🇨🇳 AI trends n Mini-Games: MVP in 2 weeks. 80% of Chinese mini-game developers already use AI
We sit down with Chen Yang (Iwae) from Cocos again to unpack how AI is transforming the Chinese mini-game ecosystem across development, UA, and operations.
The conversation reveals how AI-generated 3D, playable automation, LoRA fine-tuning, and instant meme cloning are redefining speed, scale, and creativity in the world’s most dynamic mobile market.
💡 Key Takeaways
1. 80 % of Chinese mini-game developers already use AI.
AI is embedded across art, code, operations, and UA pipelines.
The most common use cases are:
2. AI improves development speed by up to 80 %.
A single small team (1 artist + 1 programmer + 3 AI agents) can now build an MVP in 2 weeks.
Before 2023, the same project required 5–6 people and 1–2 months.
3. Custom LoRA models are the new secret weapon.
4. AI video ads and playable creation are exploding.
Average cost per playable: $1000–$2000.
you can also get playables with playablemaker.com
25–30 % of UA revenue in September 2025 came from AI-generated playables.
5. AI video workflow = human + AI hybrid.
Studios shoot a few clips with real actors ($500/day), then auto-generate hundreds of new scenes using Runway, VEO3, or Kling 2.5.
The average cost is less than $40 000 per game.
6. “Chinese Speed” defined.
A meme seen on Douyin today becomes a mini-game level the next day.
7. AI agents now analyze markets.

in 2023.

So, buckle up.
This is gonna be very interesting.
I can't wait.
Okay, I want to talk about the AI trends in minigame.
I say it's quite common.
According to our survey, probably more than 80%
of the developers are using AI already, especially for the AI game.
For this year, I think for this year or for the future, I'll talk about first I'll talk about the development.

Thank you very much guys for sponsoring this episode.
Now let's get back to the content.
Bye-bye.
The first thing we see the 3D.
There are 3D,
there's a lot of top 3D like AI generate service like Roading, Meshi, and Triple.
Currently, recently they just
update their model.
We see the faces of the mesh is getting smaller and the details are getting better.
So I like to say the 3D
for the casual or the hyper casual will be getting better and better.
Probably more minigame will be using the AI generated 3D at the end of this year or probably for the quarter one or quarter two last year.
Another one, we already see a lot of people using the AI video for the casual game.
or for something for the short story like a drama game but for the ai generated animation especially for the span of live 2d still not being sold yet and there's no clues yet
probably more people will use the 3D
for
mini game first another thing is for the operation we already see the iBlowing is really successful with the AI in the traffic buy they have their new AI traffic system another one
A lot of company in China, they already use the AI for their BI
system.
The Sensor Tower also providing the more AI tool for the BI as well.
I'll say in the future, people they need more something like the balancing with AI, like the AI driving dynamic balancing for your levels for the gameplay.
Like each of the users might get different like level gameplay depending on their user experience or the gameplay experience.
So this is the AI for the future.
I I see the AI driving financing thing in the future.
A game like the Block Puzzle, I heard they are trying the AI financing.
So there's something policy.
So for the Steam, they already banned the AI generate without copyright, which means you can use the AI, but you need your own copyright, which means you can use other, like the material race without copyrights as a LoRa for your own arts.
And another thing is we try to really strictly regulate the AI video games.
Some games are declined for not using the real human.
I'll introduce later.
The TikTok minigame are also banning some low quality AI content product, which means you can use the AI, but you need to use the AI to generate or produce some really high quality games.
So this is a game they're using the stable diffusion and Joni to rapidly generate the 2D aside.
All the characters characters are made with AI.
Then they using the spa animation to manually animate all the rigging.
So another thing is following the video trains.
The Gemini, the claw, they can generate the game directly.
So this game you can see, so this is a matching all the this is matching all the all the game content are generated with the Gemini or the video thing.
So with the AI tool, the developer could probably generate three to five complete stories within one day by one or
two
person
people.
But
I still remember in the early stage of the 2023 for me such
level of the story people of the studio probably take more than three days.
But for this year, probably three to five stories within one day.
And they don't really, yeah.
And all the 2D arts can be generated by the C SD or the mid-journaling.
So, for the IA users, side quality requirements still need to be moderate, but timeless is really critical.
For example, sometimes we find a really good memes from TikTok, which is done in China.
And you can see the next day there are games with this can of memes in their level already.
So, this is what we call the Chinese speed.
So, at the AI2 high significant
can bursting the launching speed for the memes.
And another thing I want to, this game is quite interesting.
So this this game is launched in 2023.
It's the
meet of the 2023.
I think the balls, so I'm quite familiar with
this studio.
So the balls, I think fair most of the artists they replace them with 30, 90 graphic cards.
So they're using using the AIGC.
So they're using the AIGC to generate probably like 50 buildings in a 50,000 square meter mile, like within one mile, like within one mile, within one week.
And they also have their
customer LoRa model for the Chinese characters and the Chinese style.
like buildings.
So the result is quite good.
So the MOP racing will be released in just two weeks so the developer efficiency is improved by 80 percentage and this game is still in the top 20 in the ip ranking currently
so i can see that yeah so i really play a important role in the high quality asset generation so like before i think before 2023 gpt 3.5 and i see
was released probably they have the four to six people team for the MYP.
It already will be two artists and one
two to three programmer.
I think by
currently still
five people, probably one
for the whole game.
Yeah, one artist, one programmer, one mid journey,
one GPT, and one agent for the game plan.
Yeah, so which means the three people are replaced by three agents.
By the way, for people that don't understand, customized LoRa models means so it's quite a technical thing.
For example, if you're downloading the LoRa from the Civitaik, they only have the European or something like the
Comite Astel, it's not suitable for the Chinese mini-game market.
So they train their own LoRa model from their pressure games.
So they're training their own aside to avoid the copyrights and also make the game aside suitable for the mini game market.
Yeah, yeah, just training the LoRa model by by themselves.
Yeah, just wanted to explain
LoRa means low-rank adaptation model and it's basically you have a AI generation model and what you do, you create a custom data set that you train on extra and you use this extra training to add, that's basically your LoRa and you put this into your model so it generates stuff based on that data set.
So eventually every company will have their own like art, like I don't know, Blizzard art only for Blizzard, CD project red for CD project and so on so forth yep yeah and it's actually quite cool because some boss told me why they
need to hire more programmer of the artist in future the average salary or the monthly pay for them they can buy the totally new 50 90 graphic case every month
it's very cool but it's true it's happened in china because for the game studio they i think most of game studio they have their own law LoRa
so they can use the cloud service yeah basically use their
local based LoRa yeah you can fare a programmer and buy a new 5090 graphic car every every month so it's a AI shell drama game and all generated I would guess so actually I think uh they take they take the they take some like really real photo from actress
like by like offline and using the photo to generate the video.
Why they do this?
To help you game guide approval in WeChat and Samplify for also actually we take we take the video from the real person, but we air generate like some clips.
So we think the multiple product really achieves successful.
Most of the games are IAP sorry, the IA, which means they don't need the ISBN.
They can use the AI and the real person for really cheap
uh co I think the average cost for this kind of the game is
less than 40,000 US dollars for one game.
That's crazy.
Probably like
500 US dollars for the actor every day.
You only need one to two days to take like a few clips and generate new clips from the old clips by using the wheel, the AI, or other,
or using the runway.
or other like AI video models.
So the AI video workflow are expected to
reach a very good level, I think, in the next three to five months.
The only problem is still about OI.
We see it's still, you still need to draw from different results currently, no matter what model you're using, using the clean, you're using the wheel from Google, the result is not so certain currently, but I believe it will be a big update in the next three to five months, which means you can pay less money and getting much better result in the the future.
It's very interesting setup.
Okay, so this should be playing audio because we don't hear it, unfortunately.
So, this is a game from the World Warf.
It's a game from the Third.
Can you see which player is actually AI?
Actually, like both 2 and 3, they are AI.
So, they're using the ASR, which is audio recognition by the AR, the TTI, type 2 speech, the LM.
So, enable the natural voice interaction with
people in the multiplayer games.
So probably when you play some like multiplayer games, you don't know which of your teammates is real person in the future.
So pulling out the game.
Yeah.
So it really accelerates the team formation and the real time ma like uh the match matchmaking.
Because for example, if you play the game in a late night, probably we get four AI teammates in less than ten seconds, of course.
So and the the most important thing, the AI agents, it's worth the player's emotional engagement.
Sometimes you make mistakes in the game.
The AI will say, Hey, don't worry, you did really good job.
We call it like emotional, emotional damage,
emotional engagement.
Yeah, yeah.
And this is the analysis with AI.
So, I also made a website I call it NobCai.
It's a website made by me.
I'm using two models.
So the first one is GPD-5 Mini.
It's a multi-model which can recognize not only the text, but also all the image, all the review from the store.
At first, I check all the new games from the Google Play, LIs, and also the WeChat minigame.
Then I'm matching the history.
Then I think that I creating two different agents.
So the first aging is to give the review
for different games.
Another aging is to decide if the game is good for the mini game.
Then it can generate a product design report.
So, this is just a similar or the simple washing of my AI agent flow at open source and make it free for everyone.
I also have a very complicated one for myself and team.
You can use this AI agent to create a very detailed report for each game.
All done by AI.
Yep, by AI.
So, I say like AI in the future, so this is quite interesting.
So, this AI in generated shot video.
Okay, this looks like a Lazy survival.
After you play a few seconds of the AI generation
drama game, it turns to a hardcore
RPG game.
A hardcore and boring, but it still works.
success.
They're using the AI generation video drama to attract the user to download this video.
You can select a character, a female character, and play with them and watch their like personal videos if you want to unlock more personal videos there's a lot like videos like shower video blah blah blah blah you need to keep playing the srg keep playing rbg keep pop up
so build
another case we can see the top world they already made a lot the playable game in the wechat as well and they made for the google play and allies So, I say the AI is already widely used for the 2D arts and it's really speeding the SI creation and the inter
creation.
And for the future, or for the quarter four or for the next year, I say the 3D AI2, like the roading, the triple, and also the matching are making the breakthrough.
So, the AI-driving low-poly 3D content will be coming more and more common by minigames in 2026.
Another thing people are talking about, we're using the AI to make a game.
I think the biggest needs or the demands currently is to use AI to make the playball.
So the AI with playable will become the major growth track in the future.
It can generate not only the playable sites, but also good for some like prototype gameplays.
Also, in the future, I think for like most of the Traffic Buy or the UA system,
they may come up with their own like AI playable system in the future.
I already say like Moboysta have something like in future, they can use the AI to generate the
AI
playable
traffic guy or the UA material
with few
with less than 30 minutes.
Less than 30 minutes to generate the playable.
Yeah.
But
I think most of the games they're using the templates.
But I say probably, you know, the playable is really the big player in in the UA right now.
I think most, probably almost like 30 or 28 percentage of the revenue come
the UA are preferred by the playball rather than the rewarding video in this in September or probably for the quarter four this year.
Yeah, I think that's it.
Nice.
Yeah, perfect.
I'll go back to introducing a few.
So this is
a wi-fi are using GPT and
cloud to generate.
I built this Wi-Fi using the cursor in about two hours, including two parts.
The first thing I can collect all the games from Steam.
For example, I type 2, I get all the new game report from Steam.
So this is a newest game from Steam every day.
It reported to me every day.
Oh, what game you should call on?
What's good game you should copy?
What game you should copy?
After you find a game, you can also search the game.
I also collect some data from the WeChat as well.
So there are some top new WeChat mini games as well.
So this is really useful for me.
Yeah, I can guide what new games is really popular in WeChat currently.
Which one I should follow in future?
Follow.
Follow, follow.
Yeah.
Follow is a better world than copy.
Yeah.
So absolutely, you can use the AI to guide a very detailed report for different games.
I say this game,
can't understand Super Hall.
It looks amazing.
Yeah, it's look like fully generated by AI.
The game is called the Silver Hall Wife.
What's the filter by the way you take these games from?
Like last released or how's the category set up there in the AI?
I using, so they say the game from the Tencent.
I found the website.
It's called sg.qq.com.
There's some like a
I guess it's top new, it's top new like mini game.
I got this website.
So I using the cursor to write something, write a simple tool.
Yeah, to scroll all the games and search them from internet and generate the a simple reports for each game.
Okay, this is our game, the fifteen, yeah, the the girls.
Yeah.
So this is some top new game.
So for the for the LIs and for the Google Play, I use the same same way to gather all the information from the internet and generate some like reports for each game.
It's also see the game from the C game and some big company.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
There you go.
Yeah.
That's quite interesting.
Yeah.
So you can combine this like this too, probably with the sensor tower API or something.
The AI will tell you which game is popular and which game is really make money and which game you should follow.
Follow.
Oh, yeah.
Follow, as usual.
Okay, I'll stop my screen.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That was super enlightening.
Thank you for that.
Especially the numbers and the timelines that you mentioned, like how much it takes to get an ISBN, like how many developers are some of these games doing.
Yeah.
Six people, three of them are agents.
Amazing.
And it's what I heard is getting worse because most of the balls, I also got a lot of emails from Udo say when will come with the AI
AI tool for the playable game, so I can fear all the developers in the future.
So we don't I don't want any programmer any deal in the future otherwise like most of them they don't understand
the the the game plans or the game design so they they need they really need some tools for their player playable playable games for most of the big companies they may
like generate like one or two games like our every quarter but most of the huge of the major companies they may generate like like 20 to 50 playable games every day.
The average cost for the playable game is roughly about 1,000 to 2,000 US dollars.
They get
the suppliers from China or in Turkey.
I think most of the suppliers in Turkey, Vienna,
and China, the price is quite cheap.
They're using the template to just risk in with the AI sites.
But most of the playable game, I think only probably less than 10%
percentage of the playbook game could be used for their final UA plans.
Right even from the API still.
Yeah, they made a lot probably 30 to 50 like every day.
Okay, and only some people
can be used.
Okay.
Yeah, and some people, some major company like 37, they all the and also the 4399 game in China, they also have their own team, especially for the playball game,
because they can't trust the suppliers.
The suppliers, most of the suppliers, they're using the templates, they're just risking the templates with the sets from your gameplay.
But I think in the future, I think
if the AI will fail someone in the future, the first be affected should be the playable game developers.
So it's
not UI playables.
Yeah,
the boss say
we should generate the AI, we should generate playable by using the AI to generate the information from the game and generate a totally new playable game, especially for our game, based on our UA traffic by history to make the best playable game for our.
I think probably I'll say if there are two like this, probably we will come out probably quarter two last year, next year, like next year.
Interesting.
Yeah, yeah, thanks for sharing a lot.
Like, been very, very insightful.
Thank you.
If you can just say, like, where people can reach you, or like, if they're looking for you, like, how they can contact you, or like, what would be the best way to get in touch with you?
Okay, people can find my information from the website, the new Buchai.
So, this is my Wechai account.
There's also my email in this website as well.
You can find my, you can also get my, I'll also write my emails.
So, this is my personal emails
yeah please
feel free I will write stories most about how to fare the developers with you agent
okay
um any any other words Mate all good all good all good thank you very much for listening guys and also thanks for for coming on the podcast please uh if you like the episode comment in the comment section join the slack channel and hopefully, see you next time.
Thank you very much.
Bye-bye.
Bye-bye.
