Day 216: Overshadowed by the Spirit

13m

We continue our review of relational prayer with the Trinity, turning our hearts to the Holy Spirit. Fr. Mark-Mary shares various aspects of the Spirit to start our meditation, inviting us to contemplate the promise of the Father, the fire of Pentecost, the breath of boldness, and the cloud of divine intimacy. Today’s focus is the mysteries of the Crucifixion and the Resurrection, and we will be praying two decades of the Rosary.

I'm Father Mark Mary with Franciscan Friars of Renewal, and this is the Rosary in a Year podcast.

We're through prayer and meditation.

The Rosary brings us deeper into a relationship with Jesus and Mary and becomes a source of grace for the whole world.

The Rosary in a Year is brought to you by Ascension.

This is day 216.

To download the prayer plan for Rosary in a Year, visit AscensionPress.com forward slash Rosary in a year or text RIY to 3377.

You'll get an outline of how we're going to pray each month and it's a great way to track your progress.

The best place to listen to the podcast is in the Ascension app.

There are special features built just for this podcast and also recordings of the full rosary with myself and other friars.

I encourage you to pick up a copy of the Rosary in a Year Prayer Guide, a book published by Ascension that was designed to complement this podcast.

You'll find all the daily readings of scripture, Saint Reflections, and beautiful images of the sacred art we'll be reflecting on.

Today we will be praying with the fifth sorrowful mystery and the first glorious mystery, the crucifixion and death of our Lord and his resurrection.

So today we're on, I guess what we could call day three of our review of our kind of prayerful focus on praying with a particular person, particularly today of the most holy trinity

so we're going to be we're going to really be be focusing again on praying with and praying to the Holy Spirit.

As a reminder, the Holy Spirit has been revealed to us with a couple of different names and titles and images

as the cloud that overshadows our Lady, for example,

during the Annunciation.

The Holy Spirit who comes in power,

who comes and works this miracle in our Lady's life.

We have the Holy Spirit as fire,

as a dove.

The Holy Spirit is referred to as the promise of the Father.

We see the Holy Spirit at work, for example, in the Apostles, the day of Pentecost, filling them with courage and boldness.

So I'm going to invite you to be open to any way in which you're feeling prompted or called to pray with the Holy Spirit.

A preferred way of prayer for me, again, is coming to the Holy Spirit in my imagination, imagining myself being overshadowed by the power of the Most High, the promise of the Father by the Holy Spirit, bringing to Him

any relationships where there's concern, where there needs healing or wisdom,

any decisions,

any places of my heart which have grown cold, become hardened, that need to be

softened, that need to be inflamed or strengthened.

Any people or projects that I'm carrying in my heart where I want the Lord's blessing, his anointing, his healing touch.

So I'm going to really just invite you to

imagine being overshadowed by the Holy Spirit.

Come with hope that nothing will be impossible for God.

And to bring to him anything that you're carrying in your heart,

or anyone that you're carrying in your heart, or your heart itself.

I imagine almost as we have the image of the sacred heart where Jesus reveals his heart, gives his heart to us, for us to take our heart and give it to him, entrust it to the Holy Spirit at this moment.

As we pray, the fifth sorrowful mysteries, the crucifixion and death of our Lord.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Save us from the fires of hell.

and lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy.

Okay, we'll go ahead and refocus, bring our hearts, our needs to the Lord, any place that needs healing, perhaps any struggle, any sin that needs mercy and conversion and conviction.

We'll bring these to his power again.

The first glorious mystery is the resurrection.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
