Day 286: The Luminous and Sorrowful Mysteries
Fr. Mark-Mary explains that sometimes, praying the mysteries of the Rosary in a different order can open us up to different insights. Today, we witness the continuity of Jesus’ sonship, as his Father reveals him in the Transfiguration and as Jesus turns to his Father in the Agony in the Garden. Although these moments are very different in tone, we see the truths of the Father’s love for Jesus, and for us. Today’s focus is the mysteries of the Transfiguration, the Institution of the Eucharist, the Agony in the Garden, and the Scourging at the Pillar. We will be praying four decades of the Rosary.

Speaker 5 All right, so today we will be concluding the luminous mysteries and then we will be beginning the sorrowful mysteries.
Speaker 5 So we'll pray the fourth and the fifth luminous mysteries, the transfiguration and the institution of the Eucharist.
Speaker 12 And then the first two sorrowful mysteries, the agony in the garden and the scourging at the pillar.
Speaker 10 And this is one of those times, again, where we're praying some of these mysteries in maybe a different order than we normally would on different days, right?
Speaker 9 Because normally you'd pray just the luminous mysteries and then a different day you'd pray the sorrowful mysteries. But here we're making these connections and
Speaker 6 look at the contrast here between
Speaker 5 Jesus, right, transfigured on the mountain and then Jesus in the garden, Jesus being scourged at the pillar.
Speaker 9 And again, this connection of Jesus hearing the Father, right?
Speaker 22 Like, this is my beloved Son, and remaining confident in the Father, even in the garden where he goes, my father, my father, my father.
Speaker 19 And then, of course, there's the institution of the Eucharist, the institution of the sacrifice of the Mass.
Speaker 6 And we see this offering, this is my blood poured out for you.
Speaker 5 And we see his blood, in fact, being poured out for us in his earthly life, at the agony in the garden, and the scourging at the pillar.
Speaker 9 So I just encourage you to take note of this as we pray these particular sets of mysteries together.
Speaker 10 We'll begin in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
