina, she slapped Nicole and they got into a scuffle.

Speaker 7 Following the incident, Nicole says that Georgina upped the auntie in their feud by filing an official complaint.

Speaker 2 Georgina's calling up Child Protective Services. She's saying that Matthew's abusing the kids, that Nicole is abusing the kids.

Speaker 2 Child Protective Services, they have to investigate this and can't find any evidence that any abuse is going on. And Matthew is saying is this is completely made up.

Speaker 29 I saw her in December.

Speaker 20 She was crying to me and saying she still loved my brother and she didn't like Nicole.

Speaker 29 That's when she told me she had cancer and she was going to die.

Speaker 7 Nicole tells police that on February 5th, 2020, Matthew, concerned over both Georgina's physical and mental health, filed for full custody.

Speaker 6 The next day on that Tuesday, February 11th was the custody hearing, where possibly Matthew was going to get some sort of custody of the children.

Speaker 23 Nicole thought they had such a strong case that Georgina was going to lose the kids.

Speaker 33 After hearing this from Nicole, it did lead us to believe that Georgina was one of our prime suspects.

Speaker 7 Just as they identified Georgina as a person of interest, Investigators get word that a potential witness has called in to the Safford Police Department.

Speaker 14 We got a tip. Our witness who was driving through the area to go to work passed by after it had just initially happened.

Speaker 19 I answered the phone and talked to him, and he had saw the vehicle on the side of the road.

Speaker 23 He didn't know that it was a homicide at that point.

Speaker 3 He thought it was a blowout.

Speaker 28 And then he saw a white sedan that had made a U-turn and accelerated.

Speaker 21 At that point, in my mind, I thought this vehicle was fleeing the scene.

Speaker 7 Coming up, investigators are on the hunt for the driver of the white car.

Speaker 22 She said, well, Matthew was in Tucson.

Speaker 33 There was a man that took a picture of our license plate.

Speaker 7 And a crucial piece of evidence is uncovered.

Speaker 14 They were conducting the search warrant of the residence, and that is when they found the 9mm Ruger.

Speaker 11 Do I have time for men?

Speaker 8 Yes, I do. Let's party.

Speaker 27 I'm a baddie. The real housewives of Potomac are back.

Speaker 8 I know she ain't bring TJ around.

Speaker 8 Get back with her men.

Speaker 7 Oh, my God.

Speaker 10 Lied for a year, Stacey.

Speaker 7 Are we still talking about your situation?

Speaker 36 Don't let this accent fool you.

Speaker 10 I never touched you around my house, Stacy. You don't have one.

Speaker 7 I'm so confused. All new the Real Housewives of Potomac Monday watch Bravo on Peacock

Speaker 11 Hi, I'm here to pick up my son Milo.

Speaker 7 There's no Milo here.

Speaker 17 Who picked up my son from school?

Speaker 5 Streaming only on Peacock.

Speaker 7 I'm gonna need the name of everyone that could have a connection.

Speaker 7 You don't understand. It was just the five of us.
So this was all planned.

Speaker 3 What are you gonna do?

Speaker 7 I will do whatever it takes to get my son back. I honestly didn't see this coming.
These nice people

Speaker 7 killing each other.

Speaker 4 All her fault.

Speaker 5 A new series streaming now, only on Peacock.

Speaker 7 Investigators are on the scene of the cold-blooded roadside shooting of father of three Matthew Meisner when they receive a tip from a potential witness.

Speaker 23 A man called and he had told me he was headed.

Speaker 33 to work and he had actually followed Mr.

Speaker 37 Meisner for miles and miles from Safford.

Speaker 21 At one point, he lost him.

Speaker 18 Mr. Meisner was traveling a little faster and he got behind.

Speaker 20 He actually heard a pop and he didn't know it was a gunshot.

Speaker 18 He saw Mr. Meisner's vehicle on the side of the road and right in front of Mr.
Meisner's vehicle was a white car out of nowhere.

Speaker 21 Just made a U-turn, went southbound on 191, and it started accelerating.

Speaker 7 Given the time of day the shooting took place and the lack of cars on the road, This white vehicle fleeing the scene so quickly after shots were fired strikes investigator Ellison as more than suspicious.

Speaker 21 In my mind, I'm like, this is our guy.

Speaker 28 This is who shot Mr.

Speaker 18 Meisner.

Speaker 7 He immediately follows this lead and runs the information by Matthew's fiancé, Nicole.

Speaker 28 And I said, Nicole, do you have know of anybody that drives a white car would want to cause harm on Matthew?

Speaker 18 And she says, you know, I do remember while Matthew was in Tucson and there was a a man that had got out of his vehicle and he took a picture of our license plate.

Speaker 13 On February 5th, Matthew had been trying to get the kids that day and was parked by Georgina's residence.

Speaker 21 Matthew was actually on the phone with Nicole at the time and tell him, hey, this guy just took a picture of our license plate. Nicole says, why don't you take one of his plate?

Speaker 33 So he did, and he texted the picture of the plate to Nicole.

Speaker 28 Nicole pulls out her phone and says, I have a picture of it right here.

Speaker 7 Matthew took the photo of the white sedan just five days before he was killed. And a vehicle with an eerily similar description was seen racing away from the crime scene.

Speaker 12 I was excited.

Speaker 35 Once we had discovered we had the picture, this was our chance.

Speaker 7 Detectives run the plate and they find the vehicle is registered to two owners.

Speaker 21 The license plate came back to Edward Montaño Jr.

Speaker 37 and Mr.

Speaker 3 Sandoval, Eduardo's grandpa.

Speaker 18 Edward Montaño had two misdemeanor warrants and that is when the sheriff had called Pima County and asked them to apprehend him.

Speaker 7 A few hours later, they arrive at the home where Eduardo Montaño lives with his grandfather, Samuel Sandoval.

Speaker 18 As we arrived on scene, he had already been placed under arrest for the two misdemeanor warrants.

Speaker 14 At that point on scene, I did read Eduardo as Miranda rights, and he agreed to speak with us.

Speaker 33 In the driveway, there was a white Cadillac, which had dark window tint, and it really looked, to me, like it fed the description of what the witness had said.

Speaker 7 As authorities await search warrants on the home and car, investigators take Eduardo to the Pima County Sheriff's Office for questioning.

Speaker 41 Where were you last night? I went to my friend John's house. We went to my friend Lisa's house.

Speaker 17 He didn't go anyplace else last night.

Speaker 7 While Eduardo denies being anywhere near the crime scene, detectives know his vehicle was at Georgina's home the day Matthew took a photo of his license plate.

Speaker 7 They have a hunch this was no coincidence.

Speaker 7 How do you know Georgina? Georgina? Yeah. She's a friend of mine.

Speaker 7 How well do you know her?

Speaker 41 We tried dating,

Speaker 41 but it didn't work out.

Speaker 41 What about her?

Speaker 41 Her family?

Speaker 41 I've hung out with her and her kids a couple times.

Speaker 41 So who's Matt?

Speaker 41 Her ex-husband, father of her children. I have not yet known they're like in a custody battle or something right.

Speaker 41 You ever had any contact with her? Me? Never. No.
Do we have a report of Vatsy stating that you were taking photographs of his vehicle? I never taught him.

Speaker 7 Having established a connection to Matthew and Georgina, investigators press Eduardo again on his whereabouts the night before.

Speaker 41 We wouldn't drive three and a half hours to talk to you about something. We didn't know a lot more than.

Speaker 3 Right.

Speaker 41 Well, I know my grandfather mentioned there was an accident in the Clifton or something that i may have been involved in but well how were you involved in it i don't know i wasn't in an accident see your car was up there this morning it was i swear to you it was not

Speaker 17 you understand the guy's dead do you understand where that put you

Speaker 41 yeah i completely understand but i'm just not saying i was not there

Speaker 7 Eduardo insists after hanging out with his friends, he returned home to his grandparents' house.

Speaker 17 You stayed home with your grandmother. Yeah.

Speaker 17 All right.

Speaker 17 Yeah, all night.

Speaker 7 But investigators aren't buying it.

Speaker 41 Who's the Cadillac belong to that deliver that?

Speaker 41 It's my car, but my grandfather's name is in my grandfather's name.

Speaker 17 Did you drive it yesterday?

Speaker 17 Yesterday, I did not.

Speaker 41 Did you let anybody else use your car? No. No? Then how come your car is in the Clifton area? My car was not in the Clifton area, I wasn't.

Speaker 13 During the interview, he does advise that Regina does confide in him with things that are kind of going on in her life and as far as the child custody issues.

Speaker 13 He claimed he didn't personally know Matthew, but I definitely believe that he had some sort of involvement.

Speaker 7 Back at the residence, investigators follow up on Eduardo's alibi with his grandfather.

Speaker 18 I asked Mr. Sandoval, was Edward there all night?

Speaker 24 And he said, no.

Speaker 6 Matter of of fact, he wasn't here.

Speaker 21 He left at 10 o'clock at night. He didn't come back to about 8 or 8.30 in the morning.

Speaker 21 The time periods, they all lined up.

Speaker 19 The shooting happens around 5 o'clock.

Speaker 22 I guess sufficient time to drive that vehicle from 5 o'clock three hours to get back in Tucson.

Speaker 7 With the circumstantial evidence piling up against Eduardo, the search for physical evidence is underway.

Speaker 7 After coming up empty in the Cadillac, investigators head into the house.

Speaker 14 They were conducting the search warrant of the residence, and that is when they found the nine millimeter Ruger inside of Eduardo's bedroom.

Speaker 28 We knew that the rounds to the side of Mr.

Speaker 18 Meischer's head were from a nine millimeter.

Speaker 7 That's not all that links the gun to Matthew's murder.

Speaker 20 It had four rounds left in the magazines, which appeared to be the exact amounts that were shot into the side of Matthew's car.

Speaker 21 We pulled out 14 rounds out of the side of the vehicle.

Speaker 20 It tied the gun with the car, and it tied the gun to Eduardo.

Speaker 7 Investigators send the gun for forensic testing.

Speaker 14 We had enough probable cause to request an arrest warrant, which was granted.

Speaker 13 By the evening of the 10th, Eduardo was under arrest for homicide.

Speaker 7 While investigators have enough to link Eduardo to the murder, what they don't yet know is why he would kill Matthew Meisner.

Speaker 7 They turn their focus back to their initial suspect, Matthew's ex-wife, Georgina.

Speaker 14 We're a very small department.

Speaker 13 We followed every lead. And the day of, we arrested Eduardo.

Speaker 40 Now, I'm trying to figure out who may have else been involved.

Speaker 13 The fact that him and Georgina were such good of friends, the fact that the court hearing was coming up and she didn't want to lose custody of her children.

Speaker 14 My next step was to speak to Georgina.

Speaker 7 The day after the murder, police tracked Georgina down at her mother's house.

Speaker 39 Georgina's emotions were just kind of all over the place. She's happy.
She was crying.

Speaker 14 She was mad.

Speaker 13 Georgina's demeanor almost to me appeared rehearsed.

Speaker 7 Investigators ask Georgina about her relationship with Matthew.

Speaker 23 Georgina told me that she did not want Matthew to have the kids because she did not like Nicole.

Speaker 34 She thought Nicole was a very abusive woman. She also thought Mr.

Speaker 19 Meisner was a very abusive man.

Speaker 7 Georgina recounts her version of the physical altercation with Nicole back in October.

Speaker 31 Nicole said, that bitch, f you.

Speaker 42 She said, you don't need to call me a bitch at my house in front of my kids.

Speaker 17 She said, I'm going to f you up.

Speaker 43 I slapped her across the face.

Speaker 42 She grabs me, throws me to the ground.

Speaker 30 Starts hitting me, hitting me, and I'm just stop.

Speaker 43 I didn't feel safe with Nicole.

Speaker 42 I knew what I needed to do. I put in temporary soul custody.

Speaker 7 Investigators steer the questioning toward Eduardo.

Speaker 42 Eddie puts around my kids. We dated maybe a month at the most.

Speaker 43 You told them about False Warmer, the kids and yourself, as far as the abuse.

Speaker 42 I know that I talked to Eddie, and I was very probably woe-is me, woe is me, like

Speaker 42 everything I'm going through.

Speaker 42 And then he told me some stuff

Speaker 39 about his childhood.

Speaker 31 It was rough.

Speaker 43 I felt bad for the guy.

Speaker 20 Ed Wordle himself has experienced abuse in his life.

Speaker 28 Georgina knew this.

Speaker 43 Did he say anything about protecting the kids?

Speaker 42 He just says that he's not. He just doesn't want nobody to hurt him.

Speaker 34 She knew Ed Wordle's emotions.

Speaker 33 She knew he had this troubled life.

Speaker 6 We thought maybe she was playing at against Ed Wordle to do her will.

Speaker 7 Coming up, investigators finally confront Georgina about Matthew's murder.

Speaker 6 I felt like she knew more than what she was leading on.

Speaker 7 And later, investigators unearth a dirty lie.

Speaker 23 She actually got photos off the internet and said, hey, look, Matthew, I'm dying.

Speaker 7 Investigators in Arizona have already arrested 36-year-old Eduardo Montaño in relation to Matthew Meisner's death.

Speaker 7 They suspect that Matthew's ex-wife, Georgina, may also be involved, but they need proof.

Speaker 7 Just do days, weeks, months.

Speaker 42 I don't know, I can't tell you. Like, I can't give you even an estimate.

Speaker 30 Like, I wish I could.

Speaker 42 I can

Speaker 7 when they ask georgina if she was involved in matthew's murder she stops the interview

Speaker 7 i don't want to say anything else

Speaker 6 i'm not sure what to believe because we've heard so many stories

Speaker 31 i don't trust you yet

Speaker 13 at the point she shuts down and i felt like she knew more than what she was leading on

Speaker 2 As part of the investigation, they seize Georgina's phone. They're interested in the text and the phone messages and that kind of thing with Eduardo.

Speaker 7 While they wait for a review of Georgina's phone, investigators turn to Matthew's family for more insight.

Speaker 26 It just didn't make any sense.

Speaker 27 Who would hunt him down

Speaker 9 like a freaking animal

Speaker 27 and sit there and wait for him

Speaker 7 and then just shoot him?

Speaker 7 But when it comes to to Georgina, the memories are far less pleasant.

Speaker 7 They say when Matt tried to exercise his visitation rights, Georgina launched serious allegations against him, claiming Matt had been abusing the children.

Speaker 29 She tried to get us to go to court and say he was a bad father.

Speaker 29 And when I told her I wasn't going to do it, that's when she stopped communication.

Speaker 7 Investigators find no evidence to support Georgina's allegations.

Speaker 34 We talked to multiple people through the Department of Child Services.

Speaker 23 There was nothing that indicated that Matthew abused those children.

Speaker 7 Investigators continue to dig. They begin to believe that the abuse wasn't the only thing Georgina lied about.

Speaker 23 During the investigation, we discovered that Georgina, she did not have cancer.

Speaker 18 All these medical conditions were false allegations.

Speaker 20 She actually got photos off the internet and said, hey, look, Matthew, I'm dying.

Speaker 21 I have cancer. We actually found the same picture that Georgina sent to Matthew on the internet.

Speaker 2 This is a woman who is so manipulative that she's actually lying about having a life-threatening illness.

Speaker 11 Georgina wanted us to believe that matthew was not the person who we all thought he was she wanted us to believe her and just stay on her side

Speaker 7 police are certain that georgina is a master manipulator but they don't have solid evidence of much else We believed that Edwardo was set up to kill Matthew through Georgina, but we didn't have that concrete evidence to pull them together.

Speaker 7 Finally, on February 25th, two weeks after the murder, investigators obtain a trove of previously deleted text messages between Georgina and Eduardo, recovered from Georgina's phone.

Speaker 14 I discover that Georgina start talking about the fact that Eduardo is in the area of Matthew's residence.

Speaker 28 It appeared through the text messages that Eduardo had been stalking Matthew.

Speaker 3 He was following him at his house.

Speaker 36 At one point, Eduardo asks Georgina for Nicole's address, and she describes when Nicole drives and provides Eduardo with that.

Speaker 7 It's also clear that Eduardo and Georgina are far closer than either admitted.

Speaker 13 She tells him at points that she loves him.

Speaker 7 Then, on the eve of Matthew's murder, Georgina reminds Eduardo of her upcoming custody hearing and presents an eerie ultimatum.

Speaker 19 She says, you know, I'm having this custody battle tomorrow.

Speaker 20 It better be done.

Speaker 20 Eduardo says, hey, I don't want to do this. I really don't think that I have this in me to do this.

Speaker 20 And she responds back saying, if you want to marry me, you need to show me what kind of man you are.

Speaker 7 Eduardo then sends Georgina a damning text sealing both their fates and Matthew's.

Speaker 13 He says, do you want me to notify you once it's done?

Speaker 13 And she basically responds, I think it'll be best if it comes as a surprise.

Speaker 7 Only 10 hours after these texts, Matthew is found dead and Eduardo's car is placed at the scene.

Speaker 7 It's clear to investigators that while Eduardo pulled the trigger, it was Georgina who pulled the strings.

Speaker 32 She knew how to control him.

Speaker 35 She was manipulative.

Speaker 34 And that was her MO.

Speaker 34 She knew Eduardo's emotions.

Speaker 33 She knew he had this troubled life.

Speaker 35 And she was playing at against Eduardo to do her will.

Speaker 13 At that point in the investigation, I immediately was like, in these messages, is enough probable cause to believe that Georgina is involved in planning Matthew Meisner's murder.

Speaker 7 The following morning, police arrive at Georgina Meisner's home to arrest her for the murder of her ex-husband, Matthew.

Speaker 39 Clifton police! Hi.

Speaker 11 Hi, is Georgina here?

Speaker 17 Yeah, you want to talk to her?

Speaker 17 Please, hi.

Speaker 39 Okay, I need to turn around, put your hands behind your back. Georgina Meisner, you're under the arrest for for first-degree murder.
Conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

Speaker 11 Do you understand?

Speaker 29 My mom called me at work and told me that Georgina's been arrested. I cried, and

Speaker 29 I first thing that came to my head is those poor kids.

Speaker 14 Those poor kids.

Speaker 29 Because now they've lost both parents.

Speaker 7 Coming up, will Georgina finally come clean? Not

Speaker 7 Or will this master manipulator work her magic on a jury?

Speaker 12 It was all about Georgina and how she felt and she was the victim.

Speaker 7 Investigators in Arizona have placed Georgina Meisner under arrest for her role in the murder of her ex-husband, Matthew. But she's not talking.

Speaker 13 She never disclosed anything to us.

Speaker 14 Her family actually called their lawyer.

Speaker 7 With two suspects in custody, investigators review the results from forensic testing on the gun found in Eduardo's bedroom.

Speaker 14 The gun was sent off for evidence and the casings from the vehicle to the weapon did match.

Speaker 7 Investigators pieced together that in the early morning hours of February 10th, 2020, Eduardo waited at Horseshoe Bend watching for Matthew's black SUV.

Speaker 40 Eduardo had followed him and had chose that spot where it was more or less an open spot.

Speaker 14 There's no surveillance.

Speaker 2 Eduardo waits for Matthew Meisner to drive by, like he does every single day on his way to work.

Speaker 7 Investigators believe when Eduardo finally saw Matthew's SUV, he pulled up alongside him and took aim.

Speaker 2 He is going to make sure that he does not fail and he unloads his bullets into that car.

Speaker 2 And Matthew runs off the road.

Speaker 7 With the evidence stacked against him, in September 2020, Eduardo agrees to a deal. He pleads guilty to second-degree murder and is sentenced to 33 years and nine months in prison.

Speaker 21 Eduardo Montagno, he at the end signs a plea agreement to the murder of Matthew Meisner.

Speaker 7 Through it all, Eduardo refuses to implicate Georgina. But prosecutors theorize it was the false allegations of abuse that motivated him to take action that day.

Speaker 28 Eduardo, he did not want these kids abused, and so he thought: if I go to prison, it's no big deal.

Speaker 37 At least I'm saving these children and they will have stability in their lives.

Speaker 7 In November 2020, Georgina Meisner also agrees to a plea. Murder in the second degree and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault.

Speaker 13 There was enough evidence and she knew that there was no way to say she was not involved in this case.

Speaker 7 At her sentencing on January 5th, 2021, Georgina asks for leniency before the judge.

Speaker 12 It was all about Georgina and how she felt and she was the victim.

Speaker 11 She made her statement. She was very fake, trying to like force tears out to apologize, but it wasn't really apologizing for anything that had happened.

Speaker 36 It was all about her.

Speaker 28 Nothing really about Matt at all.

Speaker 36 We never got a sorry.

Speaker 13 Like, I'm sorry for your loss. I'm sorry.

Speaker 29 Not a remorse.

Speaker 7 The judge sentences Georgina to 33 years and nine months.

Speaker 13 Georgina did get sentenced the same amount of time as Edfardo did for her involvement.

Speaker 11 When the judge handed down her decision, she held nothing back. She told her

Speaker 11 what a manipulative person she was.

Speaker 38 She even said she had cancer.

Speaker 38 And

Speaker 38 it was all a lie to get the family to feel sorry for her. Oh, she's got cancer.
Poor girl.

Speaker 7 But even with Georgina behind bars and her lies exposed, exposed, Matthew's family still grapples with the lasting impact of her actions.

Speaker 26 I honestly am still baffled to this day how she could take the father of her kids away from them like that.

Speaker 27 He was way too nice of a human being.

Speaker 16 He would literally never harm a soul.

Speaker 29 He loved those kids more than anything in the world.

Speaker 29 And she took that away.

Speaker 36 And now those kids have no parents.

Speaker 7 Per the terms of her plea agreement, Georgina Meisner is not eligible for early release. She will be 65 years old when she is released from prison in 2052.
