Coming Soon...The Dream

2m

We’ve all got that friend or cousin who steadily hawks some overpriced miracle drink, leggings, or shampoo on social media. They aren’t just trying to sell you something, but would like to offer you the opportunity of a lifetime to achieve riches while working from home on your own terms. You’ve probably been too afraid, or too loving, or too reasonable to confront them. Not us. This season on The Dream we go inside the world of multi-level marketing to expose this pyramid-shaped business model for what it is. Join us on this bizarre journey filled with snake oil salesmen, shifty millionaires, struggling single moms, and a few sweet grandmas.

When somebody looks you in the face, those of you who are first-time networkers or second-time or third-timers, and when we talk to you about being able to earn a six-figure income in a certain period of time,

oh, that must be one of those schemes.

He's talking about getting rich quick.

I sure hope it is.

You ever tried getting rich slow?

Think about your Facebook feed or your Instagram.

Which of your cousins or high school classmates has an incredible business opportunity for you?

Work from home, set your own hours, get out of debt, say goodbye to your boss forever.

What you'll be selling, that doesn't matter.

Leggings, essential oils, diet shakes, it's all the same.

No, what's important is your ability to network.

Financial freedom is just one click away.

What do you have to lose?

A lot, actually.

How do you know whether you could ever be a leader of an organization of hundreds of people until you try and recruit one?

If you got a normal intelligence and you're willing to put in 18 hours a day and work seven days a week, you can be a millionaire.

Hello vampire!

You broke the sales record!

For me, without 31, we would not be, we'd still be living in a trailer park.

I always told myself that I could do better with my money than some other people could.

I feel like if there's anyone in this office who can get out there and make this work, it's me.

Maybe we're going to get it and be blown away and wonder why this is like the world's best kept secret.

Sounds crazy when we hear it in those terms, right?

It's amazing, and it's not too good to be true.

Except it is too good to be true.

I'm Jane Marie, and on season one of The Dream, premiering this fall, we expose the world of multi-level marketing for what it is, a pyramid-shaped exploitation of the American dream.

Pyramid schemes are against the law, okay?

But this is not one of them.

In this area, I I was encountering women that didn't even have bank accounts, that had their credit cards shut off.

People that failed, they were told you failed because you just didn't work hard enough.

Do they know that what they're setting up is taking advantage of people?

No authority in the country right now will openly acknowledge this for what it is.

It is a system that is set up to fail.

The Dream from Stitcher and Little Everywhere comes out September 24th.
