Day 219: The Gift of Prayer

12m

We begin meditating on the words of the prayers as we pray our decades of the Rosary. Fr. Mark-Mary encourages us to focus on the words of the Our Father, recalling the gift of this prayer that Jesus gave to his disciples in Matthew 6:9. In these words, we sit with Jesus as he teaches us to pray, leading us to the Father. Today’s focus is the mysteries of the Annunciation and the Visitation, and we will be praying two decades of the Rosary.

Today we will be praying with

the first and second joyful mysteries, the Annunciation and the Visitation.

So the last 10 episodes, we were practicing the relational component of our prayer, particularly practicing having some experience with focusing on the Trinity, one of the persons of the Trinity.

and then praying with Our Lady.

For these next five episodes, what we're going to do is shift focus to the words of the prayer.

So we're just going to practice really praying with and paying attention to the words of the prayers while praying the rosary.

And again, as we're praying the rosary, we're trying to really pay attention to, raise our minds and hearts to like the person, the one to whom we are praying, to focus on the words themselves.

And then lastly, the mystery.

So today and for the next five episodes, we're just going to be praying a little bit more slowly, really trying to extract the full grace, the full meaning, the full beauty of the prayers of the Our Father, the Hail Mary, the glory be, and then the Fatima prayer.

We start with paying attention to really focusing on the words that Jesus gives us in Matthew chapter 6, verse 9 on the Sermon on the Mount in response to the disciples' request to learn how to pray.

He says, When you pray, pray like this.

And he gives them the Our Father.

When you pray, pray like this, Our Father.

So let us begin.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

The first joyful mystery: the Annunciation.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, God,

pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, amen.

on the words of the Our Father, Hail Mary.

Glory be in the Fatima Prayer.

The second joyful mystery is the visitation.
