Introducing: The Girlfriends

Speaker 1 I'm Carol Fisher, and I'm hosting a podcast called The Girlfriends, a show about a group of women who all have one thing in common.

Speaker 1 All of us have this scarlet letter of, I dated a murderer.

Speaker 1 Yeah, back in the 1990s in Las Vegas, a few of us dated the same guy, Bob.

Speaker 1 He was amazing on paper, a doctor, a pilot. He spoke several languages.
He did medical missionary work and he was Jewish and it was just how much better could it get? Ha ha ha.

Speaker 1 After we took our turns dating Bob, we did what girlfriends do. We debriefed.
But it quickly became apparent that I knew something my friends did not.

Speaker 1 She said, oh, you obviously don't know about the skeletons in his closet. And I go, what skeletons in the closet? Bob had a big secret.

Speaker 1 His first wife, Gail, apparently walked out of their apartment in 1985 and was never seen again.

Speaker 1 It's like there was just something always off.

Speaker 1 Before too long, we had formed a club dedicated to bitching about Bob, Bob, eating noodles, and figuring out what happened to Gail.

Speaker 1 It was all just gossip until the prosecutors came knocking and our little club became part of a multi-state investigation.

Speaker 1 There's no body, no forensics, no admissions, an extremely difficult circumstantial case based in large part on things that the defendant had said. to his girlfriends.

Speaker 1 Nearly 30 years later, I'm going back to talk to all those girlfriends to find out everything Bob did and how he got away with it.

Speaker 1 He dated the entire Jewish professional community. Run.

Speaker 1 Run, girlfriend, run.

Speaker 1 She told me that he was mad and he tried to drown the cat. I thought to myself, I'm lucky to be alive.
And then I kept thinking, who else did he hurt?

Speaker 1 I would call him and I would say, I know you killed my sister. I will always hound you and haunt you.
