Day 243: The Transfiguration and Institution of the Eucharist

11m

How do we recognize God’s voice in prayer? Fr. Mark-Mary teaches that the most certain way is through Scripture, where God’s word speaks clearly and consistently. As we regularly read and pray with the Bible, we become more familiar with His voice and more receptive to it in mental prayer. Today’s focus is the mysteries of the Transfiguration and Institution of the Eucharist and we will be praying two decades of the Rosary.

I am Father Mark Mary with Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, and this is the Rosary in a Year podcast where through prayer and meditation, the Rosary brings us deeper into relationship with Jesus and Mary and becomes a source of grace for the whole world.

The Rosary in a Year is brought to you by Ascension.

This is day 243.

To download the prayer plan for Rosary in a Year, visit AscensionPress.com forward slash Rosary in a Year or text RIY to 33777.

You'll get an outline of how we're going to pray each month and it's a great way to track your progress.

The best place to listen to the podcast is in the Ascension app.

There are special features built just for this podcast and also recordings of the full Rosary with myself and other friars.

I encourage you to pick up a copy of the Rosary in a Year prayer guide, a book published by Ascension that was designed to complement this podcast.

You'll find all the daily readings from scripture, saint reflections, and beautiful images of the sacred art we'll be reflecting on.

Today we'll be praying the the fourth and the fifth luminous mysteries, the transfiguration, and the institution of the Eucharist.

One of the struggles that comes up with people who are trying to pray or have been in seasons of prayers, maybe an experience of not hearing God's voice.

And I guess the first question I will always ask people, like, are you not hearing his voice?

Are you not recognizing it?

Because there's this...

somewhat of this idea of that if I close my eyes and I pray, I don't have any sort of thing guiding my prayer.

I'm going to hear hear God speak in a very, very clear and particular and unique way, like you should do this, you shouldn't do this.

Here's like my heart for you, etc.

And that's just not, I would say, guaranteed.

But the place for us to objectively, foundationally hear God's voice is by actually going to his word.

And so there is a mental prayer.

and praying of the rosary, as I've talked about, it really kind of does presuppose a relationship with the scriptures.

And that if we open the word of God and we spend time with the scriptures, we are objectively guaranteed and promised to have an encounter with the word of God.

And as we spend time with God's word, it becomes part of our own mind.

And it can be something that as we do pray, like we pull from it, we call it to mind, and it can speak to us in the midst of our mental prayer.

So if you're struggling to hear God's word, my encouragement is just to begin again with spending some time reading and praying with the scriptures.

So we'll go ahead and call to mind our point of meditation and prayer.

Invoke the Holy Spirit, be aware of God who is with us.

And we begin in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

The fourth luminous mystery is the Transfiguration.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
