Day 190: Returning to the Visitation

13m

We continue practicing meditation with our mental archive, returning to Mary as the Ark of the Covenant, understanding the Visitation as our invitation to song, and Mary’s charity and love towards us. With Fr. Mark-Mary, we pray through the “four R’s,” asking God to reveal his grace to us through the mystery. Today’s focus is the mystery of the Visitation and we will be praying one decade of the Rosary.

Speaker 3 Today we will be meditating upon and praying with the second joyful mystery, the visitation.

Speaker 10 and as we began yesterday and will continue today i'm gonna begin the episode by reviewing some of what we've covered to this point and then we will briefly be reminded of the four r's and then go into prayer the four r's again are what truth is being revealed about god that you're being invited to receive how can you respond what grace would you like to request for the response and then we rejoice

Speaker 13 so a couple of the major themes that have stood out to me for the visitation are, first of all, looking at Mary as the new Ark of the Covenant.

Speaker 20 If you remember, in Exodus chapter 40, God comes to dwell with his people in the form of a cloud upon the tent of meeting and the ark.

Speaker 20 The ark was this place of God's dwelling, of God's glory, the place where God met with his people.

Speaker 12 And it's where he leads his people

Speaker 14 and he brings them to victory.

Speaker 3 And in the Annunciation,

Speaker 22 we saw Mary being overshadowed by the Holy Spirit.

Speaker 3 That as the incarnation takes place in the womb of Mary, now Mary is this new ark, this new meeting place between God and his people.

Speaker 14 But specifically for the visitation, we looked at Luke chapter 1, verses 39, 56, and we saw all those parallels between the visitation and 2 Samuel 6, where David is leading the ark back to Jerusalem.

Speaker 12 Right?

Speaker 23 And there's these parallels that make it obvious that Luke is making this connection, that Mary arose and went to the hill country.

Speaker 23 Also in 2 Samuel it says, David arose and went with all the people to bring up from there the ark of God.

Speaker 21 David expresses his unworthiness before the ark.

Speaker 12 And Elizabeth says, why is it granted me that the mother of my Lord should come to me?

Speaker 9 David dances before the ark, like John the Baptist leaps for joy.

Speaker 23 And

Speaker 21 so, this is that first theme that's really important: of the Ark of the Covenant and the new Ark, as Mary is overshadowed.

Speaker 15 And that Mary herself, as Jesus lives in her womb, is this place of meeting, this place where God will lead his people to victory.

Speaker 3 And also in our visitation, we looked at, if you remember, how for some situations and some occasions, like prose is not enough.

Speaker 9 Poetry is needed and just speaking is not enough, but song is needed.

Speaker 13 And we reflected on this pattern in the visitation that begins with like a conversation.

Speaker 17 But it leads to Mary's Magnificat, this poetic song of praise.

Speaker 17 And we see in the Magnificat this great song of Christian praise and poetry.

Speaker 3 And that before the marvels of God, the mysteries of of our salvation, we need more than just narrative.

Speaker 4 We need more than just prose.

Speaker 25 We need poetry, and we need song to fully express our hearts and our joy.

Speaker 12 If you remember back to the story about my brother who saw the dolphins, like, it's a dolphin, it's a dolphin, like Elizabeth, blessed are you among women.

Speaker 8 And then we see Mary like overcome with joy into this song.

Speaker 9 And in the visitation, is our own invitation to song,

Speaker 9 to song before the mystery of our salvation, before the presence of the Messiah,

Speaker 10 and before the beauty and the goodness of the Blessed Mother.

Speaker 15 And one last bit of reflection for review today is:

Speaker 3 if you remember, we looked at the writing from St.

Speaker 14 Alphonsus Liguori on the visitation of the Blessed Virgin,

Speaker 14 and that he sees in the visitation Mary fulfilling her office as mother.

Speaker 12 And what is her office?

Speaker 12 Her office is that of exercising charity.

Speaker 10 And that Mary is a mother.

Speaker 25 And that her office, her role, her call, the movements of her heart are towards charity.

Speaker 22 And we saw how Mary, out of charity, right, comes to Elizabeth to be with her.

Speaker 14 Because this is who she is, and this is what she does as mother.

Speaker 17 She comes to us and she wants to be with us and she wants to console us.

Speaker 15 And there's that beautiful prayer, one of Mother Teresa's favorite prayers.

Speaker 9 Mary be a mother to me now. Mary be a mother to me now.

Speaker 3 And so today, we see Mary as the new ark.

Speaker 9 We see this invitation to joy and song before the Blessed Mother.

Speaker 17 And also, we have this encouragement, this source of confidence that Mary is a mother who loves to mother us.

Speaker 9 And that in our times of need, we can call to her, like Saint Mother Teresa, Mary, be a mother to me now.

Speaker 24 So now we'll just take a little moment of

Speaker 18 stillness.

Speaker 5 We'll linger here a little bit

Speaker 9 before going into these four hours, a little bit of a guide for prayer.

Speaker 10 From your own prayer, from our review today.

Speaker 21 What is the grace,

Speaker 8 the truth being revealed

Speaker 21 that you are invited to receive?

Speaker 9 How can you respond?

Speaker 11 And particularly aimed at that response: What is the grace that you need?

Speaker 21 What is the grace that you would like to request?

Speaker 13 And then rejoice.

Speaker 13 Give thanks to the Lord for this time of prayer,

Speaker 6 the grace that has been given,

Speaker 23 and the life of God that has been shared.

Speaker 13 And now together with Mary, let us pray. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Speaker 5 Amen.

Speaker 27 Our Father,

Speaker 7 who art in heaven,

Speaker 23 hallowed be thy name.

Speaker 24 Thy kingdom come,

Speaker 18 thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Speaker 23 Give us this this day our daily bread,

Speaker 9 and forgive us our trespasses,

Speaker 16 as we forgive those who trespass against us.

Speaker 18 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
