Coach, the energy out there felt different.

What changed for the team today?

It was the new game day scratchers from the California Lottery.

Play is everything.

Those games sent the team's energy through the roof.

Are you saying it was the off-field play that made the difference on the field?

Hey, a little play makes your day, and today, it made the game.

That's all for now.

Coach, one more question.

Play the new Los Angeles Chargers, San Francisco 49ers, and Los Angeles Rams Scratchers from the California Lottery.

A little play can make your day.

Please play responsibly, must be 18 years or older to purchase play or claim.

you did

it.

Head for the door

to fucking see.

I gotcha.

Just take my hand.

Come on, this way.

We're coming.

Jesus Mary and fucking Joyce!

What the hell just happened?

It's here.

The fucking thing's here.

It might be here, but...

Where the fuck is everyone else?

This place is completely empty.

We're far from a normal.

Look!

There's mist everywhere!

I've never seen the resonator reveal this much activity.

The whole hospital seems engulfed.

We gotta get the fill in Leon.

The backup power kicked in, but it's only providing minimal juice.

And from all the flickering, it won't be long till we lose what little light we've got.

Well, at least it's not like the power outage back at the mansion.

If that's the case, maybe we can get through to Leon on his cell.

It's worth a try.

Hey, Mace, what's up?

Leon, what

are you okay?

Why wouldn't I be okay?

Hey, are you coming to Phil's room?

We're waiting for you.

Is that Mace?

Oh, do hurry, Mason.

I've been given a clean bill of help, and I'd like to be out of here as soon as humanly possible.

This

Hugh Wayne,

Leonard, where is he?

Where's Leon and Phil?

Where are they?

May.

Can you imagine forever?

I can.

Only one lost to the void can conjure it properly.

Moments like favor dreams.

Drowning in the thickest, blackest time.

Dying ways, yet never date.

For no soul can be suffered to waste.

This

you will know well

and soon

Mace, what's wrong?

It wasn't Leon

who was it then?

I don't know.

Huh, maybe

you mean

yeah

The witch

What do I do?

It's not like we have anywhere to run the mist is everywhere.

I gotta find Phil and Leon

period.

Okay, I'm gonna ramp the field.

It'll guzzle the battery, but it could be worth the forewarning

Just stay back and keep the lights down

Anything jumps out, I'll handle it

Where the hell did she she get that?

Like I said,

hospitals got lousy security.

Now come on.

Critical care wings this way.

I know this place wasn't exactly packed, but there's no way we're the only ones here tonight.

I got no idea.

I just know we gotta keep going.

We came through the doors affair, but they're closed now.

There is mist coming from under the door, but no more than anywhere else.

Get back.

I'm gonna open it.

Looks clear.

Come on.

Who smells that?

Smoke.

Over there.

It's coming from the chapel.

Grab that fire extinguisher off the wall.

Come in behind me.

If there's a fire in there, we gotta put it out.

Whole place could go up.

I'm ready when you are.

Those cool to the touch.

Gonna open it slow.

Stay low.

Okay.

Let's go.

Smoke's coming from the base of that cross.

Wait, that's not Jesus on the cross.

It's Leon!

Get the extinct from over there!

I got it!

I got it!

I've got his legs.

Untie his arms.

Hold on, pal.

We're gonna get you down.

Just hang in there.

Okay, okay, I got him.

Just gotta set him down right here.

Is he breathing?

Yeah, come on, pal.

Wake up.

I need you to wake up.

You hear me?

Yeah, yeah.

Shit.

Oh, we gotta get to Phil.

That fucking thing.

Take it easy, pal.

We'll go to get Phil.

Don't worry.

What happened?

She's not fucking human, Mace.

Oh, the Sparrow Witch?

She's no woman in a pointy hat either.

She's...

She's like eight feet tall.

What about Phyllis?

Where's Phil, Leon?

I don't know.

I was outside her room in the hall when when I saw the witch, but she said she only came for one of us.

I got the feeling she met Phil.

After that, I don't remember anything else.

You don't remember being tied to the cross?

No.

Nothing.

Are you hurt anywhere?

Can you stand?

Yeah, I think so.

Ugh.

Ugh.

So, what's the situation?

Those fucking freak pirates smashed into our room.

Looks like they're swarming all around the hospital.

And according to the resonator, we are knee-deep in some serious supernatural bullshit.

We were trying to find you and Phil when we saw smoke coming out of the chapel.

That's when we found you.

Hung up on a cross.

And for extra fun, this place looks fucking deserted.

And we've got to get a move on if we want to find her before the resonator runs dry.

The higher settings are eating up a shit ton of battery.

Okay, let's get going.

The time of our meeting has

come at last,

Phyllis Chambers.

Help!

Is anyone there?

Can anyone hear me?

Fear not,

for I can hear you.

Who's there?

We could have been sisters, Phyllis Chambers,

seer of the unseen,

joined in the blowing ashes of the wicked and the burned.

But would you have bent low to his black kiss?

I wonder.

You're one of them.

The sparrows.

Tis true.

I am

one of them.

What do you want from me?

To see you well again

and to share.

Lift your eyes to the sky.

Look where the wisps of smoke lift from the earth.

See you now the fire,

barely bright for the shadows heaped upon it.

I see it, yes.

Get thee to it.

Oh, I see five people standing.

They have

oh my god, they have people tied and gagged, laid across altars made from broken branches.

What is going on?

Open thine eyes and ears, and witness the cost of those who have gone below.

Hark, dear children, and mark my words well.

Our father from the Lord doth cherish thy dark offerings,

yet his hunger remaineth ever unappeased.

Upon this sable night, we shall present unto him further oblations.

I implore thee, my cherished sons and daughters,

render thy sacrifices without delay.

I, Abigail Sparrow, do hereby covenant with thee, pledging this filthy Christian soul in exchange for the commission of plunder.

I, Barnabas Sparrow, do hereby covenant with thee, pledging this filthy Christian soul in exchange for the commission of blunder.

I, Mercy Sparrow, do hereby covenant with thee, pledging this filthy Christian soul in exchange for the commission of plunder.

I, Elijah Sparrow, do hereby covenant with thee, pledging this filthy Christian soul in exchange for the commission of plunder.

Hear us and know our hearts, Almighty Father of bounty and darkness.

May the blood we spill be the ink upon the parchment of our glorious compact.

And may all the blood that has yet to be spilt prepare for us a high high place among the offices of the righteous and the best.

Know you already the fate of our foolish compacts,

but you know nothing of the fall.

Now you shall.

What's happening?

Oh,

no, to the ground.

Oh no, please.

Don't let me fall.

Please.

No.

Into wretched bulfs and yawning silence, we plunged

and plunged and plunged

and plunged.

And why thou mayest inquire do I choose to impart these words?

Tis only to furnish thee, but with a taste of hell,

that thou mayest remember it when it arises to meet you again.

But until that time, Phyllis Chambers,

I shall see your restored,

your ailing heart plucked out

and renewed in blood and vigor.

There's no way these hallways went on this far.

We wandered in a circle.

You know all this mist.

No, I remember the way.

This...

This is unnatural.

The amount of mist the resonators kicked up proves as much.

What the hell is happening then?

Take it easy.

There's gotta be something we can do.

Right?

Until now, the paranormal always seemed like an intrusion of some alien order into our own.

But now,

I believe it's the other way around.

We're the ones who've intruded into an alien order.

Is there anything we can do to

I don't know put things back to normal?

I just don't know.

I mean generally paranormal manifestations are transient.

Just a few moments in duration.

Nothing like this.

Okay, but if I understand how the resonator works, isn't it?

Sounds like every elevator in the hospital is coming up, and they're not empty.

We need to get out of here.

We need to move now

that way.

It's worth a miss to stay this.

No, you've got to be kidding me.

The hallway ends at an elevator.

There's nowhere to go.

Get back, you walk like son of a bitch.

Behind us, those things are coming.

Turn the resonator off.

What?

Turn the fucking resonator off.

It worked.

They're gone.

Holy shit, it worked.

What the fuck just happened?

The resonator consolidates our collective focus, allowing the paranormal to become more visible, and maybe even more capable of physically affecting us.

I just figured if we shut it off, it might have the reverse effect.

I think you're right about the strengthening effect.

There's so much activity in this place.

The resonator actually worked to enable it.

Yeah, but just turning it off doesn't mean we're out of the woods.

This place is still under the influence of whatever followed us out of Cold Sparrow.

It's just that the resonator isn't helping it out anymore.

Then we need to hurry up and get to Phil.

What can I do for her if we can get to her?

This thing, it just does whatever it pleases.

Then I'll carry her the fuck out of here.

If she doesn't make it, so be it.

I'm not leaving her to some fucking witch.

Look, I know you two didn't sign on for anything like this.

It might be best if you took the reprieve and headed out.

I think this thing just wants us.

But we can't leave Phil behind.

If she's right about it killing Widdle, then I think there's a good chance we're all in this thing together now.

What are you two talking about?

I thought Widdle killed himself.

Conversation for another time.

Oh, sorry.

I didn't mean to sound so grim.

I just.

Anyway, I think Pat's right.

We don't have any choice but to stay together.

Okay.

Now that that's all settled, let's head out.

We're right behind you.

Those fucking birds are all over the place.

Phil's room.

Phil's room's right up there.

I saw

I saw the whatever she is over there.

Look,

there's blood all over her jar.

Oh,

gold,

the blood,

it's everywhere.

No.

Phil.

What the fuck?

What did you do to her?

What the fuck did you do to her?

Wait, I see all kinds of blood, but...

Weep not for your dear friend, children.

She's behind us!

Jesus.

Everyone, get back.

Good lord.

Rejoice in the knowledge that she, like y'all,

have come ever closer to the end of the spiral,

and that soon

you all shall learn of the ceaseless ruptures of a world without end.
