Hey, I'm Paige DeSorbo, and I'm always thinking about underwear.

I'm Hannah Berner, and I'm also thinking about underwear, but I prefer full coverage.

I like to call them my granny panties.

Actually, I never think about underwear.

That's the magic of Tommy John.

Same, they're so light and so comfy, and if it's not comfortable, I'm not wearing it.

And the bras, soft, supportive, and actually breathable.

Yes, Lord knows the girls need to breathe.

Also, I need my PJs to breathe and be buttery soft and stretchy enough for my dramatic tossing and turning at night.

That's why I live in my Tommy John pajamas.

Plus, they're so cute because they fit perfectly.

Gone was the hope we'd come out of this better than we went in.

There wasn't nothing left to gain but our lives, and to lose.

Hell and demons haunted my thoughts like old daydreams and high school memories.

And every damn day was just a hustle to keep one foot out of the fire.

None of us had much hope, no matter how often we tried to feed it to each other like it was gospel.

And now, here we were.

Taking a cursed elevator down to some hidden level.

Cause we'd chase hope wherever it led, even if it dragged us straight to hell.

Funny thing is, riding that elevator felt a lot like our whole situation.

Like falling in slow motion.

I'm not picking up anything over here.

Just a little mist coming up from the floor.

We're probably right at the edge of the Resonator's range.

Or we're one floor closer to hell, whichever.

Do you mind keeping your optimism to yourself?

Sorry, Phil.

I know you're just saying what we're all thinking, but some things are better left unsaid.

This place looks more like a tomb than anything else.

Whatever this machine does, besides what we think it does, it looks like something straight out of a museum of modern art.

For being a glorified recorder, why is it the size of a grand piano?

I'm not sure the word glorified applied to whatever this thing is.

Is it getting power?

There's a power cable threaded through the wall.

Could be plugged into the mansion's electrical system.

And there's another, much wider one.

I'm not sure it's for power, though.

Never seen anything like it.

Hmm.

Before we even think about turning this thing on, I'd like to check under the hood.

See what we're dealing with.

Oh, this back panel looks like it slides sideways.

Yup.

Just a bunch of wires and whatnot.

But how they're organized looks.

oddly patterned.

The configurations look like they're outlined in some kind of...

Secret writing?

A runic system?

I'd bet the whole thing is designed in accordance with some kind of mephitic ritual.

I'd bet you're right.

Grab those tapes.

We'll have to get more listen ones with time sight again.

There'll likely just be more of the same sick exchanges we heard on the wax cylinders.

No stone unturned.

Wait a minute.

There's power coming to it.

I can see some panels with lights on them in there.

Where's my flashlight?

Yeah,

there...

there looks to be a secondary machine of some type in here.

Only a few connections with the rest of the setup.

Making some kind of noise.

What's it sound like?

You see any moving parts?

Everyone, shut up so I can listen.

Oh, Jesus Christ.

There's something alive in there!

Fuck.

Are you sure?

There's something in there.

It's breathing.

Did you see what it is?

No, no, but...

But the machine's big enough to house just about anything.

Oh my gosh.

What I heard every day, John.

All right.

Everyone back off and stay calm.

Whatever's in there doesn't seem dangerous.

I mean, if it was supernatural, the portables would have picked it up by now.

Right?

What?

Yeah,

yeah, yeah, that's right.

I wonder if that would hold true once the whole thing is turned on.

Okay, I'm gonna take a closer look.

Keep me covered.

I gotcha.

First thing, I'm gonna push it away from the wall.

I'm wondering if...

Yeah, there's a larger panel back here, where that big, weird coil comes in.

Be careful.

Right there, there's a button.

It might unlock the panel.

Gotcha.

Okay, I think that did it.

Looks like this isn't a panel, more like a removable compartment.

I'm gonna see if I can slide it out.

Okay, just gonna shim meet over here so we can get a good look at it.

This

reminds me of a metal casket.

I can hear it in there.

Whatever it is.

That coil?

Could it be?

Some kind of feeding tube?

That would be my guess.

Phyllis, are you getting anything from whatever it is?

Uh, very

little.

Just flashes of

fear.

So much fear.

I'm gonna see if I can open it.

Looks like this could be a release slider.

Okay, here we go.

Oh

Lord.

It's a human being.

It's Charlie Priest.

What the hell have they done to him?

When I pulled him out, he must have deactivated any life support.

Quickly, put him back in there.

He's dying!

I can't get the damn thing to slide back in.

You gotta kill me, please!

Get him back into that fucking thing.

Here, try pushing it.

My god, can't someone help him?

The fucking thing won't budge.

It's too late.

He's

he's gone.

Whether he's my cousin or not, he's a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

If I told him such outlandish things, things, I...

I could very well lose my appointments.

Bruce, there is much more at stake here than your standing with the church.

I wouldn't come to you with this if it weren't true, if I didn't have solid proof.

There's a conspiracy at play here, and by all accounts, it's immense.

Who knows how high this goes?

If you truly have the evidence you claim, then why not approach the conventional authorities first?

Surely they're far better equipped to handle this sort of thing than the church.

They might be better equipped, yes, but they're not exactly inclined to take supernatural threats seriously.

The church, on the other hand, understands and acknowledges the supernatural.

They're our best chance to legitimize this.

Once they're convinced, they'll have the credibility to involve formal authorities, who will listen far more attentively than if I approached them alone.

Look, send me what you have so I can see it for myself.

Perhaps if it's as compelling as you say, I might

Bruce

Bruce, are you there?

No one's available to take your call.

Please hang up and try again.

Tell it, there's no service.

Do you think they?

Who else?

We can't so much as sneeze without them knowing about it.

Should we drive back in again?

Take all this up in person?

I suppose we don't have any other options.

We'll have to leave in the morning.

Were you able to find any more communications from Dr.

Raglan?

I checked all your email accounts, went through the rest of the parcels, and even called the venues where you lectured to see if anyone had left something for you.

Nothing turned up.

That doesn't bode well for Dr.

Raglan, I'm afraid.

It could also just mean she gave up on you.

But if she's out there, there's a chance she still keeps an eye on websites that deal with Mephitika.

We could likely send her a message.

See if she responds.

That's how the FBI agents found me.

I'll start with the usual sites.

See if I can coax her into contacting us.

You do that.

As for me,

I'm exhausted.

I think I'll turn in.

It's about time you got some rest.

If you uncover anything, even the smallest clue, wake me immediately.

We've lost too much time already, and we can't afford to lose more.

Good night, Dad.

Cars all packed up for tomorrow.

Any idea how long we should be gone?

Thanks, Martin.

I can't say.

I suppose it depends on how receptive Father Dyson is to the truth.

I can't say that it'd hold out much hope.

Took me and Bill actually seemed those bastards leaving.

How is Bill holding up?

I know getting back into all this was the last thing he wanted.

In for a dime and for a dollar, is what he said to me.

I think you realized that once you travel down this road, well,

there's no off-ramp.

I guess so.

But neither one of you owes us a thing.

I mean, we'd understand if you didn't want to stay on.

You guys saved our lives back in Naples.

We'll never forget that.

You just keep those big checks coming.

Seriously, though, we get it.

This is something...

something that has to be faced.

I just worry about Dad.

He's not getting any younger, and now...

Well, it's just going to get worse the further we get into this.

We can certainly use those people we've been trying to get a hold of, that's for sure.

Engineers, psychics, ex-FBI.

It's just what the doctor ordered.

Let's just hope they're still around.

What the?

Looks like we lost power.

Generator kicked in, though.

Power's down.

Gonna call it in.

See if it's just us or something else.

Roger that.

I'll do a perimeter sweep while you check it out.

Gotcha.

How long will the generator last?

Probably a lot longer than the power outage.

There's no self-service, but I can still see a few lights on the other side of the lake.

So the power's not out everywhere.

Bad or they have backups too.

Still, could be trouble.

We should get your father on, just to be on the safe side.

Uh, Roger that.

Let's regroup and grab the doctor.

Don't want to be caught flat-footed.

Did you feel that?

Yeah, felt like a tremor.

Wonder if it could have been a quake that knocked out the power.

Guys, feel that?

Yeah, maybe that's what took out the power.

Could be.

We should have felt it.

Just gonna finish my walk around the guest house, and uh, then I'll be in.

Roger that, just be quick about it.

Yeah, we'll do.

Dad, are you there?

You need to wake up.

We might have a problem.

Uh, what's that?

What kind of problem?

We're not sure just yet, but you'd better get up and come down.

Just in case.

I'll be right down.

There's another one.

It sounded like it was closer than the last one.

Bill, we just felt another another tremor.

Hurry back.

Roger.

Wait a minute.

What is it?

You see something?

Just a fog bank.

Too big to be anything else.

But uh,

I can see it against the light from across the lake.

No,

it's not a fog bank.

Uh, something...

something big's coming out of the water, like a...

Like a massive shadow.

Can you make it out?

It's gone.

I must be losing my freaking mind because it looked...

Looked like whatever it was went straight up into the sky.

Okay, get back in here, ASAP.

And be.

Oh, God.

What is that?

I think it hit the house and that smell.

I've got to get to dad.

I don't know what the fuck it is, but there's something huge out here.

Dad, can you hear me up there?

Dad!

You might be trapped up there if the ceiling came down.

Hey, I can't make it out, but it's like taking up the sky above the house.

And then this...

And there's this awful stench.

You need to get into the cellar.

Now!

We gotta get the doctor.

You might be trapped upstairs.

Better hurry the hell up, then.

This thing's big enough to flatten the whole goddamn place.

Roger that.

What the hell is it?

I've got no clue, but it's big and apparently pissed off.

Is anyone there?

Can anyone hear me?

Thank God.

Where are you loud and clear, Doctor?

Where are you?

I'm upstairs next to the hall closet.

I had to get the radio out of there.

The always completely destroyed.

Is Lenore all right?

She's right next to me, and she's fine.

What the hell happened?

You gotta keep your voice down, Doctor.

All I know is that something massive came out of the lake and smashed part of the house.

Have you tried the backstairs?

I'm already going down there.

Where are you?

Right outside the study, near the stairs.

I see him.

Dad, over here.

Where's William?

He got caught outside.

Last we spoke to him, he was by the guest house.

This is their doing.

They must have decided the pages weren't worth the risk to us getting assistance from the church.

Just wish I knew how they got through the chime.

You need word out of the doctor?

He's with us.

Where are you?

I'm over by the boathouse.

I wanted to get a better look at this thing.

It's like some huge shadow, but I...

But I can see its eyes.

All six of them.

They're fucking glowing red.

And

they're huge.

They're lighting up the entire rooftop.

I can't fucking believe what I'm looking at.

Just stay put for now.

But if you get the chance, escape.

Don't risk crossing the yard to get to us.

We're going for the cellar.

Right or dead.

Careful, Martin.

You too, Bill.

Over.

Okay.

Follow me and stay quiet.

It's the landmine.

Should we answer it?

There's no reason to wonder.

I'll put it on speaker.

What do you want?

You know what we want.

What we've always

wanted.

And now you've forced our hand.

We can offer you only two choices.

Give us the pages, and we will make you and your daughter's suffering quick.

If not, well, you need only reflect on your past, Philip.

You saw what he did to your friend.

You telling me

the thing outside is

the same.

Only he's grown, son.

Who is it?

The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterwards, when the fallen ones of God lay with the daughters of man, and they bore unto them children.

Thus, the wickedness that did abide within unholy wombs was given wretched shape, and the earth rightly trembled at their feet.

The alternate passage to Genesis 6:4?

The one found in the nameless book?

Some might say

the correct one.

And it's a

Nephilim, the child of the damned.

What have you decided, Dr.

Locktrum?

Will you and your daughter suffer, or shall I spare you both the pain?

The choice is yours.

Dad,

I...

I want no part of helping them.

Nothing.

You heard her, Doctor.

We will do nothing to help you.

Nothing.

I don't care what that fucker says.

We're gonna find a way out of it.
