Day 78: Given for You

15m

At the last supper, Jesus tells his disciples that he earnestly desires to eat the Passover with them. Fr. Mark-Mary leads us in lectio divina, meditating on Jesus’ longing, his earnest desire, to give himself to us. We place ourselves in the scene of the Last Supper and hear Jesus tell us, “this is for you.” Today’s focus is the mystery of the Institution of the Eucharist and we will be praying one decade of the Rosary.

Speaker 1 Today we'll be praying with the fifth luminous mystery, the institution of the Eucharist,

Speaker 16 Luke chapter 22, verses 14 through 23.

Speaker 7 And our point of emphasis are going to be these words: Jesus speaks,

Speaker 7 given for you,

Speaker 11 poured out for you.

Speaker 19 We'll be focusing on the for you part of the institution of the Eucharist.

Speaker 5 Begin with our Lexio.

Speaker 19 When the hour came,

Speaker 13 he sat at table, and the apostles with him.

Speaker 12 And he said to them,

Speaker 20 I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.

Speaker 7 For I tell you, I shall not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

Speaker 25 And he took a chalice.

Speaker 26 And when he had given thanks, he said,

Speaker 7 Take this and divide it among yourselves, for I tell you that from now on I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.

Speaker 7 And he took bread,

Speaker 26 and when he had given thanks, he broke it

Speaker 26 and gave it to them, saying,

Speaker 24 This is my body, which is given for you.

Speaker 29 Do this in remembrance of me,

Speaker 9 and likewise the chalice after supper, saying,

Speaker 1 This chalice which is poured out for you,

Speaker 7 is the new covenant in my blood.

Speaker 8 But behold, the hand of him who betrays me is with me on the table.

Speaker 19 For the Son of Man goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed.

Speaker 20 And they began to question one another which of them it was that would do this.

Speaker 8 Now we'll enter into our time of meditatio and engaging the scripture.

Speaker 11 I want to highlight that who is here, right?

Speaker 21 We have the apostles with him.

Speaker 9 This is a particular that the apostles are with him.

Speaker 16 Oftentimes, if you notice in the scriptures, it's more broad, the disciples.

Speaker 27 But here it's specific.

Speaker 1 Those who are with him are the apostles.

Speaker 20 And part of Jesus' heart here is being being revealed.

Speaker 7 Like, what is Jesus experiencing? What is he feeling at the institution of most holy Eucharist at the Last Supper?

Speaker 21 I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.

Speaker 7 There's this burning in the heart of Jesus.

Speaker 2 Like, Jesus burns to give himself to us. Jesus burns to celebrate this Passover.

Speaker 16 Jesus burns for his Father and His Father's will, and he burns for our salvation, knowing that the completion of the Passover, it's going to be his passion, right?

Speaker 11 Him himself being the priest and the Lamb that is sacrificed it's not just like a cold reluctance it's a burning deep desire to give himself for you

Speaker 12 jesus takes the bread gives thanks gives it to them this is my body given for you do this in remembrance of me and this hearkens back to the old testament that the jewish sense of of remembering which is more than just think of but like do again participate in again

Speaker 9 and likewise the chalice this chalice which is poured out for you, is the new covenant in his blood.

Speaker 7 We're going to kind of put this together as we continue with our Alexio here.

Speaker 7 That Jesus is speaking, right?

Speaker 7 The bread of life, what's being revealed here in the fifth luminous mystery, Jesus is the bread of life who gives himself and remains to us, Emmanuel, in this most holy sacrament.

Speaker 20 But he earnestly desires to give his body for you,

Speaker 11 that his blood may be poured out, the blood of the new covenant, but for you.

Speaker 21 And so, this will be the focus here as we continue our Alexio.

Speaker 12 This is my body,

Speaker 15 which is given

Speaker 14 for you.

Speaker 27 This chalice,

Speaker 11 which is poured out

Speaker 14 for you,

Speaker 19 is the new covenant in my blood.

Speaker 7 Perhaps in our time of meditation here, we can, with our imagination,

Speaker 32 just hear Jesus saying these words to us.

Speaker 12 Might even place yourself

Speaker 12 in this scene.

Speaker 13 This is for you.

Speaker 32 This is for you.

Speaker 7 Make eye contact with Jesus

Speaker 14 here at the last supper but you can also see Jesus throughout his passion saying this for you for you for you

Speaker 12 this is my body

Speaker 10 scourged for you this is my head crowned for you

Speaker 7 this is my hand with nails in it for you this is my blood poured out for you

Speaker 7 And I give myself in the sacrament.

Speaker 14 I remain in the tabernacle for you, for you, for you

Speaker 32 because I earnestly desire to give myself to you and to receive you totally.

Speaker 25 We'll continue another with Lexio.

Speaker 12 This is my body,

Speaker 6 which is given

Speaker 11 for you.

Speaker 9 This chalice, which is poured out

Speaker 14 for you,

Speaker 7 is the new covenant in my blood.

Speaker 12 This is my body given for you.

Speaker 31 This chalice poured out for you.

Speaker 14 For you.

Speaker 11 Now we'll begin our time of aratio, of prayer, following our template.

Speaker 32 Receive, respond, request, rejoice, receive the good news.

Speaker 16 What is the good news being offered?

Speaker 9 Jesus is the bread of life.

Speaker 7 What is the good news being offered?

Speaker 1 Here, there's this particular revelation of the heart of Jesus for you.

Speaker 24 That Jesus burns with love for you.

Speaker 14 And he freely gives his life, gives his body to be broken for you.

Speaker 25 He freely gives his blood to be poured out for you.

Speaker 30 And he remains with us in the most holy sacrament for you.

Speaker 29 Let's move now into our response.

Speaker 33 We begin with adoration and praise.

Speaker 19 We thank you, Emmanuel, for remaining with us in the most beautiful and creative expressions of your love for us.

Speaker 33 We thank you for your heart, which burns for us.

Speaker 6 We thank you, Jesus, for your body given for us.

Speaker 31 We thank you, Jesus, for your blood poured out for us.

Speaker 19 We thank you for the new covenant made with us by your blood, the blood of the Lamb of God.

Speaker 14 We adore you, Lord.

Speaker 32 We adore you, Lord, for this burning fire of charity that you have for each of us.

Speaker 29 And then, what's the response to this good news?

Speaker 15 What's our response?

Speaker 9 Help us, Lord, to receive this gift.

Speaker 26 That we are beloved of you, Lord.

Speaker 7 and that we are no longer our own, that we belong to a covenant made in your blood, that we have been purchased by the blood of the Lamb poured out for each of us.

Speaker 2 As you say, Lord, do this in remembrance of us, we know in particular referring to the sacrament.

Speaker 25 But also may we freely, in response to you giving yourself for us, give ourselves totally to you.

Speaker 7 Can we live these words of Saint Francis spoken, written to the order, to the community, hold back nothing of yourselves for yourselves, so that he who gives himself totally to you may receive you totally.

Speaker 7 You who give yourself totally to us, Lord, may we respond by giving ourselves totally to you.

Speaker 21 Particularly, Lord, we ask for a greater gratitude for your passion. We pray for a greater gratitude.

Speaker 15 for this most holy sacrament, for the most holy Eucharist, a greater reverence

Speaker 9 for this most holy Eucharist.

Speaker 24 May we come to you in prayer more and more often, in adoration more and more often.

Speaker 29 Now we'll move to request.

Speaker 5 Lord, we just ask for this grace to respond to your Eucharistic love with our own love.

Speaker 7 To love you totally if you have loved us totally.

Speaker 25 To give ourselves totally to you, who have given yourselves totally for us.

Speaker 16 Increase in our hearts, Lord.

Speaker 19 We ask for the grace for an increased Eucharistic amazement.

Speaker 29 May we receive more and more deeply to our minds and to our hearts the truth of our identity.

Speaker 29 The truth of your beloved sons and daughters, for whom you burn with love.

Speaker 7 And now we conclude with our time of varatio with this rejoicing. We just give you thanks for this truth spoken again, Lord, over our hearts and to our lives.

Speaker 8 We thank you for the gift of your passion.

Speaker 7 We thank you for being

Speaker 15 the good shepherd

Speaker 13 who lays down his life for his sheep

Speaker 12 and who never abandons his flock,

Speaker 7 but remains Emmanuel God with us.

Speaker 25 We bless you.

Speaker 12 We love you for this time of prayer and the graces poured out, Lord, into our lives.
