Day 235: The Crowning with Thorns and the Carrying of the Cross
In prayer, we focus on the third Sorrowful Mystery, the Crowning with Thorns, and the fourth Sorrowful Mystery, the Carrying of the Cross. In the mockery of Jesus as King, we behold the profound humility and suffering He freely embraces. On the road to Calvary, we reflect on His encounter with Simon of Cyrene, who shares in the weight of the cross and meets salvation face to face. These mysteries draw us into deeper surrender as we say yes to carrying our own crosses each day in union with Christ. Today’s focus is the mysteries of the Crowning with Thorns and the Carrying of the Cross and we will be praying two decades of the Rosary.

Speaker 1 Today we'll be praying the third and the fourth sorrowful mysteries, the crowning with thorns and the carrying of the cross.
Speaker 10 As we pray with the third sorrowful mystery, the crowning with thorns, we see Jesus, the true king, being mocked,
Speaker 10 being crowned with thorns,
Speaker 2 clothed in purple,
Speaker 2 given a reed,
Speaker 10 but then being spat upon.
Speaker 11 Behold, your king.
Speaker 10 Behold his humility.
Speaker 2 But also behold the royal road of his passion.
Speaker 2 which leads to his ultimate victory in the resurrection.
Speaker 10 As we pray with the fourth sorrowful mystery, Jesus carrying his cross, we see Jesus freely embracing his cross,
Speaker 13 journeying away from Jerusalem to Calvary,
Speaker 10 like an ordinary criminal condemned to death.
Speaker 10 We call to mind those he meets along the road, especially Simon, who's compelled to help carry the cross.
Speaker 10 And in carrying this cross is given the opportunity to encounter his Savior and his salvation and Jesus face to face.
Speaker 10 May this be an encouragement to each of us as we each day
Speaker 10 freely embrace and say yes
Speaker 12 to carrying our own crosses.
Speaker 3 So we'll go ahead and take a moment to become recollected.
Speaker 13 Ask for the grace of the Holy Spirit to animate and guide and make efficacious our prayer.
Speaker 14 And then we'll begin in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
