Day 81: Behold Your King

15m

Although the Roman soldiers mockingly hail Jesus as king, Fr. Mark-Mary explains that in this mystery we see the reality of Jesus’ true kingship and dignity. In our prayer of lectio divina, we meditate on Jesus’ incredible sacrifice for us, and we receive the good news that we worship the true king. Today’s focus is the mystery of the Crowning with Thorns and we will be praying one decade of the Rosary.

Speaker 1 For today's Lexio Divina, we'll be praying the third sorrowful mystery, the crowning with thorns,

Speaker 1 Matthew 27, verses 27-31.

Speaker 15 And our point of emphasis will be, Behold your King.

Speaker 3 Starting with our Alexio.

Speaker 6 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus in the praetorium,

Speaker 6 and they gathered the whole battalion before him,

Speaker 17 And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe upon him.

Speaker 6 And plating a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand.

Speaker 10 And kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying,

Speaker 10 Hail, King of the Jews.

Speaker 20 And they spat upon him,

Speaker 4 and took the reed and struck him on the head.

Speaker 2 And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him and led him away

Speaker 12 to crucify him.

Speaker 10 Let's go ahead and engage the scripture here

Speaker 21 for our meditation or meditatio.

Speaker 3 If you remember, so we have the whole battalion here gathered gathered in the praetorium.

Speaker 15 So that's

Speaker 20 a couple hundred soldiers.

Speaker 2 So it's this big audience, and they've all come

Speaker 23 presumably to mock

Speaker 2 Jesus to see this one who had been spoken of.

Speaker 3 Admittedly, maybe there's some souls there who weren't of the same mindset, but overall, they're there out of curiosity, they're there to mock.

Speaker 10 And before this,

Speaker 19 crowd of soldiers, they strip him and they mock him with a scarlet robe, crown of thorns,

Speaker 3 a reed, and then they mock him, kneeling before him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews.

Speaker 1 And really, the invitation for, I would say, our meditation is

Speaker 11 is just to stay here,

Speaker 13 to sit before the reality.

Speaker 13 Here's Jesus,

Speaker 2 the same Jesus born in Bethlehem,

Speaker 6 the same Jesus went about healing,

Speaker 10 loving, teaching, saving, shepherding.

Speaker 3 And he's come to save each and every one of these soldiers who spit upon him, who mock him.

Speaker 12 All of it is for them.

Speaker 10 Like the for you includes each of them.

Speaker 21 But he came to his own home and his own knew him not.

Speaker 13 Here he is rejected by the Roman soldiers, mocked by the Roman soldiers.

Speaker 13 But this is our king.

Speaker 11 They mockingly say, Hail, King of the Jews, but we with true worship and adoration

Speaker 10 behold the true nature,

Speaker 10 the true love, the true sacrifice, the true dignity and royalty of our king.

Speaker 11 So, in your imagination, as you see him stripped, mocked, crowned with thorns,

Speaker 3 As the rest of the battalion

Speaker 24 kneels and shouts with mockery,

Speaker 16 truly say, Behold, our king, we worship you, our king, we adore you, our king.

Speaker 21 We'll return to our Alexio.

Speaker 1 And kneeling before him,

Speaker 19 they mocked him, saying,

Speaker 9 Hail, King of the Jews.

Speaker 4 Go ahead and take the time to make it with your imagination to see Jesus scourged, bloodied,

Speaker 15 beaten.

Speaker 3 Notice the scarlet robe on his shoulders,

Speaker 18 the reed in his hand,

Speaker 24 and the crown of thorns on his head.

Speaker 3 If you're comfortable, I'd encourage you just to really look into the details of what this crown of thorns looks like, how it rests upon his head,

Speaker 3 the new wounds it inflicts.

Speaker 23 Behold the true nature of sin and what sin does to the soul.

Speaker 10 But also behold your king.

Speaker 14 Again, behold the one who asks for your trust.

Speaker 18 Behold his goodness.

Speaker 9 In him behold your dignity.

Speaker 16 Okay, we'll return with to our Axio.

Speaker 1 And kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying,

Speaker 9 Hail, King of the Jews.

Speaker 9 Hail, King of the Jews.

Speaker 2 Let us transition to our

Speaker 20 Oratio,

Speaker 13 our prayer, following the template, receive, respond, request, rejoice.

Speaker 3 What is the good news here offered?

Speaker 23 For us to receive, what is God revealing about himself?

Speaker 23 Again, behold,

Speaker 25 behold your God.

Speaker 2 Behold your Savior.

Speaker 11 Behold your King.

Speaker 3 Behold the cost of your salvation.

Speaker 3 Which again, I think it's so important to receive in the context of Jesus does this for us freely. No one takes his life from him.

Speaker 24 He lays it down freely.

Speaker 12 Receive the good news of who it is that we worship and who it is that asks for your fidelity and obedience.

Speaker 21 Respond, we begin with adoration and praise.

Speaker 13 Lord, we adore you as King,

Speaker 10 our victorious King, our crucified King.

Speaker 4 Our meek King,

Speaker 10 our Conquering King.

Speaker 8 We adore you, we love you, we bless you.

Speaker 16 We worship you.

Speaker 8 Thank you for your heart revealed here.

Speaker 8 We thank you for your fidelity to the Father.

Speaker 21 That even here, even now,

Speaker 10 you know who you are,

Speaker 4 his beloved Son,

Speaker 4 and you know who He is, his faithful Father.

Speaker 4 And go ahead and pay attention now to like what's the movement in your heart. Is there an invitation for a type of action,

Speaker 2 any form of repentance?

Speaker 4 Lord, in particular, I'm just feeling

Speaker 2 a desire in my own heart.

Speaker 13 I'm going to offer this to you, the listener, to

Speaker 3 Lord, I'd love my heart to be a safe place for you.

Speaker 3 Whereas, as we see here, like you came into the world and you're rejected, you came into the world and you're mocked.

Speaker 19 And how often you continue to be mocked and dismissed in the world.

Speaker 3 Jesus, I want to receive you.

Speaker 19 I want to see you.

Speaker 13 I want to worship you as the true King.

Speaker 4 May you always find a home, Jesus, in my heart.

Speaker 21 I see you, Lord, and I know that you are King.

Speaker 13 That you are good. That you are Savior.
That you are Creator.

Speaker 15 That you are the light.

Speaker 3 I repent of any ways, and I'm going to offer you an invitation of any ways in which we reject him.

Speaker 11 We don't trust him. Lord, we repent.

Speaker 7 Jesus, I just ask,

Speaker 17 I ask for a heart of praise and a heart of worship and a heart of adoration,

Speaker 3 a heart of obedience, a heart of gratitude.

Speaker 3 As I see you as you are, Lord, what type of king you are, what time the cost of your victory.

Speaker 3 May I be rooted in this reality and this truth, Lord, and my heart, may my heart overflow with gratitude.

Speaker 25 Through the power of your spirit, Lord, we're going to ask for grateful hearts.

Speaker 8 And I will end with our rejoicing.

Speaker 8 We thank you, Jesus, for your love for us.

Speaker 23 We thank you for,

Speaker 4 in fact, being our king.

Speaker 8 And we thank you for this time of prayer and the grace that you have given us.

Speaker 8 Thank you, Lord, for this time.

Speaker 3 Okay, we'll conclude now with our time of contemplatzo or contemplation, praying one decade of the rosary.

Speaker 23 With that particular intention, I'm going to ask you to just really keep before you, like Jesus crowned with thorns, and behold your King.

Speaker 21 Now, with our Lady, let us pray in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Speaker 3 Certainly, if the Lord's been speaking to your heart and you'd like to continue to pray, you're very encouraged to do so. Get a little extra time of silence.

Speaker 2 But for us, that will be our time.
