Speaker 37
Like a lot of little sisters, I grew up in the shadow of my older sibling. But unlike most shadows, Margaret's was warm and welcoming.
Maybe it was because we came from different mothers.
Speaker 37
Or maybe, despite that, we somehow became birds of a feather. There was never any competition or envy between us.
We sensed our respective calling and heeded them together. As a team.
Speaker 37 The Ingersoll sisters. Never Margaret and Patricia.
Speaker 37 She was the big dreamer, and I fashioned the machines that made her dreams a reality.
Speaker 37 But what I never knew was that somewhere along the line, her dreams veered into nightmare.
Speaker 37 While I chased the ghosts and goblins with a passion that bordered on obsession, all she wanted was a good reason not to believe in them.
Speaker 37 I should have paid more attention.
Speaker 38
Christ, look at it out there. Fog's thicker than fucking clam chowder.
Without a compass or some kind of light, we could end up running in circles.
Speaker 7 If you got any better ideas, I'm all ears.
Speaker 39 I can sense the hellmouth, so at the very least, I can keep us moving away from it. Though I'll have no idea exactly where we're heading.
Speaker 38 I suppose that's gonna have to do.
Speaker 34 If you can sense the sparrows, can you tell if they're onto us?
Speaker 40 I think so.
Speaker 39 If we weren't as deep into the spirit world, it might be more difficult. But right now, I have a sort of bead on them, I believe.
Speaker 39 They stand out like piss holes in the snow, if you'll pardon my language. And not just them,
Speaker 39 the others.
Speaker 38 What others are you talking about?
Speaker 39 They feel like the sparrows, but different.
Speaker 39 Dozens of them, maybe more, scattered all around the area.
Speaker 15 Watching.
Speaker 39
Their very presence is like a corruption, a tumor in the ether. They seem to be observing, partaking in the effulgence of the hellmouth.
Like flies gathered across a festering corpse.
Speaker 7 Then we really need to get our asses going.
Speaker 38 Wait, here comes Pat.
Speaker 38 Where's Margaret?
Speaker 7 She.
Speaker 7 She didn't make it.
Speaker 7 Oh my god.
Speaker 7 Margaret! Pat.
Speaker 7 I.
Speaker 38 What the hell happened?
Speaker 42 There's no time.
Speaker 32 We have to go.
Speaker 7 But
Speaker 7 I can't, Mace.
Speaker 42 Let's just go.
Speaker 7 Okay.
Speaker 38 Once you're at the window, make sure you've got a good hold on the ladder before you head down.
Speaker 7 Hearken well, ye great and greedy damned.
Speaker 7 Ye who creep to secret places and whisper midst the shadows.
Speaker 7 Feel ye now the pole, the pit, that ancient womb of woe, whence we were first unmade and born again in pain.
Speaker 7 Let us once more quicken our blackened spirits within the dreadsome glow.
Speaker 7 For this night we raise up hell and drag down heaven by its silvered throat.
Speaker 7 Three more of the deep damned shall join our number to feast upon the spoils of a world yet trembling before us.
Speaker 7 But draw not too near, nor make too loud a revel,
Speaker 7 lest the silent one descend upon us, swift and watchful, as he ever doth when pride gives voice to the damned.
Speaker 7 But with time and greater number,
Speaker 7 his time doth approach as well.
Speaker 34 The storm is intensifying.
Speaker 34 A sure sign that the ritual to bring the solders up is nearing.
Speaker 4
More More concerned about the security detail they've got for it. Forgetting all the communications on the CB, which is a miracle in itself.
I'd say there's less than a dozen of them.
Speaker 8 Which ain't great, but it's better than I thought.
Speaker 4
From what I've seen of their security, cultists, they're mostly a bunch of schmucks. Three guys with training could run them off pretty quick.
As for the damned,
Speaker 4 well, let's hope those soaked rounds work as well against them as they did the thing back at the hotel.
Speaker 34 They may work even better.
Speaker 34 From what I've been reading, the Nephilim are known for their power and resilience. There's even a few essays theorizing that the biblical Leviathan and Behemoth were in fact giant Nephilim.
Speaker 42 That's not far from our own experience with them. After all, the one from the island was able to smash through the sound system pretty easily.
Speaker 7 The damned seem more inclined to corruption.
Speaker 34 Deception. You mean like making it look like heads are raining from the sky?
Speaker 4 That sort of thing?
Speaker 34
Precisely. We have to be prepared for such things when we confront them.
But the Nephilim are considered more robust than the damned themselves.
Speaker 34 Perhaps the damned will prove more susceptible to the stormwater.
Speaker 42 Have you read anything more about the stormwater?
Speaker 39 Other ways it can be used?
Speaker 34 Nothing yet.
Speaker 42 I was wondering
Speaker 42 what with so many parallels between Mephitica and other faiths, if certain, more recent practices might not prove effective against the damned.
Speaker 7 Such as
Speaker 42 Christianity holds that the crossing of the forehead with holy water can ward off evil, among other things.
Speaker 42 Given the properties we've already witnessed, wouldn't it be worth trying?
Speaker 42 I can't imagine it would take up much of our supply.
Speaker 4 I was never a church-going guy, but if there's even the slightest chance, I say we give it a go.
Speaker 34 You'll get no argument from me.
Speaker 4
After security reports their movements again, we move in. Storm's getting worse.
Roads could wash out, or a... Or a tree could drop right between us and the mansion.
Speaker 4 I still can't believe I'm betting everything on something in that damn sky. If our people aren't in there, or they're too far gone to help,
Speaker 4 we'll be the turkeys marching straight into the oven.
Speaker 34
Trust me, Martin. Faith has never been my strong suit either.
Yet, the evidence would seem to suggest we're on the proper course.
Speaker 34 Between the lightning obligingly clearing our path and the CB intercepting security's transmissions, I'd say we're treading that curious line where faith and reason intersect.
Speaker 42 I just hope the Ingersolls and agents are getting some help too.
Speaker 38 I don't hear the storm anymore.
Speaker 39 That's because we're nowhere near the storm.
Speaker 20 Not here.
Speaker 37 If the ritual is reaching its apex, then we're right back where we were before.
Speaker 37
Sheol, the place where those things live. And to descend any further, we'd need to enter the mansion itself.
It hangs directly over the hellmound.
Speaker 37 That's where the elevator comes in, I think.
Speaker 37 It's not just a passage, it's a physical conduit between the material world and the infernal it carries the right subjects downward where the damn steal the bodies of the people offered to them
Speaker 4 last thing i need is one of those hick nut jobs walking around in my skin
Speaker 39 the mist is potting
Speaker 38 yeah there's a building on top of that hill
Speaker 7 wait a fucking minute Oh god, please no!
Speaker 37 What? What's wrong?
Speaker 38 It's the solder compound.
Speaker 38 We're at the pinnacle.
Speaker 37 No, it's an illusion. Like, like Gil throwing left arms at us and the shit that happened to you in the historical society.
Speaker 37 It isn't real.
Speaker 7 Phil, what's your reading?
Speaker 41 It's like hell is overflowing the hell mouth, spilling out all around the city, into the woods, everywhere.
Speaker 38 That's what's causing this? Not the sparrows?
Speaker 42 I can't tell.
Speaker 7 Uh,
Speaker 7 the ether's roiling,
Speaker 7 changing.
Speaker 41 Clouds crowding out the moon.
Speaker 7 Hell.
Speaker 39 It seeks out sins, animates them, turns them against the sinner. It needs to show us our...
Speaker 7 our sins
Speaker 40 feed us our own guilt
Speaker 7 Come out of there, you fucker!
Speaker 38 Stay away from the tree line
Speaker 40 I just wanted you to see is all. The ones who left us here.
Speaker 7 The dark.
Speaker 40 Darkness after the flames went out.
Speaker 4 That shit doesn't work, any.
Speaker 40 I know you tell yourself that you had no choice.
Speaker 40
Guns don't fire themselves, do they? You had a choice. You chose to kill instead of letting those people near the dam die.
You chose to kill 12 women. You accepted medals for outstanding service.
Speaker 40 All of you accepted medals. For murdering women and children.
Speaker 38 We weren't the ones who covered you in gasoline. We weren't the ones who used you as human shields.
Speaker 40 Of course you weren't. You were the ones that lit the gasoline.
Speaker 43 Stood there while we screamed and burned and died.
Speaker 43 Tell me, did you ever visit us after that? Drop a flower at our cheap little headstones? Whisper an apology as a single tear streaked down your face?
Speaker 43 No, no!
Speaker 7 We didn't mean to.
Speaker 43 Poor Phyllis, just along for the ride, an old accompliced murder.
Speaker 43 But it was you who found us.
Speaker 43 You who brought them here to the compound.
Speaker 43 You aimed the gun.
Speaker 43 They fired it.
Speaker 7 Leave her alone. She didn't have anything to do with it.
Speaker 37
It's not real. It's just a reflection of your guilt.
You said so yourself, Phil.
Speaker 42 Am I just a figment of your guilt, too, Patricia?
Speaker 42 How could you not see?
Speaker 7 How could you let me do it?
Speaker 7 Margaret.
Speaker 8 No, it's not you.
Speaker 7 I know it's not you.
Speaker 42 Why can't it be me?
Speaker 42 You're the one who's thrilled by the paranormal, dragged me through one haunted house after the next?
Speaker 7 After all we've been through, why couldn't I still be here with you?
Speaker 42 With all of you?
Speaker 42 Please, Pat,
Speaker 7 don't leave me here.
Speaker 7 Stay with me.
Speaker 7 Margaret, I.
Speaker 7 Where are you going? You can't outrun your own guild
Speaker 36 head for the compound.
Speaker 36 Here.
Speaker 36 Was it real?
Speaker 41 Uh, it's hard to tell, but
Speaker 37 I think
Speaker 41 I think the power from the hellmouth makes it real.
Speaker 41 Please, Pa, don't leave me here alone.
Speaker 41 Open the door.
Speaker 41 I'm so scared.
Speaker 7 Please, please, please get me now.
Speaker 7 Come on, let's get you out of here.
Speaker 7 I can't open it!
Speaker 37 There's something jammed inside the fucking padlock!
Speaker 7 Smash it down.
Speaker 44 They'll kill us if we don't get them down there in time.
Speaker 7 Oh, shit.
Speaker 44
This is unit two. The captives have escaped.
I repeat, the captives have escaped.
Speaker 41 The darkness is all I can see.
Speaker 7 Like a thick curtain pulled across my mind.
Speaker 7 We could be headed anywhere.
Speaker 38 What time is it?
Speaker 37 I don't know. My watch stopped a while ago, but I'd guess it's pretty close to 3 a.m.
Speaker 7 This fucking place just keeps going and going.
Speaker 7 Now it's your turn to wander a labyrinth. Except yours lacks the promise of salvation.
Speaker 7 Just the echoes of what you done.
Speaker 7 Those red-hot sins of yours,
Speaker 7 burning breadcrumbs that'll lead you nowhere.
Speaker 7 Sept further along an endless spiral,
Speaker 7 corkscrewing all the way into oblivion.
Speaker 7 And the whole time you'll wander in a circle, me and my kin will be wearing your bodies, raising cane like it ain't never been raised.
Speaker 7 And no one will be the wiser.
Speaker 7 Not even your own children.
Speaker 7 Fuck you!
Speaker 7 You ain't out of hell yet, you goddamn fix!
Speaker 41 Mace, control yourself. We can't have them distracting us.
Speaker 7 It's what they want.
Speaker 39 I don't even think that's really him. Just a hellish simulacrum.
Speaker 7 You got it all wrong, old lady.
Speaker 7 I don't want to distract you.
Speaker 7 What I want is to walk in the sun again,
Speaker 7 to chase down the light and strangle it into shadows,
Speaker 7 to watch birch crack under pressure.
Speaker 7 But right now,
Speaker 7 all I want you to do is
Speaker 7 burn
Speaker 7 just
Speaker 7 like
Speaker 7 me.
Speaker 7 The whole place is on fire.
Speaker 7 It's gotta be another damn illusion.
Speaker 4 They wouldn't risk damage enough before the ritual.
Speaker 4 But I can feel it.
Speaker 4 I can't
Speaker 4 breathe.
Speaker 7 Then hallway there. Go.
Speaker 7 Watch out for rooms coming down.
Speaker 7 Run, run, as fast as you can.
Speaker 7 We can't catch you, but the fire can.
Speaker 7 Help me,
Speaker 7 I can't keep up.
Speaker 7 I got you, Phil.
Speaker 38 Up you go.
Speaker 37 There's a door over there.
Speaker 37 Fucking fake stuck.
Speaker 38 I think it's starting to get.
Speaker 38 Let's open it.
Speaker 38 No.
Speaker 38 We're back at the mansion.
Speaker 38
Oh, no. Fuck that.
It's gotta be another illusion.
Speaker 7 The time for deception has passed.
Speaker 7 For the hour is upon ye.
Speaker 7 At last.
Speaker 7 Black noon has come.
Speaker 7 No.
Speaker 45 Fuck that.
Speaker 38 We're not going without a fight.
Speaker 30 Your bullets be like flies to us.
Speaker 30 And your resistance?
Speaker 30 Mere whispers?
Speaker 30 Relinquish your pointless weapon.
Speaker 7 Now!
Speaker 7 Now!
Speaker 7 Oh! Oh, my hand.
Speaker 44 Now, there's no time for drugs and subtleties.
Speaker 7 Bind them quickly!
Speaker 7 Yes, my lady.
Speaker 7 Fuck that shit!
Speaker 7 You're gonna have to.
Speaker 7 There's no defiing or power, you simpleton.
Speaker 4 Now quiet yourselves.
Speaker 7 I shall have all of eternity for screaming.
Speaker 18 The time is at hand.
Speaker 7 The gates to hell be thrown open! Send them below!
Speaker 7 Be damned, ye three, and suffer for
Speaker 7 chime of Antioch.
Speaker 7 That burns.
Speaker 7 Flee!
Speaker 7 Gosh! Kill the interlopers! Kill them all!
Speaker 7 The resonance is in that truck! I can feel it! Who the fuck's driving that thing?
Speaker 38 I don't know, and I don't care. But I should be out of this rope in just a few.
Speaker 7 Open fire on the truck!
Speaker 7 Shut the camp
Speaker 7 on it.
Speaker 8 It's empty.
Speaker 6 There's just a stick wedged against the accelerator.
Speaker 7 Sniper
Speaker 7 Where is it coming from?
Speaker 7 Over there, by the.
Speaker 7 Look for muzzle flash!
Speaker 42 Anyone got eyes on the shooter?
Speaker 7 Nope, just you.
Speaker 38 I'll take that, thank you. Can't let that sniper have all the fun.
Speaker 7 The prisoners are loose! The prisoners are
Speaker 38 They heard you the first time.
Speaker 7 They're behind us.
Speaker 44 May some catch.
Speaker 44 Now
Speaker 7 let's cut these motherfuckers down.
Speaker 7 I think that's the last of them.
Speaker 38 Mace, this one's got extra mags. You guys okay over there?
Speaker 39 We're fine. We took cover the instant it began.
Speaker 7 But who the fuck was helping us out there?
Speaker 4 Is that any way to treat a friend?
Speaker 7 I don't know you for madam, pal.
Speaker 7 Take one more step, and you're a ghost.
Speaker 4
Okay, okay, you got it. But I'm hoping you at least know one of these guys.
Come on in, you two.
Speaker 41 Dr. Vlachtrum?
Speaker 7 Thank goodness we found you.
Speaker 30 We've been trying to locate you since the day you contacted me.
Speaker 39 Well, your timing is impeccable.
Speaker 39 Phil!
Speaker 6 What's happening to her?
Speaker 7 The sparrows.
Speaker 7 They're still here.
Speaker 7 Abigail,
Speaker 39 using her connection to my heart.
Speaker 38 Hang on, Phil.
Speaker 42 What can we do?
Speaker 37 Is the resonator in the back of the truck?
Speaker 4 Yeah, it's the only reason we made it here.
Speaker 44 Move her into the truck, quick. Come on.
Speaker 44 Go, Phil.
Speaker 7 Hurry.
Speaker 7 Please.
Speaker 7 It's working.
Speaker 39 I can feel her hold lessening.
Speaker 38 Those fucking bastards.
Speaker 37 Phyllis, is the hell mouth still open?
Speaker 42 Yes, but it's closing.
Speaker 7 Why?
Speaker 37 I need that circuit board from their machine, the Horn of the Dam. I need the runes that are printed on it.
Speaker 38 I remember it.
Speaker 39 No, they're still here.
Speaker 41 The Sparrows.
Speaker 39 Watching, waiting for an opening.
Speaker 39 And the studies outside the range of the resonator.
Speaker 32 You must stay here.
Speaker 39 You are defenseless against them without the machine.
Speaker 4 That may not be entirely true.
Speaker 4 Here, these are for you guys.
Speaker 7 Backups?
Speaker 34 The rounds have been soaked in a material that can harm, likely kill, the damned.
Speaker 36 Are you serious?
Speaker 7 Trust us.
Speaker 42 They work.
Speaker 37 Listen, I need those runes, and I need them soon, like yesterday. This could be our one and only chance to get out of this.
Speaker 7 Well,
Speaker 7 what the fuck are we waiting for?
Speaker 42 If you're going out there, let me put some of this on you.
Speaker 8 Holy water?
Speaker 7 Something like that. It hurts them.
Speaker 42 Might even protect you from their powers.
Speaker 38 You better fucking believe it.
Speaker 7 Leon.
Speaker 7 Mason.
Speaker 4 Don't worry, Phil.
Speaker 7 We'll be okay.
Speaker 8 Don't worry.
Speaker 39 That's not what I was going to say.
Speaker 36 What is it?
Speaker 39 Send those bastards back to hell.
Speaker 7 Do you hear me?
Speaker 7 Loud and clear.
Speaker 37 If you two don't mind, I'll need some extra hands while I work.
Speaker 34 We are at your disposal.
Speaker 38 Nice move with the truck, by the way.
Speaker 7 Thanks.
Speaker 4 I was just hoping I didn't hit you guys with it. How'd you know where the ship was going down?
Speaker 4 Only room with the lights on.
Speaker 7 Fair enough.
Speaker 38 We got moving, fellas.
Speaker 7 One o'clock.
Speaker 7 And what do we have here?
Speaker 7 Welcome to our
Speaker 30 set the spiders to the flies.
Speaker 30 Again, with thy pointless weapons. See that now it is too late to learn from folly.
Speaker 7 If ye will not go below, then ye will be torn asunder
Speaker 7 and then ye be devoured.
Speaker 7 Devour this
Speaker 7 Come on, well, they're still trying to figure out what hit them.
Speaker 38 There's the machine hurry up.
Speaker 7 We got movement all over the place
Speaker 7 Thou hast sorely wounded our brother Thy pain shall last till your skin greys and falls away
Speaker 7 It's just a taste of what he's got coming. What all you fucks got coming?
Speaker 38 I got it.
Speaker 7 Let's go.
Speaker 7 Methinks not.
Speaker 38 Mace.
Speaker 38 Here, take this back to Pat. I gotta get Mace.
Speaker 8 Don't be long.
Speaker 37 I'll hang thee by thine eye socket.
Speaker 38 How about I just blow your ugly head off?
Speaker 42 What are the chances of this working, do you think?
Speaker 37 Better than our chances of getting out of here if it doesn't.
Speaker 34 Duly noted.
Speaker 38 I got the circuit board.
Speaker 47 Where's the owner mace?
Speaker 4 They covered me, so so I could get out.
Speaker 37 Okay, it'll take just a minute for me to get this where I want it.
Speaker 37 Then we'll need to get her out of the truck and into the elevator.
Speaker 39 Into the elevator?
Speaker 39 Where'd they go?
Speaker 7 Where'd they go?
Speaker 7 I don't know. Could be anywhere.
Speaker 45 Wanna make a break for it
Speaker 7 on three?
Speaker 7 Yeah.
Speaker 7 I know not why my powers were not formed,
Speaker 7 but my thing shall be denied.
Speaker 7 Look out!
Speaker 7 Through the door!
Speaker 7 Just a little further!
Speaker 37 Just don't let the elevator doors close on us.
Speaker 7 I've got them.
Speaker 7 Hurry! I hear my gunfire!
Speaker 7 Okay, it's in.
Speaker 7 Okay,
Speaker 30 only one thing left to do.
Speaker 37 Going down.
Speaker 37 Fuck, I'm almost dry.
Speaker 37 I can't get a clear shot.
Speaker 7 It's like they're part of the fucking darkness.
Speaker 7 Indeed.
Speaker 7 We are part of the darkness.
Speaker 7 It runs through us like mud.
Speaker 7 Blood ye have spilled this very night.
Speaker 7 Blood that shall be avenge.
Speaker 44 Thy weapons are deadly for truth, but we are deadlier still.
Speaker 30 And I can hear your hearts where they leap like rabbits in thy breasts.
Speaker 7 Soon I shall feel them beat their last
Speaker 7 in my jaws.
Speaker 7 Oh, yeah?
Speaker 45 is that why Ayenabor is so quiet? Because he's so fucking deadly?
Speaker 7 To me, he's bleeding out in a corner somewhere.
Speaker 45 Why don't you show yourselves?
Speaker 7 So we can all settle up. Huh?
Speaker 37 I think they've got better things to do.
Speaker 37 Like die.
Speaker 38 What the fuck are you doing? Get the fuck out of here.
Speaker 38 No, child.
Speaker 38 By all means.
Speaker 38 Stay.
Speaker 32 Oh, I intend to.
Speaker 37
Because at this very moment, the Resonator, with some recent additions, is about to settle into the bowels of hell. Although, she's not really a resonator anymore.
She's a bomb.
Speaker 37 By using those energy-directing runes I discovered on the Horn of the Damned and disabling the Parasonic Governor, I managed to hyper-focus the Chime of Antioch directly on the base of the Hellmouth.
Speaker 37 Then I rigged the entire array to trigger simultaneously, unleashing a single hyper-amplified burst of Parasonics. The rapid decoupling action of the Hellmouth with traditional reality will...
Speaker 37 Let's just put it this way.
Speaker 37 The resulting chime-infused blast will strip your stolen skin from your fucking bones. And the best part? I could never have done it.
Speaker 37 If it hadn't been Black Noon.
Speaker 7 Impossible!
Speaker 7 Thou seek to deceive us!
Speaker 7 What the machine?
Speaker 7 We were promised new bodies for Reception, betrayers.
Speaker 37 And by the way, this is for Margaret.
Speaker 37 My god,
Speaker 37 it worked!
Speaker 37 Uh-huh.
Speaker 38 Why the hell didn't we get blown to smithereens, too?
Speaker 37 The explosion was more a paraphysical force than a physical one. It leveled the mansion because the entire place had become saturated with the energies of the hellmill.
Speaker 39 It's not over.
Speaker 39 Some of the sparrows survived, but the damned who gathered to partake in the ritual have departed.
Speaker 4 What else can we do?
Speaker 45 We can't track them, can we?
Speaker 38
We don't need to. I know where they went.
The Black Cottage.
Speaker 37 What are you two talking about?
Speaker 38 Something we discovered from the stuff I got from the Historical Society. Everything happened so fast after that we never got the chance to share.
Speaker 38 It's where Edgar was burned alive in the pitch pot woods. Where he's at right now.
Speaker 7 Should we really push our luck?
Speaker 42 We barely survived.
Speaker 37 They'll never be this week again, and the sun will be up soon.
Speaker 39 Abigail survived. She has power over me because of what she did to me, what she gave me.
Speaker 41 I'll never be my own person again.
Speaker 40 Not so long as she lives.
Speaker 8 There's more soaked rounds in the car, and more of the stuff to make them.
Speaker 7 I say we finish what we started.
Speaker 7 I'm in.
Speaker 34 I wonder if we even have a choice.
Speaker 7 Look out! There's something over there.
Speaker 7 I
Speaker 7 go to the cottage,
Speaker 7 seek his life,
Speaker 7 and let me die, knowing
Speaker 7 that your pain shall be unto a black sun
Speaker 7 shining with agony
Speaker 7 and screams.
Speaker 7 Well,
Speaker 7 if it ain't laughing, boy,
Speaker 7 I
Speaker 7 and I shall last last
Speaker 7 like to laugh, do you?
Speaker 7 I bet you're the sort of fellow who could appreciate a good joke.
Speaker 7 Stop me if you have heard this one.

Speaker 12 You ever stand in front of your closet and just say, I have nothing to wear while you're literally surrounded by clothes?

Speaker 2 So I started listing pieces I'm over on Depop, and honestly, it's been amazing.
