Speaker 11 Chapter 4
Speaker 11 Pre-Game
Speaker 11 Part two of two.
Speaker 12 Walk single file, hands in front, and cross like you're detained.
Speaker 5 What?
Speaker 14 Make it look like we're being escorted. Oh.
Speaker 15 Don't need to explain it to me.
Speaker 16 I'm glad we left him behind.
Speaker 5 Who?
Speaker 17 Vincent?
Speaker 5 Yeah.
Speaker 15 Where did you pick that guy up from?
Speaker 12 Washing out his gear in a creek bed.
Speaker 12
I was already there under the tree. He didn't see me.
It was too easy.
Speaker 14 That's all you know?
Speaker 17 Yeah, he had no ID.
Speaker 14 Nothing.
Speaker 12 Same as Alvin. Then again, who does?
Speaker 13 You're the ones with the barcodes. Easy to spot out here.
Speaker 5 Mm-hmm.
Speaker 15 Yeah, I'm uh starting to notice that.
Speaker 15 Is there any way to lose these tattoos? Wow, so quickly?
Speaker 12
You're right. There might be some like old world ways, but good luck with that.
People brand for a reason.
Speaker 14 This isn't a brand. It's a sign of commitment.
Speaker 13 Followers got tons of those, let me tell you. Tattoos are very sacred to Ink and his followers.
Speaker 16 Then where are yours?
Speaker 5 Don't like needles.
Speaker 13 That's where my devoutness ends.
Speaker 17 Wait a sec.
Speaker 17 You actually liked Ink? That fucking madman who experimented on all those infected?
Speaker 13 Madman? He saw something in them. Maybe saw something we didn't or don't even see in ourselves.
Speaker 17 Yeah, you say that until they're trying to tear your damn face off.
Speaker 13 Uh-huh. Their way of survival is simple but honest.
Speaker 3 You know where you stand.
Speaker 13 But look at what man creates and forces others to build.
Speaker 5 Damn. Whoa.
Speaker 17 Those are the walls of the arenas?
Speaker 12 That one's called Mountain Range.
Speaker 12 On the other side, there's a bunch of rock walls, rough terrain, steep.
Speaker 15 Massive.
Speaker 13 You want to guess who built this?
Speaker 13 You are the fighters. The workers live somewhere else.
Speaker 13 Can one hate men as much as infecting?
Speaker 15 Oh, it's possible.
Speaker 13 And which is more capable of evil? Save your preaching. We hear you.
Speaker 17 How many prisoners are held here?
Speaker 13
Thousands. I heard.
Damn.
Speaker 17 And they made all this?
Speaker 5 Yeah, with modern tools by bigger fools.
Speaker 14 This whole northern stretch is the Mountain Range Arena.
Speaker 13 Yeah, and to the east is Winter Wonderland.
Speaker 5 Huh.
Speaker 12 That's new.
Speaker 16 Look at the size of the dome.
Speaker 13 Pretty crazy, right?
Speaker 13 Super AC.
Speaker 16 It actually has snow inside?
Speaker 13 I heard it does.
Speaker 14 Down there's the train station where we were brought in.
Speaker 13 I think so.
Speaker 13 That monorail there takes the
Speaker 13 guests around from hotel to hotel. Or observation deck.
Speaker 8 That's where they watch.
Speaker 3 Hotels?
Speaker 13 There can't be that many people that watch these.
Speaker 5 Oh shit.
Speaker 5 It's a lot of people.
Speaker 1 Did someone win?
Speaker 12 Or lose?
Speaker 12 Oh my god.
Speaker 12 What?
Speaker 13 This is fucking nuts.
Speaker 5 Breathe, you guys.
Speaker 15 What's to say we don't make a break for it now?
Speaker 12 You think I would just let you go at this point? That would be my ass and you'd be dead before you even reached the wall, so don't think about it.
Speaker 16 It's all one sick joke.
Speaker 16 Alvin, you said it was close.
Speaker 14 This is it.
Speaker 13 Right here. Come on.
Speaker 5 You're kidding, right?
Speaker 13 That's not right.
Speaker 15 You fucked us already?
Speaker 5 It worked before.
Speaker 12 Things can change quickly.
Speaker 16 We need to turn around.
Speaker 3 It's a new card. It should work.
Speaker 12 We're fucked, aren't we, Alvin?
Speaker 14 Someone is gonna notice us. What happens if we get caught?
Speaker 12 Technically, it's cheating.
Speaker 17 And that means disqualification.
Speaker 16 And I think I know what that means.
Speaker 14 Exactly. So open the damn door.
Speaker 19 Yeah, come on.
Speaker 5 Works. Old reader.
Speaker 17 Perfect. In, in, everybody get in.
Speaker 14 There's nothing in here.
Speaker 5 Yeah.
Speaker 17 You're screwing us again and again on purpose or what?
Speaker 5 No.
Speaker 13
This is the ground floor. We need to get to the observation lab.
This way.
Speaker 15 Farther down the rabbit hole, we're gonna get caught in.
Speaker 15 Whoa.
Speaker 5 Oh, God.
Speaker 13 Like I said,
Speaker 5 you're good.
Speaker 12 Look, no one would willingly come in here.
Speaker 17
So, some dumbass gave you the keys. Why don't you just let all the infected out? Make them all pay.
Jurassic park their fucking asses.
Speaker 13 I can only open a few doors. Don't overestimate what I can do.
Speaker 13 I think we can all fit.
Speaker 5 Well, Floy, three.
Speaker 16 We aren't going to have much time. We need to speed this up.
Speaker 13 The map is in the middle on the left. Stay away from the windows if you don't want them to see you.
Speaker 14 Wait, the infected can see us.
Speaker 13 We're above them, so not well. Unless you get up close to the glass.
Speaker 16 Stay in the middle of the room. Got it.
Speaker 16 Oh,
Speaker 11 Hey, um,
Speaker 5 everyone. Oh, uh,
Speaker 5 what's up? Uh, man, how you doing?
Speaker 17 There's no one here, huh?
Speaker 5 Hello, sir.
Speaker 20 We'll just be out of your way, and if you'll excuse us.
Speaker 19 You work in IM?
Speaker 5 Yeah, uh, uh, I'm new. Alvin.
Speaker 13 You can call me Al.
Speaker 3 Most people do.
Speaker 19 The guy who loves infected? Uh, took the old man's spot. The boar was saying something about you.
Speaker 5 Really?
Speaker 19 What what are they doing here?
Speaker 19 This place is restricted.
Speaker 5 Oh, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 17 I mean, we're just here to see all these uh funky things.
Speaker 15 I wanted to show off to my girlfriend.
Speaker 5 Sorry, male.
Speaker 15 Uh, I don't think I got your name.
Speaker 5 Will.
Speaker 17
Will, Alex, nice to meet you, man. Yeah, yeah.
Uh, I'm sorry, my name is Alex. Uh, yeah, Alvin was saying that we should come take a look in here and, you know.
Speaker 14 That we wouldn't believe it. That you had so many different kinds of cool things in here.
Speaker 3 Yeah, yeah, where's the big new one?
Speaker 5 You know, green-eyed Bill.
Speaker 19 You're not supposed to be here, are you?
Speaker 5 We are
Speaker 5 smell coming through here, so we decided to come check it out.
Speaker 19 They already announced you as contenders. Your names and faces are all over the posters.
Speaker 17 What?
Speaker 17 No, we're not.
Speaker 15 Except it's so crazy.
Speaker 12 They must have got us.
Speaker 16 Please don't tell anyone. We just wanted to see the map just to give us a chance.
Speaker 4 That's it. Lisa.
Speaker 17 Are you fucking kidding me?
Speaker 11 Are you serious?
Speaker 12 No, we're not.
Speaker 19 You know what the boar would do to me if she found out that someone rigged her games?
Speaker 19 She'd be pissed.
Speaker 5 We're sorry. We were just
Speaker 5 trying to do it like
Speaker 17 that.
Speaker 19 You're never gonna get the whole map done in time. It'd take you forever to draw out all those details.
Speaker 19 I might as well just print you out a copy.
Speaker 11 No shit.
Speaker 19 Yeah, no, no, no shit. It's cruel what they do.
Speaker 5 It is.
Speaker 17 You know, it's so great to hear you say that.
Speaker 20 I knew I liked you well.
Speaker 16 Thank God someone here isn't crazy.
Speaker 12 He's not crazy. He's a captive.
Speaker 5 Uh,
Speaker 19 maybe both.
Speaker 19
Damn it. Not again.
I just fixed you. These monitor systems are garbage.
Speaker 5 Wait, wait, wait.
Speaker 14 You're the one who fixes all this?
Speaker 8 You're a maintenance guy.
Speaker 19 Well, yeah, you can say that. I do a lot of
Speaker 19 little things.
Speaker 16 How long have you been here?
Speaker 19 What do you mean? I've always been here.
Speaker 14 Wait, always?
Speaker 14 Like you were born here?
Speaker 19 Of course.
Speaker 5 Where are you from? Not here.
Speaker 19 Westport, right?
Speaker 13 You've lived here your whole life?
Speaker 5 Under them?
Speaker 19 Well, really, I get to do a lot. Better than most.
Speaker 19
Alright, here you go. Now don't let anyone find you with that.
Burn it or eat it if you have to.
Speaker 15 Hey, we appreciate you sticking your neck out for us.
Speaker 14 We really, really do.
Speaker 5 Yeah.
Speaker 15 Thank you. Nicholas Tink.
Speaker 19 William Walden. Or just Will.
Speaker 19 I hope you will all make it through.
Speaker 19 We better get moving.
Speaker 13 Before you go, spend a few minutes looking at all the charts. Everything we know about each infected is on there.
Speaker 13 And if you want to see what you're going to be up against, step close to the glass.
Speaker 16 I'm just going to take notes.
Speaker 17 Yeah, you better be good at hiding those.
Speaker 19 This is why you brought them?
Speaker 13 I have a feeling. If I have any chance of getting through this, it's with them.
Speaker 17 Come on, let's go. Start memorizing.
Speaker 13 I know a few more details about some of these infected from my time on the frontier. Let me know if you need any help.
Speaker 13 Holy shit.
Speaker 5 Are you guys seeing this? Look at that one.
Speaker 16 Alex, not so close to the the glass.
Speaker 12 Two minutes, guys, and we're out.
Speaker 13 Outside, come on. I'll guide you back.
Speaker 12 Hands in front of you, you know the drill, make it look good.
Speaker 15 Hey, thanks, Will. We appreciate it.
Speaker 19 I'll be rooting for you.
Speaker 19 I was last time, too.
Speaker 5 For me?
Speaker 12 Thank you.
Speaker 19 That was a hell of an escape you pulled off with Derringer.
Speaker 16 Derringer?
Speaker 12 It worked out in the end, didn't it? We gotta go.
Speaker 19 Best of luck. I-I-I-Wish you the best.
Speaker 19 You better go. It's time.
Speaker 5 You alright, Will?
Speaker 18 Yeah. Didn't catch an infection in there now, did you?
Speaker 19 No, I'm fine. This is something else.
Speaker 19 I just need my medication. But you need to go.
Speaker 5 Okay.
Speaker 13 Hey, we gone.
Speaker 17 Thanks, pal.
Speaker 14 None of this happened.
Speaker 19 That's right. Goodbye.
Speaker 5 Bye.
Speaker 19 Pleasure to meet you, Lisa.
Speaker 15 I uh I saw the way he was looking at you.
Speaker 16 He was not.
Speaker 16 Yeah.
Speaker 5 Follow me.
Speaker 5 Walk and walk fast. That took longer than I wanted.
Speaker 14 Derringer, the guy in the train, that was your partner?
Speaker 13 Was.
Speaker 17 Like, from the arena together?
Speaker 12 And yet it still didn't fucking matter. Threw it all away because he didn't want to share.
Speaker 12 He would have left me with nothing.
Speaker 15 Considering we're your captives and wouldn't be here if you failed.
Speaker 12 I've had enough talking and walking in circles. Move your feet, not your mouth.
Speaker 11 We'll be back after a brief word from our sponsors.

Speaker 13 I'm sorry about what happened before at the tunnels. I didn't know that that thing was inside.
Speaker 15 Yeah, whatever. Not the time.
Speaker 15 Thanks, man.
Speaker 16 Take care of yourself, Alvin.
Speaker 5 Go on. Go on.
Speaker 15 You don't have to be that nice to her.
Speaker 15 Where the hell are they?
Speaker 13
Oh no. Exercising.
I'm telling you, they're just extra.
Speaker 5 Look!
Speaker 7 What did I say?
Speaker 5 Here they are. Hey, how the hell did you get out? Relax.
Speaker 12
Lennon guy let us out for exercise. A little cooped up in here.
Not like we were going anywhere.
Speaker 7 That's what I said.
Speaker 5 You cannot leave.
Speaker 19 Then they won't.
Speaker 19 Are those the orders?
Speaker 5 But fuck this up. Easy way to get disqualified.
Speaker 5 But you're lucky.
Speaker 20 I'd rather see what happens to you in there.
Speaker 5 This is gonna be an interesting season.
Speaker 5 Here.
Speaker 5 Your orders.
Speaker 17 Thank you for covering for us.
Speaker 13 Did you get what we need?
Speaker 14 All of it, and then some. Look at this.
Speaker 13 A printout. Pee-pee pants came in handy.
Speaker 14 He actually did.
Speaker 14 Check it out.
Speaker 11 Shouldn't we open these?
Speaker 15 I mean, each one has our name on it.
Speaker 12 That will tell you what team you're on, and where you're going, and what you will get to take with you.
Speaker 13 Here, grab your home.
Speaker 15 Do what you want with it.
Speaker 17 I gotta know. I can't wait.
Speaker 5 Arena, Water World. Partner, dot?
Speaker 17 Weapons, pre-chosen long and short range.
Speaker 5 What the hell?
Speaker 17 That's it?
Speaker 5 Water?
Speaker 3 Really?
Speaker 14 Do you remember what Alvin said about that place?
Speaker 13
Remember, Water World is the arena that's half water, half land. It's got a large island in the middle.
Looks like a dragon head.
Speaker 13 And these are what you'll encounter in there.
Speaker 13 Gross.
Speaker 5 Where are their feet?
Speaker 13 Those sea dogs, they don't use their feet anymore.
Speaker 5 Merged at the ankles.
Speaker 13 Kind of did the whale-mammal thing and returned to the sea where they found more food.
Speaker 15 They look like funky mermaids.
Speaker 13 Makes you wonder about the old sea stories.
Speaker 13 And then you got got the river runners on the land.
Speaker 13
Still got legs, but they're webbed and took the whole beaver approach. All the water makes their skin thin.
Both these are stalkers. Can't put up a fight one-on-one so long as you stay on land.
Speaker 16 What about in the water?
Speaker 13 Don't go in the water.
Speaker 3 I'm not a strong swimmer.
Speaker 19 Only two types of infected.
Speaker 5 Just stay on land, bro.
Speaker 17 Who in the hell is Dot?
Speaker 13 You haven't seen her. She's here.
Speaker 16 Wait, like here the whole time?
Speaker 5 Yeah, apparently.
Speaker 13 She used the restroom after you left. Then she hid somewhere.
Speaker 17 She hid?
Speaker 2 Dot!
Speaker 5 Dot!
Speaker 17 I need to at least meet you!
Speaker 17 Please?
Speaker 17 I'm not a bad guy, I promise.
Speaker 15 Yeah. Compared to who?
Speaker 17 I don't know, fucking Vincent?
Speaker 5 Probably right.
Speaker 5 Whoa!
Speaker 14 You were in the cabinet this whole time? I didn't even hear you next to me.
Speaker 5 I want Dot.
Speaker 17 No one would even see us till after the exit.
Speaker 18 Someone's cocky.
Speaker 5 Dot.
Speaker 5 Hello.
Speaker 17 I'm Alex, and we'll be in there together.
Speaker 5 Dot.
Speaker 17 Do you know how to fight?
Speaker 5 Dot.
Speaker 17 Wait, what?
Speaker 12 I think she's broken.
Speaker 13 I think she might have been on the other side of the wall a bit too long.
Speaker 17 And she's my partner. I have to depend on and communicate with.
Speaker 5 Dot.
Speaker 5 Oh, boy. Well, good luck with that.
Speaker 13 All right, better get this over with.
Speaker 5
Not me. Not me.
Not me.
Speaker 5 No.
Speaker 11 It's you.
Speaker 5 Me?
Speaker 20 No. Thank God.
Speaker 13 Nick and Vincent, Winter Wonderland.
Speaker 17 That's the uh. No shit.
Speaker 5 Damn.
Speaker 13 What the hell is in there?
Speaker 14 Snow and trees.
Speaker 15 What did uh, what did Al say about that place again?
Speaker 13 These next ones come from our Canadian brothers to the north.
Speaker 15 That looks like a full-blown yeti.
Speaker 17 No shit. They do exist.
Speaker 13 They adapted to grow lots of fur for the cold, and within a few generations,
Speaker 13 pure white.
Speaker 5 Big too?
Speaker 17 I'd say lengthy.
Speaker 13 They're mostly fur.
Speaker 13 There's a lot of hair in the way. Sometimes adaptations can be too strong.
Speaker 5 Great.
Speaker 15 Well, what else is there in Winter Wonderland?
Speaker 13 So, one other species,
Speaker 13 ice crawlers.
Speaker 18 Sounds super.
Speaker 17 Crawl around on ice skates.
Speaker 5 No.
Speaker 13 These freeze icicles over their protruding bone growths, essentially making razor-sharp ice armor.
Speaker 5 Oh, Jesus.
Speaker 13 And they throw them.
Speaker 13 You're joking, right?
Speaker 17 That's all a joke.
Speaker 15 Right there on the map. Can't make this up.
Speaker 15 Start looking it over.
Speaker 5 Oh, I am.
Speaker 13 I am.
Speaker 15 What was the weapon again?
Speaker 13 Weapon group red?
Speaker 15 What's that mean?
Speaker 12 They'll have a selection for you to choose from on the way in.
Speaker 13 Fun.
Speaker 5 So we don't know.
Speaker 12 Who's next?
Speaker 16 It's me in the mountain, right?
Speaker 14 Your least favorite.
Speaker 16 Hate climbing and rocks with twisted ankles.
Speaker 5 Would you open mine?
Speaker 5 Sure.
Speaker 5 The Heartland.
Speaker 14 Lisa and Vera.
Speaker 14 Weapon of choice from any cabinet or one you personally own.
Speaker 5 No shit.
Speaker 12 That's not common.
Speaker 16 But all the cabinets, they're what?
Speaker 19 Full of weapons? Yeah.
Speaker 15 Well, that'll make things easier.
Speaker 14 Wonder if one of the options would be a sword.
Speaker 15 Like your katana.
Speaker 5 Why not?
Speaker 14 Never run out of ammo.
Speaker 16 But what was the Heartland? What did Alvin say it was?
Speaker 12 You remember the one with the green eye and the horns? No shit.
Speaker 5 No.
Speaker 12 That's where they put him and several others from his tribe.
Speaker 8 That's not fair.
Speaker 5 And there's more.
Speaker 13 The Heartland has two main species. What they call the Bull Tribe.
Speaker 13 Giants like the ones you saw outside. Slow and cumbersome, but strong as hell.
Speaker 2 They are fairly advanced.
Speaker 14 My least favorite.
Speaker 13 Well, then you haven't met these.
Speaker 13 Skinwalkers.
Speaker 13 Infected who kill animals and then use their skins to sneak up on other prey.
Speaker 13 And humans.
Speaker 13 They wear disguises.
Speaker 5 For real?
Speaker 12 They use tools, too?
Speaker 13
The bull tribe has spears and simple clothing. They are the most advanced we've ever seen.
There was a third tribe of scorpions in there.
Speaker 13 But the others seem to have stomped them all out.
Speaker 15 Smart brutes and stalkers?
Speaker 15 Yeah, no thank you on that one.
Speaker 16 I feel like we're all getting the ones we don't want. Is this rigged?
Speaker 16 That.
Speaker 13 If you consider the hand of fate, maybe.
Speaker 5 But I think we can do this.
Speaker 13 We only need to find the way out. Don't have to go up against the infected.
Speaker 5 Well,
Speaker 15 at least Vincent's optimistic.
Speaker 11 You're that, Nick.
Speaker 17 You don't need to kill them. You just have to find the way out.
Speaker 5 Oh, no. I heard that.
Speaker 11 But thank you, Alex.
Speaker 16 That's all the orders?
Speaker 12 You're lucky most of you know your partner and can trust them. Not always the case.
Speaker 11 Yeah, speak for yourself.
Speaker 11 Dot.
Speaker 8 Teams of two?
Speaker 14 We all go in at the same time.
Speaker 5 Oh, hold on.
Speaker 12 I got an envelope, too.
Speaker 15 What does it say?
Speaker 12
2 p.m. tomorrow.
Everyone goes in one group after the other.
Speaker 20 Well, that's it then.
Speaker 14 Everyone knows where we're going.
Speaker 17 I guess I can start getting ready.
Speaker 5 How long?
Speaker 15 We have
Speaker 15 23 hours. Make them count.
Speaker 15 Alvin?
Speaker 5 Yeah?
Speaker 14 What's in this one?
Speaker 14 It's unmarked on the cell. I can't see in.
Speaker 5 That one.
Speaker 13 I'm not sure. I think it's been here a while.
Speaker 5 Will?
Speaker 5 That one?
Speaker 20 That one we leave in there.
Speaker 19 It doesn't go into the the arenas. Bit of an old one.
Speaker 19 He doesn't play well with others.
Speaker 11 To be continued in the next chapter of We're Alive, Descendants.
Speaker 11 And now a word from our sponsors.
Speaker 1 Coach, the energy out there felt different. What changed for the team today?
Speaker 2 It was the new game day scratches from the California Lottery.
Speaker 3 Play is everything. Those games sent the team's energy through the roof.
