Kylie & A’ja Wilson on Jason's Bday Thirst Trap, Being The Cool Aunt & Recruiting The G.O.A.T. | Ep. 44
Then, in “Doomscroll of the Week,” Kylie reacts to a hilarious TikTok that demonstrates exactly what it means to be a “cool aunt” and weighs in on Uncle Trav’s “cool uncle” status (5:14). Kylie also talks about whether or not parents should regularly attend their kids’ sports practices (8:55) and then reacts to being featured in Las Culturistas’ “I Don’t Think So Honey” segment (11:35).
After that, in honor of her recent hosting of a panel for Malala’s book tour in Philly, Kylie brings back “Places Kylie Has No Business Being” (14:52). She raves about the experience backstage with Malala, as well as her ultimate goal of getting her to say “Go Birds!”
Kylie then welcomes one of the most accomplished NGL guests ever, the three-time champion, four-time MVP and the G.O.A.T. WNBA player: A’ja Wilson (21:25)! Kylie thanks A’ja for sending her some A’Ones and almost immediately goes into recruiting the greatest in the world to Philly’s WNBA team in 2030 (26:01).
Kylie also asks A’ja about being fresh off her third championship with the Las Vegas Aces, how rowdy the parade bus was and what hilarious sh*t was going on at her championship press conference with those goggles and the tambourine (28:57).
A’ja and Kylie then get into her signature shoes selling out in under five minutes and what it was like having Bam Adebayo be the first NBA player to wear them during a game (41:30). Kylie and A’ja then bond over the “safe space” that is being in a relationship with another athlete, as well as the everyday competitiveness that has forced them both to stop playing certain games with Jason and Bam, respectively (47:54).
Kylie then asks A’ja about the ongoing negotiations between the WNBA and the players and what ultimately they want to get accomplished (50:51). A’ja also reveals the biggest misconception she hears surrounding this “Pay Us What You Owe Us” conversation.
Make sure you tune into More Sh*t Monday on the Not Gonna Lie YouTube channel for even more exclusive clips from Kylie’s longer conversation with A’ja Wilson.

Speaker 4 Not gonna lie, my kid told me that Jason's boobs are big, and my boobs are tall.
Speaker 3 I don't know either.
Speaker 4 I mean, I think I know, but I'm going to pretend like I don't. Let's get this podcast started.
Speaker 4
Welcome back to Not Gonna Lie, a Wave Original, brought to you by Ollipop, a new kind of soda. I'm your host, Kylie Kelsey, a firm believer in waiting until after Thanksgiving.
That's right.
Speaker 3 After
Speaker 4
to decorate for Christmas or listen to Christmas music. Cut that shit out.
It's not time.
Speaker 4 Give Thanksgiving her moment. I now host two different YouTube shows.
Speaker 4 What the fuck?
Speaker 4 Shout out to FAFO.
Speaker 4 What are we doing?
Speaker 4 Apparently two YouTube shows. And consider this your quarterly reminder.
Speaker 4 I can fight.
Speaker 4 And I will
Speaker 4 if I need to.
Speaker 4 Okay.
Speaker 4
That's right. Don't think I didn't see some of those comments on the thirst trap Garage Beer posted of my husband for his birthday.
Let's start here. Garage Beer, we have beef.
Speaker 3 Mm-hmm.
Speaker 4
Cut that shit out. You knew what you were doing.
I respect it.
Speaker 4 I do want to shout out to the real ones who have clearly heard my warnings, like at Hummingbird Cake, who said, I'm going to bite my tongue before I say something that makes Kylie come beat my ass.
Speaker 4 Way to recognize.
Speaker 4
Because you know I would. Someone else said, happy birthday to Jason and congratulations to Kylie.
Thank you. Women supporting women.
You know we love that around here.
Speaker 4 I do just want to restate as the reminder, clear as day, so there is no confusion. That's mine.
Speaker 4
Yep. When you see my husband, you should hear my voice like the finding Nemo Segals.
Mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine.
Speaker 3 Okay?
Speaker 4 Don't get it twisted. Coming up on today's episode, apparently I was the subject of an I don't think so, honey, on the Las Culturistas podcast, and I'm absolutely honored.
Speaker 4 I'm going to talk about that, as well as what it takes to be an absolutely elite aunt or uncle in Doom Scroll of the Week.
Speaker 4 I also had absolutely no business hosting a panel with Malala in Philly, but I'm so excited they let me do it anyway. And you know, I got her to say go birds.
Speaker 4 After that, I'm going to be joined by the three-time WNBA champion and league MVP, the greatest in the world, Asia Wilson.
Speaker 4
I just short-circuited because of how amazing the interview was. And still, I'm crashing out about it.
Just another person I had no business speaking to.
Speaker 4 Okay.
Speaker 4
But first, let's get into real one comments of the week. We've got quite a few comments like this one in last week's Disney episode.
An entire podcast where Kylie didn't swear. Crying Laughing Face.
Speaker 4
How hard was that? Two crying laughing faces. P.S.
That sign-off? Excellent.
Speaker 3 Well,
Speaker 4 I'm glad you guys picked up on that. I was saying that I was going to do one episode that was swear-free, the entire thing dedicated to Big Ed.
Speaker 4
For those of you who don't know, Big Ed is my father. He is the only person that I make a conscious effort not to say the F word in front of.
Well, him and other people's children.
Speaker 4 So I did say for a long time that that was going to be my one swear-free episode was going to be a shout out to Big Ed.
Speaker 4
So shout out to Big Ed. We done did it.
Now we're done. We did it.
And we can move on from not swearing
Speaker 4 because
Speaker 4 I do understand that it is a family-friendly place and we probably shouldn't freely drop the F-bomb there.
Speaker 4 But sometimes when you see something magical, you're just like, fuck, that was cool. You know?
Speaker 4 Probably can't keep that in. We'll see.
Speaker 4 And our next real one comment is actually real one artwork. Big Ed said, not my big Ed, a different Big Ed, said, I made a fun FAFO Christmas ornament modeled after the love artwork in Philly.
Speaker 4 Think at NGL with Kylie will like it?
Speaker 4 Easy answer here.
Speaker 4 Fuck yeah. That's a great, that's...
Speaker 4
That's outstanding. That's a great Christmas ornament.
Really gets you into the holiday spirit.
Speaker 3 Okay,
Speaker 4 I need this for the NGL set when we start decorating our Japanese maple as a Christmas tree. Big Ed, please make sure to check your DMs because someone is going to slide into them on my behalf.
Speaker 4
That's it for Real One Comments of the Week. Moving on, let's get right into Doom Scroll of the Week.
Brought to you by Peloton. Check out the new cross-training tread plus at onepeloton.com.
Speaker 4 All right, first up on Doom Scroll, TikToker Kay McVay shared this video of her son calling his aunt about a bad grade he got in school and she had the most peak aunt response ever for her nephew queen Emma the clip please it says my son calling my sister to see if she would sign a paper with a bad grade
Speaker 5 really quick so I got a really bad grade on a test today and I was wondering if you could sign my mom's signature because she doesn't Like I don't want her to see it because like I'm really scared that I'm gonna get in trouble.
Speaker 5 trouble.
Speaker 3 Yep.
Speaker 3 All right.
Speaker 6 So, can I, like, ride my bike over?
Speaker 3 Yep.
Speaker 6 I'm so happy.
Speaker 3 All right. Thank you.
Speaker 3 I'm on my way.
Speaker 3 All right. Bye-bye.
Speaker 3 Yeah.
Speaker 4 Or as she said, yep.
Speaker 4 That
Speaker 4
outstanding. First of all, the prompt response.
Yep.
Speaker 4 Yep.
Speaker 4
Absolutely. I love this so much.
Your aunts and uncles are supposed to be safe space. They're supposed to be the family that's just removed enough that they can kind of get behind
Speaker 4 the chaos that ensues.
Speaker 4 I love this so much. If
Speaker 4 I currently have my three nieces that I call my nieces, they're a family friend that are close enough that I feel. they are my nieces.
Speaker 4 I also have true blood related two nieces, one nephew that I am grateful enough to have in my life.
Speaker 4 If any of them called me, my
Speaker 4 nieces
Speaker 4 are teenagers.
Speaker 4 If any of them called me,
Speaker 4 I mean, if they called me for a ride at 1 a.m., if they called me to sign a test, if they called me for anything, I'd be like, drop a pin.
Speaker 4 Give me 10 minutes.
Speaker 4
And that's 10 minutes to get to you, not 10 minutes until I leave my house. 10 minutes.
No questions asked.
Speaker 4 I do believe that
Speaker 4
my, I do believe Uncle Trav would do this. I think Uncle Trav wouldn't think twice.
It would be difficult to get it to him.
Speaker 4
But by then, there might be like virtual signature for these test situations. And if that is the case, Uncle Trav, Trav, I guarantee you, will sign it to send back to school.
I know that for a fact.
Speaker 4 And I know that, because I think there's two layers to this. Will they sign it?
Speaker 4
Maybe three layers. Will they sign it? How much of a priority is it? And are they going to tell the parents? My answer: will I sign it? Yes.
How quickly am I going to get this done? Is it a priority?
Speaker 4 Top priority. It's going back to school with you tomorrow, even if you call me 9:30 at night.
Speaker 3 Okay.
Speaker 3 Third,
Speaker 4
I'm not telling nobody. What happened? Who? That's not my.
I didn't do that. I didn't say that.
I don't know what you're.
Speaker 4
I didn't even receive a phone call. I don't know what you're talking about.
Get it?
Speaker 4 So
Speaker 4
call Aunt Kai. She'll take care of it.
My little nieces and nephews, you know who you are. Give Aunt Kai a call.
I'll take care of it. Take care of it real quick.
Speaker 4 Yeah.
Speaker 4
To be clear, you're still going to have that grade, grade, but I will sign it. I'm not going to be the int that's like, you shouldn't be giving that.
No, you are in that grade. C's get degrees.
Speaker 4 How do you think I graduated? Next up on Doom Scroll, we're talking about practice. That's right.
Speaker 4 World Cup champion Abby Wombach was on the Today show and shared her thoughts on parents attending their kids' sports practices. Queen Emma, the clip, please.
Speaker 7 Do not go to practice. Oh, practice.
Speaker 7 Drop your kids off.
Speaker 7 If they're young, walk them to the practice.
Speaker 4 Go get in your car, sit in your car, play on your phone, do whatever you want to do.
Speaker 7 Read a book, go for a walk.
Speaker 7 But do not go to the practice. This is a time for your kids to play, to not be looking over their shoulders.
Speaker 7 Also, give parents their life back a little bit.
Speaker 2 That's true. Come on.
Speaker 4 Amen. I cannot agree with this more.
Speaker 4
Don't go to practice. What are you doing? Don't go to practice.
Do not go to practice. The practice is set up to prepare them for gameplay, right? They're there to play.
Speaker 4 They're there to sort it out they're there to learn new skills they're there to focus on their teammates and the coach i love the idea of roll up drop your kids off tell them to have a great practice if you want to stick around in the parking lot fine but it shouldn't be it should be clear to your child that you are not involved in their practice
Speaker 4 You know what's cool? When they come to you after practice and they get in the car and you can say, what did you work on today? What did you learn? How did that go? What did you like the best?
Speaker 4 It's more ways to talk to your kids, but being there.
Speaker 4 Also, as if you're, what are you going to do? Pop in and coach too?
Speaker 4 No, go sit in your car.
Speaker 3 Cut that out.
Speaker 4
Don't do that. They're at practice.
Let them go and play.
Speaker 4
Like Abby said, let them go play. That's why they're there.
We are not quite to an age yet where our kids are doing organized sports without parents. We currently, we've started soccer.
Speaker 4 When they do other practices, they've done gymnastics.
Speaker 4 I, during gymnastics, I have tried to sit down so that they can't see me. Why I didn't like that because it was more of a, you're not going to leave me, right?
Speaker 4 We were still able to talk about what was happening afterwards. And
Speaker 4 whenever she looked at me, I was was like, stop looking at me, focus on what you're doing.
Speaker 4 And the one time I actually told her in the car, hey, if you keep looking over at me during practice, I will go and sit in a place where you can't see me because I'm not involved in your practice.
Speaker 4 You have to focus on your coach. And last scroll, it's been brought to my attention that I was featured in an iconic Las Culturistas podcast segment called, I don't think so, honey.
Speaker 4 I have not seen this yet, so you're seeing my reaction in real time. Queen Emma, the clip, please.
Speaker 2 I don't think so, honey. Kylie Kelsey is his wife i thought she was their sister
Speaker 2 i thought kylie kelsey was travis and jason's sister and here's what happened so i was leaving a hotel and i walk past this girl and i'm like oh my god that's kylie kelce she's about five six and i say to melissa i'm like i think that was kylie kelce she goes no no no she's tall and i go right because that family is tall and i go about my life thinking that that's their sister who has a podcast that's the so disrespectful towards another podcaster i don't think so, honey.
Speaker 2
Me, I need to know this. Like, pop culture is supposed to be something I know about, and something I should know about other podcasters, Kylie.
I'm sorry, I disrespect them. Please come on the pod.
Speaker 4 I have so many thoughts. First of all,
Speaker 4 the fact that you said my name one time
Speaker 4
humbling experience. The fact that you said it multiple times is actually tripping me out.
You said my name.
Speaker 3 What?
Speaker 4 Okay, next.
Speaker 4 I do appreciate that it was not that you think that we look like siblings. That I don't think that that point was made anywhere in your minute
Speaker 4 of your segment,
Speaker 4 which I can appreciate because that
Speaker 4 would have freaked me out.
Speaker 4 I
Speaker 4 love his desire to not disrespect a fellow podcaster if we're calling me that.
Speaker 4 I know that to be clear, I know I have a podcast. I would not describe myself as a podcaster because I think that's insulting to other podcasters.
Speaker 4 I would love to go on Las Culturistas.
Speaker 4 Maybe we can have Bowen and Matt on NGL sometime. Maybe you guys want to come over here and chit-chat.
Speaker 4 I will say,
Speaker 4 I think if
Speaker 4 since Jennifer Lawrence is sitting in your guest seat, first of all, dragging her into the mess that is
Speaker 4 that segment with me involved. I'm so sorry to her that we, that I, that my name or any thoughts about me wasted your time.
Speaker 4
I would like this to end in an apology from me. I don't think so, honey, me.
I don't think so, honey, that I should take up any space in your brain. And I'm sorry that I wasted it.
Speaker 4 Also, I would just like to point out
Speaker 4 that
Speaker 3 i
Speaker 4 to be fair say this all the time kylie kelcey not a great name
Speaker 4 it's not a great name so i do i would just like to point out that you thought that i was given that name from birth kylie kelcey no
Speaker 3 nope
Speaker 4 i i'm a mcdevitt
Speaker 4 that fell face first into the kelce last name so
Speaker 4 i swiped my way into that one
Speaker 4
oh god that's bad All right, that does it for Doom Scroll of the Week. Brought to you by Peloton.
Moving on, a brand new edition of Places Kylie Has No Business Being.
Speaker 4 Recently, I had the pleasure of having absolutely no business hosting a panel for Malala on her Finding My Way book tour stop in Philly, and it was tremendous. It was incredible.
Speaker 4 Uh, my initial reaction to hearing that Malala wanted me to moderate was uh disbelief. That's the easiest way to say it.
Speaker 4 I had some words about it
Speaker 4 that,
Speaker 4 I mean, full disclosure, I said, are you fucking kidding me?
Speaker 4
You're kidding. You're joking.
That's a joke. You're kidding me.
Speaker 4 I
Speaker 4 read
Speaker 4 Malala's first book, I Am Malala, when I was in college. Our school had a very deeply rooted emphasis on
Speaker 4 what they called engagement for the common good.
Speaker 4 And
Speaker 4 there was a lot of looking at
Speaker 4 international affairs and what was happening across the globe and different social justice issues
Speaker 4 so that we could more
Speaker 4 find a deeper understanding for them. And Malala was part of those conversations because of her emphasis on
Speaker 4 women in Arab countries seeking their education. And because of that,
Speaker 4 when I got the email asking if I would be interested, I could not compute that.
Speaker 4 So
Speaker 4 I said yes
Speaker 4 and then proceeded to get very, very nervous.
Speaker 4 about making sure that I was going to live up to an expectation that I think comes along with Malala's professionalism, her intelligence, her wit, all of it.
Speaker 4 And
Speaker 4 she was
Speaker 4
incredible. I'm so grateful to Malala.
It was so amazing to meet her and her husband and her entire team.
Speaker 4 I'm so grateful that they thought that I was qualified to do this.
Speaker 4
It was incredible. And at the end of the day, we got her to say go birds.
Did say if you didn't have an answer, you could say, go bird outwards.
Speaker 4 We got a chance to chat before we went out onto stage.
Speaker 4 And I did compliment her on her usage of green attire and then proceeded to tell her that if there was ever a lull, or a question that was a little too open-ended, feel free to hit them with a go birds and you'll have them right back on your side.
Speaker 4 She didn't even need it, obviously, because every time someone asked a question, she was right on it, gave an outstanding response.
Speaker 4 And we also closed out the show in the only way Philly knows how. That's right, bringing the people together.
Speaker 4 It's beautiful.
Speaker 4 Talk about unity, you know, bringing the people together. And all of this,
Speaker 4 like I said, we got to spend time beforehand backstage.
Speaker 4 I did spend some of that time convincing her to come to an Eagles game. So now that she's said go birds and practiced an Eagles chant,
Speaker 4 I feel like she's a show-in
Speaker 4 to be cheering on the birds with us.
Speaker 3 And I love that.
Speaker 4 Thank you to Malala and her team. It was
Speaker 4 a truly memorable experience that I feel like I had no business participating in, but
Speaker 4
I am so incredibly grateful that I had that opportunity. So thank you, thank you, thank you.
Please check out Malala's new book, Finding My Way.
Speaker 4
It is definitely something you will not be able to put down. That's it for Places Kylie Has No Business Being.
Coming up, Asia Wilson is joining me.
Speaker 4 But first, a couple messages from me about my favorite things, starting with Ollipop.
Speaker 4 A lot of people ask me how I'm able to do this podcast, my new series, FAFO, be a mom to four kids, a wife, a coach, an occasional panel moderator, EAF event organizer.
Speaker 4
And the answer is, guys, I don't know either. I genuinely have no idea what I'm doing.
But what I do know is I cherish the few moments I do have to myself each day.
Speaker 4 And sometimes I even fill them with an ice-cold, delicious Ollipop.
Speaker 4
Are you kidding? My go-to flavor is root beer. It's delicious.
Sometimes I even say, it's Olipop o'clock. Yeah, I'm not the only one that says that.
Speaker 4 ollipop is a pause in a can it gives a moment in my day that feels good tastes good and does good all at once it supports your gut with six to nine grams of fiber with less than five grams of sugar it's something you can grab without thinking twice and ollipop's got a great deal here for the real ones buy any two cans of olipop in store and they'll pay you back for one shop at walmart target whole foods and thousands of other retailers near you sign up at drinkollipop.com backslash ngl breakthrough the busiest time of year with the new Peloton Cross Training Tread Plus powered by Peloton IQ.

Speaker 4 okay before i go into your intro i just want the real ones to know this might be the most impressive list of accolades i've ever read out loud in my life it is just unreal okay so here we go she's the four-time wnba league mvp three-time champion two-time finals mvp seven-time all-star two-time gold medalist and former wnba rookie of the year her Her record-breaking signature shoe sold out in under five minutes.
Speaker 4 She's a cover star for Times 2025 Women of the Year, the Las Vegas Aces all-time scoring leader, and now she's officially not gonna lie. Asia Wilson, welcome to the show.
Speaker 4 Oh my gosh.
Speaker 4
I am in the presence of greatness to a degree that I cannot explain. Thank you.
This is incredible.
Speaker 3 Thank you.
Speaker 4 First of all, thank you so much. Speaking of your sneakers,
Speaker 4
these are stunning. Thank you.
Yeah, I do. I am going to show the shoe because
Speaker 4
I'm very excited. Like, are you kidding me? Are you kidding? Look at that.
Oh, yeah.
Speaker 3 The candy corns.
Speaker 4 Thank you so much for sending me some. I will now make it my mission to,
Speaker 4 I don't know, ball at all.
Speaker 3 Come on. You got it.
Speaker 4
I am, my dad tried really hard. He cemented the hoop in the backyard and everything.
Oh, yeah. And I went the wrong direction.
I went down instead of up.
Speaker 4 To be fair, I don't know that I'm cool enough to play basketball.
Speaker 3 Well, you have A1s now, so you are definitely cool enough.
Speaker 4
Now I'm going to try. Yeah.
That's what I'm saying. Now I can ball.
Speaker 3 Yeah, for sure. I'm
Speaker 4 I might need you to offer some tips.
Speaker 4 It's okay.
Speaker 4 Because
Speaker 4 as many times as my dad told me to get my hands up, I shot from my chest every time.
Speaker 4 So there's that.
Speaker 3
We can work on that. We're good.
We can work on that. That's an easy fix, honestly.
Done.
Speaker 4
It's easy. I do think I might be decent at defense.
Okay.
Speaker 3 That's what wins games.
Speaker 4
And I love defense because that was my position in hockey. Field hockey, I was deep D.
So defense, I have deep roots in. I think I could just get my hands up.
Speaker 3 That's it.
Speaker 4 And stick with them. Oh, yeah.
Speaker 3
We're good. We're in there.
That's perfect. Like, you had me scared for a moment.
You're okay.
Speaker 4 No, I'm in.
Speaker 4
I'm five. I'm almost six feet tall.
I'm 5'11.
Speaker 3
Okay, you're checking out the boxes for me. I'm sold.
All you needed was shoes, and you got them. So we're good.
Speaker 4 Thank you.
Speaker 4 Now, Dawn Staley, your former coach in South Carolina, came on this show a couple months ago and said that you were, and I quote, the best player in the world.
Speaker 4 And I've been so excited to talk to you about that. How do you react when you see quotes like that from Dawn?
Speaker 3 I mean, from her, it's like an eye-opener because Coach Daly really picks and choose when she wants to give compliments.
Speaker 3 So I have to really like take them as a grain of salt because they don't really come often a lot. She's normally just giving me the criticism that I need to feel me.
Speaker 3 But that just means a lot, honestly. Like Coach Daly believed in me when no one else did, when I didn't.
Speaker 3 She sat in gyms and just watched a little girl that didn't know how to play basketball just love the sport and love being around her teammates.
Speaker 3 So it's pretty cool to just like have her say those things because she literally helped mold me into the best player ever in the world.
Speaker 3 And so it's pretty a big moment for us to share. I think she doesn't understand how much she has been a vital piece into how I am and who I am as a player.
Speaker 3 So I'm grateful to just hear her say those things because I know I got on her nerves a lot for four years. So it's pretty cool.
Speaker 4 I talked to her about doing TikToks with her players now. Does that surprise you?
Speaker 3 Yes, because she's, no, she's gotten soft.
Speaker 3 it's ridiculous how soft she's gotten because one when we were in school we couldn't have phones on game days we couldn't like we had to literally spend a whole day without our phone like go to classes like live a normal life without a phone like excuse me um we couldn't have social media did i remember her calling me charmin because she was like oh you're just soft like the sec needs to rough you up and i'm like now you're charming these kids got you doing tick tocks you're dancing she's wiggling those knees of hers like i'm just like who are you like who is this lady?
Speaker 3
So, yeah, she's kind of look soft around the edges. And she's always like, oh, I'm from North Philly.
Like, I don't cry. I don't do any of this.
Speaker 3 And then I look on my phone and I'm like, look at her crying on national television.
Speaker 3 So, yeah, she's Sherman now.
Speaker 4 She's the new Sherman. Now, as a lifelong Philadelphia resident, I did also talk to Dawn about the WNBA team in Philly, which we are, of course, getting
Speaker 4 2030.
Speaker 4 So I have five years to do this, but I'm going to start right now. How can I recruit you to Philadelphia? Okay.
Speaker 3 Yeah.
Speaker 3 Can I have to plug my age in here?
Speaker 4 Sure, perfect.
Speaker 4 You just. Give me some time.
Speaker 3 I mean, the city is. We do.
Speaker 4 We have so much time.
Speaker 3 That's always a plus.
Speaker 3 But yeah,
Speaker 3
let me get the wheels turning a little bit. Perfect.
And we can like... We can maybe reconsider some things.
It's a fight with Vegas, though. That's good luck with that.
Speaker 4 That's a fight I actually don't want to get into.
Speaker 3 Yeah, that's a scary fight right there.
Speaker 4
I don't know. It does worry me a little bit.
But I will tell you, just so that I can set the scene for you, our food scene, outstanding. Okay.
Speaker 4 I will tell you, the passion from fans in Philadelphia
Speaker 4 is unmatched.
Speaker 3 I've seen that's it's different. It's very different.
Speaker 4 It's, I will say, on the receiving end from visiting teams, negative feedback
Speaker 4 from people who have joined us. 10 out of 10.
Speaker 4
Big fans. They're big fans of our fans.
Okay.
Speaker 4 We pour it all into it. We really, we love,
Speaker 4 love people who ride for us. Yes.
Speaker 3 Well, I love being part of the W team that's coming.
Speaker 4 No, we will be so in.
Speaker 4
And I'm going to play the long game here to get the best in the world to Philadelphia. So I will revisit this topic.
I'm going to see if I can't connect with Dawn on this.
Speaker 4 We could get you in an Eagles jersey. I'm just saying.
Speaker 3 Okay.
Speaker 3 And if I don't, at least I'm going there to play. So I'll at least be there.
Speaker 3
And I'm sorry. Yeah.
I don't know if they're like me, but it's okay.
Speaker 4 No, no, I'm sorry. Let me get ahead of that right now because
Speaker 4 it's not good. It's actually very bad.
Speaker 3 Okay.
Speaker 4
Yep. We can work out.
And I say that being one of them.
Speaker 4
Well, for now, you're in Vegas with the Aces. Yes.
So I will respect that. And I saw you recently celebrated the championship win.
Speaker 3 Yes.
Speaker 4 I tagged along to an Eagle Super Bowl parade, so I've seen some of this stuff up close. How rowdy did it get on that bus?
Speaker 3 Ooh. Okay, yeah, it got really rowdy only because
Speaker 3
our bus driver was like going 70 miles per hour. Oh.
Unless I was up there dreaming, but we were zooming through that parade, like zooming.
Speaker 3 And so we were really like trying to turn up, but also scared for our lives.
Speaker 3
Because like I'm having the trophy in my hand. I got my Thanos glove.
Like we're trying to look good. Like, you know, we turning up.
All of a sudden, it's like, zoom, like, we are horn it downtown.
Speaker 3
Like, our bus driver was like, whoa, I love the aces. Zoom.
I was like, whoa, we want to still be the aces, honey, when we get off.
Speaker 4 I would like to
Speaker 4 just reference an outstanding super cut of you at your championship press conference.
Speaker 4 Should we roll the clip, Queen Emma? Let's reel it in now, guys.
Speaker 8 Right here.
Speaker 3 Let's roll it in.
Speaker 3 23, go on the run, go back to back.
Speaker 4 Nancy Arbor, USA-based sports. This is for Becky and for Chelsea.
Speaker 4 These are the ones that stuck.
Speaker 4 So, oh.
Speaker 4 Hi, this question is for Chelsea.
Speaker 4 Chelsea. You get one off, Adrian.
Speaker 3 Hi.
Speaker 4 The parade is October 17th, Friday. Looking forward to it.
Speaker 8 I don't know who I want to see.
Speaker 3 I'm cool. Yeah.
Speaker 4 Beyonce would be great. At the bottom, that's in this.
Speaker 4 Okay.
Speaker 4 I have so many questions.
Speaker 3 Me too.
Speaker 4
Do you remember sitting at the press conference, first of all? Yes. Perfect.
Yes. I do.
Okay.
Speaker 4 Now.
Speaker 4 Did I hear, yeah, did I hear correctly someone at the beginning saying, let's get it together?
Speaker 3 Yeah, me.
Speaker 3 Yeah, that was something that I didn't do was get it together.
Speaker 3
And it's crazy because before every championship parade, I mean, press conference, Chelsea would pull me aside and be like, Aisha, let's lock in. And I'm like, I got you.
Like, bro, I got you.
Speaker 3
Professionalism at his finest right here. Because, like, I've learned, I've learned from the other players.
Short press conference. First press conference, cut me some slack.
Never been there before.
Speaker 3 I was late.
Speaker 3 Second, back to back.
Speaker 4 Never did it before.
Speaker 3
Give me some slack. This one, I I said, all right, let me tighten up.
But my eyes were not saying that. So Chelsea was like, put your goggles on when no one's talking to you.
And I said, you're right.
Speaker 3
So in my mind, I was like, that'll help. Yeah.
I'm like, when I put these goggles on, they do not see me. Like the camera was supposed to pan like to someone else.
But it didn't. It stayed on me.
Speaker 3 And I'm like, that's not what I asked for.
Speaker 4 Do you think it had anything to do with the tambourine?
Speaker 3 The tambourine was just,
Speaker 3 it did the speaking. It was supposed to speak for me.
Speaker 3 Once again, I was not. I was off the horse there.
Speaker 4 The only thing that would have made that better if you started checking behind yourself to be like, What are you guys looking at?
Speaker 3 My gosh,
Speaker 4 I'm not here. I am invisible.
Speaker 4 It was outstanding.
Speaker 4 You did amazing. Thank you.
Speaker 3 I'm glad I got you.
Speaker 4 The only thing that'll make it better is when you go for four
Speaker 4 and somehow top yourself,
Speaker 3 somehow it never fails.
Speaker 4
If you could please, I'm just going to float this one out there. I'm going to knock on wood because I'm a very superstitious person.
I don't want to jinx you going
Speaker 4
on your mission. Thank you.
We'll leave it that broad. I think the tambourine is the perfect segue to a full drum set.
I'm just going to throw it out there.
Speaker 4 I think if someone wheels you in a drum set,
Speaker 4 that would be
Speaker 4 clean. Outstanding.
Speaker 3
Yeah, I like that. I like that.
I actually like that. Consider it.
New instrument every time.
Speaker 4 We can manifest it. I just think you need to go bigger, bigger.
Speaker 3 Bigger than the tambourine did enough.
Speaker 4
No, I think it did. No, no, no.
I think it was perfect. But if you guys go for four
Speaker 4
and you do it, I just think it was the perfect lean into a drum set, a full drum set. I like that idea.
Just consider it. Just consider it.
Speaker 4 Yeah. If anyone needs help getting that taken care of,
Speaker 4 I will volunteer. Yes.
Speaker 3
Perfect. We know where to go.
We got you. We're here.
Speaker 4 I just can't wait for someone to be like, who is that woman wheeling in a drum set?
Speaker 4
It's going to be me. It will be me.
Once again,
Speaker 3
wear your goggles. No one will know you're bringing it.
Perfect.
Speaker 4 That's the checking. My invisibility cloak goggles.
Speaker 3 No one will know you brought it in. They're like, listen to this.
Speaker 3 Who's pushing these drums?
Speaker 4
Wow, those drums are moving by themselves. That's perfect.
I'm doing it. Please do that.
Let's do it.
Speaker 4
And since we're playing clips, I just saw your dance in Jennifer Hudson's Spirit Tunnel. Oh, yeah.
South Carolina, come on and raise up.
Speaker 3
Spirit Tunnel. South Turtle, cause we got Asia Williams.
South Carolina, come on and raise up. Yes.
She's a what? Because she's a bad W NBA. South Carolina, come on and raise up.
Spirit tunnel.
Speaker 4 You killed that.
Speaker 3 Thank you.
Speaker 4 You really did. Thank you.
Speaker 4 That's the first point second point uh i cannot get over how many comments are people shocked about you being tall yeah i didn't get that either i'm like did people
Speaker 3 not understand one what i do for a living
Speaker 4 guys do you do you not understand basketball like
Speaker 3 uh do you are people often surprised at how tall you are yes i actually get that like okay really like when i take pictures of people they're like whoa you're tall and i'm I'm like
Speaker 3 did you think I was going to be your height
Speaker 3 like did you think
Speaker 3 I was going to be especially like men mentioned you think I was going to be this good yeah and they're like whoa you are tall and it's like
Speaker 3 yeah
Speaker 3 like it's very much how's the weather down there like yeah what did you think so yeah I'm always very shocked at how people are shocked that I'm tall and I'm just like do I not give tall because I feel like I give tall like when you see me play you do I don't.
Speaker 3
It's not small. For sure.
So I'm kind of like, what did you guys think I was five, six?
Speaker 4 I will say I
Speaker 4 am frequently
Speaker 4 within that interaction of I step to someone, like next to someone, and they do the same.
Speaker 4 You're taller than I thought. Yeah.
Speaker 4 And I'm like,
Speaker 4 I actually talk about being tall all the time. Right.
Speaker 4
Literally all the time. I can't tell tell you how many times I've talked about that whenever I put on a pair of pants, it looks like a flood's coming.
I
Speaker 4
yell it from the rooftops. Yeah.
And still, people are like, wow.
Speaker 3
Right. Huh? It's so weird.
I'm like, you can Google my height and it's going to tell you.
Speaker 3 It's not going to lie.
Speaker 4 Now, I'd love to talk to you more about your legendary career.
Speaker 4 You just won Defensive Player of the Year.
Speaker 3 Yes.
Speaker 4 Yes. So I think it's safe to say you can probably defend anyone, but who would you say is the toughest player to go up against?
Speaker 3 Ooh, toughest player to go up against.
Speaker 3 I'm going to always say Brianna Stewart. I'm going to say Stewie,
Speaker 3 only because Stewie's just, she's a three-level scorer. And the way that she plays the game is so tough to read because she's that skillful.
Speaker 3 And so sometimes when I'm thinking about just how to guard her, how to make it hard for her, because some players are like, okay, force it to their bad hand. You can live with it.
Speaker 3
But Stewie is completely different. Like you really have to be able to know how and when she's going to score the basketball.
And that's super, super tough. But I love it.
Speaker 3 I really love competing against Stewie because every time we play against each other, it is like Blockbuster to like some elite basketball that you're watching.
Speaker 3
And she makes me think every possession. And I love that because sometimes I get bored mid-game just because of just the person that I am.
I just get bored easily.
Speaker 3
But sometimes when you're guarding Stewie, you have to keep your head on the swivel because she's very guarded. Yeah.
Yeah. She's very guard-like.
Speaker 4 um but then also she's tall so yeah it's a you get get the best of both worlds okay we'll add her to the list of recruiting wouldn't that be fun if you guys could play together then you don't have to go up against her i'm just gonna throw that one out there again just circling back a little yep uh is there a team or player besides stewie that you feel you personally have done the most game planning for uh i'm trying to think of all the teams i would say we always do a lot of game planning for uh the Seattle Storm.
Speaker 3 I feel like that's a team that we're always pretty even with. Like
Speaker 3 we're always going to see them in playoffs, like no matter what. I feel like we run into them every single year.
Speaker 3 And then throughout the regular season, it's never really a butt, cut, an ass whooping. They probably whooped our ass.
Speaker 3 I know they whipped our ass once, but it's always like just constant, just butting of the heads
Speaker 3
every single year. It doesn't matter what roster that is there.
It's always something. So I think we have to to prep extra hard for them.
Speaker 3 And I think they're also a team that really has like three guards and two posts. Like they really play the or like the structure, the basketball structure, like always the same way.
Speaker 3 And they're really good and they have vets at each position. So I would say prepping for them is always like very tough.
Speaker 4
Well, real ones, somehow. It's already mid-November.
And even though I don't start decorating for the holidays until after Thanksgiving, I do sometimes start shopping for the girls earlier.
Speaker 4 And this year, I've got a secret weapon for hiding their presents, the trunk of my Toyota Sienna. I'm telling you, this thing goes on forever.
Speaker 4
And the best part is, is that it's deep, which means you can hide the stuff in the bottom, pop a coat over it or a blanket. They're never going to know.
You don't even have to cover it.
Speaker 4 I'm pretty sure that if I open the trunk, our kids still wouldn't be able to see it as long as it's at the bottom of the trunk. That's how deep the trunk is.
Speaker 4 Do you know how much stuff you can fit in there? Presents for four kids. That's what you can fit in there.
Speaker 4 And it's not just the Toyota Sienna's trunk that's going to come in clutch this holiday season. I'm always doing a lot more driving around this time of year.
Speaker 4 And that 36 miles per gallon means I won't constantly have to stop for gas, which is a problem when kids are in the car.
Speaker 4 Because I'm telling you right now, the minute you put the car in park, everybody wants to get out. And when you don't, oh my gosh, run.
Speaker 4 If you're looking into the minivan life this holiday season, I highly recommend a nice Sienna test drive at your local Toyota dealership today.
Speaker 4

There's always a point every fall when cozy starts taking over everyone's life in the best way. Real ones, you know what I mean.
Suddenly, it's soup season.
Speaker 3 I love.
Speaker 4
homemade chicken noodle. I'm not eating it out of a can.
And if I am eating soup out of a can, it's tomato and rice every time. Don't ask me any questions.
That's silly. Don't do that.
Speaker 4 If you haven't tried it, do. And if you have tried it, you get it.
Speaker 4 You're wrapped up in throw blankets on the couch watching your favorite shows, and the only clothes you want to wear are soft and warm. That's where Macy's comes in.

Speaker 4 now women's basketball has of course grown exponentially
Speaker 4 and like I mentioned in your intro you're personally uh popular to the point your signature Nike shoes the A1 sold out in under five minutes
Speaker 4 five minutes
Speaker 3 what was your initial reaction to hearing that it's crazy because I tried to sleep through like I wanted to sleep through the alarm like I didn't set an alarm that day I was like I don't want to wake up when the shoe drops I don't want to see anything about it.
Speaker 3
And so I purposely like just slept. I just was like, I'm sleeping, I'm sleeping, I'm sleeping.
And then finally, I like woke up and it was sold out.
Speaker 3 Of course, I woke up like four minutes after my, after the shoe dropped, just because I couldn't stand to sleep in.
Speaker 3 And when I saw it, I literally just started crying only because I couldn't believe it. Like this was something I could honestly say.
Speaker 3 the A1 was one of the most anticipating shoes that we've seen in a long, long time.
Speaker 3 And we had pop-ups like all over the country and like people were camping out and waking up early, early, like just to get in line.
Speaker 3 So it gave you the old school, like, I need to get this shoe type of feel.
Speaker 3 But when it got online for everyone to really buy, I was so nervous. And so when it sold out, I was just like.
Speaker 3 bawling crying because i could not believe that like finally this shoe is shared with the world like finally everyone can see why it took so long and why we had to work so hard and kept it so close knit But yeah, I was in tears because I just could not believe that people wanted the A1, which is crazy, but like, it's just that feel that you get.
Speaker 4
It's so funny because it's not even that people wanted it. It's that people were so excited to get it that they did exactly what you're saying, the old school shoe drop.
Like, I need to be there, like
Speaker 4 lying around the block situation.
Speaker 3
Yes. Yes.
That's it.
Speaker 4 Five minutes is like
Speaker 4 insane.
Speaker 3
Like, I literally, like, I really was just like, there's no way. Like, there's just no way.
And then also for me, because pink is my favorite color, obviously, that's why the first shoe is pink.
Speaker 3 But I was very worried about like, is the consumer going to like pink? Are they going to buy pink? Is it just going to be women? Like, are they going to know that this is a shoe for everybody?
Speaker 3 So there were like a bunch of things going off in my mind to where like my parents had to say, Asia,
Speaker 3
just please calm down. Like no one's thinking about what you're thinking right now.
Like they're just, they're going to want to buy the shoe because they want to buy the shoe point blank.
Speaker 4 Yes.
Speaker 3
And like I had to realize that. And then once I got over that, I was like, oh, they do want a pink shoe.
I was like, yes, we painted the town pink.
Speaker 4 Now, speaking of the pink shoe,
Speaker 4 one of the
Speaker 4 amazing images that I saw of other players wearing the A1s.
Speaker 4
was Bam. Yeah.
He wore them in a game back in February before the A1's official release.
Speaker 4 What did it feel like to be able to see not only your shoe,
Speaker 4 but also
Speaker 4 having the support of someone like that?
Speaker 4 What did that feel like?
Speaker 3 It was amazing. Like it was a feeling that it didn't really hit me until I went to the game and I saw him in them because I gave him the shoe like a couple of days before.
Speaker 3 And I don't ever pressure Bam to, I'm not like, wear these on this day.
Speaker 3
and rock them. Like, I never do that.
I'm like, dude, do your own thing. Like, thank you for even having them, obviously, but just do your thing.
So I didn't know he was going to wear them that game.
Speaker 3 So when I got to the, to the arena and see him warm up, I was just like, oh my God. Like it just, it kind of shook my heart a little bit because I'm just like, dang, like, these shoes aren't even out.
Speaker 3
And the first person to wear them is my boyfriend. Like the first person that has really like playing in them and like on the NBA platform.
Like this is huge. And I mean, he's set in on meetings.
Speaker 3
He's been with me every step of the way. So he's a piece of the journey as well.
So for him to kind of get a chance to wear it and rock it, obviously it made my heart so happy.
Speaker 3
His support is unwavering. Like it's, it's incredible the way that he can constantly show up for me in the midst of everything that he has going on.
So it was super cool.
Speaker 3 I was like, dang, like my shoes on the NBA court. Like he got to wear it before me.
Speaker 3 That was when I was a little salty, but I was like, hey, if anyone, if anyone, it can be if anyone gets a free pass here, that's fine.
Speaker 4 You can have it.
Speaker 3
It'll be you. Because I was like, you're wearing them before me.
Like, I don't know how I feel about that. And he was like, Oh, you know, sorry.
Speaker 3 Like, no, but he was trying to play it off, knowing, probably knowing he was like, I'm wearing these tomorrow.
Speaker 3 So, yeah, it was pretty cool.
Speaker 4 That's incredible. Now, I talked about this recently, but I think relationships between athletes feel like safe space.
Speaker 4 And I will say this: as in like me calling myself an athlete to you, is a very generous
Speaker 4 take. So, just let's throw that one out there.
Speaker 4 But, I being with my husband and enjoying like athletics together, enjoying athletics separately, understanding like being coachable and working with a team and all the things that go into like team sport and being an athlete.
Speaker 4 Do you find that in your own relationship?
Speaker 3 Yes, absolutely. I think it just, it's so like rewarding that after a game or just when you're going through like slumps in your season, that you know that your partner fully understands it.
Speaker 3 Like 100%.
Speaker 3 There's times where after a game, I just sit in the car and bam's just like I know and it's like just sometimes like just to hear that you're like oh my god thank you like I don't have to explain myself or I don't have to show up and just be your girlfriend right here on the spot like you understand that it's tough right now it's hard right now and I may not I may can't put it into words but you know exactly what I mean and I think that is the beautiful thing for with our relationship is just like the just the I know like I get you I've been in these moments on on my own platform but now like for you i definitely know the feeling and it doesn't get like talked about enough obviously because we don't really share that out loud but like those moments just athlete the athlete versus just and it can be boyfriend girlfriend but athlete the athlete is kind of like you're sitting in your own personal locker room and you can just constantly just bounce stuff off and band will be the first person to say girl you tripping Like you, you tripping.
Speaker 3 That ain't, that ain't got nothing to do with what you're talking about.
Speaker 3 Like, that's on and uh sometimes i need to hear that a lot of times i need to hear that so it's pretty cool to have that relationship now the other thing the other side of being with an athlete is the competitive nature
Speaker 4 do you guys find that you compete
Speaker 3
Every day, all day. Like it is sickening.
It's more fun that way. It is.
I'm like, I'm like, dude, I'm just trying to go to the, I'm just trying to go to the refrigerator. And so, yeah, it is,
Speaker 3 it's very competitive. And it's actually scary how competitive it is because we do escape rooms and are like off time
Speaker 3
just because we just like to keep the wheels going. And sometimes I'm like, hey, bam, we're on the same team.
So like, I get that you found that hit first,
Speaker 3 but we, we're on the same team, dude. Like, it's okay.
Speaker 4 We're both trying to get out of here.
Speaker 3
We're both trying to get out of here. So, and then here I go.
I'm like, all right, but he found that clue. Let me go find one before him.
And I'm like, oh my God, I'm doing it, AJ.
Speaker 3 Like, I'm like, really?
Speaker 3
Come on. So, yeah, it's very competitive.
Very competitive.
Speaker 4 Is there something in particular that you guys are
Speaker 4 like regularly competitive about?
Speaker 3 I would have to say we have our Nintendo Switches that we play pretty often, and we play the Mario Kart racing game. Sure.
Speaker 3 And when I tell you that dictates what type of day we're having, it dictates today. Like, I know sometimes Bam's like, let me let her win because I'm just trying to get through the day.
Speaker 3 Like, I'm just trying. I'm just trying to get through the day.
Speaker 4 Trying to have an easy one one today. Let me let her have it.
Speaker 3
Yeah. And I think that's what we kind of do on a normal basis is just little games just like that.
That I'm like, yeah, this is.
Speaker 4 My husband and I, I don't know if you've ever played Settlers of Catan.
Speaker 3 Oh, no.
Speaker 4 It sounds good. It's a board game.
Speaker 4 And there's a, you can play a version on your phone.
Speaker 4 We're not allowed to play that anymore.
Speaker 3
Yeah, I get it. I get it.
We're not allowed. I get it.
I get it. Bam and I used to play dominoes on our phone.
And it's like, I had to just delete it. I'm like.
Speaker 4 Yes.
Speaker 3 Let's just give it up.
Speaker 4
Yeah. Yeah.
There's
Speaker 4 a robber in the game that you can like put on someone's face so that they no longer get to like get points, we'll say, or like resources.
Speaker 4
That shit would piss me off. Like it was like he would hand the phone back and he wouldn't look at me.
And I'd be like, you motherfuckers.
Speaker 3
You already know what happened. You're like, ooh.
Uh-huh.
Speaker 4
He wouldn't look at me. He would just go like this and pass it sideways.
And I'd be like, Did you?
Speaker 3 Yeah.
Speaker 4 Oh, we're not allowed to, we're legitimately not allowed to play anymore.
Speaker 3 I get it. I get it.
Speaker 3
I get it. It's not bad.
Yeah.
Speaker 4 It's not good.
Speaker 3
And, but it's okay. It's what makes the relationship great.
I mean, I feel like the competitiveness is like what thrives the most in our relationship. It keeps us on our toes.
Speaker 3 Because I'm like, I'm not going down without a fight.
Speaker 3
You didn't lose. We're just going to be a little bit more than that.
Definitely.
Speaker 4 No, it's it. It adds a little spark.
Speaker 3 It does.
Speaker 4
You know, very quickly. Circling back to the W because the league is growing so much.
It's also bringing a lot more revenue.
Speaker 3 Oh, yeah.
Speaker 4
And something I did cover on the show previously was you and all the WNBA all-stars making a statement with the pay us what you owe us t-shirt. Yes.
Yes, yes, yes.
Speaker 4 I did mention when we talked about this on the show, big FAFO energy.
Speaker 4
And if you don't know what that is, it's fuck around, find out. It's fuck around, find out energy.
I like it. That's allowing people who have
Speaker 4 around yeah to indeed find out we love that for them we love that absolutely uh you've said it before the players are standing on business which i also love for anyone who isn't up to speed can you explain in basic terms what the players want to see accomplished yeah i think the biggest thing that we're trying to see accomplished is, like you said, this has been a big year for us, a big last couple of years for the W.
Speaker 3
And I think when you look in at social or anything, it's just like, okay, the value is going up. Everything's going up.
I mean, we're getting these TV deals.
Speaker 3 And so when you're thinking about that, you're like, okay, well, let's talk revenue share. Let's talk about that and how we can implement into our salaries.
Speaker 3 Because when you look around and you think about businesses, the biggest thing is the revenue share.
Speaker 3 Like if this is going up, the players and the product is going up and we're showing up every single day, our wallet should be doing the same.
Speaker 3 And so when you're talking about just.
Speaker 3
seeing that, I think the league is growing. And so for us, we have to sustain that by just getting equitable comps, excuse me, equitable compensation.
And I think that is so key.
Speaker 3 And that's what we're really just talking about is making sure that we're just united and understanding and letting the league understand that we're not going anywhere.
Speaker 3
We've earned everything that we have been fighting for. We are valuable and we're going to continue to show up as that.
as that.
Speaker 3
And I think that is what makes our league so powerful is that we know the power of our voice and our platform. And we're not going to stop until we get what we deserve.
But
Speaker 3 to see it and then to hear what they're saying and it doesn't add up, I think that's what's going to continue for us to not back down because we see a lot of things going on in the talks of our league and other leagues that are growing.
Speaker 3 And it's like, well, if they see that we're worth the buck, why can't our own league see it? And so it's going to take time, as we know, and it is taking time right now.
Speaker 3 But we're going to continue to stand on business for what we believe in and what we deserve.
Speaker 4 Now, what's the biggest misconception you often hear about this whole conversation?
Speaker 3 Oh, that we just want to get paid like the guys.
Speaker 3
I hate when people say that. And granted, I'm not a numbers girl.
I'm not at all. I'm far from that.
But I think the biggest thing is just meeting the fair agreement of what we are discussing.
Speaker 3
It's never what the NBA is doing. It's never, oh, we want pay them what we, what they got.
No, we understand that that's not how the business works.
Speaker 3 But we also understand that we're missing within our own business. The revenue share is missing in our own business and in our own checks.
Speaker 3 So I think people need to stop thinking about that way and just think more so of like okay yes they are saying pay them what they deserve and what you owe i think it's so important to to not only stand up for this change for you guys but also it's showing
Speaker 4 young women that
Speaker 4 as a unit yes of the women representing the W, that you guys are able to say, no, we're not going to accept less.
Speaker 4 I think it's crazy that the reports are coming out to show, like you said, the TV deals and the different things that are coming in at a significantly higher level, exponentially higher level than they have been in the past with the previous deal.
Speaker 4 And so to see that they're not willing to increase those percentages for you guys is absolutely insane.
Speaker 3 Yeah, and it is. And I think also people don't understand is like we're working to get a CBA that's not just necessarily for the ones that are playing in it now.
Speaker 3 We're talking about the ones that are coming after us, like making sure that they have, they don't have to go through what we're going through.
Speaker 3
And I think people don't understand that. And yes, we talk about salary, but at the same time, just having a good workspace to play in.
Like a lot of teams don't even have practice facilities.
Speaker 3
And it's just like, I'm blessed enough. Oh my goodness.
I know I'm blessed enough to have an owner and a franchise that are really player forward. They're like, what do they need?
Speaker 3 And we were the first.
Speaker 3 Yeah, I think we were one of the first WNBA teams to have a practice facility. And people wonder, oh, well, what makes the ACEs great? And why, why are they so great?
Speaker 3 And why are they constantly in the conversations? Because we have exactly what we need. And we don't have to come into work thinking and wondering, oh, is this going to work?
Speaker 3 Now I have to drive and share this court with people. Like, no, like, we don't have that problem.
Speaker 3 And so now it's kind of like making others owners or anyone else like, put your money where your mouth is and give us what we need. Not yes, what we deserve, but what we need.
Speaker 3 And so, yeah, we, there's a lot of work that needs to be done.
Speaker 3 Um, but yeah, I think that's what people really also don't understand: is like, yes, we're fighting now, but it's not just fighting for us and my check.
Speaker 3 I'm fighting for the young athletes that's coming up behind me.
Speaker 4 I also think that's so important to acknowledge the fact that the leadership that
Speaker 4 have the ability to
Speaker 4 maybe make sure that there is a specific practice facility or to make sure that the players have everything that they need. That they have bought into the W in a way that they have put
Speaker 4 a level of importance, right, on this league and the women in it. And so it is exactly what you're saying.
Speaker 4 Put the money where your mouth is, support these athletes the way that you, as ownership or as leadership in this league, should be prioritizing the athletes.
Speaker 3
Absolutely. 100%.
Agree.
Speaker 4
I cannot thank you enough for coming on. Thank you.
It has been an absolute pleasure to get to talk to you. And I always like to say this to women who are paving the way.
Speaker 4 I, with someone, as someone who has four daughters in their house, I am so grateful that they have someone like you to look up to and to see
Speaker 4 how hard you are working, your drive, your dedication to your sport,
Speaker 4 the way that you sort of present yourself, even when it's having fun in a press conference. I love that those are the examples that my girls have out in the world.
Speaker 4 So I really appreciate you and everything that you're doing.
Speaker 3
Thank you so much. You're amazing too.
Like you are unapologetically you. And we need a lot more women like that in this world to not be afraid to be that way.
Speaker 3
And honestly, every video I see of you, I'm like, that's right. Like, I just, I can't help myself.
I'm like, that's right. Like, stand on it.
Speaker 3 So I am a huge fan, and I can't thank you enough for thank you so much you like i love that like you are truly you and and we don't see a lot of people being that in these faces so thank you so much no thank you and uh i can't wait to see you in philly hopefully it's representing them but you never know at least you know we'll be i'll be there whether i'm on that side or not at least i'm there in the summer and i apologize ahead of time
