The Girlfriends: Our Lost Sister... Coming Soon
In Season 1, The Girlfriends told the story of how a group of incredible women came together to bring down one bad ex-boyfriend and seek justice for the murder of Gail Katz.
But there’s one part of that story that’s still a mystery.
During the investigation into Gail’s case, a torso washed up on Staten Island and was misidentified as Gail. Nobody knows her name or what happened to her after she was ruled out from the case.
In Season 2, the amateur ladies detective club are back with a new mission: to uncover the identity of this woman and finally find Our Lost Sister.
The Girlfriends: Our Lost Sister is produced by Novel for iHeartPodcasts.

Speaker 2 What if you could boost your Wi-Fi to one of your devices when you need it most? Because Xfinity Wi-Fi can. Like when you need to upload 200 photos of your cat in a Santa hat to post online.
Speaker 3 We've all been there. And what if your Wi-Fi could proactively fix issues before they even happen?
Speaker 2 Xfinity Wi-Fi does that too. It's like having a little holiday helper.
Speaker 3 And what if your Wi-Fi had parental instincts built right in? So your kids are always protected online.
Speaker 2 It's Wi-Fi that's not just smart, it's brilliant. And during the holidays, that's a gift we all could use.
Speaker 3 Xfinity, imagine that.
Speaker 5 Host compensated for their time.
Speaker 5 I know many strong women who are breast cancer patients, so as you might imagine, it's a topic especially near and dear to my heart.
Speaker 5 Watching them suffer through the challenges of their experiences made me realize I wanted to help other women not only become more comfortable talking about breast health, but also help them learn about breast cancer treatments that may be available to them.
Speaker 5 That's why I want to tell you about Kiscali. Kiscali ribocyclib 200 milligram tablets are taken with an aromatase inhibitor.
Speaker 5 It's for adults with HR positive, PER2, negative stage 2 or 3 early breast cancer with a high risk of recurrence, and it can help reduce the risk of cancer coming back.
Speaker 5 In a clinical study at three years, 91% of people taking Kiscali plus an aromatase inhibitor were cancer-free versus 88% 88% taking an aromatase inhibitor alone. Individual results may vary.
Speaker 5 Kiscali may cause serious skin reactions, liver problems, and low white blood cell counts that may result in serious infections. Life-threatening lung problems and abnormal heartbeats can occur.
Speaker 5 Your doctor should test your heart and blood before enduring treatment. Tell your doctor if you have new or worsening cough, chest pain, or dizziness.
Speaker 5 Before taking Kiscali, tell your doctor all your medical conditions, medicines you take, and if you're breastfeeding, pregnant, or planning to be, as it can harm an unborn baby.
Speaker 5
Common side effects include nausea, headache, and tiredness. Defense is important on and off the ice, and Kiskali is all about doing more to help protect your tomorrow.
So find out how you can too.
Speaker 5 Visit Kiskali.com. That's K-I-S-Q-A-L-I dot com to learn more and ask your doctor if Kiskali is right for you.

Speaker 4
Hey, girlfriends. Just a heads up.
In this episode, you'll hear themes of violence, murder, and of course, me swearing at times. So, not much has changed, has it?
Speaker 5 Hi, Carol.
Speaker 4 Anna, why are you calling me on a random Wednesday morning? What's going on? Okay, look, don't shoot me, but I think I want you to investigate another cold case.
Speaker 4 What?
Speaker 4 We must have a bad connection. I better hang up.
Speaker 4 You know that moment when someone comes into your life and you know it's never going to be the same again?
Speaker 4 The first time that happened to me was when I met a guy named Bob, who I thought was a total catch, but he turned out to be a fucking asshole who murdered his first wife, Gail Katz.
Speaker 4 Listen to the first series of The Girlfriends if you want to hear that story.
Speaker 4 The second time someone turned my life upside down was when this adorable British woman randomly called me.
Speaker 4 She asked me to make a podcast about how myself and a group of incredible women investigated what happened to Gail. And well, I just couldn't say no to her.
Speaker 4 So my producer, Anna, became like one of the family, my new surrogate daughter.
Speaker 4 And within a few months of meeting, she flew out to stay with me in Las Vegas, where I fed her constantly, like the good Jewish mother I am.
Speaker 4
I even just drank kombucha. Oh my gosh, of course I drank kombucha.
Look at me.
Speaker 4 I know my guest.
Speaker 4 I took Anna to meet my mom, who loved her. Did people tell you how beautiful you are?
Speaker 4 Huh?
Speaker 4 Your hair, your face, your, I mean, your skin.
Speaker 4 Show off.
Speaker 4
And she met my friends. I have no children.
You can be my daughter. You can be my daughter.
I'm adopting you.
Speaker 4
All right. Together, we turned my tragic dating history into the number one podcast in six countries.
No big deal.
Speaker 4
Turns out Anna's not finished with me yet. There's one mystery from the first series that we never managed to solve.
Our lost sister.
Speaker 4 The woman whose torso washed up on Staten Island and was buried in Gail's grave for nearly a decade. That is, until it was discovered that her body did not belong to Gail Katz.
Speaker 4 What's her name? And more importantly, what's her story?
Speaker 4 People want answers. I've received so many emails, comments, and calls.
Speaker 9 What's this about the torso?
Speaker 4 This is a loose end for this poor woman who never was identified.
Speaker 9 Whose torso is it? Who is this victim? And what's being done to try to identify her and seek justice?
Speaker 4
But I have to admit, I'm worried. I mean, we spent a year working night and day trying to identify her already.
We never got an answer. And what if we still can't? But what if we don't try?
Speaker 4
I feel like if we don't do this, nobody's going to try. We're the only ones left and if anyone can do it, we can.
The girlfriends.
Speaker 4 Got
Speaker 4 you.
Speaker 4
And that's how she gets me. She always lures me back in.
But I'm right, you know, I'm really right. This is going to be really hard.
But luckily, it's not just me and Anna.
Speaker 4 We have the whole girlfriend's gang to help us solve this case. There's Gail's sister, Elaine.
Speaker 9 You killed my sister. And I know you think you got away with it, but I will always hound you and haunt you.
Speaker 4 And there's my dear friend, Mindy. I hope that
Speaker 4
we can make something positive out of this. And between us, me, Mindy, Elaine, Anna, we don't just want to solve a case.
We want to make a difference. We want to show away every woman's story matters.
Speaker 4
But if we're going to do this, we need your help too. So listen up, get your pen and paper out.
This is all we know so far about the woman we're trying to identify.
Speaker 4 On May 21st, 1989, her torso washed up in New York, just north of the Verrazano Bridge on Staten Island.
Speaker 4 The autopsy report said she'd been in the water for two to three months, and DNA testing was limited back then. So the medical examiner compared some x-rays that showed similarities between the two.
Speaker 9 That sufficiently allowed them to change Jane Doe torso on the death certificate to Gail Katz Birambaum.
Speaker 4 She was then buried in the Katz family plot in Queens.
Speaker 3 And finally, I felt that I found my sister and she was safe.
Speaker 4 But that's not the end of the story.
Speaker 4 In the summer of 1998, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office exhumed the body from Gail's grave for DNA testing.
Speaker 9 And they said to me, the torso is not Gail.
Speaker 9 And after a string of curses, I said to them, you have ripped the shred of closure. that I have
Speaker 9 away from me.
Speaker 4
Then the torso seemingly vanishes. No one from Gail's case knows what happened to her.
So if the torso is not Gail Katz Bierenbaum, then who is she? And where did she go?
Speaker 4 Told you it wasn't going to be easy. And that's why, dear girlfriends, we need your help because we know that we are stronger together.
Speaker 4 Last series, by just passing the podcast between each other, you helped over 1,500 people connect with our charity Partner Know More and get potentially life-saving advice regarding intimate partner violence.
Speaker 4 So let's do it again. Let's work together.
