Day 359: The Luminous Mysteries
We reflect on the moments in Jesus’ ministry that reveal his identity and invite our response of faith as we pray the Luminous mysteries. We revisit several of our Saint reflections as Fr. Mark-Mary highlights St. Ambrose’s teaching on the Father’s voice proclaiming Jesus as the beloved Son, and St. Alphonsus Liguori’s reflection on Mary’s unique intercessory role. As we continue through the mysteries, Fr. Mark-Mary reflects on James Tissot’s depiction of the grateful leper as a symbol of the Proclamation of the Kingdom, the disciples’ mountaintop experience in the Transfiguration, and Jesus washing the disciples’ feet at the Last Supper. Today's focus is the Luminous Mysteries, and we’ll be praying the full Rosary.

Speaker 16 Today we will be praying the luminous mysteries.
Speaker 17 Let us begin in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 8 I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit.
Speaker 20 Born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to hell.
Speaker 16 On the third day, he rose again from the dead.
Speaker 25 He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty.
Speaker 23 From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
Speaker 23 I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 29 For our Holy Father's health and intentions, our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Speaker 32 Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Speaker 37 Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Speaker 18 Amen.

Speaker 49 Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 15 The first luminous mystery is the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan.
Speaker 19 I really appreciated the reading we took from St.
Speaker 3 Ambrose
Speaker 50 about the baptism.
Speaker 27 And he says,
Speaker 26 Is there any room left for doubt
Speaker 26 when the Father clearly calls from heaven and says, This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased?
Speaker 28 It's such a beautiful statement of faith and also truth.
Speaker 48 We know who Jesus is by the very authority of God.
Speaker 14 God Himself has revealed Himself,
Speaker 27 And our response is one of theological faith, of assure faith, of a confident faith,
Speaker 22 of a faith that takes hold of and transforms our whole lives.
Speaker 48 As we pray this decade, let us hear the Father speak again.
Speaker 26 This is my beloved Son.
Speaker 14 Let us recognize the authority of this voice, God himself.
Speaker 51 Let's ask for the grace of faith
Speaker 11 that touches all of our heart, all of our life, our wills, our intellects.
Speaker 29 Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Speaker 32 Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Speaker 37 Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Speaker 42 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, amen.
Speaker 22 Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Speaker 45 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Speaker 42 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 49 Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Speaker 30 Amen.
Speaker 62 O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy.
Speaker 15 The second luminous mystery is the wedding feast at Cana.
Speaker 22 Saint Alphonsus Liguori wrote, From eternity,
Speaker 51 God has established by another general decree
Speaker 21 that nothing the divine mother could ask should be denied her.
Speaker 26 I love this language, and I love a couple things about it.
Speaker 22 One of all, like, it makes clear where Mary's role, authority, like power come from, from God, right? Like, this is not like existentially, absolutely necessary.
Speaker 16 It doesn't necessarily flow from her nature.
Speaker 41 She remains a creature.
Speaker 29 But through
Speaker 23 God's perfect plan, here put in the words of a general decree, Mary has this power, this intercession.
Speaker 5 And so, I just love this for some of the nuance it has, but also like kind of the power and the confidence that it bestows upon you and I, the reader of this, again, from eternity, it's really powerful.
Speaker 63 This is a work of God has established by another general decree that nothing the divine mother, like not that she is divine, but she is mother of God, of Jesus, could ask should be denied her.
Speaker 27 So let's go ahead and bring to her whatever our needs and her intentions are with total and complete confidence.
Speaker 29 Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Speaker 32 Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Speaker 35 Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Speaker 17 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 22 Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Speaker 28 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Speaker 46 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 22 Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Speaker 45 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.
Speaker 42 Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 22 Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee.
Speaker 28 Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.
Speaker 42 Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us sinners.
Speaker 47 Now and at the hour of our death.
Speaker 18 Amen
Speaker 22 Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Speaker 45 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Speaker 42 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, amen.
Speaker 22 Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Speaker 38 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Speaker 42 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 22 Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Speaker 45 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, womb, Jesus.
Speaker 30 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners.
Speaker 43 Now and at the hour of our death, amen.
Speaker 22 Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Speaker 14 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Speaker 42 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 15 The third luminous mystery is the proclamation of the kingdom and the call to conversion.
Speaker 63 We're going to return to James Tissot's painting, Healing of the Lepers at at Capernaum, right, where there's the one leper kneeling with his hands raised in gratitude and worship and surrender.
Speaker 63 The one leper who, remember, there was the 10 lepers healed, but one returned giving thanks.
Speaker 15 And again, a reminder of why this is here is that Jesus' proclamation of the kingdom, he proclaims the kingdom both in word and deed. His teaching is the proclamation of the kingdom.
Speaker 15 His giving the new law is the proclamation of the kingdom. His parables are part of the proclamation of the kingdom.
Speaker 16 And his works, including his miracles and his healings.
Speaker 22 Here we see the healer healing, right?
Speaker 50 And so this is part of the work of God.
Speaker 23 And our invitation is to return, to have this conversion, this return to Jesus, where we come to him, like our Lord, to reorient our lives, our hearts,
Speaker 49 like everything back to him.
Speaker 61 So as we pray today, let's make another step in turning and reorienting our whole lives to Jesus.
Speaker 21 Particularly here, we'll focus on giving thanks.
Speaker 45 So let's go ahead and enter this time of praise and of gratitude and of worship of Jesus for all of the blessings, all of the good He has done in our world in saving us, and all the ways that He has blessed us.
Speaker 29 Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Speaker 32 Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Speaker 37 Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 22 Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Speaker 56 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Speaker 42 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 22 Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Speaker 14 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Speaker 42 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us, sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 22 Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Speaker 28 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Speaker 42 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 22 Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Speaker 59 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Speaker 42 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 22 Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Speaker 38 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Speaker 42 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 22 Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Speaker 28 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Speaker 4 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
Speaker 47 now and at the hour of our death.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 22 Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Speaker 56 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Speaker 42 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 22 Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Speaker 28 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Speaker 57 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
Speaker 47 now and at the hour of our death.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 22 Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Speaker 14 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Speaker 42 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
Speaker 25 Amen.
Speaker 49 Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 62 O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy.
Speaker 15 The fourth luminous mystery is the Transfiguration.
Speaker 15 In the transfiguration, we see Peter, James, and John, right, having the mountaintop experience par excellence.
Speaker 26 They're on the mountain, and the Lord is transfigured before them.
Speaker 63 And what is Peter's response?
Speaker 14 Like, he wants to build a tent. He wants to stay there.
Speaker 52 But what happens?
Speaker 24 Jesus takes them down the mountain, right?
Speaker 26 And you'll notice this in the life of the disciples is it wasn't one big mountaintop experience.
Speaker 26 The mountaintop experience, and by this I mean like where you're kind of away and it's really, really consoling and encouraging.
Speaker 6 And there's all this sort of like joy and positivity and it feels really, really good, right?
Speaker 5 This is the language of mountaintop experience.
Speaker 45 It's the anomaly in the life of the disciples, not the ordinary.
Speaker 3 And that's something I think just to notice and kind of make a movement towards acceptance in our lives, certainly in our, in our relationship with Jesus.
Speaker 63 Many of us have gone retreats or had really beautiful, profound moments with the Lord in prayer, on pilgrimage, etc.
Speaker 33 And we can kind of get frustrated when those aren't part of our ordinary relationship.
Speaker 6 But I think it is important to see the experience of Peter and James and John, right?
Speaker 5 It's not one big transfiguration.
Speaker 10 And I think this is true, right, for vocations, for marriage.
Speaker 26 There's the honeymoon phase, but
Speaker 56 most of life is in the honeymoon and having kids.
Speaker 35 There's some really, really peak moments, but also there's some values, there's some struggle, there's some difficulty wrestling with our vocations, etc.
Speaker 34 But let us take heart.
Speaker 23 Have confidence in the good shepherd who is with you
Speaker 3 and that he is at work in these valleys.
Speaker 13 But the valley is transitory.
Speaker 36 He's leading you towards green pastures and still waters.
Speaker 29 Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Speaker 32 Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Speaker 42 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 22 Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Speaker 45 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Speaker 42 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 22 Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Speaker 59 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Speaker 57 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners.
Speaker 47 Now and at the hour of our death.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 22 Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Speaker 45 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Speaker 42 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 22 Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Speaker 45 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Speaker 42 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, amen.
Speaker 22 Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Speaker 64 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Speaker 42 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, amen.
Speaker 22 Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Speaker 28 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Speaker 22 Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Speaker 59 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Speaker 46 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 49 Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 62 O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy.
Speaker 15 The fifth luminous mystery is the institution of the Eucharist.
Speaker 3 Jesus himself links the washing of the feet to the institution of the Eucharist.
Speaker 27 It's in the same room in close proximity.
Speaker 49 Again, it's not by accident.
Speaker 8 And I think it's beautiful, right? Like Jesus comes and he's going to wash Peter's feet.
Speaker 51 Peter resists.
Speaker 28 Jesus basically says, like, it's not optional.
Speaker 52 And then Peter says, okay, well, then don't even just wash my feet like wash all of me I wanted to receive all of it I want all that you have to offer
Speaker 28 and this is a really beautiful profound
Speaker 24 worthy of imitation disposition for ourselves to have as we come to Jesus who desires
Speaker 6 in a sense to like serve us to wash us to renew us to make us clean and to give himself like totally to us
Speaker 39 and as we receive the most holy Eucharist, we take this posture of receptivity and of humility.
Speaker 24 And like Peter, we say, Jesus, I want all of you.
Speaker 52 I want all of you. I want you to come into, to touch, to heal, to wash all of me, all of my life, all of my heart.
Speaker 20 And so we come in adoration and worship of Jesus, the most Holy Eucharist.
Speaker 6 We prepare ourselves in prayer now for the next time we receive Holy Communion by saying, Jesus, like more of you, more of you.
Speaker 8 I give to you all of me,
Speaker 30 and I want all of you.
Speaker 29 Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Speaker 31 Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Speaker 14 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Speaker 36 Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope.
Speaker 5 To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve.
Speaker 20 To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Speaker 20 Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Speaker 62 O Clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary, pray for us, most holy mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Speaker 35 Let us pray.
Speaker 20 O God, whose only begotten Son, by his life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life.
Speaker 36 Grant we beseech thee that meditating upon these mysteries of the most holy rosary, the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise through the same Christ our Lord.
Speaker 18 Amen.
Speaker 28 In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Speaker 40 Amen.
Speaker 25 All right, thanks everyone for joining me in praying with me today. I look forward to continuing this journey with you again tomorrow.
