Speaker 1 Hello again, it's Brennan Lee Mulligan, and you're listening to part two two of this episode of Critical Role.

Speaker 1 If you haven't checked out part one yet, pause this now and head over there first. What are you doing?

Speaker 1 Otherwise, let's jump right back into this adventure and the world of Aroman

Speaker 1 fills the glade all around.

Speaker 1 Levitating in the air, Wakander Halovar

Speaker 1 summons a power to himself. Plants grow and bloom as the radiance of the sun itself fills all within sight.

Speaker 1 You see the giant shambling mound bowing to you, the dryad in the center of the clearing.

Speaker 1 The thorns dissipate into the earth as she looks and goes,

Speaker 1 what

Speaker 1 are you?

Speaker 1 Oh,

Speaker 1 um,

Speaker 1 am I levitating right now?

Speaker 1 In that moment of confusion, you collapse to your knees on the grass. Okay.

Speaker 1 Uh, you look over, the fungal man standing over Teor looks, his skin badly singed by the light as the one sort of non-photosynthetic plant person here going, my lady, I've been badly burned

Speaker 1 as Hawthorne stays locked on you to answer her question.

Speaker 1 I'm just sort of panting and unaware of what just happened, or at least unaware of

Speaker 1 what was on my back, I guess.

Speaker 1 I will

Speaker 1 try to climb to my feet and

Speaker 1 we are friends.

Speaker 1 We are. Skinner, stop! You see that over by Teor, the tiny little man has gotten one of his iron boots up on top of Teor's head as preparing to crush his skull under his foot.
And he goes, ha!

Speaker 1 please unhand my

Speaker 1 man's.

Speaker 1 How am I supposed to unhand someone with my foot?

Speaker 1 Unfoot him, please.

Speaker 1 I demand it.

Speaker 1 You did.

Speaker 1 And you see,

Speaker 1 he says, I'm getting your blood in my hat. And he

Speaker 1 walks off.

Speaker 1 You see that Hawthorne looks to you and says,

Speaker 1 You and your friends are safe, though we have yet to determine if you will be permitted into the glade.

Speaker 1 What

Speaker 1 are you?

Speaker 1 Good question.

Speaker 1 I am, um,

Speaker 1 uh,

Speaker 1 you seem rather perplexed by a question whose answer I would assume is very

Speaker 1 simple.

Speaker 1 I'm a believer.

Speaker 1 I'm a man of faith and

Speaker 1 a man of truth.

Speaker 1 The little three sprite triplets, like the sort of little lost boy-looking fairies, zip around your head and say, Truth, what kind of truth? Yeah, some truths are bad. Some are good.
Which one?

Speaker 1 The good kind.

Speaker 1 I believe

Speaker 1 that we are all connected by light and

Speaker 1 we are all meant to take care of each other and

Speaker 1 trust each other and that good will prevail. And my friend here, the small, younger one,

Speaker 1 Thimble,

Speaker 1 she... How old are you?

Speaker 1 I'm in my late 20s, but I hardly. That's.

Speaker 1 This baby. Do you assume that the small folk are young?

Speaker 1 She just looks so adorable.

Speaker 1 How young do you think Skinner is? You see that the red cap has walked over to you, Cadogan. You see, he looks up, looks at you.
Where are you in relation to honeysuckle right?

Speaker 1 So while this little conversation has been going on, I've been trying to make my way to her. Like, that's that little ridge is kind of scrambling up to her little body, and I'm almost there to her.

Speaker 1 Skinner is a bitch.

Speaker 1 You see, you see that, Skinner

Speaker 1 senses that you want to say something.

Speaker 1 Um, and uh, as you get up there, he looks and goes, Hey, you get you, dirty hole.

Speaker 1 What did you do?

Speaker 1 One moment, one moment. I'll just scoop her little body up.
She's stable, but limp.

Speaker 1 All right, all right, hold on, hold on. I'm what I'm doing,

Speaker 1 and I'll do, uh, I'll cast cure wounds on her.

Speaker 1 Um, you see, oh no, it's a doll!

Speaker 1 My mortal enemy. Dolls.

Speaker 1 I feel that. You see, she

Speaker 1 lights

Speaker 1 first here.

Speaker 1 What does your magic look like as you heal her? Yeah, it's

Speaker 1 bad. Not bad, evil, bad, but it's...

Speaker 1 Like Michael Jackson. Yeah, that kind of bad.

Speaker 1 No, it feels amateurish. It feels poor.
It feels

Speaker 1 it is taking everything in him to cast this first-level spell. Uh, and and it's a high level of concentration is not good, but uh it but it works and it feels um

Speaker 1 it feels warm, it looks like it would have a scent, but it doesn't. Uh, it is

Speaker 1 yeah,

Speaker 1 good point. Yeah, it's not great

Speaker 1 a little bit of humble woodland magic as she

Speaker 1 alights.

Speaker 1 Thank you

Speaker 1 You're welcome.

Speaker 1 She turns around, Skinner goes, Hi, Sakai, and she zips right over to Teor in front of your face.

Speaker 1 And she goes, You're wonderful.

Speaker 1 You sent the light to embrace me, beautiful light.

Speaker 1 And I

Speaker 1 saw all the lights in the world, and I felt so warm and then hot.

Speaker 1 Thimble?

Speaker 1 What?

Speaker 1 your cousin here is

Speaker 1 most overjoyed she looks over she flies over to you and says

Speaker 1 another pixie

Speaker 1 she gives you a big hug um uh she looks over and says

Speaker 1 we're

Speaker 1 cousins but like distant cousins I think because you're super distant because

Speaker 1 you're from

Speaker 1 you're from hearth or the golden orchard or something that's That's right.

Speaker 1 A garden fairy. Yeah.
That's wonderful.

Speaker 1 Well,

Speaker 1 none of you are allowed here. And you see that

Speaker 1 Hawthorne says, honeysuckle to me. She says,

Speaker 1 Mama. She goes, not your mom.
And she flies over. Oh, God, I love honeysuckle.
Oh, shit.

Speaker 1 Our heart grows.

Speaker 1 You'll know her say a man.

Speaker 1 It's not existing. I love you.

Speaker 1 You see, she goes and lands over on Hawthorne's shoulder and she says, Very good, honeysuckle.

Speaker 1 And you see that much like a vining flower growing on a tree, that where honeysuckle sits, just flowers begin to vine around Hawthorne's arm and

Speaker 1 calm her down, seem to settle her war frenzy that she was in.

Speaker 1 She looks over as she does. You see, honeysuckle looks over at you, Tayra and goes, Thank you.

Speaker 1 You see, Skinner looks and says, You see, Skinner, giant bloody tears are forming in his eyes as he sees that honeysuckle has some affection for you. He goes, Not like this.

Speaker 1 And you immediately see Tayer looking around. Big emotions just seem to fill this space as the verdant flowers grow.
None more so than this massive mound of just the faceless.

Speaker 1 It's just a massive sort of like, not even a head, just sort of like a big lump and torso of vines and briars with long tendrilly arms. It's just continuing to bow towards Wick.

Speaker 1 I know if you can understand, but you don't need to bow to me like that.

Speaker 1 Bow down to you. How the f did you do that? I don't know.
I don't know. We'll figure it out later.
You want to fly around? Are those wings still there?

Speaker 1 As I fly around to the back of them, the light has faded. Basically, in the moment of seeming to like,

Speaker 1 it really sort of is on like Wiley Coyote rules. The second you became aware that you were floating, you stopped floating.

Speaker 1 You

Speaker 1 just

Speaker 1 you see that

Speaker 1 Hawthorne approaches honeysuckle on her shoulder. The larger sort of myconid, the sort of fungal man,

Speaker 1 steps over

Speaker 1 and she says, I'm Hawthorne.

Speaker 1 What is your name?

Speaker 1 I'm called Wick

Speaker 1 Wickander.

Speaker 1 And these are my

Speaker 1 friends.

Speaker 1 Honeysuckle looks and says, you travel

Speaker 1 with the god of the sun. And you see that Hawthorne says, Honeysuckle, some things happened while you were unconscious.

Speaker 1 She looks and says...

Speaker 1 I have asked you a question twice, and I will ask it again. That you cannot answer.
There will be some knowledge for me in the absence of information. What are you?

Speaker 1 You said a believer.

Speaker 1 Believer in truths?

Speaker 1 I don't know any truth to believe in that would make me capable of that.

Speaker 1 I believe in the light. That's all I know at this point.

Speaker 1 I...

Speaker 1 I know that there were some who believed in gods long ago.

Speaker 1 And I know there are some who believe in religions and...

Speaker 1 and other things now, but all I know is that I believe in the light.

Speaker 1 Well.

Speaker 1 There are clearly some who believe in in you.

Speaker 1 Shafa seems quite taken with you. I've never even known that.

Speaker 1 Shuffa.

Speaker 1 I didn't even know that Shafa was capable of sort of having emotions this complex. And you see that this Shaffa, which is the massive.
Well, this is this much mobility. Yeah.

Speaker 1 Normally, they're just upright.

Speaker 1 You see that she says he's quite smitten with you.

Speaker 1 Oh,

Speaker 1 I'm betrothed, actually, so I don't know.

Speaker 1 Oh,

Speaker 1 I don't think Shuffa is you see that rainbloom tyranny? Yeah.

Speaker 1 Are you getting married?

Speaker 1 Me?

Speaker 1 Never mind. No.

Speaker 1 Uh you see that uh

Speaker 1 Hawthorne says

Speaker 1 the magic you wield is a potent one and

Speaker 1 my cousin, what might I call you?

Speaker 1 Thimble, my lady. Thimble.

Speaker 1 Thimble, of course, you are welcome here. How did you find us? We fear if news were to spread too far and wide of the location of the glade.
We won't tell anyone. Um, your scout

Speaker 1 told us. Told me.

Speaker 1 Uh, there are many.

Speaker 1 I don't want to get her in trouble, Brookmeadow.

Speaker 1 Uh,

Speaker 1 she told you in the company of these other Mormons. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, um

Speaker 1 she told me underwater

Speaker 1 you see that here she narrows her eyes on tyranny looking around and says

Speaker 1 and at this moment I think Wolfrick

Speaker 1 rejoins you in the glade um

Speaker 1 she says

Speaker 1 some

Speaker 1 in your company are no stranger to the woodlands, but I can't imagine that these others would have come seeking us unless you had brought them here. They didn't.

Speaker 1 We're on a another path. To be honest, we we didn't even mean to come by this way.

Speaker 1 Um,

Speaker 1 but they're all

Speaker 2 good of heart.

Speaker 1 I fought alongside them for a long time, except for these two, but you saw yourself.

Speaker 1 He comes with

Speaker 1 great gifts

Speaker 1 and if I may we are charged in the protection of this vessel of the light so please

Speaker 1 forgive me for my actions I was only acting in defense

Speaker 1 she looks to you and says

Speaker 1 we defend our border fiercely as you should

Speaker 1 you see that uh

Speaker 1 she

Speaker 1 regards you all looks over

Speaker 1 uh

Speaker 1 what do you think rainboom you see that the uh the miconid

Speaker 1 looks over and says well

Speaker 1 in

Speaker 1 matters such as these

Speaker 1 if they are under the protection of one of our own who can vouch at least for the character of these warriors

Speaker 1 I would say to allow those for whom she can speak in

Speaker 1 as for those to whom she cannot speak or speak for

Speaker 1 well one of them has just displayed a rather a miraculous

Speaker 1 act of magic. So

Speaker 1 you see that Hawthorne says it's too many. Too many in too many days.

Speaker 1 Were there

Speaker 1 other others? Others like us? Tall folk, big folk? Yes.

Speaker 1 Any like me?

Speaker 1 Yes.

Speaker 1 one

Speaker 1 we are searching for him

Speaker 1 did he cause trouble did he have stressed fur

Speaker 1 I cannot speak to the nature of his fur but perhaps we should to the glade you see that uh skinner looks up and says you can't bring in that soul man that's too many big folks and potato

Speaker 1 you corner potato why don't you put on some iron boots of your own and come down here to the mud to wrestle with me? Yeah,

Speaker 1 um, you see

Speaker 1 that

Speaker 1 she, Hawthorne looks out and goes,

Speaker 1 Time has come to act.

Speaker 1 Making the safe choice day after day after day is not. And you see that she just shares a look with

Speaker 1 Rainbloom here that any of you are welcome to make an insight to check into if you would like.

Speaker 1 I'll do one as well.

Speaker 1 18.

Speaker 1 12.

Speaker 1 Um,

Speaker 1 Teor, I think on an 18, you just look at

Speaker 1 fairy or otherwise as

Speaker 1 wild and big-hearted and primal as these creatures of the realm of fairy are,

Speaker 1 you know that they are stranded here in this world. And I think that

Speaker 1 regardless of a battlefield to a Sylvan Glade, you understand leaders making reckless choices because safe choices are meant to doom them.

Speaker 1 You can see that thing where they've been diligently repelling outsiders.

Speaker 1 And whatever their situation is, on an 18 insight, you don't know, you don't have the information about what that would be, but you can see the look of a leader who is realizing that making the safe bet every time they're watching their stack diminish.

Speaker 1 Come with us then.

Speaker 1 She turns and begins to move,

Speaker 1 and as you leave this glade, you see it glows brighter.

Speaker 1 The flowers that Wick passes that have a natural light within them, you can see the quality of the light shifts from these kind of deep purples or pinks or greens to become golden, radiant, the golden and white light.

Speaker 1 And often there is a little burst of like pollen and moths glowing with that golden light as Wick passes by.

Speaker 1 Tyranny's eyes are locked the fuck in on Wick. She's taking a moment to herself.

Speaker 1 And she catches up.

Speaker 1 What just happened? I don't know, I don't know, but I did what you said. I lied a little bit.
I said I didn't. You didn't lie.
You didn't lie.

Speaker 1 Well, I said I was a believer, and I don't know if that's true anymore, but they seem to go for it. And are you going to be okay? Do demons and fairies have beef? I have, I mean,

Speaker 1 Thimble and I don't, so I think that's okay. I kind of think you do, but.

Speaker 1 No.

Speaker 1 I, I don't know. Do you think she doesn't like me? She doesn't like me for sure.
Well, I mean, no, now, I mean, mean, you did great. I think that you are, I think you're actually killing it.

Speaker 1 I think that you're actually doing a really good job. I think that you're really good.

Speaker 1 And I think that I'm not. No, no, you're doing great.
You're doing great. You, you woke me up by kicking me in the neck.
It was awful, but thank you. That was very bright of you.

Speaker 1 Okay.

Speaker 1 I think you're going to figure out

Speaker 1 what it actually means to be a believer and I think that you are doing that and I think that you're doing a really good job. So let's go.

Speaker 1 Anyone who would like to give me a nature check on the way past that Sylvan boundary stone? 18. Or if anyone speaks Sylvan you can take a closer look at it.
Okay, yeah.

Speaker 1 Oh. Oh,

Speaker 1 actually hello good.

Speaker 1 I had a little good. Where were these rolls early? 23.

Speaker 1 23? Hell yeah, what do we get over here? 3020. 3020.

Speaker 1 23. You read these warning signs,

Speaker 1 it says, you know, warning in Sylvan on it, and you see that there is a collection of sigils that are attached to some kind of innate magic deeper into this glade,

Speaker 1 farther into the woods here. On a 23 nature, you also see that this stone probably has, is like carved from deep in the ground.

Speaker 1 and likely has others nearby. You can almost sense their presence in that nature check throughout the wood.
The message in Sylvan

Speaker 1 simply says,

Speaker 1 All who would seek to stab at the heart of creation know that it is your heart you seek to destroy. And that seems to be the

Speaker 1 it seems to be that's like the it's almost incantation of a spell. It's like a warning, but it's written so poetically because it is also the words necessary of casting.
a protection spell.

Speaker 1 And you realize as you pass by the stone

Speaker 1 that you actually feel an arcane boundary here. So not only is it a warning to people that can read, but it's also a, there's some kind of magic anchored to it as you push through it.
It's effortless.

Speaker 1 Tyranny, even you're a little worried about like, is this thing gonna,

Speaker 1 you know, and you move through it fine.

Speaker 1 On that dirty 20, Tayer, you get your whiskers and your nostrils twitch for a second. That divine sense, which is not fully active right now.

Speaker 1 On that 20, you sense that these stones have been keyed to the undead and that they would not feel an ease of passage through this boundary stone.

Speaker 1 Moving through the glade, you see, who's you guys are sort of in the back.

Speaker 1 Who's in the lead with Hawthorne?

Speaker 1 Probably, yeah. Yeah, you walk up, you see that Rainbloom turns to you, is walking very slowly, and goes,

Speaker 1 So you are a pixie of the golden orchard. Well, I was, yeah.

Speaker 1 Marvelous.

Speaker 1 How fares the noble house of Royce?

Speaker 1 Do you tend

Speaker 1 still to the gardens there?

Speaker 1 No, I don't tend to the gardens there. I haven't for a long time, actually.
My condolences. Thanks.

Speaker 1 You have been...

Speaker 1 lost, as many of us have been.

Speaker 1 Well...

Speaker 1 I wasn't for a long time, actually. I was I was um I was living in the city.

Speaker 1 Oh, dreadful, yeah,

Speaker 1 but it was it was not so bad. Um,

Speaker 1 you know, I had some good stuff going on.

Speaker 1 Oh,

Speaker 1 that's lovely. It is good, it is good to be back, though, uh, amongst

Speaker 1 everything.

Speaker 1 Yes, it is very good.

Speaker 1 Where we are going,

Speaker 1 It is almost like a little piece of home.

Speaker 1 I've never seen home

Speaker 1 You were born in the orchard. Yeah

Speaker 1 It

Speaker 1 colors

Speaker 1 beyond counting And you see that his eyes go prismatic just like rippling iridescent pools of color

Speaker 1 Sunrises of every hue

Speaker 1 painted across the sky.

Speaker 1 Even the memory of it

Speaker 1 fills my

Speaker 1 stock

Speaker 1 with joy.

Speaker 1 One day,

Speaker 1 perhaps, but for now, the glade is home. And you see, he moves these vines to the side and before you

Speaker 1 a massive hawthorn tree

Speaker 1 that is in full blossom small white flowers red berries black thorns

Speaker 1 spreads out over a enormous grassy and mostly the clover filled it's a bunch of small humble little grass flowers throughout this glade and you see

Speaker 1 this crystalline mountain lake that deep in the waters you see there are fish of silver and gold swimming throughout with small little myrrh nixies swimming with them little fishtails and fins uh you see a massive awakened tree sort of like looking out over the glade there are pixies and sprites and satyrs all of whom are gathered here and for a moment it is this explosion of color and happy voices seeing hawthorne approach you see as hawthorne moves you notice a small intake of breath just from her seeing, and you realize that that tree that dominates the edge of the glade and the edge of the lake and where they meet is her.

Speaker 1 That is her. That tree.

Speaker 1 As she moves through, you see that many of the fairies laugh and a light. You see the three little sprite boys that are with you.

Speaker 1 You see that Hawthorne turns to them and says, Bix, Mac, flip. Let everyone know we're safe.
And you see that, y'all, you got it!

Speaker 1 Tear off.

Speaker 1 Um.

Speaker 1 How are they so young still?

Speaker 1 The three of them? Born here?

Speaker 1 Born here.

Speaker 1 Their mother came seeking out. Um,

Speaker 1 well, let me show you.

Speaker 1 Um,

Speaker 1 you see that she takes you to the tree. Uh, it looks like a lot of people are gathered there.
As you begin to walk through this place, you see that for all of its wonder and magic,

Speaker 1 there is a lot of

Speaker 1 indication here of how people have come to be here.

Speaker 1 You see that there are

Speaker 1 wagons with like some broken wheels or otherwise untended to off in a corner you see

Speaker 1 there is a small area of like meadow grass where some fairies are laid out with little sort of flower bells casting light on them as they kind of breathe shallowly some of them you see appear to have soot caked up around their neck or mouths as though they have been living somewhere too far away from anything of fae magic for too long

Speaker 1 In other words, there's a tremendous amount of play and whimsy here, but you also see by by the trappings of how everyone has arrived here that almost everyone here made it in the nick of time.

Speaker 1 Hawthorne turns and says,

Speaker 1 do any of you require rest or provisions?

Speaker 1 Sir,

Speaker 1 our Radiance is quite hungry. He did not eat today.
And as you can tell, he is quite weak after a big show.

Speaker 1 Yes.

Speaker 1 Well, with the power you wield, we must keep you healthy.

Speaker 1 She looks around and says, who's not Rust Blossom? And you see that a

Speaker 1 really

Speaker 1 small, flat clod of dirt with some of the ugliest red grass growing out of his flat little head. He's about just like a little plate of a fairy, no wings, just a little stumpin' guy.
Says, my lady.

Speaker 1 And you see, she says, please fetch some food for our guests. You see, Russ Blossom goes, at your service.

Speaker 1 Strawberries.

Speaker 1 Yes, yes, of course. You got it.
Are you regular sized or

Speaker 1 I mean, yes,

Speaker 1 I don't know. I don't know how things work.
Here. I'm sorry, yes.
But everybody's little here. No, I know that, but I.
Yes, please. Yes, thank you so much.
All right, we'll get you some strawberries.

Speaker 1 And you see, sort of toddles off.

Speaker 1 Hawthorne

Speaker 1 approaches the base of where the Hawthorne tree. It's one of those embankments where it's probably like

Speaker 1 it doesn't slope gradually into the water. It's like grass and then a little overhang and then dirt for about three or four feet before the water's surface, almost like a little

Speaker 1 calling a three-foot cliff a cliff is crazy, but you know what I mean? The banks are very steep, and the grass is hanging over the edge.

Speaker 1 Where the roots of the hawthorn tree go out into the lake, you see that that embankment opens, and there is a cave in those roots, sort of in the base of the tree, where you see a number of

Speaker 1 fairies and other sylvan folk are gathered on blankets

Speaker 1 around

Speaker 1 a massive crystal that is jutting up out of the ground, that, you know, sort of like eight or 12 sides.

Speaker 1 It's almost one of those things where it's coming out in a couple different directions with those jutting geometric shapes, and it's just casting this silver light.

Speaker 1 And you immediately, on that 23 from before, recognize that this is what's making those plinths work. This is the source of the magic.

Speaker 1 This is what's making this entire settlement be able to exist at all.

Speaker 1 And you see, Hawthorne looks at it, this crystal in the base of her tree,

Speaker 1 and you just see this weight fall over her, because there's probably about somewhere between 80 to 100 fairies in this glade, and it's all hinging on this thing in her roots and whether she can keep it safe or not.

Speaker 1 You said your brother,

Speaker 1 someone who looked like you, had happened by.

Speaker 1 Uh

Speaker 1 he

Speaker 1 did.

Speaker 1 I must speak with some in my.

Speaker 20 Welcome back to Listen to Your Heart.

Speaker 13 I'm Jerry.

Speaker 21 And I'm Jerry's Heart.

Speaker 20 Today's topic, Repatha Evaloki Map. Heart, why'd you pick this one?

Speaker 21 Well, Jerry, for people who have had a heart attack, like us, Diet and exercise might not be enough to lower the risk of another one.

Speaker 17 Okay.

Speaker 21 To help know if we're at risk, we should be getting our LDLC, our bad cholesterol, checked and talking to our doctor.

Speaker 20 I'm listening.

Speaker 21 And if it's still too high, Rapatha can be added to a statin to lower our LDLC and our heart attack risk.

Speaker 1 Hmm.

Speaker 20 Guess it's time to ask about Repatha.

Speaker 1 Do not take Repatha if you're allergic to it. Serious allergic reactions can occur.

Speaker 1 She turns over.

Speaker 1 You see that there is a older, very short woman, very thin old, like

Speaker 1 skinny arms.

Speaker 1 She's smiling. She's got like a bandana over her head and thick wild kind of gray hair.

Speaker 1 And she's like sitting in a pile of blankets with blankets like over where her legs would sort of be. And you see that she looks out.

Speaker 1 Hawthorne goes, Subri, may I speak with you? And she says, Of course.

Speaker 1 Hello, my friends. Welcome.
Is she people-size or is she fairly size? She's bigger than fairy size, but she's probably only about like four or four and a half feet tall. Subri.
Subri.

Speaker 1 You see that

Speaker 1 Hawthorne looks and says, Rainbloom, our guests, take them to the water's edge and make sure they're fed. And you see that Rainbloom nods and says,

Speaker 1 come with me if you'd be so kind. Rust Blossom comes over with a big plate of strawberries.

Speaker 1 And you see that Rainbloom goes,

Speaker 1 five wood, how did we get so many?

Speaker 1 And you see that Rus Blossom goes, I don't know, all the berry vines,

Speaker 1 a few minutes ago, all the berry vines went nuts.

Speaker 1 There's so many berries everywhere. We're gonna.
Wow.

Speaker 1 And you see

Speaker 1 a bowl of the most exquisite-looking fruit lands in front of you.

Speaker 1 By the beam, thank you so much for this.

Speaker 1 Normally you taste things for poison, but...

Speaker 1 Go ahead.

Speaker 1 I trust these. Oh, fucking eat it.

Speaker 1 I grab a handful of strawberries, leaves and all, and stuff on the wall now, and just eat them right in front of them.

Speaker 1 I think the leaves are actually a little bit nightshady. No,

Speaker 1 no, okay, great.

Speaker 1 I don't want to spill on my

Speaker 1 rain blossom, rain,

Speaker 1 rainbloom. Rainbloom is our big mushroom menu.
Yes, I'm like kind of bobbing up and down in the air. Rainboom, can I um can I go look at the

Speaker 1 Hawthorne crystal?

Speaker 1 Yes, we've been calling it the moon crystal because it dims as the new moon approaches approaches and it seems to wax and wane with the moon, but it's just a name we've given it.

Speaker 1 I don't know if a prince or princess of fairy would tell us that's what it's actually called. Hawthorne

Speaker 1 was

Speaker 1 always,

Speaker 1 I suppose, left out of those other

Speaker 1 conversations around

Speaker 1 what it could be. Dryads, you know.

Speaker 1 They're more anchored to this world than many of the high fairies. They grow roots here, you know.
Yeah.

Speaker 1 Seems like you've grown some roots here.

Speaker 1 I look back at Teor.

Speaker 1 You see flitting out.

Speaker 1 Rainbloom just sort of says,

Speaker 1 eat, drink of the water of the lake.

Speaker 1 It is fed from a clear spring here and is safe to drink even for mortals.

Speaker 1 And I'm sure many of you, you see the sort of Fae around here are like giggling and laughing and looking at the big folks.

Speaker 1 You see that there's a corner, Teor, you look over, honeysuckle's talking to a bunch of other pixies, and they look over and they all giggle and get closer together as she points at you.

Speaker 1 A mouthful of fruit.

Speaker 1 I walk up and kind of like sidle up next to Teor just shoulder to shoulder and just kind of lean to him under my breath and just say,

Speaker 1 most beautiful

Speaker 1 but every quarter hour we tarry here puts a hectare between us and your brother and I elbow him in the ribs and just walk back up

Speaker 1 um you hear the clatter of my wings as I fly

Speaker 1 fly off to the Christian um

Speaker 1 you see that uh as you're sitting here tyranny and you've been this is place that feels so far from any demonic

Speaker 1 presence but as wick begins to eat, you see Shuffa, this massive shambling mound, comes and sits next to you, slightly beside Wick, and just sort of gestures its featureless torso in your direction.

Speaker 1 Tyranny is surrounded by a lot of good.

Speaker 1 And

Speaker 1 she extends her hand and places it, approximates where an ear would be and kind of scratches

Speaker 1 the size.

Speaker 1 You see, Shafa, you realize, earns his name as he goes

Speaker 1 and a bunch of leaves sort of fall out

Speaker 1 and

Speaker 1 leans against you in a kind of conspiratorial way where it seems to me that the shambling mound is like, we both work for the big guy.

Speaker 1 Cadigan, as you walk away, Wolfrick comes up to your side with his armor, and you see paws at his armor where it harnesses to his shoulder. And you see that there's a small rolled-up scroll there.

Speaker 1 Yeah,

Speaker 1 I take a look at it,

Speaker 1 put my head up against Wolfrick, and look at the scroll, and I

Speaker 1 unwind it and read it.

Speaker 1 A small note, quickly penned from Albed

Speaker 1 says,

Speaker 1 I cannot express

Speaker 1 how meaningful it is to have this knife returned.

Speaker 1 Nor can I express how many hidden treasures I discovered turning my house upside down in search of it.

Speaker 1 Yeah, the

Speaker 1 responses

Speaker 1 makes Kagan smile just a little bit bit because

Speaker 1 all the note said that he attached to it was just

Speaker 1 it's not just a keepsake, it's a relic.

Speaker 1 And

Speaker 1 what

Speaker 1 he received wrapped up in the note

Speaker 1 was

Speaker 1 just the

Speaker 1 finely ornate crafted pommel, the handle of the knife. The important part.

Speaker 1 Ah.

Speaker 1 And the full tang of the blade

Speaker 1 is in my pocket.

Speaker 1 You see the note continue.

Speaker 1 Having revealed that you have separated this magical blade from its ornate and beautiful handle,

Speaker 1 the note continues.

Speaker 1 Memory is a funny thing.

Speaker 1 I wept at the thought that I had lost something so dear, and in weeping, realized I had walked too far from those memories.

Speaker 1 The things I felt

Speaker 1 are dear to me, even when they hurt.

Speaker 1 I don't know what use the blade has for you,

Speaker 1 but my wife used it for many years to feed and care for us.

Speaker 1 I hope that you find it useful to feed and care for those near you. And I hope, dear friend,

Speaker 1 that you are fed and cared for.

Speaker 1 You are welcome to bathe in my stream at the drop of a hat at any time.

Speaker 1 Looking at the blade in your hand, I think you even feel a resonance, that humble little magic. You know, you don't describe your magic as being too advanced,

Speaker 1 but something in that blade, a little serrated thing, sharp and like Tyranny's claws.

Speaker 1 There's something there.

Speaker 1 Moving into the cave,

Speaker 1 you see Subri,

Speaker 1 who you can't even really tell what kind of fairy she is,

Speaker 1 but you see that she looks over and

Speaker 1 as Hawthorne says,

Speaker 1 you're certain.

Speaker 1 Is it possible that he would have ignored your... And you see Subri says, anything is possible, but

Speaker 1 I did.

Speaker 1 I did what we thought was right to do.

Speaker 1 I did what you had. And you see that Hawthorne sort of stands up a little bit and gets a little bit intense and goes,

Speaker 1 I made the advisement that we do this, and it was accepted by those here.

Speaker 1 You see that Subri says, then...

Speaker 1 Do you wish to tell the companions? And you see that she...

Speaker 1 And I think that she turns around and sees you approaching now and goes,

Speaker 1 tell us what?

Speaker 1 Your

Speaker 1 friend's brother has left already, heading north. But

Speaker 1 the magic that your companion wields is powerful, and it is a great aid

Speaker 1 to us here.

Speaker 1 Um

Speaker 1 another

Speaker 1 voice speaks out from not too far away, emerging from the shadows, and you turn and see

Speaker 1 shadows part like wet hair being moved from in front of an eye and stepping from the shadows.

Speaker 1 Bulbous, luminous eye like a predator.

Speaker 1 A

Speaker 1 woman dressed in rags, looking blue-gray like a long dead corpse.

Speaker 1 Wet skin, and you see there's

Speaker 1 mud and algae and reeds sewn throughout her hair. You can tell that if she walked into the water, her hair would spread out and look like lilies.

Speaker 1 She's got long fingers for grabbing on to people's throats. And as she steps out, she says,

Speaker 1 Her friends left, but

Speaker 1 Source of light has entered the camp, hasn't it?

Speaker 1 And you see Hawthorne turns to face this and says,

Speaker 1 This is Sallow.

Speaker 1 And you see that

Speaker 1 you regard a hag.

Speaker 1 You regard a hag before you.

Speaker 1 Sallow says,

Speaker 1 Splendid light. I would love to be introduced to this

Speaker 1 wielder of the light.

Speaker 1 You don't think

Speaker 1 he might

Speaker 1 profess some beneficent cause or creed, perhaps?

Speaker 1 Why do you ask?

Speaker 1 Well,

Speaker 1 it's always of interest, isn't it?

Speaker 1 Mortal magic wielders, after all, can sometimes spell disaster for the fair folk.

Speaker 1 I look over at Hawthorne. How is she reacting to this? Hawthorne stands there.
Give me an insight check.

Speaker 1 You can do so with advantage here.

Speaker 1 It's all fun and games still.

Speaker 1 Oh, that was almost an at 20. Almost.

Speaker 1 That is a 24.

Speaker 1 24 is very high.

Speaker 1 You see the sort of... You almost thought like, oh, maybe...
Maybe Rainbloom, maybe the big mushroom guy, is like second in command. You realize he's a major domo.
He's an assistant to Hawthorne.

Speaker 1 What's happening at at camp is it's Hawthorne's tree.

Speaker 1 There's Subri who seems to be uncomfortable with something that Hawthorne said or did,

Speaker 1 and then on the other side of Subri is Sallow. And that apparently, this is like angel and the demon.

Speaker 1 This is, yes, you're just looking, you just see a relationship pan out before you of Hawthorne being pulled in different directions.

Speaker 1 Right here.

Speaker 1 A buddy and a baddie.

Speaker 1 You see that

Speaker 1 Hawthorne says,

Speaker 1 I am not certain. Your business is your own.
You are safe here. Your friends are welcome, but they cannot stay.

Speaker 1 And they must be sworn to some degree of secrecy or

Speaker 1 or permit themselves. We have means of

Speaker 1 confusing their direction on their exit from the forest so that they would not easily find their way back here. If they will submit to that, then they are free to go.

Speaker 1 If that's what must happen, we should be out of here soon.

Speaker 1 We're looking for Sid.

Speaker 1 The lion folk you said passed through here.

Speaker 1 Hawthorne looks up. On that 24, something bad is being concealed from you.

Speaker 1 You see Subri's eyes look down.

Speaker 1 I kind of float a little closer.

Speaker 1 What happened to him?

Speaker 1 He left.

Speaker 1 You see, Subri looks out.

Speaker 1 Sallow smiles. And you see that as she smiles,

Speaker 1 even though she can kind of look from a distance like a mortal woman, the corner of her mouth goes almost to her ear when she smiles.

Speaker 1 We sent him to the Wraith Tree.

Speaker 1 What?

Speaker 1 Subri here

Speaker 1 is a bit of a soothsayer, a fortune teller, aren't you, Subri?

Speaker 1 I mean, her fortunes aren't real. They don't come true.

Speaker 1 You see that Subri, her eyes well up with tears. She just says, sometimes they do.

Speaker 1 And you see Sallow goes,

Speaker 1 it was Hawthorne's decision that any big folk that came through, rather than subjecting our people to

Speaker 1 wanton violence and execution,

Speaker 1 why

Speaker 1 invite all that bloodshed and we could send them to the tree

Speaker 1 and have a little bit of extra protection. Oh, fuck when?

Speaker 1 You, yeah, I think Cadigan appears. You're not, but I think we're all here together.
No, no, no, no. You're good.
Sorry. Cadigan, but you're

Speaker 1 stealthy fun.

Speaker 1 You want to be a stealth check and see if you're there? Yes. Yeah, give me a stealth check.
I wanted to be there so badly.

Speaker 1 Sorry, I wasn't invading the scene. No, no, no, you got it.
Sorry, no, it's good.

Speaker 1 Oh, Stealth, it's okay. Oh, actually, it's 18.
18, okay. He'd come over there to throw away another.
Oh, I think, I think, Cadigan, Cadigan, if you step out now, go for it.

Speaker 1 Yeah. I'll say what I said.
Yeah. When did this happen? They whip around.
Sallow vanishes into the shadows, is gone. And you see that Hawthorne looks out and says,

Speaker 1 You are not given entry to be here.

Speaker 1 Give me a dexterity saving throw. Sorry.

Speaker 1 Hey, not great.

Speaker 1 Jack is high, too. Give me one.
Give me one for Wolfrick as well. Oh, fuck.
12 for me.

Speaker 1 12 for me, 24 for Wolfrick. Wolfrick dodges to the side as you realize this lady's roots that you are standing right under drop down and pin you to the ceiling.
Wrong room.

Speaker 1 Everyone outside

Speaker 1 with, you got a fucking mouthful of strawberries and shit is popping off in the camera. Oh, fuck.
I'm sorry.

Speaker 1 Um, Hawthorne, Hawthorne turns and says,

Speaker 1 What are we to assume? That every outsider that comes here means a swell?

Speaker 1 Yeah, mostly. No, no, no, but he...
He's so fucking dumb. I'm an idiot.
He's just dumb. He's one with nature, but he doesn't know shit about us, okay?

Speaker 1 And listen, he never even goes around other people. Who's he gonna tell? You see that Hawthorne says,

Speaker 1 You have until before dark to make your way out of this camp, and I will say this:

Speaker 1 you would do well to remember what we have lost.

Speaker 1 I can

Speaker 1 feel on you how close you have become to their world and know that it bears its own risk.

Speaker 1 We will forget who and what we are. The door is shut.

Speaker 1 You see that she steps up into the roots and vanishes into the tree, ascending to be the tree itself as Subri looks out, wiping some tears from her eyes.

Speaker 1 Anyone who wants to arrive at the cave at this moment can do so as the roots gently let you down.

Speaker 1 Wick and I are riding him sidesaddle, of course, on a chef Sheffield. Oh, we don't have horses anymore.
No, no, on Shuffa? Oh, Shuffa.

Speaker 1 Oh, how big is Shuffa? Shuffa grew like 20 feet and has slightly diminished since that initial burst of magic and is now

Speaker 1 doing side paddles now. Of course.
It's like a big walking leaf pile. Oh, that's fun.

Speaker 1 This is very fun.

Speaker 1 It makes sense.

Speaker 1 He's drunk.

Speaker 1 He's always drunk. I got in trouble.
You're in trouble.

Speaker 1 Can I fly down a Subri

Speaker 1 as Cadogan drops down? Yeah.

Speaker 1 I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry.

Speaker 1 No.

Speaker 1 Your friend is right

Speaker 1 to

Speaker 1 be

Speaker 1 cross. We don't.

Speaker 1 Hawthorne is tasked with a terrible burden to keep this place safe. It will be.
I won't tell anyone. Neither will they.
She. You see, she looks up and says, I.

Speaker 1 I shouldn't.

Speaker 1 She looks up because you're under the roots of the tree. She says,

Speaker 1 Salo would speak with you on these matters if you wish to speak to her.

Speaker 1 I can I will say only what I did because it is common knowledge.

Speaker 1 A lion folk warrior came here,

Speaker 1 desperately fleeing.

Speaker 1 He asked for

Speaker 1 visions of what was to come. He was seeking to to make his way to a a place known as Gourmalay,

Speaker 1 where he had there

Speaker 1 a deed of title to a stronghome, and he had told us his plan was to petition the lord of that place that the deed had been given in

Speaker 1 an act of murder and should not be honored.

Speaker 1 He said also that he was searching for passage to the Far East, to

Speaker 1 old Obradimia,

Speaker 1 searching for his brother.

Speaker 1 He's not with his brother.

Speaker 1 He will not have known that.

Speaker 1 He will not have known that

Speaker 1 his brother was.

Speaker 1 I know that that the warrior who accompanies you outside is the brother of the one that we found here. He believes him to be

Speaker 1 far east, he said, working as a mercenary.

Speaker 1 Uh

Speaker 1 Where's the wraith tree? I gave...

Speaker 1 You should go and talk to Salo. I should say no more.

Speaker 1 But I...

Speaker 1 I gave a vision.

Speaker 1 You see her eyes wink.

Speaker 1 You see that she reaches her hands up, and as she does, she massages her scalp and slightly moves her bandana.

Speaker 1 And you can see the broken stumps of a fawn's horns

Speaker 1 as she massages them and you can see

Speaker 1 the burn marks of red hot iron that this soothsayer has suffered in the world of mortals greatly

Speaker 1 I did see something in the crystal.

Speaker 1 No matter what Sallow says, I do see things true sometimes.

Speaker 1 I...

Speaker 1 I thought I saw

Speaker 1 the

Speaker 1 young man

Speaker 1 past the edge of the forest. I do not know if it was a vision of the past or of things to come, but I saw him in the forest holding the scroll that he had come here with, that he had shown to me.

Speaker 1 He was either in possession of it

Speaker 1 some time ago, or perhaps I saw a vision of something to come. But he looked out at wide fields and rolling hills, old stone walls of the kinds that farmers keep in their old ways, and

Speaker 1 I saw a fluttering of crows' wings and him clapped in irons.

Speaker 1 Wagon wheels and a road.

Speaker 1 Oh no.

Speaker 1 I do get them right sometimes.

Speaker 1 I know.

Speaker 1 I mess this up, I'm sorry. But listen to me right now, please.
There are a few things I'm good for.

Speaker 1 You have to find out when he came through here. You have to.

Speaker 1 Stay on track. This is a hunt.
Yeah.

Speaker 1 Was it yesterday?

Speaker 1 It was...

Speaker 1 No, now two days ago. Which you guys realize because you guys went to all beds and played it safe and you said you're not playing.

Speaker 1 Do I hear them say this?

Speaker 1 that it was two days ago yeah supry says two days ago you we have to go what about salo you can go but it needs to be fast please for tele well she'll she'll tell me where it is

Speaker 1 suri nods and where's salo by the water's edge go go

Speaker 1 Outside, those of you who have not joined, you see Teor

Speaker 1 sitting out.

Speaker 1 What are you guys up to as this scene is unfolding? We're playing fetch with Shuffle.

Speaker 1 I just threw my cane. Google!

Speaker 1 Google!

Speaker 1 I have a question for you. Do you have any visible signs of the Candescent Creed still on your person? Uh-oh.

Speaker 1 Just all your cane.

Speaker 1 Everything. Anything I own?

Speaker 1 My cane has a big Candescent Creed symbol on it.

Speaker 1 You see, as you're playing Fetch with Shuffa, it's going back and forth.

Speaker 1 You see a bunch of these tiny little fairy children whose wings are too small to fly yet, and they have these little sort of toadstool toadstool hats on are running around towards your feet and you see that about a foot tall is this he's got a small rabier at his side grasshopper legs and antenna but otherwise sort of a handsome man's face he's got a small white shirt and a vest and a scroll on his back you see he looks over as he's walking off towards one of the like over you see there's a cart that looks like a traveling scholar's cart you see it has some like writing on the side saying like traveling professor you see that he looks over and goes,

Speaker 1 children, back away from him. Back away from him.
Oh, I'm sorry. Did I do something wrong?

Speaker 1 You bear a symbol that is not welcome here.

Speaker 1 Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know.

Speaker 1 Why? Why, may I ask? Why, indeed. And what have you told the people in the keeping of their old ways? Have you told them that it is not of the light to leave bread and milk for the small folk?

Speaker 1 To take down charms?

Speaker 1 No, I haven't told them that at all. Is that something? Is that so? And you say that here, surrounded by strawberries, freshly grown.
Well,

Speaker 1 he's the one who grew the strawberries.

Speaker 1 Why don't you just look around and see all the beautiful abundance?

Speaker 1 He did that. I wipe my face of all the strawberry juice.

Speaker 1 You see, we have friends here, right? Yes, well, the light giveth, yes. And you see that

Speaker 1 he turns around and you see, looks at the children who are kind of confused about what to do, and just

Speaker 1 shakes his head side to side and walks off towards the carriage.

Speaker 1 Is that something that you were taught was to not

Speaker 1 feed Faye? I don't know. Do is it my family's

Speaker 1 new religion check? Okay.

Speaker 1 Things of the old world.

Speaker 1 Uh, really good. 22.

Speaker 1 Uh,

Speaker 1 well,

Speaker 1 you know, you don't, on a 22, you don't, there's no rule against feeding fairies. I mean, there's there's rules about not

Speaker 1 propitiating

Speaker 1 false divinity. The only divinity is the light.
Of course. So you wouldn't want to.
You wouldn't want to propitiate or offer worship to someone else.

Speaker 1 And if someone demanded worship in like a safe bed bed or or food to and you start I think you start to do the math in your head of

Speaker 1 the poetry of

Speaker 1 the the hidden light the poetry of the text the reason

Speaker 1 you're suddenly going like oh

Speaker 1 that's the passage I would use if I wanted to tell people not to do that

Speaker 1 and I think there's a moment where you don't doubt that that fairy is telling the truth but you just go go, oh, that's not the intention behind the words.

Speaker 1 And then you sort of have to, I think out of 22, you have to question, well, that's not. Maybe it is.
Yeah.

Speaker 1 Or you go like, that's not the intention behind those words. Then you go, that's not my intention behind those words.

Speaker 1 Interesting.

Speaker 1 Teor, what are you doing? Teor

Speaker 1 is

Speaker 1 in a bit of self-imposed timeout.

Speaker 1 He walked into a china shop with the subtlety of a raging bull

Speaker 1 and is trying to keep a lower profile, is sort of walking down near the water, just also

Speaker 1 very passively looking for any signs of his brother, but without trying to intrude with looks or anything. And is also keeping a keen eye on where that little fuck Skinner is.
Yeah.

Speaker 1 Just making sure they don't cross

Speaker 1 paths again. And I think is just trying to

Speaker 1 put himself in his brother's pause.

Speaker 1 Why was he here? What did he see? What would he get from something like this? Where is he?

Speaker 1 Um, give me an investigation check

Speaker 1 19

Speaker 1 You're you look around

Speaker 1 I think on a 19 you're looking for Sid's stuff specifically

Speaker 1 you see that crystal glowing,

Speaker 1 and I think

Speaker 1 you

Speaker 1 are over by this moss bed where a lot of sick fairies are being tended to. You see, there's one of them.
As you approach, there's like an owl lying on

Speaker 1 the ground with a broken wing, but as it shifts, you realize that it's not an owl, it's a fairy who in that what you know howl in House of Moon Castle has the jacket over his shoulders.

Speaker 1 The wings of the owl are a jacket over this little fairy's shoulders.

Speaker 1 And there is a owl head with real owl eyes and a beak coming down, but it cuts at the edge of the feathers and becomes a jaw of like skin and normal teeth. So it's like this

Speaker 1 halfway between almost like puppet looking little owl fairy. But you do see that the wing, even though it looks like an article of clothing, is moving and is broken and is being tended to.

Speaker 1 As you get over to that area, you see a voice behind you goes,

Speaker 1 Come here to finish them off,

Speaker 1 and you turn around and see Skinner standing there.

Speaker 1 Come here to finish the job.

Speaker 1 I

Speaker 1 offered my apologies before.

Speaker 1 You defend this place with great verve and passion. I admire that.
I am sorry that I did not speak to

Speaker 1 seek to speak first.

Speaker 1 I want to open you up and put my hand in you. Come on now.

Speaker 1 You see.

Speaker 1 You see.

Speaker 1 You see?

Speaker 1 Honeysuckle flies over and goes, Skinner, stop it. Stop threatening to put your hat in people.

Speaker 1 And you see that she says, It's okay, what's your name, Mr. Sun man?

Speaker 1 My name is Teor, Pride Sire. That's beautiful.
I'm Honeysuckle. Thank you, Honeysuckle.
Your friend here, Skinner, he who puts his hand in people.

Speaker 1 Hat?

Speaker 1 My hat! Your hat.

Speaker 1 I put my hand on people. I put my hat in people.

Speaker 1 He has earned his

Speaker 1 angst.

Speaker 1 I see your

Speaker 1 friend here, though. They seem to be

Speaker 1 unwell.

Speaker 1 You see, honeysuckle nods and says, Yeah,

Speaker 1 yeah.

Speaker 1 Some of the sickness is hard to make go away when it comes from um

Speaker 1 not wood fire, but but deep fire,

Speaker 1 your dwarf fire

Speaker 1 under the earth,

Speaker 1 iron,

Speaker 1 soot and ash.

Speaker 1 It can be hard. The sickness, the the air makes your kind sick.

Speaker 1 Some of us, fairies from hearth, tend to do a little better, but for some of us that are supposed to be way out in the woods, it's a little harder. Um,

Speaker 1 but

Speaker 1 you have that, you have that light within you.

Speaker 1 I uh

Speaker 1 I do.

Speaker 1 If you will permit me, perhaps in a gesture of exchange, I would like to help if I can, then I'll reach my hand out and I'll put layon hands on the wing of this small creature and see if I can help mend that wing.

Speaker 1 I believe you can. Go ahead and give me a, even though you're putting five hit points in, go ahead and give me a medicine check because you'll heal the injury, but to see if you can set the wing.

Speaker 1 See if you can set the wing.

Speaker 1 That is...

Speaker 1 11. 11.
You see that you begin to heal. You set the bone in place, but you can tell that it's not going to be an immediate fix.
The bone, in other words,

Speaker 1 it was not going to ever heal because the bone was not connected. In connecting it, now there's time for it to grow together naturally over time, and the magic begins to start that seal.

Speaker 1 You see that the owl looks up at you and goes,

Speaker 1 oh,

Speaker 1 thank you kindly, sir. That's a kindness you've done.

Speaker 1 It's a pleasure and an honor. You're not a fairy at all.

Speaker 1 No, I'm afraid I am not. Take time and care to mend that.

Speaker 1 Right, that'll do. That'll do.
Stretches it. I don't mean to impose.

Speaker 1 I'm searching for one of my kin, someone who looks like me, and I hear they were here in your glade not too long ago. Did you see? You know, Sid,

Speaker 1 tell Sidmir, he he is my brother, yeah.

Speaker 1 I happened to talk with him for a little bit, as I done, uh, uh, two days ago.

Speaker 1 It's not a warm welcome you receive here for big folk, which

Speaker 1 I can imagine looking over at Skinner. Skinner looks over and says, That's right, keep one eye peeled, big man.
And you see

Speaker 1 that he

Speaker 1 honeysuckle says, Skinner, stop it. Looks over and says, Bye, Tayor.
You see that she looks over at Skinner and says, Would you be my best man?

Speaker 1 As she walks off, and

Speaker 1 you see that

Speaker 1 this creature uh uh this fairy looks over at you says no right i i spoke with him listen i work with big folk all the time i was only stopping on through here on my way to uh uh don makjar

Speaker 1 uh we've just come from tonmakyar

Speaker 1 oh

Speaker 1 well splendid i'll as soon as my wings healed up i'll i'll be on my way there and my brother when you spoke with him did he say uh where he was headed what he was uh doing how did he seem uh Well, he seemed,

Speaker 1 well, he wasn't in a good way. I mean, he didn't get a warm welcome here, but they were going to give him a vision.
He was off looking for.

Speaker 1 He needed to make his way. He was trying to talk to the local some Baron.

Speaker 1 He was trying to talk to some local Baron. But he had a.

Speaker 1 After that, I spoke with him because we had a mutual friend that I came up in conversation as he was there. Few people would go and talk to him.

Speaker 1 But we had a mutual friend in common that I'm actually on my way to go see. That he said might be dead by this point in time.
Although, I hope

Speaker 1 you mentioned The Azzi.

Speaker 1 That's who I'm off to see.

Speaker 1 Is he?

Speaker 1 I'm afraid so.

Speaker 1 Sid said it was all but a sure thing.

Speaker 1 Apparently, he was part of a plan to try and

Speaker 1 free him at the last moment. He was a great man.
I served with him for many years. How did how did you know him?

Speaker 1 I

Speaker 1 knew of him more or less through

Speaker 1 a connection at a place called the Arcanad. It's a museum in Dormakyar.
There's a board.

Speaker 1 Hold on a second now.

Speaker 1 It says, but I was coming with a letter for him because

Speaker 1 I know that

Speaker 1 Thiazzi worked with

Speaker 1 Thimble,

Speaker 1 who I don't know if

Speaker 1 she'd remember me, but I knew that she knew half the fairies in Dolmakiar.

Speaker 1 And

Speaker 1 I think we've spoken once or twice, if that. But

Speaker 1 she was working with Thiazzi on collecting a number of things. And Theazi had sent a letter off to

Speaker 1 a fellow I knew in Argosia

Speaker 1 about you see he says but

Speaker 1 he says you're are you a friend of Thimble's

Speaker 1 I am

Speaker 1 well I'm I'm Jauf nice to meet you

Speaker 1 Teor nice to meet you I'm a um I'm a uh he says uh uh you would recognize him as a Bauka which is a type of fairy that has a single animal form it can assume and change into um

Speaker 1 and uh you see he says

Speaker 1 bad luck to carry a dead man's letter and you see he says not to give you bad luck, but for Thimble, it'll maybe mean something.

Speaker 1 And he just gives you a small envelope that looks like he was delivering to the Arkana. He says,

Speaker 1 for better or worse, I think it was.

Speaker 1 Theazi liked to keep his distance from the people so that

Speaker 1 if what were to happen were to happen,

Speaker 1 fewer people all go down at once.

Speaker 1 Very, um,

Speaker 1 very careful of him. I will, um

Speaker 1 I'll be back in just a moment. It's all right.
I'll I'll be resting up, and and yeah, if if you let them know that I'm I'm here. Um

Speaker 1 uh you take off, you guys head to the lake. Um arriving at the lake

Speaker 1 um

Speaker 1 us two. Yes, Cadogan and

Speaker 1 they are the best partner you can ask for.

Speaker 1 Uh arriving at the lake,

Speaker 1 you see

Speaker 1 algae.

Speaker 1 As you approach,

Speaker 1 center of the algae begins to move and rise.

Speaker 1 Tall woman stands up.

Speaker 1 Hello, little one.

Speaker 1 A man.

Speaker 1 So loud.

Speaker 1 Better believe it.

Speaker 1 You look dirty with travel. Do you want to bathe? No, I like to be dirty.

Speaker 1 Give me persuasion.

Speaker 1 Maybe Thimble should be. I am not trying to.
Oh, no.

Speaker 1 It's just the way he said it. It's just the side effect.
It's just a side effect. That's pretty good.

Speaker 1 Or intimidation, depending on the fatwang you're putting on that. Intimidation is better, but I'll stick with persuasion since she said it is 18.
18. See, she looks and says,

Speaker 1 I

Speaker 1 would feel

Speaker 1 so much joy drowning you.

Speaker 1 Get on in, Kat.

Speaker 1 I just had a bath. Another time, Ranger.

Speaker 1 You've come to speak with me.

Speaker 1 Yeah.

Speaker 1 What can I do for you? Wraith tree.

Speaker 1 Where is it?

Speaker 1 Where did you sense it?

Speaker 1 Give me persuasion.

Speaker 1 Can

Speaker 1 Cat take his clothes off for adventure? Yeah, like you're right.

Speaker 1 But why

Speaker 1 is that not cocked?

Speaker 1 No, it was not cocked, but let's hear that one. No, it was it was a one that I rolled.

Speaker 1 You see, she looks at you and says,

Speaker 1 And

Speaker 1 why would I help you?

Speaker 1 Um

Speaker 1 because he's gonna he's gonna get in the waters because he's um

Speaker 1 trying to sacrifice me to this

Speaker 1 woman.

Speaker 1 Because

Speaker 1 we already lost one.

Speaker 1 I don't want to lose any more.

Speaker 1 What is it you don't want to lose?

Speaker 1 What is it you don't want to lose,

Speaker 1 little Pixie?

Speaker 1 Family?

Speaker 1 Terrible thing to lose family.

Speaker 1 I've heard it's absolutely precious to have.

Speaker 1 Why are you here?

Speaker 1 A place like this?

Speaker 1 You can exactly fit in.

Speaker 1 Don't I?

Speaker 1 Am I not a fairy? Because I'm not delightful.

Speaker 1 I'm as much a fae as any creature here.

Speaker 1 The deep, beating heart of the world knows shadow and light both, regardless of the chatterings of the fool who wanders with you.

Speaker 1 Something dear is what you pursue. Then it's something dear I'll have.

Speaker 1 You loved someone.

Speaker 1 I want something of theirs.

Speaker 1 A memory.

Speaker 1 Gone forever?

Speaker 1 Of course.

Speaker 1 Fairies.

Speaker 1 Little pixies are not great of stature.

Speaker 1 You need to make room.

Speaker 1 You don't have space in that heart for what you lost

Speaker 1 and the passion you'll need to get vengeance on those who took it from you.

Speaker 1 As a

Speaker 1 rogue,

Speaker 1 am I to assume

Speaker 1 that Thimble speaks Thieves Can't? I do.

Speaker 1 In her ear, quietly, in Thieves Can't

Speaker 1 I Will say,

Speaker 1 Tell her

Speaker 1 and tell me,

Speaker 1 and I will remind you.

Speaker 1 You taught me how to read

Speaker 1 and how to write.

Speaker 1 There was.

Speaker 1 I had trouble learning how to write his name.

Speaker 1 Every time I'd try to make the J, I'd have to back up. It was too much trouble.

Speaker 1 So I started calling him Thaz.

Speaker 1 You see,

Speaker 1 as you speak in the water around the hag's knees,

Speaker 1 you look and you see the door open.

Speaker 1 Theazzi walks in, a little wax paper bag filled with caramel, popped corn, some kind of street foods, like a little spice, like a tahin on it or something. He walks in.

Speaker 1 Who the hell is Thaz?

Speaker 1 That's... Well, that's you.

Speaker 1 It's...

Speaker 1 No one has called me Thaz since I was a kid. Oh, good, so someone else did so you're used to it

Speaker 1 Honestly

Speaker 1 For you and you alone we can go with that if anyone else calls me this in your ear shot right in the throat stab them, okay?

Speaker 1 Throat eyeballs ears just like you taught me one two three that's how it's done

Speaker 1 and you see suddenly

Speaker 1 That smell of that

Speaker 1 caramel and spice is gone

Speaker 1 and you don't remember that at all.

Speaker 1 Why did you ever call him Thadde? You were the only one who did.

Speaker 1 You see that Salah goes...

Speaker 1 Wonderful.

Speaker 1 The information you asked for

Speaker 1 I would not give

Speaker 1 without some acknowledgement that

Speaker 1 memories given deserve deserve

Speaker 1 memories new,

Speaker 1 perhaps something that you would not have seen before. And you look down in the water and just see a glimmer of

Speaker 1 a gloved hand sliding a massive bag of gold and a scroll over a table. And you see Casimir's face looking down.
As a voice says,

Speaker 1 I'm very happy to know that your loyalty can be so easily bought.

Speaker 1 And you see, Casimir looks out and says,

Speaker 1 What loyalty?

Speaker 1 Fuck the Aussie.

Speaker 1 There's no loyalty in this world worth speaking of.

Speaker 1 Be excited to see that smirk rubbed off his face when the rope snaps top.

Speaker 1 And the image

Speaker 1 fades.

Speaker 1 Just a voice, right? Just a voice. You see that Sallow goes.

Speaker 1 That memory was not as nice as yours.

Speaker 1 Follow the blooming jasmine. Past the promontory rock where the moss grows.
Take a right. The gulch will follow.
An hour or two's travel. You will begin to see.
The plants wither.

Speaker 1 The wraith tree lies at the end of that gulch.

Speaker 1 Hawthorne is a fool.

Speaker 1 The dead stalk this forest and they should not.

Speaker 1 I'm sure you thought me in all of my darkness.

Speaker 1 To be a believer of this strategy, I think it is a foolish one.

Speaker 1 We should not have sent Sid to go die at the Wraith Tree.

Speaker 1 But you have to understand,

Speaker 1 the spirit that dwells there

Speaker 1 animates the bodies of the forest come nightfall.

Speaker 1 And while the forest is stalked by the dead,

Speaker 1 big folk cannot find this glade.

Speaker 1 Even those sweet fairies of the light will make a devil's bargain if they have to.

Speaker 1 Good hunting. I hope your friend's not dead.

Speaker 1 And she sinks into the water.

Speaker 1 As soon as she fades into

Speaker 1 the pond and she dissipates, and it feels like it's safe for one moment, I'll just go to Thimba and I'll say,

Speaker 1 I promise you,

Speaker 1 I won't let you forget.

Speaker 1 But we have to fucking go. And I'm going to take off toward the direction of wherever I think my friends are.
Forget what?

Speaker 1 You guys.

Speaker 1 You guys. Even I'm like, why did you make it this sad?

Speaker 1 Fucking relax, dog. What's going on?

Speaker 1 The five of you rejoin with the information that Catherine now has.

Speaker 1 I was kind of running back towards they were when we were all. The sun is also getting low.
Let's go.

Speaker 1 And you can't stay here. Hawthorne has forbidden you.
so

Speaker 1 you're doomed.

Speaker 1 I will fill Teor in of everything that we know, pertinent information. You as well.

Speaker 1 What? Yeah. That's crazy.

Speaker 1 What? Perfect recap.

Speaker 1 He was sent to the to the raid tree.

Speaker 1 We must leave immediately. Yeah, well, we have to.
We can't stay here past dark. They're going to kick us out.
Yeah.

Speaker 1 And tons of the essence. I was given a letter of Theazi's here.

Speaker 1 Take this, but we must go.

Speaker 1 I will hold on to it too for you.

Speaker 1 Yeah, it's really a folded up piece of paper with a little wax seal on it. For you, it'd be like a poster that you could throw in your bag.

Speaker 1 Rolled up carpet. Rolled up carpet.

Speaker 1 You guys take off.

Speaker 1 Suddenly, without any ability to see Jaof, the sun's getting low.

Speaker 1 Traveling through the woods is going to be fucking... No, Shuffa.
You can't come with us. I have a daughter.

Speaker 1 Shuffle.

Speaker 1 Here's the deal. Shuffa's got a speed of 15.
Shuffle. No, Shuffle.

Speaker 1 You can't come with us. I just know first.
I put my knee up.

Speaker 1 Irradians. Yeah.

Speaker 1 Pat Shuffa on the head. We'll come back for you.

Speaker 1 Someday. I don't know if we can promise that.
I promise you. I'll come back for you someday.

Speaker 1 You see, Shuffle sort of like molts a bunch of leaves. A bunch of leaves turn like brown and autumnal on Sheffa's body.
It's this thing goes,

Speaker 1 go, and I land over.

Speaker 1 As soon as you leave out, you look over your shoulder and see it's forming a small idol of you out of

Speaker 1 clay.

Speaker 1 And you guys tear off into the woods. I'm going to need a survival check.
Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 1 You've got advantage, man. Well, I think Wolford is off on the right flank.
I'm off on the left flank, dark vision, dark vision with the

Speaker 1 light.

Speaker 1 Absolutely. Yeah.

Speaker 1 all right what do we do here

Speaker 1 not bad

Speaker 1 get good not great uh 16 was my highest 16

Speaker 1 9 16 you have exact directions you can make it there but your speed is lessened so as the sun is setting it's just a little bit harder it's it the quality of light keeps changing so fast in these hours of the day that finding the best pathway you're it's like to find a good pathway you need to be able to see some distance to what the terrain is doing ahead of you and as the sun gets lower that gets harder and harder to do yeah i cast light on my cane to shine shine the way you get light and what light does is it makes the area right around you safe and everything else fucking vanishes pure dark um

Speaker 1 so

Speaker 1 you guys continue forward into the dark Wraith tree.

Speaker 1 Some spirit that was mentioned here, and you realize that the early conversation you heard between Subri and Hawthorne,

Speaker 1 why would they send people here? They didn't want to kill them there. Someone said something about another protector,

Speaker 1 and you suddenly hear moans in the forest.

Speaker 1 You see a camp counselor put on a flashlight and go, Nah!

Speaker 1 Nah!

Speaker 1 No way!

Speaker 1 From deep, from deep memory.

Speaker 1 Just walking behind the bunks going, whoop!

Speaker 1 All right,

Speaker 1 scatter!

Speaker 1 As we're absolutely trucking

Speaker 1 through the woods, and

Speaker 1 we all sense this moan as we're running, just nonchalant Cadogan says,

Speaker 1 whatever you think is out there, it's worse. Keep moving.

Speaker 1 Point of clarification. Back at the at the Hawthorne's Glade, did we take a short rest? You took a short rest at Hawthorne's Glade.
Hey, so catch that. We took a short rest.

Speaker 1 Everybody short rest your characters. Helps a lot.
If you want to roll, though. Yeah, you have hit dice you want to roll? Yeah.

Speaker 1 Hell yeah.

Speaker 1 I don't have

Speaker 1 loop.

Speaker 1 I'll take a short rest.

Speaker 1 Confirm. It's it's right here.

Speaker 1 Short rest. Hey.
So you can roll

Speaker 1 this many.

Speaker 1 You have 25 hit points. Awesome.
So you can roll 1d8 plus 4 and you're back to full. Fuck you.
Yeah.

Speaker 1 Uh-huh. Oh, God, and I meant to ask, but there wasn't time for me to say it.
As you were going through the forest,

Speaker 1 did I have... Never mind, it's too late.
What?

Speaker 1 Why? I was going to say, did I spot any like foxglove or prickly poppy as we had been going through the forest before we got, you know, like in any of our tracks today? Very possibly so, yeah.

Speaker 1 I think be

Speaker 1 plenty more as well. Yes, for sure.

Speaker 1 You guys had your short rest, surge through on that 16, you continue moving and have that thought in your head, sending people to the Wraith Tree. As you hear the shuffling and groans, you realize

Speaker 1 perhaps whatever's waiting here

Speaker 1 takes whatever bodies it creates and adds them

Speaker 1 to the force that will visit the next victim.

Speaker 1 Maybe you'll be joining that wonderful army right now.

Speaker 1 Oh man, we're running.

Speaker 1 I've run a bitter.

Speaker 1 Oh my god. Alright, which one of these guys? Who's gonna say we're gonna be able to do that? Well, surely we can be better this time.

Speaker 1 Surely we can do better this time.

Speaker 1 Whoa.

Speaker 1 Here we go.

Speaker 1 Let's just talk to them again. I'm sure they'll listen this time.

Speaker 1 Did our minis go away? What's that? Did our minis go away? No, you have them. No, we threw more.

Speaker 1 Their one-time use? Yep. Wow, that tree.
Hell yeah. Okay.
Can't repeat all tricks. Um,

Speaker 1 uh, hell yeah. Uh, we'll put you guys here.
What's your marching order?

Speaker 1 Wait.

Speaker 1 Oh, we have. Uh, no, actually, I'm not in the lead.

Speaker 1 I was in the middle because I was lighting back.

Speaker 1 You were lighting up. You were probably upwards.
Dead center.

Speaker 1 Dead center. Okay, then I was front and center.
What about lighting up in front of him?

Speaker 1 I would actually say that for like formation order, I would probably be in the back, making sure that there's no one behind us. Speaking of formation! Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 Okay, and you're front and center, Thimble. Yes, I guess I was.

Speaker 1 Oh, I could be front and center. No, no, no, it's fine.
You're I thought those guys were flanked to the left and right. Yeah, in the front.
And Thimble were in the middle.

Speaker 1 And they were behind, And everybody else was behind you.

Speaker 1 Oh, okay. So you guys, but you're in the back.
I am. I'm.
Yes. Okay, in the front of the back.
Yeah, that's the front.

Speaker 1 We're all bunched up, ready to die. Yeah.
Got it. Okay.

Speaker 1 We can spread it. We can spread it out.

Speaker 1 Spread it out a little bit.

Speaker 1 Above table, have any of you real human beings ever been in like a deep forest at night? Yeah, oh, yeah. It's very scary.

Speaker 1 Right, recommend it.

Speaker 1 Just to appreciate what you're doing.

Speaker 1 Hell, yes. As you guys enter, you see

Speaker 1 deep in the forest

Speaker 1 a

Speaker 1 writhing mass of dead vines.

Speaker 1 There is something here that killed this tree. And I think, and well, you look up and realize that the tree that is dead here

Speaker 1 once

Speaker 1 the forest. You're looking at the corpse of an awakened tree,

Speaker 1 and

Speaker 1 the one who killed it

Speaker 1 appears in shadow before you.

Speaker 1 Uh oh. Oh,

Speaker 1 he seems chill.

Speaker 1 Looking down at you.

Speaker 1 We were stealthy, right? With our bright lights.

Speaker 1 No, no, no, we were in the middle.

Speaker 1 You see. Time table.

Speaker 1 The

Speaker 1 figure floating in the glade. Floating?

Speaker 1 Right here. Cool.
Floating by the tree. It looks up.
Looks right at you, Thimble.

Speaker 1 You should not have come.

Speaker 1 Raises a hand and shapes begin to emerge from the wood line all around you.

Speaker 1 I'm going to need everybody here to tell me their initiative that they rolled.

Speaker 1 What did we get, Cat again? 18. What did we get, wick?

Speaker 1 16. 16.
What did we get, Tyranny? 9.

Speaker 1 What did we get, Thimble? 27.

Speaker 1 Oh, babe!

Speaker 1 What did we get, Tayor? Uh, 8.

Speaker 1 9. Oh, okay.
Thimble,

Speaker 1 cat,

Speaker 1 wick.

Speaker 1 Thimble, cat, wick, tyranny, taor.

Speaker 1 Uh, ta-da-da.

Speaker 1 Okay.

Speaker 1 Unsurprisingly, Thimble, you are first to go.

Speaker 1 How far does the range of your light extend on your body? Or do you have dark vision? I don't have dark vision. Yeah.

Speaker 1 My light is casting

Speaker 1 some way. Yes.
Let me know how let me how this is this is important for this battle. How big is the light you are casting? 20 foot radius.
Okay. And dim light for another 20 feet.
So that's 40 feet.

Speaker 1 Great.

Speaker 1 Okay.

Speaker 1 And that's emanating from me. It's emanating from 40 feet from you? Yes.
Okay. 20 feet and then 40 feet past you.
So, uh, gotcha. Um

Speaker 1 uh

Speaker 1 in the dim light you can see shapes uh

Speaker 1 moving towards you but thimble you are first to act go ahead give me a perception check actually as the combat begins um

Speaker 1 uh

Speaker 1 uh 24

Speaker 1 okay 24 perception um

Speaker 1 in that

Speaker 1 area of dim light

Speaker 1 you see some shapes clambering towards you.

Speaker 1 These are the closest.

Speaker 1 You see corporeal undead, but

Speaker 1 you see they look to be

Speaker 1 like the rags on them seem to indicate that they were poachers or smugglers in life. But

Speaker 1 at a flick of the

Speaker 1 hooded figure's hand, they

Speaker 1 animate around you.

Speaker 1 The wounds that they bear, many of them, you can see are the wounds that they are soon to deliver to you. For indeed, this is

Speaker 1 many of these bodies look like they were rent asunder by human hands. Jaws pulled by hands,

Speaker 1 bodies, manuals, stomachs pulled open. Grape, grape, grape, grape,

Speaker 1 somebody didn't trim their fingernails.

Speaker 1 These are moving from the dim light around you. Oh, boy, oh boy.
That guy's missing parts of his back.

Speaker 1 Oh god.

Speaker 1 Can we see the wraith from where we're at or is the moon just fixed?

Speaker 1 As the sun sets, he is in total darkness because I believe he is more than 40 feet from Wick.

Speaker 1 I could be wrong about that, but let me double check.

Speaker 1 And then, yes, so let me see. Here's Wick.

Speaker 1 Yeah, so the so in the last bit of light, the wraith fully manifested as the forest plunged into darkness, especially as, you know, Wick's lantern makes all of this fucking vanish into darkness.

Speaker 1 It's that thing of, again, having a lantern or a light in the dark makes everything, like, just, you know, the void.

Speaker 1 That is going to... So, Thimble, yes, it is your turn.

Speaker 1 So wait, how many bogies can you see? None? Bogeys?

Speaker 1 Okay. Thimble can see all the ones I just placed.

Speaker 1 Because they are all within dim light, you guys, right now, it's sort of like Thimble clocks them exactly. You guys are like, ah, shit moving in the dark.

Speaker 1 But there's enough sort of ambient light that you can sense shapes.

Speaker 1 And I'm about 10 feet off the ground as usual. As usual, correct.

Speaker 1 Okay, I am going to

Speaker 1 fly up

Speaker 1 in the air, so I'm out of range, hopefully, of most of these.

Speaker 1 Zibbity Zambale!

Speaker 1 And I'm going to cast...

Speaker 1 I'm going to light up with the light of the moon stone that I had had been near and the radiant magic that had been filling me when I was in that cave and that pale blue

Speaker 1 whitish glow of the crystal is gonna spread from my wings as I spin around and I'm gonna cast fairy fire. Hell yes.

Speaker 1 With a 20 foot radius

Speaker 1 kind of in front of me. I want to try to get everything close to the tree and on the ground around it.
Hell yeah. Do your people just call it fire?

Speaker 1 I'm going to spread some Pixie Des Love.

Speaker 1 Some Pixie Poppers. Yeah.
Cherry fries. Cherry fries, yeah.

Speaker 1 Oh my god. Okay, so he's got to make a dexterity saving throw.
What is your difficulty class? What's with DC?

Speaker 1 Is it really that low? Jeez, Loee. This is what I was saying last time.
Why is it so low?

Speaker 1 We're level three.

Speaker 1 It's a terrible thing. It's going to be be fine, it's gonna be fine, it's gonna be fair.
These are squishy old zombies, it'll be just fine. Why is it so low? Are you just dropping on him?

Speaker 1 No, I'm it's it's it's in a 20-foot radius of any creatures that are in that

Speaker 1 gotcha.

Speaker 1 Okay,

Speaker 1 uh, DC 10,

Speaker 1 yeah, or Dex 10, Dex 10. Gotcha.
Okay, um,

Speaker 1 uh,

Speaker 1 the the fairy fire you cast forward,

Speaker 1 um, the fairy fire you cast forward

Speaker 1 hits

Speaker 1 towards there and vanishes into the darkness of the wraith.

Speaker 1 It does not light anything on the ground surrounding within like 10 feet of that wraith is not there. What's the radius on fairy fire though?

Speaker 1 It's a 60-foot range, but a 20-foot radius. Okay, so within that 10-foot radius of the wraith, there is no sparkling whatsoever.
However, you do manage to hit

Speaker 1 two zombies sort of farther away from him. Oh, there's more.

Speaker 1 Who fail their save, and therefore you get the advantage on them. Right.
What about the little guy on the ground over here, too? He's at the base of the tree. What about

Speaker 1 he is out of range of the 20-foot radius? If you were centering on the Wraith, it would have been... I was centering it.
I wasn't centering it on the Wraith. Gotcha, gotcha.

Speaker 1 Okay, in that case, let me roll for him as well. You got him as well.

Speaker 1 Hell yeah. Nice.
Hell yeah. Nice.
And we can all see those creatures now, right?

Speaker 1 They're lit up. They emit a dim light now, so you can see them within 10 feet.
Nice. And you get advantage on attacks against them.
A fellow practitioner of the light, I see. About it.

Speaker 1 Knock over one of them.

Speaker 1 Look at that. Look at that, baby.

Speaker 1 Bring me a shelf wall. Let's go.

Speaker 1 Kerrigan, you're on deck, by the way. Thimble.
Great. Any bonus actions from you or anything else? I don't think I can do anything else.
That's enough. Oh, but I'm going to hide.
Okay. Go ahead.

Speaker 1 You're going to shimmy into the leaves of that tree next to you. Give me a stealth stealth check okay

Speaker 1 yeah you're tiny aggressively um 18 no wait that's a lie that's 16 plus 9

Speaker 1 25 25 that's way better um so you see that as these undead lurch towards you here by this rotting necrotic tree uh that the zombies lurch forward and you've seen effectively you take all of the glow on you and put it out there because you are fucking gone it's just

Speaker 1 all this moonlight and crystal magic shoots off you, hits these three zombies that are marching towards you and you are in the branches of that tree completely obfuscated.

Speaker 1 All of your internal glow is like dimmed. You're a shadow.

Speaker 1 Incredible. Cadigan, that is you.
Great.

Speaker 1 At the top of the turn, Wolfrick knows exactly what to do. So he rips around straight to Cadogan's side like a well-trained canine right between his legs.
And

Speaker 1 Cadogan just goes, now's the time. And they put their they go forehead to forehead.

Speaker 1 It's really quick and you can just feel this energy between them and that empty quiver that has been on Wolfrick's side the whole time starts to glow faintly and Cadogan's weapon starts to glow faintly and in that quiver this single bolt of white energy appears and there is one bolt magical bolt inside of this quiver and then then they push together as quickly as they can, and another red one starts to form,

Speaker 1 but it just doesn't happen.

Speaker 1 It just fucking fizzles out. And there's just the one magical bolt inside the quiver and they break away and Cadogan just goes,

Speaker 1 good boy.

Speaker 1 And Wolfrick takes off into the woods. And Cadogan is, who's the nearest enemy? This guy on the right?

Speaker 1 This guy. Yes.
No, to me oh to you

Speaker 1 probably this guy on the right yeah probably this guy on the right over here yeah yeah yeah uh he's gonna look like he's gonna close the gap to pull out his club and melee

Speaker 1 and instead as he's running toward it out of his back he pulls just a regular wooden bolt

Speaker 1 and for the first time ever you see what this weapon is. It's not just a club.
It's not just a blade. It's an adolateral handle.
And carved into the notch of the wood is an adelateral handle.

Speaker 1 And he tucks it at the same time, hurls this thing as hard as he can at the nearest zombie. Hell yeah.
Regular melee attack, nothing magical about it. Never seen one throw.
See what happens.

Speaker 1 Hell yeah. Give me your attack roll, baby.
Pretty decent.

Speaker 1 17 plus.

Speaker 1 That is a hit. Okay, cool.

Speaker 1 And then I.

Speaker 1 1d8, not great, but it is what it is.

Speaker 1 7 plus

Speaker 1 4,

Speaker 1 eleven points of piercing damage.

Speaker 1 Hell yes.

Speaker 1 You surge forward.

Speaker 1 You're back as you've approached North Antimony.

Speaker 1 This is not your first time facing the dead in the dark forest.

Speaker 1 This bolt lodges itself, and you can just see, even with their undead animation, muscle is still muscle, sinew is still sinew.

Speaker 1 And you pin deep into the thigh, like right into the in between where the groin meets the leg, shredding muscle and sinew. This thing hobbles to one side, still up, but lurching badly.

Speaker 1 You have bloodied this thing in a single hit as it lurches towards you.

Speaker 1 Which one did you hit?

Speaker 1 This guy's right over here.

Speaker 1 Hell yeah.

Speaker 1 That is going to be...

Speaker 1 It continues to lurch forward, however. Any bonus actions from that?

Speaker 1 No, I'll just consider Wolfrick's movement the bonus action on that because we didn't employ his quiver reload, which is what it would be.

Speaker 1 But I'll say this for you and for the nerds, since this is a cooked-up weapon that we worked on, it is reduced range from a bow, so it's not, I think it's 30-60 for a bow, is that right?

Speaker 1 You're the OG archer, right? This weapon, because of its versatility, is a little nerfed in range, so it's 20-40. Gotcha.
So I got to get within 20 feet to make the dart throw. And that ends my turn.

Speaker 1 Yeah, hell yeah. To make the dart throw.

Speaker 1 Wick, that is you, my friend

Speaker 1 um I am a cleric of the light

Speaker 1 and and as a cleric I will activate my innate sorcery

Speaker 1 my eyes glow um

Speaker 1 just sort of overcome with the pressure uh and danger of the moment. I look at tyranny,

Speaker 1 unsure of what I'm doing. I've never really been in a fight before.
Your eyes are glowing.

Speaker 1 They are?

Speaker 1 Oh my goodness.

Speaker 1 My eyes start glowing white, and I will charge forward, trying to make her proud of me. And I'll bound forward and try to get these two glowy guys here in a cone in front of me.

Speaker 1 Wait, so we're going to go 5, 10, 15, 20, 25. I think I'm going to go to the next one.
I'm going to get right up next to him and go 30.

Speaker 1 I think so because it's a 15 foot cone and I'd like to hit both of them. Yeah, let's see.
If that's, if I can.

Speaker 1 We're going to call that 15. Okay.
Yeah, for sure. And I will cast...
I don't...

Speaker 1 I don't... I don't hurt people.
I don't like to hurt people. You're now, bitch.

Speaker 1 I disagree!

Speaker 1 And from my cane,

Speaker 1 that's emitting light, the light will sort of...

Speaker 1 increase and bubble out into

Speaker 1 into

Speaker 1 a prismatic

Speaker 1 other colors that will dance around in front of me and I will cast color spray on these two and attempt to blind them.

Speaker 1 Hell yes. Great.

Speaker 1 What is the save that they make for color spray? Constitution 15. Let's go.

Speaker 1 The one at the far end is just almost outside enough that it makes the save, but the one right in front of you gets the full dose of it. Okay, so he or she or they

Speaker 1 are blinded.

Speaker 1 Let's see here. What does it say?

Speaker 1 Until the end of your next turn. That's right.
They're blind. Hell yes.

Speaker 1 You see this one?

Speaker 1 This one fucking zombie in front of you has fairy fire and color spray. This is the most Technicolor Dream zombie.

Speaker 1 Joseph's

Speaker 1 and is now

Speaker 1 fully blinded.

Speaker 1 Incredible.

Speaker 1 That is your bonus action. That's everything.
That's everything.

Speaker 1 You hear.

Speaker 1 The sun will never rise again.

Speaker 1 What? And...

Speaker 1 What was that? Well, did you ever want to hear that?

Speaker 1 Oh, God. This guy's so fast.
That's not good. Oh god, the Wraith

Speaker 1 is going to descend right here

Speaker 1 and is going to attack

Speaker 1 Wick directly. Don't worry, they can't see me.

Speaker 1 That is a six.

Speaker 1 I've blinded them all.

Speaker 1 One.

Speaker 1 One second.

Speaker 1 Oh, boys.

Speaker 1 A lot of math. Oh, yeah.

Speaker 1 I need more dice. Sorry.
I should have cast this slide here before the light started.

Speaker 1 Not a problem. I need more dice.

Speaker 1 I should have casted the protected light before it started. The stress is making me need to go pee.

Speaker 1 Go for it.

Speaker 1 Hurry up, baby.

Speaker 1 Wait. Oh, no, no, no, okay.
You already went. You already went.

Speaker 1 Don't worry, it'll all be on protecting it. Yeah.

Speaker 1 Uh

Speaker 1 Wick, you take wait, did you roll to hit? Yes, and I hit. What did you roll? Uh, what did I roll on the die? I just, what did you roll? Yes!

Speaker 1 Uh, uh, I rolled, uh, does a

Speaker 1 14 hit. Oh,

Speaker 1 it would if I wouldn't, if I didn't cast shield and block it. Incredible.

Speaker 1 Uh,

Speaker 1 Shield raises your armor class to what?

Speaker 1 17.

Speaker 1 18 damage.

Speaker 1 Was coming your way.

Speaker 1 18 damage with a

Speaker 1 stipulation, as this hand reaches out to you,

Speaker 1 you can tell that this attack

Speaker 1 on a...

Speaker 1 you are before you shield the attack coming to you

Speaker 1 this damage not only is necrotic damage it lowers your HP maximum with each hit.

Speaker 1 If your HP maximum is ever lowered to zero, you are instantly killed. Oh.

Speaker 1 I would like to

Speaker 1 lodge a four-book of blade.

Speaker 1 Yes. Just let it be known.
I object to this. I object to this.

Speaker 1 So, Vick, as you're creating light, pure darkness comes to you, raises a hand.

Speaker 1 And you can see see that as you boom, these glyphs emerge. As they do, the

Speaker 1 this guttural thing

Speaker 1 in defiance of whatever happened earlier today, where you find this moment of deep belief to make everything grow, this is just a ha! And a pure primal wing of light

Speaker 1 just bats this thing out of the way as a.

Speaker 1 And you see that this Wraith's hand is severed

Speaker 1 through the forearm. No matter grows another one from pure shadow and smoke

Speaker 1 right away.

Speaker 1 Tyranny,

Speaker 1 death itself now comes for Wikander Halovar. It is your turn.

Speaker 1 Quick question.

Speaker 1 Is there anything going on

Speaker 1 between demons and the undead?

Speaker 1 Is there any stuff that I should know? Like a lion thug?

Speaker 1 I don't know. Maybe they'll like me?

Speaker 1 The reality is this.

Speaker 1 Give me a religion check. Oh, fuck.
You have to, like,

Speaker 1 you got to know your own stuff. Yeah.
You can go with advantage, too.

Speaker 1 Oh, cool. Almost dumb points.
Two?

Speaker 1 And a one?

Speaker 1 Honestly, undead and demons are the best of friends.

Speaker 1 I mean, you're basically the same, right? What the fuck is the difference? All these fucking nerds, taxonomy, what the fuck am I?

Speaker 1 We're all monsters out here.

Speaker 1 They're all gonna live in the pit. Yeah.
Eventually.

Speaker 1 Alright, I'm gonna come for the big guy.

Speaker 1 And I am going to cast Scorching Ray. Nice.

Speaker 1 Nice.

Speaker 1 Ooh, I'm gonna do all three of them. Hell yeah.
Yeah. Go ahead and give me three attack rolls.

Speaker 1 14, 4, and 11. Plus, is there any? Yep, there's pluses.
Oh yeah.

Speaker 1 Scorching Ray plus plus 7.

Speaker 1 Okay, 18, 14, plus 7. That's a lot.
And 7, 8, 19, 10, 11. 21.

Speaker 1 So what are your three final rolls? 11? 21 and 18? Yeah, I think so. 21 and 18 hit.
Two of your scorches connect.

Speaker 1 Go ahead and roll damage. That'll be 4d6.

Speaker 1 These palisons

Speaker 1 dice.

Speaker 1 Okay, a 5 and a 6. Woo! And

Speaker 1 a 3 and a 2.

Speaker 1 5, 6, 3, 2, 11,

Speaker 1 Um

Speaker 1 uh

Speaker 1 death no, no, I was supposed to be good friends. But I will.
It's not great. Uh death looms over Wickander.
Uh, Tyranny, as you summon this fire.

Speaker 1 Uh, uh, so yeah, all of this aspirant shit is gone. Fire eyes.

Speaker 1 And

Speaker 1 you see fire.

Speaker 1 Uh, tattered shrouds of necrotic fabric

Speaker 1 catch fire, and you can see that you do successfully injure this wraith.

Speaker 1 As it turns to gaze at you, two pinpoints of red light flash out from the shadowy hood.

Speaker 1 That is your action. Any bonus action from you? Any movement from you as well? Yeah, I'm coming up to join Wick.

Speaker 5 And

Speaker 1 that's it, baby. Hell yeah.

Speaker 1 You rush to get into melee. Any bonus action?

Speaker 1 I have my claws. Oh, you have your claws out.
Great, perfect. Great, great, great.

Speaker 1 I can attack as a bonus.

Speaker 1 No, I don't think, because you cast a spell. Yeah.

Speaker 1 So, Tyrion, that is your turn. Tayor Pride Sire, that is you.

Speaker 1 Yeah, you'll.

Speaker 1 Now that I see that Wick is in

Speaker 1 Samira about the middle of the city.

Speaker 1 You want to hex this Wraith? Yeah, go for it. Yeah.
Hell yeah. He won't take.
It's necrotic, which he probably won't take, but he gets a disadvantage. And that's a cantrip.
Yeah.

Speaker 1 I love it.

Speaker 1 So, wait, it's necrotic damage that you deal. Yeah.
And this. And I do get to pick a disadvantage.
Oh, yeah. What kind of disadvantage do you want to give?

Speaker 1 Dex?

Speaker 1 Well,

Speaker 1 can I pull the team?

Speaker 1 Dex? Dex. Let's say decks.
I love it.

Speaker 1 Hell yes.

Speaker 1 So you are going to,

Speaker 1 and this is, you're, are you Hexblade subclass or no? Or what is this? I am Pact of the Blade now.

Speaker 1 New rules. Pact of the Blade.
Gotcha. Cool, cool, cool.

Speaker 1 Great. So he has disadvantage on Dexterity.

Speaker 1 I love that. Not speaking.
Teor, that is your turn.

Speaker 1 Yeah, I will rush forward seeing that Wick is in danger now.

Speaker 1 My charge, my oath in my head, and you'll feel this

Speaker 1 a rush of wind

Speaker 1 and just a blur

Speaker 1 will jump forward and you'll see this flash of like golden metal

Speaker 1 as I pull this solid flail out from beneath my cape, but you hear it go tink, tink, tink, tink as it kind of like

Speaker 1 disconnects along the shaft and I will swing down this flail on top of where this wraith is. Hell yes.
Is it a magic flail or is it a regular flail? It's just a regular, regular flail.

Speaker 1 This is an awesome flail. This is a badass flail.
Just a badass flail. Wait, I have your flail.

Speaker 1 You're going this side too. I have your flail.
What do you mean? You gave it it back. I gave it back.
I gave it back.

Speaker 1 Interestingly enough, you gave it back.

Speaker 1 That's amazing. That is

Speaker 1 22 to hit. 22 is a hit.
Amazing.

Speaker 1 I am going to also use my bonus action to, in that arc,

Speaker 1 pump a paladin smite, a divine smite, into this hit

Speaker 1 as well. So I'll do the 1d8

Speaker 1 S2 first, which is not gonna. I'm gonna use, I have this ability, Savage Attacker to re-roll this damage die, which is a one, which is total ass.
Nice. That's seven on the flail hit.

Speaker 1 Seven plus, what's your strength?

Speaker 1 Strength is

Speaker 1 plus two. Okay.
Gotcha. Awesome.

Speaker 1 So you deal

Speaker 1 nine points of bludgeoning damage, and let's calculate the smite now. Yes, the paladin's smite, which I will use.

Speaker 1 2d8 radiant damage plus an additional D8 if the target is a fiend or an undead. Ooh, dead.

Speaker 1 Nice, nice.

Speaker 1 That's a good one.

Speaker 1 Wait, don't you get to re-roll that one? No, I only get to do it once per turn.

Speaker 1 13 points of radiant damage.

Speaker 1 You see

Speaker 1 that radiant damage of the things that pass through here.

Speaker 1 You can see that, like, that as your flail comes out, once again, this light comes to you.

Speaker 1 wick looking at tear in this moment he once again summons the light into himself in a way that defies explanation to you

Speaker 1 boom that flail connects and you see that uh the wraith puts up a hand and it passes through and collides with the darkness in the center of his chest

Speaker 1 and for a moment you see a gaunt skeletal shrieking face illusion it's the first time you've seen a face under the hood

Speaker 1 in that moment of light shrieking pain and torment, that radiant damage really scored a hit on this

Speaker 1 creature.

Speaker 1 And then, as a feature of the weapon mastery using the flail, it has a sap feature where if you hit a creature with a flail, the creature has disadvantage on its next attack roll before the start of my next turn.

Speaker 1 Hell. Okay.
Yes.

Speaker 1 Awesome.

Speaker 1 That is going to be the undead surrounding you.

Speaker 1 What's up with all the light, you guys?

Speaker 1 We're all just cycling off ancients. What's your story?

Speaker 1 We're the good guys. Wow.

Speaker 1 1520. Not ego.
Not either.

Speaker 1 One of the zombies shambles and closes into melee, but has to use its action to dash. Their speed is very slow, but still closes on Wick.
The other is going to take an attack. Which one?

Speaker 1 This one here.

Speaker 1 Oh!

Speaker 1 Let's see. That was a gnat.
18 on the dice

Speaker 1 and a 4 on the dice.

Speaker 1 He takes a while, Day Maker, and misses.

Speaker 1 This one is going to

Speaker 1 thud to the ground.

Speaker 1 This one also closes around Wick,

Speaker 1 but doesn't, yeah, but does not have the movement necessary to

Speaker 1 I'm hearing voices again.

Speaker 1 Ah, his name is Nick.

Speaker 1 My mistake.

Speaker 1 My middle name is actually Nick. Wick.

Speaker 1 Wickander, Nick. Nikander, Nick.

Speaker 1 Wickander, Nicholas. Hey, Levar.

Speaker 1 Okay.

Speaker 1 Um, two are taking attacks on Wolfrick. What's his armor class?

Speaker 1 Um, who on the pups? I'm pretty sure it's 15, but let me double-check just so I'm not wrong.

Speaker 1 Okay,

Speaker 1 yeah, it is 15. Okay,

Speaker 1 that is two hits for four,

Speaker 1 and then nine damage as they rough jobs

Speaker 1 begin to, and you see, they just fight. One of them just collapses on top of Wolfrick, getting his arms around it, begins to gnaw into the jaw of the wolf.

Speaker 1 Uh, and uh, as that happens,

Speaker 1 moving in from the tree line even more undead. Oh, yeah.
Entering into dim light. Some lots of lunde.
Dim light.

Speaker 1 And you see out just in the area of the dim light, even another

Speaker 1 zombify begins to lope. We need to find out.
In this tree, do we need to be doing something more than this fucking wraith? What are we doing?

Speaker 1 That is the zombie's turn. However, I cannot indicate how much worse the next zombie turn is going to be, given how many of them had to spend their turn closing distance, which they now have.
Oh, God.

Speaker 1 That is going to be Thimble's turn.

Speaker 1 I don't hurt people.

Speaker 1 From my vantage point within the branches, did I could I tell if the non-magical damage was doing anything to the Wraith?

Speaker 1 Then it what? Nothing that has happened to the Wraith has been ineffective. Okay.
The radiant damage was effective. Yes.
Okay, okay, okay.

Speaker 1 Then from up above, I will fly down behind the Wraith and like charging with my new giant blade, I'm going to try to ram it into the side of the head for a sneaking. Hell yes.

Speaker 1 Go for it.

Speaker 1 Okay.

Speaker 1 Go for it. Go ahead and give me an attack roll.
And there's no, I don't think you're getting advantage on this unless actually you could flank. Yeah, I'll flank so that I can.
Hell yeah. Go ahead.

Speaker 1 Go ahead and give me your attack roll. Ogie-doki!

Speaker 1 Oogie-doki!

Speaker 1 Seems fine. Okay.

Speaker 1 18?

Speaker 1 18. 18 is a hit.
Yes. Okay.

Speaker 1 And here's where something very cool happens. Because...

Speaker 1 There's no cheese here. You guys took a short rest, which is as long as you need to attune to a new magical weapon.

Speaker 1 And you had no idea going into this fight that this would be the case. You made the choice totally on your own.
Uh, the toy sword, as all been said, was given to his daughter to get rid of nightmares

Speaker 1 and other

Speaker 1 things and deals an extra 2d6 damage to incorporeal foes.

Speaker 1 Yes, so you will roll an extra 2d6

Speaker 1 on this attack.

Speaker 1 Did not know that until you used it.

Speaker 1 So cool.

Speaker 1 That's so cool.

Speaker 1 See,

Speaker 1 that's a total of 5d6 because of the sneak attack, too. Because the sneak attack, you're rolling 5d6.
Wow. Okay.
Oh, that's good. Oh, yeah, that's so cool.
Okay, wait. So that's 12.

Speaker 1 22, 23 points. 23 points of damage.

Speaker 1 Plus 6 because of the extra damage of just the regular attacks. Oh, my God.

Speaker 1 Okay, plus, and then 6 from... So 23.
Plus 29. No.
Oh, 29. 23 goes to 29.
But that other half is slashing, so that will get reduced. But

Speaker 1 you guys see,

Speaker 1 this thing is

Speaker 1 shrieking at the light.

Speaker 1 Thimble,

Speaker 1 describe what's going on with you as you surge out of that tree.

Speaker 1 As I start to surge toward it, the light within me starts to build back up. So you just, like, from the darkness, this bright light starts to grow.

Speaker 1 And as I get close to the back of its head, it like shifts around. And I'm going to aim directly between the

Speaker 1 into the red eye. Into the red eyes.
One of its red eyes turns around and you

Speaker 1 and as you hit fireworks like those that Ulbit has waited years and never had a chance to fire.

Speaker 1 Shoot out of this thing's eye socket.

Speaker 1 As this

Speaker 1 sword made of tinsel and filled with play and dreams

Speaker 1 high as it goes

Speaker 1 as fireworks shoot out of it.

Speaker 1 It is still up but has moved from fearsome to bloodied and removed from combat as it is like reeling from this strike. Unbelievable.
Any bonus action?

Speaker 1 Yeah, I'll hit it again. Oh, shit! I have a two-handed attack, so I will hit with my rapier.
Okay, hell yeah. Um, but but but um, you have your own weapon attack, too.
Yeah, gotcha.

Speaker 1 Unless you want this to count as a single.

Speaker 1 No, no, no, no. That's like all good.
Also, there's a different, I don't know if you would, did you shift weapon masteries or no? Because this thing has a different

Speaker 1 scimitars have a different weapon mastery as well. Good to know.
I just took it and and used it as I

Speaker 1 as you as you should. In that case, yes, you can

Speaker 1 but but but if I cannot do another attack. No, you absolutely can't.
Matt always let us do things. Oh,

Speaker 1 don't help me. My other dad says it's totally cool to see.
No, no, no, here's the dilator cabinet.

Speaker 1 I will say that because you have not gotten a chance to train with this, you have not adopted the new weapon mastery for after this combat, you will get a chance to do that. Okay.

Speaker 1 Go ahead and take your extra attack with your rapier. Okay.
Cool.

Speaker 1 That's a regular.

Speaker 1 Just kidding. Goodbye.

Speaker 1 All right.

Speaker 1 That is a 23. 23 hits.
Go ahead and roll damage. Okay.

Speaker 1 That is, ooh, that's an 11 additional points. Hell, yes.

Speaker 1 So you come through with this fucking tinsel claymore

Speaker 1 fireworks. And as this thing reels back, come with a pin and just like it's this fabric head, just fucking pin its hood and hear the crack of something underneath it.
Even incorporeal, there's some

Speaker 1 shriek as this fairy brings the fight.

Speaker 1 Many years ago,

Speaker 1 the realm of death sought to stab at the heart of fairy, and the heart of fairy is fucking stabbing back.

Speaker 1 Cadigan, that is going to be your turn. I'm going to fly up because with my fancy footwork, I can get away without any attack backs.
That's right.

Speaker 1 And you have a space to attack from where you're not in attack of opportunity. Because you've attacked him and you're outside.

Speaker 1 Yep, you stab this guy twice in the head and fly straight up and he can't do shit about it.

Speaker 1 Fucking awesome. Nimbly bimbly.
Nimbly bimbly. That was the wraith.
That was the wraith. And he's still alive.
Yeah. He's bloodied.

Speaker 1 Is he? I don't know. Yes, he's blood.

Speaker 1 You can tell in the 1-2 of Tayor and Thimble has moved him from, I am going to kill all of you, to this is a bad start to the night.

Speaker 1 That is going to be Cadogan. That is your turn.
Yeah, all this crazy shit's going down, but he's just locked in on his homie.

Speaker 1 Watching Wolfrick take 13 points of damage. That right? 9-4?

Speaker 1 That roughs him up pretty bad. And

Speaker 1 as he threw this first start on his first turn, he was like closing the distance while he was running at this zombie on the side.

Speaker 1 Yeah, and uh, he switched, he just kind of flips the weapon in his hand and continues sprinting toward this fucking guy right here. And after he sees Wolfrick take that damage, he's just screaming

Speaker 1 as he goes in.

Speaker 1 And uh, he will take a swing with his club, but because I have Vex and it was hit with the dart, I should get advantage on this attack because technically it's a versatile ranged weapon. So, baby.

Speaker 1 Who doesn't know how to play Dean? Let's go!

Speaker 1 Not even going to need it.

Speaker 1 Ooh, the two I might need.

Speaker 1 But my first one was a 13, so I did.

Speaker 1 Sorry.

Speaker 1 13. Why do I forget? You rolled a 13 on the die naturally? On the first one.
On the first one? Plus 6.

Speaker 1 Plus 6. That is a hit.
Okay.

Speaker 1 So that is

Speaker 1 8 plus 4.

Speaker 1 You good. Not great.
7.

Speaker 1 This is the one you hit before, correct? This is the one I hit before, correct. This is the one that I hit with the dart, the skid, the thin guy.
So you're dealing seven damage to this one.

Speaker 1 Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
Wait, wait, wait. Hold on a second.
Features and traits. Tell me I know this character.

Speaker 1 I have some kind of special trait where I get to re-roll my damage dice. Damage.
Savage Attacker.

Speaker 1 Once per turn, I can re-roll my damage dice

Speaker 1 twice and use either roll. Yeah.
I'm going to hope it's better.

Speaker 1 It is

Speaker 1 distinctly worse.

Speaker 1 Great. Still seven.
Still seven. Okay.

Speaker 1 You see now everything you know about fighting zombies. They are easy to hit.
They are hard to take down. Yeah.

Speaker 1 And he's going to roll a constitution saving throw on a nine or higher, even though you reduce him to zero, you only reduce him to one. Oh, no.
So be bad. I'll roll it in front of the board.

Speaker 1 For dramatic effect, you want an eight or lower.

Speaker 1 That is a ten.

Speaker 1 So you fill it into him.

Speaker 1 You see,

Speaker 1 stays at one hit point.

Speaker 1 Just clinging,

Speaker 1 clinging to unlife here.

Speaker 1 That is your action. Any bonus action, anything Wolfrick is doing.

Speaker 1 I mean, all Wolfrick could do would be attack, but I would have to sacrifice my attack to make that happen, if I'm not mistaken. Oh, for Primal Companion? Yeah, I think so.

Speaker 1 Yeah, yeah. You know, for your...
Are you having a trinket flashback? I'm having drama right now. Yeah, I love that.

Speaker 1 No. Oh, yes.
Sure. For my bonus action, I'll use Hunter's Mark

Speaker 1 on the

Speaker 1 Fuck. The bigger guy.

Speaker 1 Or the bigger guy next to you. No, this guy over here.
We're ruining our own tussle over here on the big guy. Yeah, I'll use Hunter's Mark on the big dude.
Great. Hunter's Mark goes on him.
Oh, wow.

Speaker 1 Oh. Because then you get an extra D6 damage

Speaker 1 during the turn. Thank you.

Speaker 1 My Ranger Queen.

Speaker 1 I learned that one. I love it.

Speaker 1 Wick, that's going to be you, baby.

Speaker 1 I'm scared.

Speaker 1 Man.

Speaker 1 I'm scared.

Speaker 1 And I'm worried that this gentleman might...

Speaker 1 This gentleman might come after me. I'm going to let you know right now.
Run away.

Speaker 1 We're having a ball, and

Speaker 1 i am so psyched for this combat uh this guy can full stop kill you one hit no sword sure sure i understand wait the the the specter guy or the

Speaker 1 okay okay okay if he gets lucky he can do you in one too but he can specifically do you in one hit i'll say statistically

Speaker 1 uh i believe i believe in the light and the light

Speaker 1 you said he was bloody though so he's half he's half yes um the the light from my uh my cane and from my eyes and from the color spray before sort of starts to coalesce and I just want to pin him down and keep him here.

Speaker 1 So I will cast Halovar's Luminous Lash,

Speaker 1 which is just a reskinned

Speaker 1 earthen grasp spell.

Speaker 1 But it's light coalesces around him and forms from the ground and will sort of lash around him like a whirlwind of light. Hell yeah.

Speaker 1 I'm going to heighten this spell with my cleric ability,

Speaker 1 sorcery points.

Speaker 1 And I'm going to heighten the spell, give him disadvantage on the DC

Speaker 1 16

Speaker 1 save.

Speaker 1 And he's making, what kind of save is he making here? It is a strength save. Strength save.

Speaker 1 It's a DC 15, but because I've activated my sorceress thing, it's a 16. DC 16.
DC 16. And he's making it with disadvantage? I believe so.
That's what a heightened spell does, right? Yeah. You sure?

Speaker 1 I never took heightened spell. Oh, you didn't?

Speaker 1 I think it imposes disadvantage for two sorcery points. Three sorcery points? So you are putting everything to disc.
You're using your innate sorcery. You're bumping the DC.
Yes.

Speaker 1 You're giving him disadvantage. You're summoning the light.
And thus he won't be able to attack you when you run away if he has that going on. And it should deal some damage.

Speaker 1 You have picked an excellent saving throw for an incorporeal foe.

Speaker 1 To hit a DC of 16, he needs to roll an 18 on the guy, and he needs to roll it twice. Okay, let's just say that.
Good thing about rolling.

Speaker 1 15. He's already failed.

Speaker 1 And then

Speaker 1 go ahead and roll damage, correct? Yes, I grab him with this lash of light. I wasn't intending on hurting the lad.
It does.

Speaker 1 But it causes eight points of damage. Hell yeah.

Speaker 1 Of bludgeoning damage. Of Of bludgeoning.

Speaker 1 As you surround him in the light, go ahead and give me.

Speaker 1 I want like

Speaker 1 intimidate or persuasion as you're doing this. Whatever you're doing.

Speaker 1 What's going through your heart as you're doing this spell? You said you don't kill people. Hey, baby, your life's different.
Your life's different.

Speaker 1 All my light, all my light. All my life I've been taught that there is shadow and there is good, shadow, and there is light, and that the light must burn away the shadow.

Speaker 1 And this guy is walking shadow to me, and I just want to sort of

Speaker 1 burn him away.

Speaker 1 I love it.

Speaker 1 Looking away. Go ahead and give me intimidate or persuasion here.
Persuasion's a better stat, but I want to intimidate him.

Speaker 1 Okay, that's 15. 15.
As you look away,

Speaker 1 you see he says,

Speaker 1 you see this wraith now being bound with these cords of light

Speaker 1 and they start to illuminate a face the face looks at you and goes

Speaker 1 to burn me away.

Speaker 1 I do

Speaker 1 I was promised paradise

Speaker 1 And on a 15 intimidate it does not work

Speaker 1 you look at him as you see something in him and you you see clattering through his robes now illuminated some ancient holy symbol

Speaker 1 around him.

Speaker 1 The dead body of a cleric who has been scraping across the centuries to find a paradise that he believed in just as much as you. This is very politically

Speaker 1 turned. Day is not going well.
And that is his turn. He's not dead.
He's not dead. No, he is not.

Speaker 1 Can you back away? Can you back away? I can. I am going to use my movement to back away.
Okay. Does your spell

Speaker 1 pins him to the spot?

Speaker 1 It pins him to the spot, but he can still get a swing on you, I believe. Sure.

Speaker 1 So if you. And also, you've got zombies surrounding you right now.
If you back away, you're going to take multiple swipes for attack of opportunity.

Speaker 1 Oh, boy.

Speaker 1 Grow them wings. Fly straight up.
Oh, can I fly?

Speaker 1 You're not feeling it right now, baby.

Speaker 1 It's like two years from now.

Speaker 1 Oh, geez. I used my bonus action.

Speaker 1 No, I didn't. Wait.

Speaker 1 Sorceress,

Speaker 1 did you... You bumped it to 16, right?

Speaker 1 Sorcery points. Is that a bonus action or is that just a free action?

Speaker 1 Free action. So I still have a bonus action,

Speaker 1 but I already cast a spell. I don't know how you as a GM works.
I can't cast a second spell this round. You may not.
Okay. Have you been hit? You can cast a Cantra.

Speaker 1 I can cast a Cantra. As long as it's a bonus item.
As long as it's a bonus action, which I don't think you have. I just know, like, I don't.
No.

Speaker 1 I guess I will stand and take it. Have you been hit yet? No.
How many hit points do you have? Full 20. Oh, God, 20.

Speaker 1 So

Speaker 1 we are going to roll in front of the board. Oh, my God.
You're going to die. What? He hasn't hit me yet.

Speaker 1 He, what's your AC right now? 12?

Speaker 1 He hits you.

Speaker 1 I'll just tell you, because this is gonna be so bad. He hits you with 12, he hits you on a six or higher.
Okay.

Speaker 1 That's a natural wound.

Speaker 1 Don't hit so nonshalon. No, it's blessed.
They're like, Ernest goes to camp.

Speaker 1 You are blessed. Get out of here.

Speaker 1 Blessed. Oh, boy.

Speaker 1 Your life sounds sounds pretty sad. Mine's gonna be amazing.

Speaker 1 You know what? As he swings at me, I eat a strawberry.

Speaker 1 Beautiful.

Speaker 1 Beautiful.

Speaker 1 And the Wraith, surrounded by enemies, cannot fucking move.

Speaker 1 He is restrained for the spell's duration.

Speaker 1 Wow.

Speaker 1 Cool. Hell yes.

Speaker 1 This Wraith is now in a tight fucking spot. Tyranny, that is your turn.
Okay, casting Hex as my bonus action last time that that's both of my spell slots right i believe so yeah shit okay

Speaker 1 oh shit all right uh spell slots yeah warlock baby

Speaker 1 you have eldritch blast you have your killer excuse i'm gonna oh i'm gonna blast his ass

Speaker 1 well actually question before i'm gonna ask boxer um will that affect my friends who are in the immediate vicinity? No, it will not. Okay, great.
I'm gonna.

Speaker 1 Eldritch, blah, blah, blah, blah.

Speaker 1 Okay, go ahead, give me an attack roll.

Speaker 1 Because he is bound, I actually believe that you get

Speaker 1 you have advantage on this attack. Hell yeah.

Speaker 1 Five. Great.

Speaker 1 Is that a nine? That's a nine. Yes.

Speaker 1 Plus what? Plus, plus. It'll say on deep spell.

Speaker 1 Where'd I go? Where'd I go? Plus seven. Plus seven.
Plus seven. Nine plus seven.
Yeah. That is sixteen.
That is a hit. Oh,

Speaker 1 Go ahead.

Speaker 1 Go ahead and roll damage for me. This will be force damage.

Speaker 1 You're going to roll one D10. Oh, D10.

Speaker 1 Come on, baby.

Speaker 1 Come on. Five.
Five.

Speaker 1 You reach out and

Speaker 1 searing demonic energy

Speaker 1 connects. You see that this figure

Speaker 1 looks and you crack the holy symbol on his chest in half as it clatters to the the ground.

Speaker 1 Doesn't do anything else, does it?

Speaker 1 It does extra damage, but it's necrotic damage, which you can see is being sort of absorbed by the raid. And his deck saves don't really do anything now that he's just fully bound, right?

Speaker 1 Now that he's fully bound, yeah.

Speaker 1 That is Tyranny. That is your turn.

Speaker 1 Tayor, that is going to be your turn. Come on, kill him, kill him.
I'm coming up. The flail is taking a second swing.
We're just going to go right.

Speaker 1 And you'll be rolling with advantage as well due to to Wick's spell. That's fucking incredible.

Speaker 1 That is 15 plus 5. Pillow plus 4 is 19 to hit.
19 is a hit. Amazing.
Okay, so

Speaker 1 I'm going to dump my other divine smite into this one as well. So this is a 1d8 plus 2.

Speaker 1 I'm going to re-roll that.

Speaker 1 That was ass.

Speaker 1 Six points of damage plus two for strength. Okay.
And then I'm going to do the other divine smite which is the uh first level uh divine smite that i have not the paladin smite this is two d8

Speaker 1 10 uh 10 points of radiant damage on top of that plus an additional d8 because he's undead uh seven 17 points of radiant

Speaker 1 teor how do you want to do it

Speaker 1 Amazing. Yeah,

Speaker 1 seeing the barrage of hits coming in, the flail,

Speaker 1 almost like

Speaker 1 Godzilla's scales,

Speaker 1 like start to glow with radiant light, and I'm almost confused by it.

Speaker 1 And I swing up and just crack into the middle, catching that dark, shadowy core of where the specter used to be, and rip up and through

Speaker 1 all of this radiant light

Speaker 1 shooting out and dispersing the shadow as you hear.

Speaker 1 The wraith is dispersed.

Speaker 1 Teor, as you connect with that final smite, you

Speaker 1 sever the shadow from this plane, and you can see as it goes away,

Speaker 1 you see the rotting face in the smoke looking out, flying away from you

Speaker 1 towards an endless plain of sallow gray rock under a black sky. Smoke, soot, ash, as you send this spirit back to an underworld bursting at its seams with spirits of the restless dead.

Speaker 1 As this thing is banished, you know you have done what you must defend your friends.

Speaker 1 You look down and see the shattered holy symbol on the ground.

Speaker 1 It begins to rust, corrod, vanish.

Speaker 1 And as it does,

Speaker 1 you hear distantly.

Speaker 1 a roar muffled with pain,

Speaker 1 and that wooden lion's head on your belt burns into your side.

Speaker 1 What is that? In the center of the tree's trunk,

Speaker 1 a red rune

Speaker 1 appears in some ancient writing of the old Obrademian Empire. I don't know if anyone here speaks celestial or has the ability to speak celestial, but...
I don't.

Speaker 1 But give me a religion check if you want to. I don't, but I would like to.
Well,

Speaker 1 I was going to ask you after this session once left.

Speaker 1 Give me a religion check real quick.

Speaker 1 17. 17.
You look and see,

Speaker 1 it comes, you have not formally studied this language, but you somehow understand it. You look at it.

Speaker 1 Your grandpa spoke it. And you look at this rune and see

Speaker 1 it is beginning to grow across the tree and inscribe a name. On a 17-religion check, this is something like a vampire's coffin or a lich's talisman, right? It is effectively

Speaker 1 housing something. It's housing.
This is the hole that the wraith crawled out of the underworld from, and that rune is calling it back from the underworld where Teor just sent it. Oh.

Speaker 1 But you look and see that tree is basically

Speaker 1 like, it's like a tap in the world that's roots reach into the realm of death, and it's trying to draw that same wraith back. Oh, right? So like that tree is the problem, right?

Speaker 1 But the wraith is destroyed.

Speaker 1 That is going to be the zombie's turn.

Speaker 1 I thought maybe when the race was. I thought that was it and they would all die.
No, I really thought that was it. With him, not a chance.
Wait, do I get my eight temporary hit points? From the death?

Speaker 1 Yes, you do. Oh, oh.

Speaker 1 If it is still,

Speaker 1 is anybody hurt? Like, hurting

Speaker 1 Wolfrick. Aren't you.
Oh, Wolfrick is hurt? Are you hurting?

Speaker 1 How far away is Wolfrick? Wow. Pretty far.

Speaker 1 A dance between the rainbows.

Speaker 1 This is the first time.

Speaker 1 The first time for this. Within 30 feet.
Is Wolfrick 30 feet from me? 5, 10, 15, 20. I think he's within 30 feet.
Yeah, I think he's.

Speaker 1 Immediately after I cast Divine Smite, you can expend one of my channel divinities to distribute two D8 plus three temporary hit points to creatures of your choice within 30 feet including myself hell yeah um

Speaker 1 i do yeah

Speaker 1 uh go ahead and roll those temp hp and assign them where you wish um uh three attacks are coming for you some of them are going to hit are you casting uh shield

Speaker 1 probably

Speaker 1 probably okay

Speaker 1 uh i probably should yes okay though i'm yeah i still have a couple spell slots okay uh you cast shield once more and repel all three attacks

Speaker 1 5, 10, 15, 20. This one closes on you.
There are now four zombies surrounding Wick.

Speaker 1 This one is going to close on Teor. 5, 10, 15, 20.
Okay, two are coming for Teor.

Speaker 1 Ta-da-da-dam.

Speaker 1 Okay. Nine, nine.

Speaker 1 That's gonna be... How many inputs?

Speaker 1 He took 13 and he's only got 20, so he's only got 7 left.

Speaker 1 Take as many as you can. Go all the way up.
You tell me. Yeah.
What do you want to get pulled?

Speaker 1 13. Take.

Speaker 1 Seriously? Yeah.

Speaker 1 13 for Wolfram? 25, yeah. I'm glad you like my dog.
Wolfrick gets hit for eight points of damage. Hey, thanks, you just saved his life.
Yeah, there you go. There you go.

Speaker 1 Is anybody else hurt?

Speaker 1 Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. Remarkably not.
Don't worry, the zombies will take care of this.

Speaker 1 Travis, you get clocked twice. Oof, yikes.

Speaker 1 For

Speaker 1 six and then four points of damage. So 10 points of damage.
As you take care of the wraith, you see these zombies

Speaker 1 launch. One of them hits you for six points of damage, has his arms at the ready, but just cocks his whole body back and thuds his head into your face.

Speaker 1 Just the side of his head smashes into your snout. Boom.
As you take that damage. They just instantly damage you.
They don't roll to hit or anything. No, they've been, he's been hitting.
Oh, amazing.

Speaker 1 I have all your guys' armor classes and everything, everything back here, which is why we're moving past that quickly sometimes.

Speaker 1 Fimble, that's going to be your turn.

Speaker 1 Okay.

Speaker 1 As I'm looking at these zombies, do any of them look fresh like Sid?

Speaker 1 Oh, God.

Speaker 1 You

Speaker 1 can't get me in investigation. Oh, girl.
No, I can't see. You would have put out a lion minute.
You would for sure put out

Speaker 1 18. 18.
You don't see Sid.

Speaker 1 On May 18 Investigation, the zombie that just thudded its head into your opens its mouth.

Speaker 1 This long tongue lolls out over rotting teeth. The stink of abscesses.
You see a giant pus-filled blister in between the cheek and the mouth.

Speaker 1 And back behind the uvula, a small glowing red rune exactly matching the tree here.

Speaker 1 You think that the tree is what's keeping the zombies animated in this moment.

Speaker 1 That tree.

Speaker 1 However, it is your turn and some you can tell that a couple more, like around, another round of this, someone's gonna drop. Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay.

Speaker 1 I don't have any fire.

Speaker 1 Do I have that? Like, I have

Speaker 1 wait, I gotta think. Clear, crucible, thieves, tools.
Do you have anything on me, like adventure kit-wise, that like could create fire? Yeah, they have like a lantern, but

Speaker 1 you have a lantern on you? Yeah, but I mean it's not it's not lit. Yeah,

Speaker 1 let's take a look here, Thimble.

Speaker 1 in your inventory uh

Speaker 1 i think you should have an adventurer's kit yeah um if you do not already okay um uh but uh it's up to you um uh the uh as you are searching forward in this moment um uh i think on you but you're also with your size i don't think you have anything like oil or an accelerant i don't think you have i think you have flint and tinder but i don't think you have anything like an accelerant but you can also delay your turn initiative if you want to if you you want to collaborate with someone else.

Speaker 1 And the lantern probably has kerosene in it or something. Yeah.

Speaker 1 Fire! I need fire!

Speaker 1 Okay, it's in the rude!

Speaker 1 Alright, Thimble,

Speaker 1 do you want to delay your turn until someone else can supply you with what you need? Yeah, can I... I will...

Speaker 1 Oh, he's at the very bottom. Kat, do you have...
Like, do you have a lantern on you? Anything?

Speaker 1 I have oil and flint. Okay.

Speaker 1 I need you to toss me your oil on your after me, right? I'm going to delay my turn until Kat can cool. Keep me honest.
Give me one second. Yeah, I've got oil and a tinderbox.
Flint. Okay.
Hell yeah.

Speaker 1 So Cadigan goes right after you, and the Wraith is out of combat. So, Thimble, you can absolutely

Speaker 1 Cadigan, you boom, toss it through the air. Give me a DC-10 acrobatics as you toss this thing through the air.
Oh, acrobatics? Okay, fingers crossed. Here we go.

Speaker 1 Oh my god.

Speaker 1 Can you guide yourself? It's a four,

Speaker 1 but my acrobatics is a six. Hey, DC10, baby.
The nibbly bibli, old man.

Speaker 1 So you, Thimble's on the other side of this tree from you, so you just volley, hook this thing over this pine tree, thimble. You see it cascading from here, grab it, you are good to go.

Speaker 1 You have your full turn. You can fly forward

Speaker 1 and shoot where the cliff was on the tree. Yeah.
Some of like the dry, viney sort of situation. Yeah.
I'm just going to try to

Speaker 1 and light the thing on fire. Using your object action to just dump the oil out

Speaker 1 all over the tree, you look out hearing the shambling of the dead. Flying up the highest you have in this battle, you look out

Speaker 1 at hundreds of bodies. Oh,

Speaker 1 out here in the forest, the oil comes pouring down the tree. I'm gonna need a difficulty 15 sleight of hand.
Lighting a fire with flint and tinder is not super easy.

Speaker 1 so this will be a dc 15 sleight of hand come on

Speaker 1 that's a 25

Speaker 1 uh thimble getting down as fast as you can in the vines oil pouring down within these vines the skeletons of squirrels and rats and mice some human skulls throughout and you see desiccated gossamer wings

Speaker 1 it's time to go home as you strike the flint behind you on your back the toy sword

Speaker 1 a bottle rocket right as you strike the flint

Speaker 1 sparks into the tree and you look at the restless dead searching for a home and the words welcome home written in many bright colors

Speaker 1 race through the oil as fire of every color under the sun races over the tree as the oil touches the rune.

Speaker 1 All of the undead fall to rest.

Speaker 1 You have won this combat!

Speaker 1 That is welcome home.

Speaker 1 Nice play. That's amazing.
And as the fire spreads and casts its light, Teor, you look from side to side as the heat fades from the lion head.

Speaker 1 You look,

Speaker 1 see them falling.

Speaker 1 You don't know what this could mean.

Speaker 1 The light that wick can shine,

Speaker 1 the light coming from your flail.

Speaker 1 Here in the dark forest, the light spreads from fireworks and flame itself, illuminating. a glade with no sight of your brother.

Speaker 1 His body does not lie among the now restful dead.

Speaker 1 Where he is and whether Subri's vision of the fate that might await him is true, we will have to discover on next week's episode of Critical Role. Oh my god.
Hell yeah.

Speaker 1 Hell yeah.

Speaker 1 Oh my god.

Speaker 1 What an incredible amount.

Speaker 1 Are we out?

Speaker 1 No, we're not out.

Speaker 1 I've been told that we get a few moments of banter. Oh my god.
Yes, we do.

Speaker 1 That seems so natural.

Speaker 1 Of course.

Speaker 1 Understand this. I'm authentic and I'm fun.

Speaker 1 Understand that above all else, okay?

Speaker 1 I do love that with hundreds of zombies in the periphery, you said, rest assured, they can just take you out.

Speaker 1 You guys are on the cusp.
