The Hockey Show: Panthers Legend Brad Marchand (feat. Sara Civian)

58m
Brad Marchand reached 1,000 points Thursday night, and he did it in a Florida Panthers uniform. Is Sara Civian prepared for him to go into the Hall of Fame as a Cat? The guys ask her about that, as well as the conflicting feelings of watching Joel Quennville having success with the Anaheim Ducks, the Edmonton Oilers' weird start to the year, and the hockey fashion at the upcoming 2026 Milan Olympics. Before that, the guys discuss this year's Hockey Hall of Fame class, Ryan O'Reilly's intensely critical comments of himself, and the unfortunate passing of legendary New York Rangers beat reporter, Larry Brooks. In wins and fails, David introduces us to Rink Dude, Roy celebrates Artemi Panarin's haircut, and Ethan celebrates Brad Marchand's career milestone that he was in attendance for. Finally, the boys step into the Panthers Den, where things have turned around recently after back-to-back wins for the Cats and wins in four of their last seven.

Speaker 1 Folks, losing at fantasy football has consequences.

Speaker 3 It really does. I mean, a new tattoo, a bad haircut, waffle challenges.

Speaker 6 I've seen those waffle challenges.

Speaker 5 Those look delightful.

Speaker 7 You're stressing me out with that soundboard.

Speaker 8 Well, fantasy football is stressful.

Speaker 9 So stressful that it can lead to nighttime teeth grinding.

Speaker 10 Dentech's mouth guards help with nighttime teeth grinding.

Speaker 1 I'm actually a grinder, and it's a problem I have. And that's why Dentech wants to protect your teeth while raising the stakes with this fantasy season.
This is very exciting.

Speaker 15 If you don't, you must be one of those people who enjoy overpaying for their phone plans, for their internet, for everything in their life. But it's not too late to change your ways, by the way.

Speaker 15 25 bucks a month forever is truly as good as it gets. So go online and switch now at boostmobile.com.

Speaker 17 One guy has a thousand points, another guy is a crybaby. This is the hockey show.

Speaker 17 David Druck is to my left. He's with the hockey news.
Ethan is in that chair over there. And Rosie is in Athens, Georgia with Lucy Rodine.

Speaker 16 Please be safe.

Speaker 17 I know your travel last week was not great. So be careful out there.
Shutdown's over.

Speaker 7 In good hands. Mally's driving.

Speaker 18 Yeah.

Speaker 20 No.

Speaker 21 Really? I think, yeah.

Speaker 20 Pretty sure Mally's driving.

Speaker 22 Yeah, that's the safest hands for sure in that car.

Speaker 17 Yeah, compared to the other one, yes. Go Dogs.
My name is Roy Bellamy.

Speaker 16 Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, that is nonsense.

Speaker 2 We do not pedal that kind of nonsense on this show.

Speaker 17 Go Dogs. Yeah, Go Tigers.

Speaker 17 My name is Roy Bellamy. This is The Hockey Show.
We are on YouTube. Please follow us there at the hockey show DLS.

Speaker 17 We got TikTok at the Hockey Show 7 and we got X Instagram and Threads at Hockey Show DLS.

Speaker 17 Apologies to my voice for my voice because yesterday was not a good day.

Speaker 17 Anyway, Hockey Hall of Fame inductions happened this week. Joe Thornton, Siddhanio Chara, Duncan Keith, Alexander Mogioni.
It's about time for that.

Speaker 17 Jennifer Botaro, Brianna Decker, they all went in as players.

Speaker 17 As you can tell, my voice is off. Jack Parker and Danielle Savaggio went in in the Builders category.
Now,

Speaker 17 let's look at the players over here. Now, Duncan Keefe is in the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 17 Everything because of what happened in Chicago, three-time Standing Cup champion. That man, I would say

Speaker 17 Gustav Forsling, as far as durability and longevity, is right there. I mean, he is an Ironman on the ice.
And he had one short year stint in Edmonton. He got in within three years of his retirement.

Speaker 17 Got in really, really quickly. So, yeah, congratulations to him.

Speaker 16 Joe Thornton.

Speaker 7 Jumbo.

Speaker 17 Yeah,

Speaker 17 I thought he was the missing piece in Boston when he was drafted there. And it did not work out.
He got traded to San Jose.

Speaker 17 Got to his one Stanley Cup final. Unfortunately, did not win.
And you know why I'm saying unfortunately

Speaker 20 what happened in that series?

Speaker 7 Yeah, yeah. And that was the one that Flurry didn't start, right?

Speaker 17 I believe it was, yes.

Speaker 16 I believe it was.

Speaker 17 Sedanio Chowra.

Speaker 17 Now, he started his career, as Royan Gretzky said, could not skate at all.

Speaker 13 He's just big.

Speaker 17 Yeah, I mean, he's too big to skate. But then the man got his game much better.
He worked on his game and became a Hall of Famer

Speaker 17 and was basically one of the best leaders, best captains in the league.

Speaker 7 He just had to get off the island, like so many players in that time.

Speaker 7 He just had to get out of there, like Ole Yokin.

Speaker 17 Yeah, like that was a terrible Allanders team, man.

Speaker 16 Terrible.

Speaker 17 Alexander Mulgilni, it took a long time, a long time for the man to get his flowers and to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Finally, the 1992-93 season with the Buffalo Sabers.

Speaker 16 God.

Speaker 17 That season right there, that's Hall of Fame level. 76 goals.

Speaker 25 Oh, my God, dude.

Speaker 17 Yeah. Jennifer Bunnerille, Breonna Decker, gold medal-winning winning Olympians.
They deserve to be in there. So congratulations to them.

Speaker 17 Alexander Mogili, though, I got to get back to this. One Stanley Cup win with the New Jersey Devils, over a thousand points.
I think they

Speaker 17 definitely got this one right, this Hall of Fame class, David.

Speaker 21 Yeah, this was a good one, right?

Speaker 7 It's just a lot of head nodding. Like, yep, I get that one.
I get that one. And then when you throw in Mogilney, along with the likes of Keith, with Jumbo, like, yeah, this is a good one.

Speaker 7 The only thing missing is a goalie, right?

Speaker 17 Yeah, yeah. No goaltenders in this year's class.

Speaker 7 I mean, like, they've done good with the goalies. You know, Henrik, Parasso, Vernon, I think, is going to be in, like, the next, like, the Vernon Richters are going to be maybe in the next,

Speaker 7 you know, come around of when they come back to goaltenders. But no, we're good.
And then we saw a goalie go in not long.

Speaker 6 What do you mean by when they come back around to goaltenders?

Speaker 22 Well, I feel like it comes in ebbs and flows.

Speaker 2 So, like, they just only decide to elect goalie certain years.

Speaker 26 No, no, no.

Speaker 7 There's no criteria. I just think it's come in ebbs and flows when we've seen goalies come and then we don't get a couple of goalies and we're like, where are the goalies?

Speaker 7 And then you get a few goalies. So I feel like we're about to go into like a dry spell for a couple of years before you bring them back in.

Speaker 2 Can I ask you guys something?

Speaker 3 How would you compare the difficulty of getting into the hockey hall of fame to other sports like baseball?

Speaker 24 I know basketball, like everybody gets into the basketball hall of fame, but how would you say where would you say hockey ranks among the like the four major sports?

Speaker 17 I would think that it would be probably

Speaker 17 second easiest to get in.

Speaker 17 uh and baseball is definitely the hardest because yeah the media is subjective and petty yeah so the most petty and they've i mean the hall has given many as far as baseball hall of fame has given many chances to the uh ped era players i mean barry bonds is it's ridiculous yeah he's not in it's ridiculous they weren't breaking the rules

Speaker 7 it was really entertaining i don't know

Speaker 7 that that was it 97 that was fun yeah 98 98 that was awesome 97 was fun too.

Speaker 25 Oh, yeah, that's right.

Speaker 7 97 was the World Series. 98 was the Meduer.

Speaker 7 But I remember I went to a couple of those Marlins games where it went from like 2,000 fans on Wednesday to 20,000 fans on Thursday because Meduire was there.

Speaker 7 One of my high school TV production classmates, he was the kid that ran out there and fell through the tarp for the home run. That was him.

Speaker 17 Billy.

Speaker 7 I remember you, buddy.

Speaker 14 David Chris Cody.

Speaker 17 and I, as well as Danny Benitez and

Speaker 17 toe, went to cover Roberto Lurongo's Hall of Fame induction in Toronto. That was cold.
You have a story for that.

Speaker 7 Am I allowed to tell that story? You used to give me really dirty looks when I would tell that story, so I stopped telling it for a little while.

Speaker 17 You might as well. I'm trying to kill time here on this clock.

Speaker 25 Go ahead.

Speaker 23 You've piqued my interest.

Speaker 7 So when we went for the all-star, or for the excuse me, for the Lurongo's Hall of Fame induction, the way that they do it at the ceremony is they have like a red carpet outside, outside the Meridian Theater, which is right across the street from the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Speaker 7 So we set up, we had a great spot on the red carpet right where players were walking in, just on the corner. It was a perfect spot.

Speaker 7 There was a spot across the street to get coffee and stuff, which comes in.

Speaker 17 No, it's Tim Hortons.

Speaker 16 Yeah.

Speaker 7 So about, I don't know, we're out there for what, about an hour?

Speaker 17 Yeah, just about.

Speaker 7 And it was really cold. And people are swinging through.
Panthers brass are swinging through. And up comes Brian McCabe, longtime Panthers player,

Speaker 7 front ops, hockey ops, front office guy. And we're interviewing him.

Speaker 16 Yeah.

Speaker 7 We get a few questions in.

Speaker 7 Literally, Roy freezes. It was so cold that Roy froze in the moment.
He's

Speaker 17 everything shut down on me.

Speaker 16 It was bad, man.

Speaker 17 Like, I felt like I thought I was prepared,

Speaker 17 but I guess I'm basing this off of South Florida. Cold.
I haven't been in

Speaker 17 Canadian

Speaker 31 or whatever.

Speaker 7 What summer was it? It was like November.

Speaker 16 It was November. How cold was it? It was probably like 24, 20, 30.
Oh, yeah, 24. It was cold.

Speaker 7 But we were like layered up.

Speaker 26 Yeah, properly.

Speaker 26 Like, you didn't expect the cold.

Speaker 7 You know, we had like a shirt, a sweater, a jacket, but you know, I don't think we had like proper insulation. No, that's right.

Speaker 14 Like the underarm or whatever.

Speaker 30 You got to have a coat on.

Speaker 7 Double socks.

Speaker 17 I saw that as Brian McCabe, but I was so cold that I completely blinked. And also, this is one of the first few times that I'm actually doing interviews with anybody.
So there's that too.

Speaker 17 So I'm over here thinking of questions and then realizing, oh, crap.

Speaker 7 What is your name?

Speaker 17 What is your name, Brian McGurg?

Speaker 17 A man who I've seen

Speaker 17 for, what, about 20 years?

Speaker 17 Yeah, about the Forest Panthers days, a while, yeah.

Speaker 7 Yeah.

Speaker 16 As a Toronto Maple Leaf, mostly.

Speaker 7 He played it off well, though. Like, he seemed to get it.
Yeah. You know, he didn't give you any shit.

Speaker 16 Yeah.

Speaker 17 He knew I was cold. And he saw me run off to the Tim Morton to get that hot shot.

Speaker 7 He disappeared for like 20 minutes.

Speaker 17 Yeah, I was waiting in line.

Speaker 31 Oh, my God. Yeah, so yeah.

Speaker 17 But that was a fun few days aside from your literal brain freeze you had ramen for the first time on that trip thanks to you and danny and chris that was yummy yeah yeah man that was some good ramen dude oh man that was delicious had egg and i had a nice soft-boiled egg and i did not eat the egg yeah that's the best part of ramen dude that's like literally my favorite part is i get extra egg whenever i get ramen i don't like eggs i did recently i've always

Speaker 7 i've been saying like forever how like omelets seem so delicious because you're taking all of your favorite foods and flavors and putting them together.

Speaker 7 But I realized that I have, there is an omelette that I can eat, and I've been eating it for years, and it's the same thing. It's a mixture of different flavors inside something delicious.

Speaker 7 It's called cow zone, and I've been eating those my whole life.

Speaker 26 So at least

Speaker 7 I got that going for me.

Speaker 17 I mean, every baked good has egg in it.

Speaker 14 Almost every baked good.

Speaker 7 You don't taste the egg. That's the thing.

Speaker 29 But egg adds a little bit of extra flavor that's like really good to certain things.

Speaker 2 Like certain things come with.

Speaker 22 Like, have you ever had an egg everything bagel?

Speaker 5 Yeah, and I like them.

Speaker 7 Delicious.

Speaker 3 So then you would like eggs.

Speaker 7 You would think so. You would think so.

Speaker 16 Interesting. Ryan.
Very intriguing.

Speaker 30 We're going to get more to the bottom of this throughout the weeks coming up.

Speaker 17 Ryan O'Reilly was tough on himself after the Predators lost to the Flyers this week. Tougher than I usually hear athletes talk about themselves.
And here is what he had to say about himself.

Speaker 35 I know for myself, number one center, and turn the puck over everywhere.

Speaker 35 Can't make a six-foot pass to save my life. So

Speaker 35 we're not going to have much success if

Speaker 35 I'm playing pathetic like that. So it's

Speaker 35 stupid. I don't know the answer.
I've had one

Speaker 35 good year in my career.

Speaker 35 I don't have any answers, that's for sure.

Speaker 17 Well, according to our friend Greg Rashinsky of ESPN on Monday, O'Reilly walked back to his self-defecating comments because, apparently, he came off as a crybaby.

Speaker 17 Now, maybe it sounded like woe is me on that situation there, but... I mean, that's why he's a leader.

Speaker 17 That's why he's the alternate captain on that team. I mean, it starts with him, right?

Speaker 17 So to me, I think it's pretty refreshing that he's actually placing mostly the blame on the Predators Rose, who, by the way, are the second worst team in the Western Conference at last check,

Speaker 17 who lost,

Speaker 16 I believe, five in a row now?

Speaker 17 Five in a row. They may have played last night, but

Speaker 17 they lost three in a row last night.

Speaker 7 According to the standing.

Speaker 17 And yeah, I mean, it's been bad. But just, it's on, he's saying it's on him.

Speaker 10 This clip makes me feel so bad for Ryan O'Reilly, though.

Speaker 3 Like,

Speaker 3 where is his mental state at that he's coming at himself like that?

Speaker 27 Like, Ryan O'Reilly is a good player.

Speaker 21 He's been a good player for a long time.

Speaker 9 He won a Kant Smythe. He want a Selkie.

Speaker 10 Like, he's been on good teams and been a good player and a productive player on good teams.

Speaker 14 Like, he hasn't only had one good season.

Speaker 5 I just, this clip just made me feel bad for him.

Speaker 24 Like, I came away sad when I saw this.

Speaker 7 He just struck me as a pissed-off athlete after a bad game. Like, I didn't really think too much into it.
And you were right, they have lost five in a row. It's the first two were in overtime.

Speaker 7 But they've also lost eight of nine

Speaker 7 and 12 of 15.

Speaker 7 And it's not good. I feel bad for our boy Bruno out there in Nashville.
It's not going very well. But yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 7 I really didn't think this was much more than a guy who's just playing on a real shitty team. He's not happy with the way he's playing.
And he just kind of, you know, let it out.

Speaker 24 It's crazy how fast that Nashville thing has just gone the complete opposite direction. Like they won the offseason last year.
They signed Brady Shea. They signed Jonathan Marchesau.

Speaker 24 They signed Steven Stamkos.

Speaker 9 And now

Speaker 3 at least two of those players are hot

Speaker 30 trade candidates.

Speaker 2 They're probably going to fire their coach here soon.

Speaker 17 They might fire the general manager.

Speaker 30 Yeah, well, if they fire their,

Speaker 6 or they're going to have their general manager come downstairs and coach the team and try and wail the team out of this.

Speaker 2 But it's just an ugly mess.

Speaker 14 Pat Riley's situation.

Speaker 2 It's just an ugly mess in Nashville right now.

Speaker 9 That roster is kind of nowhere.

Speaker 3 They don't have any center depth.

Speaker 9 Like, I don't know what you do because you're not going to get a lot for Stamco's.

Speaker 2 His contract's really expensive.

Speaker 30 You're not going to get a lot for Marcius.

Speaker 29 So, his contract's really expensive.

Speaker 28 Like, Ryan O'Reilly is a guy you might move.

Speaker 5 You're not going to move Roman Yossi.

Speaker 30 They would riot in the streets in Nashville if you did that.

Speaker 2 So, Yusi Soros is a guy that could be on the move.

Speaker 4 Hint Edmonton.

Speaker 9 Very interesting situation there, and I have no idea what you do other than blow it up because that's basically the only option at this point.

Speaker 17 Well, I guess O'Reilly's going to have to ask Soros about his financial portfolio again because he might need a new house.

Speaker 16 No goals. No goals.

Speaker 17 We lost the legend covering the NHL this week. Larry Brooks, who covers the New York Rangers for the New York Post.

Speaker 17 He's had plenty of run-ins with players and coaches, specifically John Totorella. And Tortz gave a very nice tribute to him.
This is how it sounded.

Speaker 36 This is a man that just passed.

Speaker 36 Jordan, Joanna, two grandkids.

Speaker 36 2018 Hall of Famer. He's an icon.

Speaker 36 We had our disagreements, right, along the way. But

Speaker 36 the thing I always respected about Larry is no matter what the day brought, him and I disagree. And we had a lot of disagreements.

Speaker 36 But we disagree and we go at it, but he'd be there the next day, right, ready to ask another question. He'd be there face to face.
I just had so much respect on how hard he worked at his job.

Speaker 36 We're both trying to do our business, right? I need to protect my hockey team sometimes. He needs to, he has information and he has information.
That's one thing. He worked at it to get information.

Speaker 36 And sometimes we butted heads, but it was never a personal thing.

Speaker 36 The accolades that he's receiving,

Speaker 36 the award in 18 is so well deserved as far as, look at his resume. He grinded.
He's a grinder and turned into an icon in this business.

Speaker 17 Yeah, Rangers fans read what he wrote every single time.

Speaker 16 And

Speaker 17 you have a story about him.

Speaker 17 You loved his stories, is what I was just saying.

Speaker 20 Oh, yeah.

Speaker 7 I mean, Larry Brooks' Sunday column was like one of the first things I can remember being able to read from down here just because I had family that was from New York.

Speaker 7 They would get paper delivered down here.

Speaker 7 Yeah, it's just,

Speaker 7 it kind of hit me in the face. I didn't know he was sick.

Speaker 7 I had the pleasure of meeting him a few times over the last few years when we've covered some of the bigger events where a lot of the lead comes together.

Speaker 7 And yeah, I mean, you know, I'm thinking about a lot of the careers that he impacted. Emily Kaplan.

Speaker 19 Man.

Speaker 7 Yeah, it sucks. All right, up in New York.
It's just like, I mean, I'm sorry I'm at a loss for words, but I'm just sad, man. It just sucks.

Speaker 22 Yeah, rest in peace there, Brooksy.

Speaker 17 We're going to miss you on that one.

Speaker 17 Yeah,

Speaker 17 that's tough.

Speaker 17 So we're going to lighten the mood here and we're gonna go into Rosa and in Minuto as my throat continues to suck.

Speaker 16 Go ahead, go ahead and play a thing.

Speaker 37 Hi, kids. I'm here with Mali.
We're going to Athens, so I'm doing my one minute in the car. So, here we go.
Oh,

Speaker 37 holi, because we're not going to go

Speaker 37 vamos, no vamos a piece of no pason nada literal.

Speaker 37 This is something that

Speaker 37 I say,

Speaker 37 they can't do the

Speaker 37 best. If you have a ranger, and we will

Speaker 37 be aware of the porcupine.

Speaker 37 Ah, and this analysis, you're gonna like it. Since the closest, you know,

Speaker 37 the clearing, the patient,

Speaker 37 two,

Speaker 37 several motion, and yo cases

Speaker 37 in the highlights. This combined

Speaker 19 with gross.

Speaker 37 Proceed,

Speaker 37 passion,

Speaker 17 So, uh,

Speaker 17 she did that with the windows down, huh?

Speaker 7 Thank God she wasn't driving.

Speaker 17 I'm shocked she was, I'm completely shocked she wasn't driving. So, that was uh Rosa in un minuto.
Thank you very much for that, Rose. And now it's time for Rose in a minute.

Speaker 17 And in her stead is Cynthia.

Speaker 18 How are we supposed to follow that up?

Speaker 17 With in English, that's how you're supposed to follow that up. Go ahead, Rose.
Go ahead, Cynthia.

Speaker 16 Here Here we go.

Speaker 38 Hey, kids, this is one minute of hockey with Rose, and this week we're heading to Pittsburgh, where absolutely nothing happened.

Speaker 38 Literally, the Penguins played two games, lost both, and it gave me the most boring week since I started this segment. First, a 2-1 shootout lost to the Devils.

Speaker 38 Slip made a great save and then fell apart in the shootouts.

Speaker 18 Okay, there you go.

Speaker 38 You got it. Someone please help him.
Then a 3-2 loss to the Kings.

Speaker 38 Viala celebrated his five 500th point murash murashav made his debut

Speaker 38 and the penguins just kind of existed oh and roy you're gonna love this oh yeah from this sydney crosby showed up physically his impact emotionally unavailable so yeah two losses zero excitement this was one minute with rose sorry this was one minute of hockey with rose slash cynthia your weekly recap of puck passion and a little bit of chaos through this week the penguins weren't sliding they were waddling.

Speaker 37 Woo!

Speaker 16 Thank you, Cynthia. That is,

Speaker 14 I can never do what Rose does.

Speaker 34 God bless her.

Speaker 31 Well, at least you tried.

Speaker 17 Let's see what we got here: Selavs, Fiala, Murashov. Those are the names that were mentioned, and I will not say the other name that was also mentioned because definitely, you know.

Speaker 17 All right, it is time

Speaker 17 for stat of the week.

Speaker 19 The Hockey Stat of the Week.

Speaker 20 Hey guys.

Speaker 20 Hi, Ethan.

Speaker 6 I'm the stat nerd around these parts.

Speaker 23 So I'm going to give you a stat of the week.

Speaker 2 My style of the week this week, we've talked a little bit about Carter Verhe this year, and we've talked about how he's been really quiet on the score sheet, right?

Speaker 9 And I went last night to the game and I was like, I really want to see what's going on with Carter Verhage.

Speaker 9 He's just not putting the puck in the net. And I'm going to tell you guys why.

Speaker 29 Right now, my style of the week, Carter Verhe

Speaker 17 is

Speaker 23 bottom on the Florida Panthers in goals above expected with minus 3.5 goals above expected.

Speaker 20 He is shooting,

Speaker 32 I believe, 4.9% this year.

Speaker 32 For reference, his career low before this season in shooting percentage was 8.3%.

Speaker 33 The point I'm trying to make here is that Carter Hagee, we talked about Sam Reinhart being a regression candidate last year.

Speaker 9 Carver Hagee is a regression candidate.

Speaker 6 Eventually, the puck's going to go in in the net for Verhe. He's going to start shooting, finding his shooting touch again.

Speaker 9 He's going to start pouring in the goals, and that's when the Florida Panthers offense is really going to be unlocked.

Speaker 6 We'll see if it comes when Marshan, when Matthew Kachuk returns to the lineup, but I'm banking on that right now.

Speaker 9 Carter Verhey, he's going to turn it around.

Speaker 16 All right, there you go.

Speaker 17 Yeah, those boys need to, they need to finish. They absolutely need to finish.
There have been way too many games where they have either missed the net or, as usual, got their shot blocks.

Speaker 17 So they have got to finish on these shots, man.

Speaker 17 It's time for wins and fails of the the week, presented by Jagenmeister. Serve a cold or don't serve it at all.
Jagenmeister, damn, that's cold. For more, visit Jagenmeister.com drink responsibly.

Speaker 17 God damn it.

Speaker 26 Wow.

Speaker 7 I wasn't sure if that smile was you just upset talking about alcoholics. You haven't had any in so long, or if it was for the voice crack.

Speaker 16 It's for the voice crack, man. I mean, listen to me.

Speaker 7 Don't listen to me. This is like Teenage Roy.

Speaker 7 Fubrecent. This is Roy that was watching the Panthers go to the Stanley Cup final in 96.
Oh, yeah.

Speaker 38 Yeah, Melon B.

Speaker 16 All right, Skinner Meyer. Yay!

Speaker 7 All right, there you go. My win of the week, we're going out to Colorado for a young eight-year-old by the name of Luke Graham, who's becoming better known to the hockey world as the Rink Dude.

Speaker 7 He created his own brand called Rink Dude. You can see in the, if you're watching on YouTube, you can see the gear.
There's hats, there's hoodies, there's stick wax.

Speaker 7 The whole point of this business that he started was to raise money for kids who can't afford to play hockey. This is one of the coolest things I've heard in a long time.

Speaker 7 I actually reached out to them to find out where we can get their gear if we're not in Colorado. They said that they have a website that's launching within days is what I'm told.

Speaker 7 But he's on Instagram at RinkDude. Nice and simple.
It's just a really cool thing. His dad's actually former NHL goalie John Graham, who won a Stanley Cup with the Lightning, 22 years ago now.

Speaker 7 But this is just awesome. I love it.
I love everything about it. Rink Dude, you'll see me supporting their gear in the not too distant future, hopefully.

Speaker 17 All right, my win of the week comes from the bald head of our Timmy Panarin. Through the first 14 games of the season, Panarin, with hair, scored two goals, five assists, and was a minus five.

Speaker 17 And since then, he has shaved his head, and since then, he has scored three goals, six assists, and was a plus four.

Speaker 18 That's

Speaker 16 a stand, too.

Speaker 17 Yeah, so there you go. Very good decision to shave his head.
Now he is doing his job, making his money.

Speaker 16 And second arrangers a little bit better.

Speaker 7 The bread has risen. Is that what bread does? Does it rise in the oven? If it has yeast, yes.
So he got yeast.

Speaker 16 Eat then.

Speaker 6 My win of the week comes from last night, boys.

Speaker 2 Something we'll certainly talk about in the Panthers den. Brad Marshan scored his 1,000th point of his career last night, and this was such an awesome moment.

Speaker 28 I was at the game and the whole Panthers team poured out of the bench.

Speaker 4 And I was kind of like, it took me a second to realize why they were doing it.

Speaker 6 And then as the whole team came out, I was like, oh, this is Marshan's Stalton point.

Speaker 30 And it's just an amazing moment for him.

Speaker 3 I mean, the way he's been embraced by the team.

Speaker 30 And then this afterwards as well, this picture, look at the legendary

Speaker 9 amount of legend in this picture.

Speaker 2 Sergei Borovsky, Alex Ovechkin, and Brad Marshan.

Speaker 2 There's over like 2,000 combined points in that picture, 437 wins, and five Stanley Cups, three Hall of Famers.

Speaker 9 Just an awesome picture after the game.

Speaker 4 And great moment for Brad Marshan.

Speaker 17 All right, what's your fail, David?

Speaker 7 My fail of the week. I gotta

Speaker 7 turn the negative eye to the goalie union, my fellow goaltenders.

Speaker 7 There was a game earlier this week between the New York Rangers and the Tampa Bay Lightning, two of the best goaltenders in the NHL, Idor Shusturkin and Andre Vasilevsky.

Speaker 7 This is a take-the-under situation, right?

Speaker 18 Wrong.

Speaker 17 No, if you took the over in the first period, you won.

Speaker 7 Dude, if you took the over in the first five minutes, you won, man.

Speaker 7 I don't know what the hell happened in this game, but those two former Vezano-winning goaltenders gave up seven goals combined on 18 shots in the first period. What the hell is going on?

Speaker 7 I mean, exciting game for the fans, I'm sure, but that's a disgrace for goaltenders everywhere. I don't know what the was going on.

Speaker 7 These are two of my favorite guys to watch, and I was reaching for the vomit bag watching this one. It was just ugly.

Speaker 17 The guy in the goaltenders union, you are pretty critical.

Speaker 7 Dude, I'd be critical of myself, man. I mean, that's like a men's league performance from hell.

Speaker 17 Okay, my favorite of the week comes from the commissioner of the National Hockey League.

Speaker 20 All right.

Speaker 17 We mentioned the Hall of Fame induction earlier in the show, and it came time to induct Joe Thornton. As you know, as Dave mentioned earlier, his nickname is Jumbo.
That is not what Gary Bettman said.

Speaker 22 He said this.

Speaker 40 Played, and that's what Duncan and Z, Alexander and Dumbo.

Speaker 16 Jumbo, not Dumbo.

Speaker 32 Sorry, sorry, Jumbo.

Speaker 40 Jen and Brianna, and then...

Speaker 17 Yeah,

Speaker 16 that's an error.

Speaker 17 That's the Q1 on Gary Bettman.

Speaker 10 He did a Chris Cody.

Speaker 9 Duncan and Jumbo Dumbo.

Speaker 17 All right, it's time for Puck Luck brought to you by DraftKings. DraftKings, the crown is yours.
David, please make these people money.

Speaker 7 I'm trying, dude. We came so close last week.
Damn San Jose sharks.

Speaker 7 All right, so this week, we're going to take the Carolina puck line today. They are hosting the Vancouver Canooks.

Speaker 27 Vancouver Canucks.

Speaker 7 Carolina is coming off a frustrating 4-1 loss to the Capitals, and they're on two days' rest, whereas Vancouver has given up 10 goals in their last two games, both back-to-back losses.

Speaker 7 So I like Carolina at home tonight. I also like Nikolai Ehlers going over the 2.5 shots on goal prop.
He's hit that in five of his last six, and he had four shots or more in all five of those.

Speaker 7 So he's been humming along. And then later on, there's the St.
Louis Blues hosting the Philadelphia Flyers in that game. I like Blues forward Dylan Holloway to go over his shot prop at 1.5.

Speaker 7 He's hit that in six of his last seven. Full parlay odds on this little magic is plus 452.
So go win yourself some money.

Speaker 17 That was puck luck. All right, last night in the press box at the Capitals Panthers game, it was pointed out to me that I'm older than every single player in the National Hockey League.

Speaker 16 That did not make me happy.

Speaker 27 Brent Burns,

Speaker 17 god damn it.

Speaker 20 You are old.

Speaker 17 I sound old now. Brent Burns, who is currently playing, still doing the damn thing with the Colorado Avalanche, is the oldest player in the league right now.
He was born in March 1985.

Speaker 17 I was born in July of 1984. That's 10 months.

Speaker 17 10 months.

Speaker 29 That's 14 months.

Speaker 30 He was born in March of 85, and you were born in January of 84.

Speaker 27 That's 14 months.

Speaker 17 Is that 14 months?

Speaker 17 Yeah, because

Speaker 29 you're a year and two months older than him.

Speaker 17 I was told there would be no math.

Speaker 17 Isn't that your line usually?

Speaker 7 Yeah. No, I'm still trying to do it in my head.
I haven't even gotten to that line.

Speaker 17 14 and a half months.

Speaker 13 There you go.

Speaker 17 Yeah.

Speaker 17 Yeah.

Speaker 16 Yeah. I'm old, Dave.

Speaker 17 And so are you, actually, because you're older than I am.

Speaker 7 So, how do you think that makes me feel? How about a little older?

Speaker 16 Yeah.

Speaker 17 Yeah, I'm not happy about that. So, yes, it is official.
We are the oldest show

Speaker 16 that covers hockey everywhere.

Speaker 27 I keep you guys young, don't you?

Speaker 7 Yeah, Ethan and Rose bring down the average age on the show. They hooked us up in that regard.

Speaker 17 All right, we mentioned the Team Canada hockey jerseys, and we are going to get into the rest of the Olympic jerseys with Sarah Sivian of Too Many Men and the Bleacher Report.

Speaker 17 She's a friend of the show, and she is a fascinista.

Speaker 23 Yes, she is.

Speaker 7 She knows way more about it than we do.

Speaker 17 Yeah, and I'm sure she probably does not like the jerseys as well.

Speaker 7 I want to know what she has to say, to be honest.

Speaker 17 I mean, I mean, Amin and Jeremy like the jerseys.

Speaker 7 Differing opinions.

Speaker 17 So, I differ in opinions. So, if you're on DKN, you can watch that interview on YouTube.
Sarah Sivian is coming up next.

Speaker 17 You know how most home security systems wait until after something bad happens? Just like a goalie just standing there until the puck's already in the net.

Speaker 16 That's reactive.

Speaker 17 Simply safe, on the other hand, well, that's Sergei Pobrovsky and Net, it's proactive protection.

Speaker 17 The new active guard outdoor protection uses AI-powered cameras and real monitoring agents who spot trouble before it happens.

Speaker 17 If someone's lurking around, they'll talk to them, hit the lights, sound the alarm, even call the cops, all before anything gets through. That's a shutout-level defense.

Speaker 17 No contracts, no hidden fees, and named best home security system by U.S.

Speaker 16 News and World Report five years running.

Speaker 17 I've got Simply Safe at the house, and let's just say, nothing is getting past it. Right now, our listeners get exclusive early access to Simply Safe's Black Friday sale.
Save 60% on any new system.

Speaker 17 This is their biggest deal of the year, so don't wait. Go to simply safe.com/slash DLB.
Again, that's simply safe.com/slash DLB. There's no safe like Simply Safe.

Speaker 17 Sarah Sebian of the Bleacher Report and Too Many Men joins us here, and we are going to get into fashion, specifically these awful Olympic uniforms that especially Team Canada is wearing in February if they actually get a game off in time, because apparently they are not ready.

Speaker 17 The ice is going to be bad.

Speaker 25 They got to build the rink.

Speaker 17 They got to build a rink just in time for the Olympics. Yeah, let's do that.

Speaker 17 In your newsletter, you are asking the question: should the NHL eliminate the point that teams get when they go past regulation?

Speaker 7 The loser point.

Speaker 17 So

Speaker 17 what do you think? What has the other media members that covered this sport have been saying?

Speaker 41 Yeah, it's hilarious. I'm still working on the story because Jeff Merrick called me about it and changed the entire trajectory of the story.

Speaker 41 He said something so creative that he wants there to be a shootout before every game. So that can be the tie after.
I'm like, wait, I didn't know that was an option. So there's a warm-up shootout.

Speaker 41 But a lot of people, I mean, David, you're the only one that was kind of in favor of keeping it the way it is.

Speaker 41 But like, I think we'd be complaining about it in any situation, even if it wasn't the loser point, right?

Speaker 41 This, I guess when they brought in overtime, it seemed like the fairest way to score more goals. But now we are in a goal scoring era and the stats have shown that it hasn't really helped make.

Speaker 41 people score more goals. In fact, in the third period, sometimes like teams are smartly kind of skating boring, like getting to that,

Speaker 41 the result of having an extra point. Did you see that?

Speaker 30 Did you see the end of the Flyers Oilers game the other night?

Speaker 3 The Flyers literally just skated out the puck for like 30 seconds, just passing back and forth.

Speaker 7 It's like college basketball in the 80s.

Speaker 41 Yeah, it's so lazy. It makes me want to not like the teams that do that.
Like, I've had it out for the Islanders forever when they've been doing that. That's not really the case with them anymore.

Speaker 41 So that's good. But oh my goodness, you look at the Pacific.
It's just like the amount of loser points in there, like something needs to change.

Speaker 17 All right, let's get into these Olympic jerseys now. Why don't you take the lead on this one, Dave?

Speaker 7 I don't like Canada's jersey.

Speaker 7 Let's start there, I guess.

Speaker 7 I mean, I don't like the 3D-looking logo, Sarah. I will start with that.

Speaker 7 I just feel like, and it might look, it'd be one of those situations where it looks a lot better in person than it does in photographs.

Speaker 7 I know that we've seen some over the last few years that kind of fell into that category, but I'm not a fan.

Speaker 7 But the one in the middle, if you're looking at what I'm looking at, the all-black one with the black logo on black jersey, jersey,

Speaker 7 I mean, I think Roy said it best that it looks like a garbage bag.

Speaker 17 No, no, no, no. I didn't say it looked like no.

Speaker 20 The material looks like a garbage bag.

Speaker 17 Literally. I said that it looked like the costume of the gimp in pop fiction.

Speaker 7 Yes. So both accurate, I think.
But just overall, I'm not a fan, but I don't know fashion at all. Clearly, I mean, look what I'm wearing.
But Sarah, what's your take?

Speaker 7 Is the Canada jersey as bad as I think it is and Roy thinks it is and Ethan thinks it is?

Speaker 41 My thing is when it comes to Hockey Canada and the Maple Leaf, it's such an iconic fixture in the sport.

Speaker 41 Just if you're not going to do something truly crazy with it, just leave it as it is traditionally. You know what I mean? I feel like if it's not broke, don't fix it.

Speaker 41 And it's kind of like an iconic fixture. Like I said, like it's the Red Wings jersey.

Speaker 41 Like just don't, if you're going to actually make an alteration to it, make it something like truly obscure and wild or just leave it alone, right?

Speaker 16 Amen.

Speaker 33 Their Four Nations look was so good.

Speaker 6 They should have just kind of of stuck with that kind of style.

Speaker 27 It was so good.

Speaker 17 Yeah.

Speaker 24 And Canada usually always looks good, as much as I hate to admit that, but they look terrible.

Speaker 33 What do you think of the Slovakia jerseys, Sarah?

Speaker 23 I love these.

Speaker 18 These are awesome.

Speaker 11 They're all right.

Speaker 41 They're the same. Thank you for giving me a look.
It just reminds me of Chara.

Speaker 19 I love,

Speaker 41 love him. I also,

Speaker 41 yeah, I mean, I think it's so hard when it comes to like

Speaker 41 representation of country jerseys because it's like okay what color is your country what crest is your country like all you can have to go off is how much that slays so that slays and the jersey looks good like you can't really mess it up you know what i mean i like the mountains if you can put that up back up for a second i didn't really notice at first the mountain background yeah i said it was the same mountains yeah

Speaker 7 well what if like the avalanche forget about the colors just like if the avalanche did a jersey with like the mountain background you put the colorado logo there in front you give them an add of the avalanche color scheme that would look pretty dope.

Speaker 41 That's cool. Yeah.
I do like those kind of like understated emblems of whatever nationality, whatever the

Speaker 41 pros are there. So I like that.
Yes.

Speaker 17 All right, let's move on to Finland. Finland as

Speaker 13 the lion.

Speaker 27 These are so badass.

Speaker 16 I think these are what they usually do.

Speaker 17 The lion seems to be in 3D, embossed.

Speaker 7 See, that's a 3D logo I like.

Speaker 25 That's, oh, goodness.

Speaker 41 I like blue. I like lions.
I always like a kind of two-tone color situation. I love when countries do that.
So I'm teeing Finland on this one.

Speaker 17 Yeah, that looks great. And the United States?

Speaker 6 Not official yet, but they took some pictures in these when they announced the initial guys that had made the Olympic team.

Speaker 3 So like Brady Coachella, Charlie McAvoy,

Speaker 27 Austin Matthews.

Speaker 4 If these are them, we're going to be the best-looking team in Milan by far.

Speaker 14 These are classic, man. So good.

Speaker 27 These are really cool.

Speaker 9 So, so good.

Speaker 7 Kind of a 1980 throwback a little bit, but with that i like this font because it's like i love the font it's not like that old you know like weird circular cursive lettering thing this is very modern it's basically the rangers

Speaker 18 okay

Speaker 41 i mean and the rangers are america iconic

Speaker 41 and the rangers look great yeah they look great yeah i mean they're not putting a statue of liberty's face in the middle of the jersey so they got that going for them yeah the rangers love to act like they invented doing what's that called when it's like the crossbody thing they did an inventive it's it's a known thing oh the seatbelt letters we're taking it back yeah yeah the diagonal um we saw brand marchant get his 999th and 1000 points in the panthers win against the capitals last night

Speaker 41 talk about the difference that's why you lost your voice you're so happy for marchand hooray uh can you talk about the difference between brand marchant the player earlier in his career and brand marchant the player now and can you talk about the kind of man that he is today yeah the beautiful thing about him is that his entire career he has played as if he could be sent down to the AHL again tomorrow because he started in 2011 on the fourth line of that Bruins Cup team and he had to prove himself because smaller than everyone.

Speaker 41 But his the Players Tribune article that he did is such a good emblem of who he is as a person and a player. I love, I mean, the influence of a guy like Chara.

Speaker 41 I'm thinking about him a lot because he was inducted to the Hall of Fame recently, Bergeron.

Speaker 41 You can tell the palpable impact playing with guys like that had on his career. I think what has changed about him is, I mean, he's become a family man.

Speaker 41 He has had, he's in a really reflective state, especially after making the kind of, well, I mean, of course, Sweeney kind of made the decision for him, but to go to the Panthers. He's reflected a lot.

Speaker 41 He's been... honest his entire career and now his honesty has taken him into more of a leadership role around the league.
I love it.

Speaker 41 I love that that thousandth point happened as it did kind of giving someone else the empty net goal. That is so classic.

Speaker 41 Teammate Marshan. I love it.
And I've loved seeing the different aspects of his personality and leadership happen

Speaker 41 kind of in a full circle moment back in Florida where now he's kind of in, he went from being a fourth liner to climbing his way up to being a captain of original six. I'm sorry, guys.

Speaker 41 And now he's kind of in the full circle of being a supporting but crucial role to a cup team.

Speaker 2 Sarah, I asked you this in the chat last night, but I'm going to ask you it here.

Speaker 33 Are you ready for Hall of Famer Brad Marshall

Speaker 25 going in as a Florida Panther?

Speaker 30 Are you ready for that to happen?

Speaker 41 I did swear at you, yes.

Speaker 41 That's how I feel about that.

Speaker 41 He's a Bruin at heart. He's going to retire a Bruin.
There's no doubt in my mind.

Speaker 41 I love this. arc with the Panthers.
I am so happy that it happened. I think it's great for the sport, great for the guy,

Speaker 41 great for everybody involved, and especially like for the Bruins fans who wanted to have a like they kind of wanted to crap on Don Sweeney a little bit and get this rebuild going so I think everyone especially Marshand Wins I love that he had the opportunity to go somewhere and win and it worked out it doesn't often work out like this right like I'm so happy it worked out the way it did works out like that in Florida

Speaker 8 That's me.

Speaker 13 Yeah.

Speaker 16 Chat.

Speaker 7 The chat. Enough about that.

Speaker 22 You're just mad because you're not in the chat. No, Ella.
That's all it is.

Speaker 8 He threw it in our our mad because you're not in the chat.

Speaker 16 That's all.

Speaker 5 Get an iPhone.

Speaker 22 No.

Speaker 26 We'll box somebody out for you, Roy, if you get an iPhone.

Speaker 41 I really do feel like one of the guys in that chat. That's my favorite group chat I'm in.

Speaker 2 I'm going to let everybody know you said that, Sarah.

Speaker 24 That's a huge compliment to all of us.

Speaker 22 It's not because of you, Ethan.

Speaker 2 Definitely not. I'm the most annoying person in the world.

Speaker 14 Oh, my God.

Speaker 41 All right. We need that.
We need the energy guy in the chat.

Speaker 17 Yeah, we need a different energy guy over here.

Speaker 7 All right, I hate to shift gears a little bit from all this fun and positivity, but I do want to get your take, Sarah, on something. I don't know where we're going to go.
It's really, but

Speaker 7 I want to bring up the Pacific Division leading Anaheim Ducks. They've been super fun to watch this year.
I mean, Carlson, Gauchier, Dostal,

Speaker 7 a lot of happiness, but

Speaker 7 I don't know how to feel about Joel Quinnville just yet. Like, I feel like he's really hit the ground running there.
It's a very similar situation to the one he left in Florida.

Speaker 7 This young, energetic team, end-to-end, a lot of goals, a lot of exciting hockey. So he's doing a great job.
I just, I don't know how to feel about it yet. I don't know if I'm, maybe it's a me thing.

Speaker 7 I don't know if I'm past what happened with everything in Chicago and Kyle Beach and all that.

Speaker 7 But yeah, I'm just not sure where to land yet. And I just kind of wanted to get your thoughts and see where you're at.

Speaker 41 I think that's actually a really good way to look at it: that everything isn't so black and white sometimes. Like, as it,

Speaker 41 when we think about his role in this situation, I think he is more genuinely remorseful than

Speaker 41 many people that have been in a situation like this prior.

Speaker 41 But even then, I look at it and say, if you were truly looking out for the victims and you have already done so much winning in your career, you're very old. Why don't you just call it a career?

Speaker 41 You have enough money. Why don't you kind of look if you really are as genuinely remorseful and wish you did more? The more you could do is maybe kind of go away.

Speaker 41 At the same time, I wish there was a little more specifics about if he's gonna be in this doing programs. They always say programs when it comes to the NHL.

Speaker 41 Like when I was covering the Carolina hurricanes, they brought Tony back. They always told me he's doing programs.
I'm asking, hey, what are these programs?

Speaker 41 So I wish people would ask more questions about what the alleged programs are and what he's doing in the community for victims of sexual abuse. You know what I mean?

Speaker 41 I think talking about it and making it more forefront could be a way to feel better and feel like he is kind of giving back after he does seem genuinely remorseful that's not enough if he's going to be a leader in this community but i mean from a hockey standpoint of course he's a great coach and it's showing connor bedard leo caulson and macklin celebrini are in the top 10 in scoring are the young guys taking over

Speaker 41 Yes, and it shows that we need to be more patient because we were spoiled when it came to Connor McDavid, Austin Matthews and co. one by one coming up, getting drafted, immediately being icons.

Speaker 41 You know what I mean? And then Jack Hughes took a few years and now he's a beast. Like, it's just, we really in this society, in this day and age, need to be more patient.
You look at Connor Bedard.

Speaker 41 I felt so bad for him last year. Just kind of, he was on an AHL roster, expected to be the first liner.
And like, give him a few, let him cook, right? Let these kids cook.

Speaker 41 Celebrini, I love watching him play. And I'm just, yeah, I'm really excited.

Speaker 41 We're in such a good era of the kind of guys in their prime right now, like your McKinnons, what have you, are crushing it, and then the new guys coming up are crushing it.

Speaker 41 If only we could watch it on something that wasn't ESPN Plus.

Speaker 7 How long before Macklin Celebrini wins his first Selkie trophy? That guy is an amazing 200-foot player.

Speaker 41 Let's give it three years.

Speaker 13 Wow.

Speaker 16 Wow.

Speaker 5 I like that.

Speaker 26 Sarah, I want to ask you about the Oilers.

Speaker 29 They're one of the hot storylines this year.

Speaker 30 Weird start, as always.

Speaker 14 They've won their last two games, but kind of in like fluky ways, right?

Speaker 9 They had an, you know, the Flyers had an overtime goal.

Speaker 26 Winner called out for offside.

Speaker 30 That Columbus game was really weird.

Speaker 2 And I want to ask you, play a soundbite here of Chris Knobloch recently. And I want to get your thoughts on this soundbite and then just the Oilers start in general.

Speaker 42 The first two goals of the game are two wrist shots, no traffic. Both get through your goalie.
One off the post, a good shot, one through your goalie. And you said your team sags after that.

Speaker 42 Is this team team losing some belief here when it comes to the goaltending situation?

Speaker 32 I don't believe so.

Speaker 26 I don't believe so. Not the most confident response if I'm Stuart Skinner, huh?

Speaker 41 He, oh,

Speaker 41 Notmark is awesome because he's so like understated, but that is a tough, that's a tough one.

Speaker 41 And it's just kind of like, I think they put Skinner in a bad position by not going out and seeking a better tandem, right?

Speaker 41 You look at some of these tandems that have had success over the years and you can't always do it alone. You got to kind of goalie by committee like a Swayman Olmark situation, right?

Speaker 41 That worked out really well. Not everybody, Sergey Bobrovsky.
And I think...

Speaker 41 when it's the situation is appearing again and again when it's like you're losing by inches and you keep getting to this place why don't you just improve it slightly it's like that it really is that easy and they're not doing it so it's like i feel bad kind of crapping on Skinner sometimes because it's not his fault.

Speaker 41 I'm sure if maybe he was the GM, he would seek someone to help him in this situation for the good of the team. And it's just kind of getting to a point.

Speaker 17 On Wednesday, we did our top five surprises in the first month of the NHR regular season.

Speaker 7 Check it out on YouTube.

Speaker 16 Sarah, what is

Speaker 20 love, Rose?

Speaker 7 That was for Rose.

Speaker 18 What, Sarah?

Speaker 17 What is your top five?

Speaker 41 Oh, God. So, you guys made me name five things yesterday.
I was at the bar watching Marshan score his goal. Thank you.
We were in Boston cheering for that.

Speaker 41 I had to delete all my messages, so I cannot reference this. You have the messages, David.
We can pull up. I don't even remember what I said.

Speaker 31 Hopefully, it was good.

Speaker 13 Roy has them. Yeah, I have them.
Okay, perfect.

Speaker 41 Let's see what we did.

Speaker 17 All right. So, number five was they let Matt and Brady do a podcast.

Speaker 13 That would be

Speaker 17 the Kachuck Boys.

Speaker 41 I am curious about you guys' thoughts on this because you know Kachuck very, very closely and I think that's a great thing for the league.

Speaker 41 It's like a Jason and Travis Kelsey thing and they've been on their podcast a lot. I'm excited for it.
What do you guys think?

Speaker 7 So I listened to the on my way to work or on my way to the show today. Thank you Miami Traffic.

Speaker 7 I want to hear how it evolves because like obviously Matthew and Brady like

Speaker 7 gems like they're gonna say a lot of funny entertaining stuff the stories they have obviously talking about four nations and their injuries and everything I just want to hear how the podcast progresses because the Kelsey Brothers podcast is like a well-oiled machine at this point.

Speaker 7 Like, that is an awesome, professional, entertaining podcast. And this one felt like you know, it's a first episode, so I don't want to, you know, poo-poo on anything.
I was very entertained.

Speaker 7 I just think that, you know, there's some things that can be cleaned up just in terms of the production.

Speaker 17 There's also a scheduling issue because you can't do it on game days, and then there's them going on the road.

Speaker 7 Well, they're gonna, they said it's gonna be every Wednesday for the rest of the season during the hockey season. When it's released, yes, every every Wednesday there's gonna be a new episode.

Speaker 7 The The Kelseys

Speaker 23 go ahead, Rosie. Sorry, go ahead, Rosie.

Speaker 41 Maybe they need a producer.

Speaker 34 Hey, excuse me.

Speaker 41 We got one.

Speaker 21 What the hell?

Speaker 33 I think it's going to be...

Speaker 5 The Kelseys are obviously the model, but I think they're going to be a little better because...

Speaker 2 Travis just kind of sits there and does like Migo style ad-libs for Jason Kelsey being actually really funny and interesting.

Speaker 4 And I think that Matt and Brady are both really interesting and both really funny.

Speaker 9 And I think if they get the right guests, they're going to do a really funny podcast. But just going to take some work.

Speaker 17 It's going to take some time all right number four linus oh mark is terrible

Speaker 41 yeah yeah mind you guys

Speaker 41 I had several beers last night right

Speaker 41 I like I like this um yes he is oh my god he's dead last and has been dead last in goal saved above expected this entire season and I just I hate it because he is the nicest guy in the world and he deserves better but you look at the data from before he was with Swayman after he was with Swayman and it's tough.

Speaker 41 It's tough. And his playoff experiences have not been stellar.
I hope that he gets it together, but you look at kind of where the senators are going.

Speaker 41 I mean, Kachuk again is out, and they kind of seem to fall apart without Kachuk. They don't have these depth pieces whatsoever.
They signed Pinto. That's great.

Speaker 41 They kind of need to sign a few more people, including another goaltending goaltender.

Speaker 17 Number three, the way teams are pathetically skating through the third period for the loser point.

Speaker 41 My story will come out about this either tomorrow or the next day, but I am really hating this. This has been a palpable trend to start the first month of the season.

Speaker 41 It's like the loser points are everywhere, and people are not even trying to risk it. And we need to change this.

Speaker 41 Something needs to happen because it's not even worth it to watch these third periods anymore.

Speaker 7 Would you think the game would improve if we did this combination? We eliminated the loser point and we extended three on three to 10 minutes.

Speaker 7 No loser point, no more shootouts. Win-win? Yes.

Speaker 41 I asked Matthew Chuck about this once, actually, and he said, Yeah, just make overtime forever. I'm on board with not forever, but 10 minutes.
I feel like 10 minutes

Speaker 7 wipes out at least like 75% of shootouts.

Speaker 41 Yes, just 10 minutes. Why? Just do it.
Yep.

Speaker 17 Number two, the Sabres sucking is somehow still a shock to the system.

Speaker 41 Should I be surprised? No. Am I? Yes.
Why? Every offseason, they do not do enough. They trade away their goal scorers.
And then they're like, oh, color me shocked that some of my players are hurt.

Speaker 41 Look at the Panthers. Every team goes through brutal injuries.
You have to have depth. They have no depth.
And it's shocking that nobody's fired. Like, fire people that are not making these moves.

Speaker 17 Well, they're busy, you know, building a football stadium without a roof in Buffalo. That's probably the issue.

Speaker 7 They're going to get rid of the wind, though. Yeah.

Speaker 17 And number one, Kyle Dubis is penguins rising while the maple leaves fall.

Speaker 41 My favorite hobby these days is not even to read Leaf's articles, but to go straight to the comments. And it's just, it hits.
It really tickles my fancy.

Speaker 41 And recently, the talk of the town is they want Dubas back. They used to hate Kyle Dubas.
Now they're saying, hey, remember three three years ago when Dubis wanted to trade Marner?

Speaker 41 What would life be like if they traded him three years ago? And I love that this is what's on the minds of Leafs fans right now. But oh, I am concerned about Austin Matthews.

Speaker 41 Me too. I don't know what his injury is, but it seems to be really having an impact on his total game.

Speaker 41 I understand that the off-season free agent market wasn't good, but I'm really curious to see what moves they'll make because they have not made the best moves with their long-term contracts under this regime.

Speaker 41 So we'll see.

Speaker 17 And finally, word around the league circles is that expansion is on the horizon. And with team values being as high as they are now, could we expect two expansion franchises coming up here?

Speaker 41 Yeah, I think they're going to maximize whatever they can when it comes to money. I don't know if that's the right option, but I think Gary will do it.

Speaker 41 I absolutely like think, look at at the money, look at who's interested in buying this stuff. Yeah, money.

Speaker 7 We're gonna get like another Los Angeles team, they're gonna get like another Toronto team. Like,

Speaker 7 I don't think it's gonna go to like in Atlanta again or maybe Houston forever. They've been talking about it, but

Speaker 7 no, I see. I don't know, I don't think that they see that as enough of a financial windfall.
Like, they want to take it somewhere where they just know it's like maybe a third New York team.

Speaker 16 Wow, okay,

Speaker 41 yeah, we need the Staten Islander Riva, baby.

Speaker 16 Staten Island Fairies. You can.

Speaker 16 That's not a bad name. That was not a bad name.

Speaker 34 You could do a cool logo with the Staten Island Fairies.

Speaker 7 Considering I just mentioned base title. I don't.
Yeah.

Speaker 19 Jesus Christ.

Speaker 22 All right. The hot dog scene.

Speaker 16 I didn't like that scene. But anyway.

Speaker 7 It's free range chicken night at the old base title game.

Speaker 17 You can listen to her, Allison Lucan, and Shayna Goldman on Too Many Men, and you can read her on the Bleacher Reports. She is Sarah Sivian.
Thank you for joining us, Sever. Sarah.

Speaker 41 Of course. Thanks so much for having me.

Speaker 39 This show is sponsored by Liquid IV.

Speaker 39 You know that switch from the lazy days of summer to the chaos of fall? I'm struggling. I have zero energy.
I can't keep up.

Speaker 39 Running between shows, the main show, Miss She Cray, going to this meeting, that meeting, trying to organize dance costumes, like, I have no energy.

Speaker 39 That's when I reached for Liquid IV's new sugar-free energy multiplier, hydrating energy that actually keeps up with me.

Speaker 39 It's got electrolytes, vitamins, and natural caffeine, so I get steady energy, not the jittery, crashy kind.

Speaker 39 Zero sugar, three times the electrolytes of the leading sports drink, plus five essential vitamins. I gotta always keep a few packets with me wherever I go.
It's so easy. You tear, pour, mix, and go.

Speaker 43 When I think about the holidays, I think about the little moments with my dog, Roma. The ones that make the season feel special.

Speaker 18 Put little elf ears on her.

Speaker 21 You know the deal.

Speaker 3 Take some selfies, posted for people that probably seen it too much.

Speaker 43 I love my dog. That's what I'm trying to get at.
That's why I'm joining Chewy Claws, who's out here making pets' wishes come true.

Speaker 43 From November 4th through December 24th, you can share your pet's wish at chewy.com slash chewyclaws.

Speaker 21 It might come true.

Speaker 43 And it helps others too. Every wish triggers a donation of five meals to shelters and rescues across the country.
And if you share your pet's wish through the Chewy app, they'll double that donation.

Speaker 34 That's 10 meals for pets in need just for participating.

Speaker 3 I've been using Chewy for years, legitimately. They've made my life easier for me and my dog Roma.

Speaker 43 Food, toys, meds, all of it shows up fast, no stress. And being part of something like Chewy Claws, where a small thing like a wish can make a real impact, that's the kind of stuff I care about.

Speaker 43 Every pet deserves a wish come true. Send your pet's wish to chewy.com slash chewyclaws.

Speaker 23 It might become a reality.

Speaker 43 Plus, your wish means Chewy will donate five meals to pets in need.

Speaker 17 It's time to enter the Panthers then.

Speaker 17 They finally got off the road.

Speaker 9 Thank God.

Speaker 17 It's done for the next 11

Speaker 17 out of 12 games.

Speaker 7 Just one little trip to North Carolina, and that's it for the next month.

Speaker 16 Nashville.

Speaker 17 Yeah, Nashville. Nashville.
Nashville. They are going to Nashville in the middle of the...

Speaker 26 Oh, wait, what I say, North Carolina?

Speaker 25 Yeah, Tennessee. Yeah, whatever.

Speaker 7 You're all in the same

Speaker 7 section of the

Speaker 16 middle.

Speaker 34 That road trip wasn't even that bad.

Speaker 9 They went two and two on the road trip.

Speaker 20 It's not

Speaker 22 the collective road

Speaker 17 record that is the problem.

Speaker 20 But

Speaker 7 once they got through the Anaheim game, I thought the next three were really good, and I think that's going to propel them onto this home stretch.

Speaker 7 I think Panther fans are in store for some good hockey.

Speaker 17 Yeah, the Panthers lost to the Sharks 3-1. They beat Vegas 3-2, and they beat down the Capitals 6-3.
A bad first start to the 25 minutes.

Speaker 17 In the first 25 minutes of the game doomed them in that San Jose's Sharks game, despite fully. dominating the latter 35.
They dominated that game.

Speaker 26 They got goalie.

Speaker 31 They got Astoria.

Speaker 7 Yaroslav Askarov was amazing, which, look, that's who he is. He's supposed to be the next great goalie in this league.
So, you know, good on him.

Speaker 21 And look, good on the Sharks.

Speaker 7 Their playoff team right now. Which is, are they still, I haven't checked overnight.

Speaker 17 I don't think Chicago is not.

Speaker 7 No, they are one point out. Chicago's got the second wild card store.

Speaker 17 No, no back up there.

Speaker 7 Chicago and the Tuskies out of Utah.

Speaker 17 They survived Vegas, and they beat down the Capitals for back-to-back wins as they play tomorrow at Tampa.

Speaker 16 Versus Tampa.

Speaker 2 Yeah, just on Askarov real quick.

Speaker 9 His save percentage is up to 9.03. He's got 6.7 goals saved above expected.

Speaker 5 And most of those probably came in that Panther game.

Speaker 28 I think they had, what, something like 40 shots in that game, nearly doubled up the Sharks.

Speaker 2 They were the much better team. Like, that was actually one of the more encouraging performances they've had this year because they dominated a team that you're supposed to dominate.

Speaker 3 They haven't necessarily done that always,

Speaker 3 but their best performances have been against some of the better teams that they've played.

Speaker 9 You know, they dominated Washington last night. They're 2-0.

Speaker 3 They swept Vegas this year, and both performances were pretty convincing.

Speaker 2 They beat a good Kings team 5-2.

Speaker 29 I've liked what I'm seeing a lot more from the Panthers recently.

Speaker 24 And now, after all of this, right, we've said, oh, it's such a bad start.

Speaker 6 And people are writing articles, what's wrong with the Panthers and stuff.

Speaker 5 Here they are.

Speaker 2 They're one point out of the playoff spot, three points out of the top of the Atlantic.

Speaker 10 Like, this team's going to be fine.

Speaker 9 All they had to do was stay afloat until Matthew Kachuk comes back.

Speaker 5 They are more than afloat.

Speaker 2 And Matthew Kachuk's return, Dave, seems to be around the corner.

Speaker 17 The thing that remained consistent was Brad Marchand and Sam Reinhart. Brad Marchand got

Speaker 17 his thousandth point in a win against Washington, and that was Ethan's win.

Speaker 17 He's got a five-game goal streak, I believe, five. Oh, it might be six actually now.

Speaker 6 Rhino scored like nine in his last eight games or something like that.

Speaker 9 Marshi's on fire. Rhino's a Cy Young candidate right now.

Speaker 2 He's got 10 goals and one assist. He's been absolutely fantastic.

Speaker 17 Marshand with a nine-game point streak. I think Reinhardt actually has

Speaker 17 eight goals in nine games. Eight.

Speaker 28 Yes. Is it eight and nine? It's eight and nine then.
Yeah, and he's got 10 on the year. Martian has 11.

Speaker 32 He's leading the team with 20 points.

Speaker 29 Next is Anton Lundell at 14.

Speaker 2 And how big has Lundell been, by the way, guys, in terms of the production?

Speaker 5 We all knew this year he had to be, we've all called him baby Barky.

Speaker 2 This year he kind of had to be Barky.

Speaker 29 And so far, 14 points, four goals, and 10 assists.

Speaker 9 He has been fantastic for this team.

Speaker 17 It's good that the Panthers are now getting back into the home swing. They are going to be here for a while, even though they are basically playing no Saturday games.

Speaker 7 Yeah, well, what is it? After

Speaker 26 the Olympics.

Speaker 7 Zero Saturday home games

Speaker 7 for the rest of the season. So that's a cool scheduling quirk.

Speaker 17 That's crazy. And Matthew Kachuck, as Ethan said, is close to coming back.
He's going to end up wearing a non-contact jersey in practice.

Speaker 7 Yeah.

Speaker 7 The talk is that he's going to be back on the ice sometime this month, which would be great, because then it's just a matter of getting his cardio up, getting his legs under him, getting back into game shape.

Speaker 7 Because once they get on the ice, for all these injured guys, and Paul Maurice said as much yesterday

Speaker 7 during the morning state, after the morning state,

Speaker 7 that once the guys get on the ice, that's when you can really start tracking their recovery. And until then, it's just a matter of progression.
It's a matter of going to PT, working on your strength.

Speaker 7 Might have a good day, might have a bad day. Once they get back on the ice, and you can really start tracking them in terms of hockey, that's when things get real.

Speaker 17 All right, they play tomorrow versus Tampa. What are we looking at here?

Speaker 7 More fighting after that crazy shitstorm of the two preseason games where they just had no interest in playing hockey, just fighting. I think at least one of the players, was it Radish?

Speaker 29 Sabarin is back up.

Speaker 7 Sabarin is back up with the team. He was the one that got suspended, right, for a few games.
Four games. So maybe,

Speaker 7 I don't know. Like, is it crazy for me to think that's a regular season game and they're going to actually take it seriously?

Speaker 22 I really hope so.

Speaker 7 Are they going to be out for revenge again? Like, Tampa's playing like poo-poo right now, right?

Speaker 6 Well, they're ready to win. They've been a lot better recently.

Speaker 2 They won like, I think they reeled off like seven straight at one point.

Speaker 9 They're kind of back into where they should be.

Speaker 29 But they're actually, they lost their last one.

Speaker 2 They're seven and three in their last send, and they have actually fallen behind the Panthers, although they do have a game in hand.

Speaker 30 That's right.

Speaker 29 They've got 18 points. The Panthers have 19.

Speaker 2 They're 8-6-2.

Speaker 3 They're playing a lot better than they did the first like 5-6-7 games of the season, but it hasn't been the exact start that you would expect from them.

Speaker 5 And Brayden Point's been really quiet.

Speaker 17 Thanks to Sarah Sivian for joining us this week. She was wonderful.
