Day 238: The Assumption and Coronation of Mary

12m

Today we pray with the Fourth and Fifth Glorious Mysteries: the Assumption of Mary and her Coronation as Queen of Heaven and Earth. Fr. Mark-Mary reminds us that in the Assumption, we witness God’s faithfulness to Mary, and we renew our hope that, by the Holy Spirit, we too are destined for eternal glory. Her Magnificat becomes our pattern: rejoicing in what God has done, and trusting in what He will do. As we meditate on her Coronation, we honor Mary as both Queen and Mother, who prays that we might receive the grace to persevere in faith and echo her unwavering yes to God. Today’s focus is the mysteries of the Assumption and the Coronation of Mary as Queen of Heaven and we will be praying two decades of the Rosary.

Today we will be praying with the fourth and the fifth glorious mysteries, the Assumption of Our Lady and her coronation as queen of heaven and earth.

As we pray with the fourth glorious mystery, we see Mary being assumed into heaven,

body and soul.

And we see Mary going where we hope to follow, not just like wish to follow, but have a Christian hope of confidence to follow through the power of the Holy Spirit.

And we call to mind the pattern of Mary's Magnificat, wherein first she celebrates the great things the Lord has done for her, and then she prophesies, sings joyfully about what God will do for all of his people.

And Mary, who was faithful, Mary, whose fiat was persevering and never wavering, never taken back,

this yes to all things.

May we celebrate with joy this promise fulfilled in Mary's life and be renewed in confidence that all of the promises of the Father to us will also be fulfilled.

And as we pray with the fifth glorious mystery, Mary's coronation as queen of heaven and earth,

we see Mary being crowned, being made queen by Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

And we see in this queen our mother.

And we know that Mary is for us

a loving mother and the most powerful of advocates,

always interceding on our behalf that we may receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit, and particularly like the grace to persevere and always saying yes, and echoing and imitating her own fiat to the Lord's will,

trusting as she did, in the Father's faithfulness,

persevering in God's will, and always trusting as she did in the Father's faithfulness.

So

take a moment, become recollected, know that God is with us, invoke the grace of the Holy Spirit,

call to mind a focus for our time of prayer and meditation, and we'll begin in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

The fourth glorious mystery is the Assumption.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.
