Speaker 3 Today we'll be doing Lexio Divina with the second joyful mystery, the visitation, Luke chapter 1, verses 39 through 56.
Speaker 9 And we'll be paying particular attention to the faith of Mary and the faithfulness of God
Speaker 2 in those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country to a city of Judah
Speaker 14 and she entered the house of Zachariah and greeted Elizabeth
Speaker 6 and when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary
Speaker 8 the child leaped in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and she exclaimed with a loud cry,
Speaker 1 Blessed are you among women,
Speaker 3 and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
Speaker 1 And why is this granted me
Speaker 9 that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
Speaker 14 For behold,
Speaker 1 when the voice of your greeting came to my ears, the child in my womb leaped for joy.
Speaker 14 And blessed is she who believed,
Speaker 10 that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.
Speaker 2 And Mary said
Speaker 12 My soul magnifies the Lord,
Speaker 2 and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour,
Speaker 2 for he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden.
Speaker 3 For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
Speaker 9 For he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name,
Speaker 3 and his mercy is on those who fear him from generation to generation.
Speaker 2 He has shown strength with his arm.
Speaker 2 He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
Speaker 6 He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
Speaker 1 and exalted those of low degree.
Speaker 9 He has filled the hungry with good things,
Speaker 3 and the rich he has sent empty away.
Speaker 3 He has helped his servant Israel in remembrance of his mercy,
Speaker 12 as he spoke to our fathers,
Speaker 3 to Abraham, and to his posterity for ever.
Speaker 17 And Mary remained with her about three months and returned to her home
Speaker 1 so let's go ahead and highlight in this time of Lexio some of the the key movements versus themes we have the opening verse Mary arose and went with haste Mary
Speaker 20 who had recently conceived Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit she goes promptly she goes quickly to the hill country to Elizabeth and remember who Elizabeth is Elizabeth is the one who was called barren yet she is conceived.
Speaker 15 As Mary greets Elizabeth, the child in her womb leaps for joy.
Speaker 12 John the Baptist, the child in her womb, is the first to recognize the Messiah.
Speaker 8 And these beautiful words of Elizabeth:
Speaker 19 Blessed is she who believed.
Speaker 14 Blessed is she who believed that there would be fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.
Speaker 23 Elizabeth, rejoicing in the faith of Mary and the faithfulness of God.
Speaker 9 And then Mary's great prayer, the magnificat.
Speaker 12 My soul magnifies the Lord. Henceforth, all generations will call me blessed.
Speaker 3 Is that true? Did that come true?
Speaker 16 Yes, that came true.
Speaker 12 Mary had faith and God was faithful, and all generations continue to call her blessed.
Speaker 9 And we see this great song of joy of Mary about the faithfulness of God, the goodness of God.
Speaker 12 And we remember that what Mary experienced first, we will also experience the goodness of God, the faithfulness of God.
Speaker 20 The visitation of Mary, this beautiful encounter between the Virgin Mother, Our Lady, the barren mother, Elizabeth,
Speaker 22 the great prophet John the Baptist, and the Savior,
Speaker 20 all rejoicing in the fidelity of God.
Speaker 23 particularly in the advent of Christ who has come to save mankind.
Speaker 12 We're going to focus just on verse 45, these words of Elizabeth to Mary.
Speaker 14 And blessed is she who believed
Speaker 4 that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.
Speaker 2 What is Mary's great work?
Speaker 21 Mary's great work is faith, is to believe, is to trust, is to say yes to God.
Speaker 21 And God keeps his promises.
Speaker 16 One last time.
Speaker 14 Blessed is she
Speaker 14 who believed.
Speaker 1 Now we're moving into our time of Aratsu, our prayer.
Speaker 12 And again, we're going to follow this movement.
Speaker 2 Receive, respond, request, rejoice.
Speaker 12 What is the good news that the visitation is offering us us to receive particularly what is god revealing about himself
Speaker 12 god is revealing that he keeps his promises
Speaker 19 god revealing that if we say yes to him he will be faithful
Speaker 12 and how do we see this well we see god
Speaker 1 through the incarnation Through the miraculous conception, through the power of the Holy Spirit of Jesus in the womb of Mary, fulfilling all of his promises to send us a Savior in general, but also in particular, keeping his promise to Mary.
Speaker 26 And what does this reveal to us as well about the heart of God?
Speaker 2 God created us, he loves us, he sustains us in being.
Speaker 20 But we sinned, right?
Speaker 23 We rejected God, and yet he has not abandoned us.
Speaker 19 He sees us.
Speaker 12 He sees that we are in need of a Savior because of our own wrongdoing, our own sin.
Speaker 18 Yet still he sends us the Savior.
Speaker 28 Still he sends us Jesus.
Speaker 12 And in this most beautiful way, we also see how God
Speaker 26 exalts like Elizabeth and exalts John the Baptist and exalts Mary,
Speaker 3 particularly Mary,
Speaker 23 that all generations will call her blessed.
Speaker 26 And how this reveals the tenderness, the goodness of his heart.
Speaker 26 now let's go ahead and respond and let's begin with praise and adoration lord we just we thank you lord for your goodness we thank you for your patience and your perseverance we thank you for seeing us
Speaker 12 for not abandoning us when we are lost for not abandoning us to our sin
Speaker 20 we thank you lord we bless you father for keeping your promises
Speaker 10 for keeping your promises by sending a Savior.
Speaker 2 In a particular way, let's go ahead and praise God for his fidelity to to Mary.
Speaker 20 We thank you, Lord, for your goodness.
Speaker 20 We thank you, Lord, for your goodness to our Blessed Mother, for your fidelity to the Blessed Mother, for your faithfulness to the Blessed Mother,
Speaker 20 for giving her as a model, for giving her as a gift,
Speaker 12 and fulfilling this promise that all generations
Speaker 14 will call her blessed.
Speaker 2 And we thank you for the work of being able to share and fulfilling this promise by ourselves, continuing to call her blessed.
Speaker 2 And now, what else is the invitation? What else is the other response to imitate Mary's faith?
Speaker 2 Mary is blessed because she believed.
Speaker 12 May we also find our blessedness in our faith.
Speaker 25 May we also find our blessedness in our yes to God,
Speaker 12 our trusting of Him, that He is a Father who will not abandon us, that He will be faithful, that He will keep His promises
Speaker 4 and request, Lord, help us to believe
Speaker 26 as Mary believed, that we may rejoice as Mary rejoice, that we may magnify you, Lord, as Mary magnifies you.
Speaker 20 And in closing, let us rejoice.
Speaker 28 We thank you, God.
Speaker 12 We thank you, Lord, that you give us what we need.
Speaker 14 that we don't have to believe by our own power,
Speaker 22 but that our faith, it's a grace that you want to give us, Lord.
Speaker 11 Help us to cooperate with this grace and fill us anew with this grace.
Speaker 20 We thank you, God, for your faithfulness. We thank you for your tenderness.
Speaker 19 We thank you for this beautiful insight.
Speaker 19 And we thank you, Lord, for showing your faithfulness even today as you increase your working of grace, as you increase our faith.
Speaker 24 Now, as we end our episode with our time of contemplation or contemplatio,
Speaker 23 let's really bring to the Lord that area in our life
Speaker 12 where faith and trust are most difficult.
Speaker 11 And through Mary's prayers, ask for an increase in faith in that area,
Speaker 2 for an increase in hope that in that area, if we believe, that we too may experience the faithfulness of God.
Speaker 26 Let us pray in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
