Day 221: Words of an Angel
By reflecting on the angel Gabriel’s greeting to Mary from Luke 1:28, we are guided through the opening words of the Hail Mary with renewed attentiveness. Fr. Mark-Mary encourages us to enter into a practice of focused prayer, gently strengthening our capacity for meditation and contemplation. This steady, grace-filled approach helps us grow in spiritual intimacy with God. Today’s focus is the mysteries of the Finding of Jesus in the Temple and Baptism of Jesus and we will be praying two decades of the Rosary.

Speaker 1 Today we'll be praying with the fifth joyful mystery, the finding of Jesus in the temple, and the first luminous mystery, the baptism of Jesus at the Jordan.
Speaker 6 Today we will be praying two decades, specifically practicing, developing the habit of focusing on the words of the prayers.
Speaker 1 And as a reminder, this phase, it's called going up the decades. And so you might come to the end of these two decades and realize it wasn't a stretch.
Speaker 7 Like you kind of, you're hungry for more prayer.
Speaker 9 And that's a good thing.
Speaker 3 If that's the experience, certainly you can continue to pray.
Speaker 1 But the idea, if you will, the pedagogical sort of worldview behind it is just understanding that like extended concentration, meditation, contemplation on a natural level is a muscle and it's a habit that we can grow and develop.
Speaker 1 And so we're trying to, at the service of really kind of praying and focusing and paying attention, we're starting slow. and building up.
Speaker 1 And so the two decades might feel like it goes pretty quick, but that's all right. We're just continuing to grow and to build the muscle.
Speaker 1 And slowly but surely, we'll add the amount of decades that we're praying.
Speaker 1 So, as we're praying the Hail Mary, you can focus on the opening words of the Hail Mary, drawn from Luke chapter 1, verse 28, right? The Annunciation is the angel Gabriel
Speaker 3 appears to Mary and says, Hail,
Speaker 6 full of grace, the Lord is with you.
Speaker 1 The Lord is with Mary, and she is filled not with herself, but with grace.
Speaker 1 We can really focus on, linger with
Speaker 6 the words of the angel Gabriel, the messenger of God, which
Speaker 1 we encounter in Luke chapter 1, verse 28.
Speaker 6 Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you.
Speaker 3 An angel greeting his queen. As we two greet our queen, or the joyful, this overflowing shout of gratitude and joy.
Speaker 1 Let us pray in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Speaker 12 Amen.
Speaker 1 The fifth joyful mystery is the finding of Jesus in the temple.
Speaker 13 Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Speaker 1
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Speaker 1 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Speaker 14 Amen.

Speaker 4 Through the grace of the Holy Spirit, be recollected again
Speaker 1 as we continue to focus on the words of the prayers.
Speaker 1 The first luminous mystery is the baptism of Jesus at the Jordan.
Speaker 2 Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
