Good morning, millennials. Welcome back to The Toast and happy fucking Friday.
Like my God, thank you, Jesus and all the Lords of all people for bringing us to this moment. It's very exciting for a number of reasons.
Second full week of the new year in the books. And I actually, I read a statistic that most new year's resolutions are broken on the second Friday of January like and don't you feel that way that like that resolution energy has just gone out the window like you've made it till today I don't relate to that because my relationship with resolutions is like I don't do them and on the one or two years I have actually done them it was such an important important resolution, like the vaping, or when I decided to change my whole life philosophy, saying yes to life.
Like those are the two resolutions I've ever even tried. I've never been a person on January 1st who like goes to the gym.
Like, so I don't participate in resolution culture. To be honest, I'm very much participate in resolution culture.
And I was feeling like the lag this week and I was feeling really unmotivated and if I hadn't read that statistic I could see myself like giving up because by the way what's worse than being another statistic right it's the weekend so I'm not like up on my goals on the weekend I could see myself like giving up by Monday but now that I read the statistic I do not want to be just a statistic so I'm going to carry on I have my. We are drinking less and less before the show every day, which is good because I can't keep running to pee.
So I just have to up my water intake in the afternoon. It is so important that I, at the top of this show, issue two enormous corrections from yesterday's episode.
One of them is yours. Okay.
Lane Meester was not in parentharenthood. Okay.
In my defense, Minka Kelly is in Parenthood. And in my defense, have the two of them ever been seen in the same room together? Same trail or different park.
Like literally. They're the same person.
They look alike. They have similar career trajectories.
Of course, I correct. I stand corrected.
But my heart was in the right place. And mine was also in the right place.
And and I see how I made this error but when I was like getting my actual diatribe that's so me by the way whenever I have to issue a correction it's never like an offhand remark it's something I spoke about for 15 minutes um yeah you're very passionate about the severance tv show that um we did yesterday about like their big marketing campaign I was talking about my experience with the show alert, I've actually never seen Severance. What I thought was Severance was actually a show called Industry.
And I could see how you could be confused about that. Look up the posters.
They're the same fucking show. They both take place like in the workplace.
And I apologize, I've actually never seen Severance. Now I kind of want to.
It sounds like something I might be interested in. I had watched Industry on HBO Max.
I apologize. That whole thing statement, I made everybody just undo Control Z.
I heard Severance is a great show. Yeah, so maybe we'll give Severance a shot.
Show called Severance. Show called Severance.
Streaming on Apple TV. I have a very complicated relationship with Apple TV subscription.
Like I refuse. I let a lot of my subscriptions stay dormant.
Like I'm never going to cancel Netflix, Hulu, Macs. Like even if I'm not watching them so frequently, like that's baked into my monthly expenses.
But there are certain ones, like if I'm not using it, like with Ted Lasso, I would sign up for Apple TV. The second I was done with Ted Lasso, we're canceling Apple TV.
Same goes for Peacock. I'm not like attached to Peacock.
I'll sign up to watch something and then I will cancel. Same with Paramount Plus.
Some of them haven't really like adapted to my monthly expenses. Most of them, I don't really go through the subscriptions and change them.
What I have is what I have. But I feel you about Apple TV.
They don't have enough content to justify paying a separate price when I already have. You're telling me my Apple TV doesn't come with Apple TV Plus? Yeah, that part's really disgusting.
So crazy. So it's kind of, it's on principle that I won't pay for it.
Because that makes no sense. I bought your device when I could have bought a Fire Stick or a Roku or something.
And you're going to make me pay to watch like one show that you have you have one show to be clear like a lot of the networks that have streaming platforms like also have products like fire stick fire stick doesn't come with prime but if you ordered it on prime like you probably have prime you know the thing about prime though is we don't know what we're paying for like I have prime I I assume how much is it I signed up I get to watch prime tv Molly May I know I have that I don't see a bill for I signed up for amazon prime when I was in high school I don't think I ever signed no you jack you had to have pride no prime sign because it used to be like when we were all just using amazon's like order stuff in high school um it used to be that like you could get it or you could get it in two days with Amazon Prime. And if you were ordering enough, like it really justified.
It wasn't a crazy price. And I've never.
What's the price? I don't want to know because it's such to me, like there are 30,000 things I would cancel before I would ever cancel my Amazon Prime. Like I rely on it to live.
I agree. And also like when I, I'm a Prime member apparently.
Does that cover my video, my Prime video? Actually, no. I know that Prime Video has recently like done its thing because I like have Prime Video, I guess.
But now the Prime Video that I have has ads. So like they've obviously up to, there's like a tier.
And I actually don't use prime video that much. So I'm not going to pay for it.
But when I was watching. Stop with the tiers.
Stop making me make hard choices. Yeah.
And there are certain streaming services that have like tiers. Like even the highest tier still has ads.
Like girl. They're wild.
That's crazy. They're wild crazy yeah it's a mess it's a mess and I actually one of my not a resolution but at the beginning of the year because I pay my taxes at the end of the year so in December of last year I paid my taxes and of course then I always want to start out after that like being a little bit more fiscally responsible so one of my goals was to get all my subscriptions in order like I just, sometimes I see a charge for like a dollar for like a VPN I used once.
And that was like a year ago.
So that's $12.
Like, so I really want to get my subscriptions in order.
That's a goal of mine.
Not a resolution, but a goal.
There's really good apps for that.
Yes, actually, one of them is a sponsor today.
Oh my goodness.
It's actually a very good sponsor.
So spoiler alert, stay tuned for the code.
Should we do that ad right now? Honestly, yeah. It's so organic.
It's actually a very good sponsor. So spoiler alert, stay tuned for the code.
Should we do that ad right now? Honestly, honestly, yeah. It's so organic.
It's so organic. It's so organic.
And now I need to go get it. Guys, the start of the new year, hold on.
No, but actually, listen, this is a good one. This start of the new year.
This is such a good goal. Is the perfect time to get organized, set goals, and prioritize what matters most.

For ones that you don't want anymore, they can also help you cancel them, which is like, yeah, once you know what to cancel, that's the easy part. Physically going and remembering? No, Rocket Money does everything for you.

sore sore and I will be using rocket money and also just to say I have an announcement which is that I alluded to yesterday redheads drama the book that I chose is inaccessible unavailable we don't like that not working so I've chosen a new book and I just want to announce it here I'm going to post a little podcast clip to the redheads I'll announce it on Instagram but I just want to get it out there we we will be reading The Wedding People by Allison oh my god I've been hearing all about that book it's on my list we're reading it for the redheads join us I'm very excited like do something so trendy it's everywhere so I've seen it a couple different places I was really leaning on AI to help me pick a book because I was like giving them like what we like or it's and this was one of the choices I almost picked but it felt really trendy kind of like a rom-com I'm like I'm not in that mood they gave me this thriller that I wound up picking that's only available in the UK so if Molly Mae wants to join the redheads like she could have um so then I went back to the drawing board and this book kept coming up and it was a read with Jenna pick and she always picks really good books a lot of our picks have converged in the past and I'm always really happy with those books so I think it's a safe choice and at this point I want something that's massively available that people could get on the Kindle at their library I hate to tell you how to do your job but I do like when the redheads choose something like on trend now trendy books. Let's be real.
Like anytime you hear about it all over Goodreads, like it's a piece of shit and it's just never good. Having said that, like for, this is a business, the redheads, and it's good for you guys to be on trend.
The thing is we go through, I go through waves of that feeling where it's like, let's read the book that everyone's talking about. But then it sometimes doesn't live up to the hype.
We don't have like the best conversations. A people have already read it and discussed it and it's like we're just circling the drain so then we're like let's read a book that everybody's reading for the first time but I also don't want to pick something from 10 years ago because maybe people did read it 10 years ago and then they don't want to listen to the episode now you know it's really a dance and then the craziest part is that we haven't read the book so right we don't know if it is a good book if I was doing recommendations about books I already read easy yeah that's so true well I wish you the best I really do it was inevitable that something like this would happen we will be reading the wedding people and I'm very excited I'm excited too I meant to tell you like something I've been keeping up with is like the today show guest co-hosts and some people have come and gone and I feel like there was like no waves made let me tell you all over social media Kiki Palmer was yesterday and she just like crushed it there was like so many funny moments sweet moments earnest moments and she has a new movie coming out that like seriously I've only seen promoted on TikTok I don't know why this movie is getting no like I don't know where the marketing budget it's starring her and SZA and Maude Apude Apatow's in it, like it's like this trio, like girls night type.
It looks so funny. I'm like, I don't know where I can see this movie.
For some reason the rollout is not giving me faith that it's gonna be like mass distributed. And of course I don't know what it's called.
But so she's doing a lot of press and people fucking loved her. Like I think if she wants the job, there has been such positive feedback from Kiki and Jenna that I actually think the job is hers to turn down I think she would be fantastic I wonder if she wants that job because it does mean you kind of have to give up other things some of your other hats and she's someone who always has like multiple projects because she is a multifaceted entertainer so just to be sat there five days a week, very routine, I don't know if it's your dream job.
That's why the job tends to go to women who are a little bit older in the industry
because they've done that, you know?
They've spent their 20s and 30s like doing the most
and trying every opportunity.
And then it's nice to have some stability
and just go to work every morning at the same place.
It's not for everyone.
I agree.
Like you can't have like a thriving acting comedy.
She's like really also an influencer, a podcaster. You can't do all of that while also being like a daytime daily host but I'm happy to see her getting like the feedback and the respect that she deserves I'm just not surprised yeah things that don't surprise me you know what but has kind of confounded me me and Ben had like this 30 minute conversation last night that we actually ended up in a fight because like I thought he was giving such bad answers.
I have been singing Guilty as Sin, like by Taylor Swift. It's like been stuck in my head.
And I keep getting stuck on this lyric that like I actually, it could be in Chinese. Like I do not understand it, okay? You can probably help me.
And I said to Ben, I'm like, what do you think this means? It had been like bothering me all day. And he gave like such a wrong answer.
I'm like, okay, nevermind. Why am I talking? Do you think he would give a right answer? Sometimes he's very profound.
And I'm like, okay, you know what? Nevermind. Like I asked the wrong person.
I should have asked Jackie. So tell me what you think this lyric means.
Okay. If long suffering propriety is what they want from me, they don't know how you've haunted me so stunningly.
What the fuck does that mean? first of all i had to google what propriety means
i don't know what it means like but i'm going to use context okay what it means is like forcing someone to conform like acting proper propriety okay if long-suffering propriety is what they want from me say they don't know how you've haunted me so stunningly.
Well, before you gave the definition of propriety,
I was going off of like suffering and it's like they want me to suffer for a long time.
I think propriety is negative.
Like saying like.
Well, yeah, okay.
They've wanted me to suffer propriety for a long time
and they don't know that you've haunted me so stunningly.
Haunting is a negative thing.
Like they don't know that I've been suffering propriety.
But then the next lyric, I choose you and me religiously he's making you suffer why do you choose him I mean that's a classic question like literally ask any girl in a relationship or that's pining after a person that doesn't want her and yeah the choosing you and me religiously is what's making her suffer. Because it's long-suffering propriety.
And he's haunting her because he don't want her.
Who's it about?
Maddie Healy.
Yeah.
This makes sense.
Does it?
Because Ben was getting stuck on the word stunningly.
Like saying that it was about like beauty.
I'm like, no.
Oh, goodness.
Yeah, no.
I'm like, no, you're wrong.
Like, you are wrong.
Yeah.
No, it's just an adjective.
Right.
I'm like, but the stunning, I said Ben, the stunning doesn't refer to a person who refers to the haunting like it's a possessive adjective yeah and he was no and then we just started fighting like oh well you shouldn't have even asked him not because like he couldn't be helpful in something but like with taylor you kind of have to know the lure a little bit and the lore of the sometimes and i feel like this happened a lot in ttpTPD, like she lyricized like a little too close to the sun. I feel like the older she gets, the less of her lyrics, like I actually understand.
She's like a little too smart. I find myself having to Google words.
Yeah. I also would need like the context clues of the rest of the song.
Yeah. But it does sound like people want her to suffer and little do you know I've been suffering by pining over this person who has haunted me who I would choose every day religiously who wouldn't choose me and that is suffering I asked you like I feel like I kind of get it but I also might really be analyzing them too much on the surface I have a tendency to do that lyrics of course I'm not very um deep what's the word no no I am deep but I just sometimes I just I'm too on the surface in my analyzation I don't know how else to describe it so maybe there's something so maybe there's more that I'm missing oh update on our theme song competition it is still in full swing.
And as of this morning, you know, the Supreme Court has decided to uphold the TikTok ban. So Sunday is still the deadline for the theme song competition.
Jackie and I are looking all across the nation for a new theme song. Well, not a new, our first theme song for this podcast right here.
You can submit on Instagram Reels or on TikTok using the hashtag ToastThemesong. Try theme song um try to stand out you know play an instrument do what you want and we're looking for like a 30 to 60 second jingle not too long not too short um of course the one and only social media competition we've ever run that's taking place on tiktok ends on the day that tiktok will be banned so if we want to sit down and watch all the tiktoks on sunday and make a decision like we actually we're gonna have to save and like screenshot the profiles of people I didn't even think about that like how we're gonna I do think like the the people who have really put them their whole cells into it on our real contenders are are on both but just keep that in mind that is so crazy we've never done anything like this and of course it's we chose the day we're gonna have to do Saturday night like Saturday night yeah Saturday night school but the competition is not over if you have not submitted yet we really encourage you to this has been so much fun oh also the winner wins five thousand dollars that's like a huge part and a contract with Toast Studios so that's just huge um that's kind of worth more than the five thousand dollars um and we're really excited so hashtag Toast theme song I've been loving watching everybody's competition some mish and yeah this has kind of been like one of the best weeks of my life because of it yeah it's been really fun and I'm mostly excited to have a theme song me too because some of the ones that I've listened to have given me chills which is also like if you don't give me chills like whether it could have been the best song but it didn't give me chills so it's not gonna win um and just have that experience every day I think will be really yeah and I'm like struggling because the one that I think is best um there has been another one that I was singing in my head all day yesterday, which is kind of like the benchmark of a good theme song.
So I'm feeling really torn, but I'm also still open if somebody, I just want, I can't stress it up that the competition is still open. Like.
I think also that we'll pick our favorites two or three, and then maybe we'll like ask friends and family to vote. And that that won't be like the decision but that might help us see what the people gravitate towards it's a very intricate decision and voting process so complex a lot of people don't understand how hard we work personally on this it's kind of like American Idol like everybody has because there are certain videos on TikTok that have gone viral one of them is like a quarter of a million views but like but like, and that's great.
That doesn't equal winner. It's.
Oh, no, it just means that we will see it for sure. Even though we will see all of them.
It's good to know though. People just scroll till the end of the hashtag.
Like that's good too. That's true.
That is very true. So there's a couple of buckets that go into the final vote, which is like Claudia and I, our friends and family, like social media reception.
It's just, it's, it's a very layered and complex equation. Yeah.
Resulting in the best result. Wouldn't you say? I would hope that the equation would result in the best result, but you know, time will tell.
Okay. And what do you think about this? If we're between two options, if we had like an intro song and an outro song.
Like that's when the podcast gets like crazy. Like more songs, like just more songs.
I mean, I think like if none of them work out, we could always do. What if he's written my mole on my upper thigh mole? That's always an option.
Of course. That's guilty as sin.
I just learned. Of course we could also do.
So that's again. And I'll never stop singing my pargy song.
Like we have options, of course. If we like took the time, we could have done this ourselves.
Yeah, but who wants to do that when you could host a competition? We're busy women. We are busy women.
I'm such the Simon though, wouldn't you say? Oh, actually you're so Paula like you're you think everything is so good like I'll send it to you and you'd be like oh my god I love it I'm like really like you are definitely the Simon you might be Randy who was who was more lenient Randy or Paula like Paula had empathy that neither of the other two had but Randy had a low bar for talent like yeah i don't even know how how did those three become so iconic when i can't like even distinguish the personalities of randy and paula i think randy was just like more laid back yeah in his critique and i think paula like had a lot of energy like was definitely the one like the katie perry who was just like making best friends with. And like was there to serve looks and like be glamorous Paula Abdul.
Yeah. So crazy.
So crazy. That was such an interesting, because now it's like they look for the biggest and baddest star to put in one of those chairs.
But like those were three unknown. Now, of course, Paula Abdul isn't unknown, but for the audience that was watching, I had no idea who Paula Abdul was.
No, me neither. So it and like we knew this was like an older successful pop star and she was like known for her dancing but I had zero I never heard a Paula Abdul song in my life um so the fact that they became so known is actually so crazy yeah and then they tried with x-factor they tried to make like la reed the randy jackson he did a good job but X Factor wasn't appreciated in its own time.
X Factor US. Yeah.
Yeah.
That's. X Factor.
They tried to make like L.A. Reed, the Randy Jackson.
He did a good job, but X Factor wasn't appreciated in its own time. X Factor US.
Yeah. Yeah.
What can you do? Where were you when you first heard Carly Rosson and Claire? Oh, I was sad is where I was. Yeah, exactly.
Well, I guess we should get into the stories to bid you farewell to the week. We have Queenie and Weenie this week.
Do you have yours? I do. I wrote them down.
I actually had a hard time. I think it was because this week felt so long that I think on Monday I wrote down somebody like that.
I just wanted to put into contention for my Queenie. And now it just feels so irrelevant.
It just feels like last week. No, I know.
Because it's been so long. Yeah.
Also, the good news is, is that next week is a short week. Oh, yeah.
Let's thank you so much for reminding. We're embarking on a three-day weekend you guys know we respect the hell out of federal holidays and I would never disrespect my King Martin Luther and that's on Monday so MLK Day literal literal King MLK Day there is no toast that's Monday so just prepare yourselves I think that's a federal holiday that's widely respected like some like yeah like certain holidays have become like everybody goes to work on Columbus Day and people like oh really you have off for armor day yeah I do so not all of them are as respected but I feel like everybody's off on Monday and I do feel like after two long hard full weeks like we need a day off as a society not just us like it was a lot coming back into the year and but with like the tiktok band like we all need time to sort of like reset yes and as you said like monday is just a big day for the world also like with the hostage deal like it's just a big day so uh we'll be off i just wanted to say one thing like not to like bring it up after like you said hostage deal so it sounds so vain but like um a lot of i was just when we were adding to our list like our monday list i realized like the first if the deal goes as planned like the first hostages are said to be released on monday okay so i'm actually not gonna say what i was gonna like now i feel really even more well okay let me say like just something else and then you could say it yeah um don't forget new redhead's book is the wedding people it's gonna be an amazing episode with fun with friends and family so I feel like I actually haven't given my official thoughts on the tiktok band like I've been updating everybody on it and like how does turdy feel and I obviously love tiktok I'm kind of the tiktok correspondent for my generation um I feel like your thought your feelings are complicated and you've been parsing my feelings are complicated let me tell you why like am I resentful that like I never reached a million followers and I'm definitely underappreciated as fucking hell on that app.
Yes. So do they deserve to go down for that? Absolutely.
A hundred percent. Um, but I've gotten to such a good place in my tick.
Like I pop up on TikTok at least once a day. Like I'm, I've like, oh, I'm in such a good place.
Like my engagement's crushing it. Like I'm getting so many brand deals.
Like I'm going to miss that. I'm going to miss miss the attention but I actually know that I will be better off because of it like I have a very complicated relationship with the app like I love it so much I rot for hours and I know that it's bad for me and it's like I've got to enter this phase of my life where I need to be present and so I know they're not doing this for me but in its own way it feels like it's being done me.
Like I'm actually looking forward to the person I become
without this kind of addiction in my life.
It's kind of like the vape.
I think that's-
Like I loved it, but I hate it.
I agree.
I do think it's coming back though.
So like this will be short-lived.
And on the plus side,
like all the money that the brands were spending on you
on TikTok that like you would be missing that,
like those brands will spend that money elsewhere,
whether it's on Instagram, on the podcast.
Although, can you explain something to me?
I'm going to go. were spending on you on TikTok that like you would be missing that like those brands will spend that money elsewhere whether it's on Instagram on the podcast although can you explain something to me it's live events trips to the cake me and Ben were like talking about like China yesterday obviously what else what else do two people talk about and he was asking like why okay so like China's stealing our data and spying on us for sure like why is that bad and I was like oh well I love to cite the 60 minute segment once watched.
I like actually really colored a lot of my opinions on TikTok and like how they really do use it as like a weapon. They use TikTok, this amazing algorithm in China to like further the education of minors and teach kids to, you know, valuable lessons in math and STEM.
And then they use that same sort of algorithm to target Americans. So I keep them fat, lazy and mentally ill.
Like, yeah. And they use it like to, they convince people like on TikTok that you have mental illnesses that you don't have.
Like it's actually the 60 minute segment. If you just Google it, it was actually really powerful.
Like, cause at first I was like, who gives a fuck? So I was telling Ben that he's like, no, no, no, that I know. But like the actual data, like, okay, so they have our data.
Now what? Like what, what's bad? Well, so I think for a regular person who's not remarkable, it's like not a huge deal to have your data.
But then there are people like they get into your phone, they get into your wifi network.
There are people whose parents work in government there.
It's ways to get amongst other threats, but it's ways to get proprietary information that
maybe just the 13 year old dancing in their room doesn't know. but like their dad has, or mom has government secrets.
Or mom. Okay then also, then explain this to me.
Cause everybody, like, and you just said like you think it's coming back for sure. Even though the Supreme Court has upheld like the legality of banning it.
They say like, no, no, no, the law, there's nothing stopping the law from stopping this ban. Like it's legit.
They just said that this morning. So obviously today's the last like working day of Biden's presidency.
So now it's up to Trump. But like Trump's thing is he hates China.
Like, so why, why would he? Why would we think it's coming back? I think because whatever like makes it so nefarious and there are a couple different things, I think those will get solved. Whether it's a a sale whether it's parameters in place I think
yeah but the thing I said earlier in the week is true about like that it can't be inextricable
it can't be unlinked from the bite company which is based in China like their data centers
even if you buy the company like for in order for the company to still exist separately like
it has to be linked I feel like maybe it doesn't I love that there's a workaround maybe there's a
Thank you. for the company to still exist separately like it has to be linked I feel like maybe it doesn't I love that there's a work around maybe there's a song and if anything it'll take I think the issues will get will get solved a bit is what not it's just gonna like oh we'll keep doing this because this has been a problem for a very long time and then Ben also had an interesting point he was like you know what and Ben doesn't like come at this with any sort of agenda he's just like a curious person which i like it was like but you know what like if anybody started an app eight years ago and was able to sell it today it's worth 400 billion dollars that's like the market value the fact that they don't want to sell it like that gives nefarious vibes because the whole point of starting like a tech company is to like you know sell it and make money and you've successfully built the biggest one in the shortest amount of time and now we're like the government is begging is begging you to sell it, begging.
And you won't? Why? Because money maybe wasn't your goal spying on 13-year-olds whose dads work in government or moms. Well, and that's just like one case of how they could spy, but just like they had to spy.
No, of course, of course. Like, they like to see what America, like, then they have like full visibility.
I get it. I get it.
Like, we are into American life. We are so interesting.
Like, if I was living in China and I worked for intelligence, I would want to know what was going on here, too. Like, we are the most fabulous people.
We are so complex and we are, of course, not perfect. But, like, if I could spy on any country, like, of course, I would want to be this one.
We are sick. We're gorgeous.
God bless America. Like, I get it.
I get the intrigue. Their obsession.
Like, I get it. Yeah, it's a real intrigue.
Think about all the people who live here. First of all, us.
Like, who's more interesting they totally want in our face like they're so if i was a chinese spy i would say i want them first yeah i'd say these girls are really high threat and we need to be listening to everything we are head threat we're extremely influential yeah yeah well they can hear your end of the call not mine so true how do you actually? And I feel like you haven't been annoying about this at all. As somebody who has resisted TikTok for these reasons, there have been, like, from day one, like, weird concerns about China.
And at first it was, like, a conspiracy theory. And now it's, like, at the Supreme Court.
And you have sort of stuck to your guns. And we all made fun of you.
And it has made your life difficult. And honestly difficult, you know, for the people around you, too, download and sending.
And you not only, like, do you feel vindicated? you feel vindicated you haven't been like annoying about it at all no I don't feel like I was right or anything because it's not like this was a working theory that I had like I was reading the same stuff as you guys I just like took it more seriously um and then there were also like aside from like the spying like it definitely the mental health I just realized like how much time I would be spending on my phone if I had TikTok and not that I don't't spend a lot of time on my phone, but it's not a number I want to add to. And I'm just really hopeful.
Like I hope that people come to Reels because then Reels will get even better. And the brand, more brands on Instagram, whenever they're like, do you have TikTok? I'm like, yeah, like, okay.
Cha-ching down the toilet. So true.
But by the way, I think what you said is super, like we could all like talk about China. Like like what the fuck do we know I actually think like the mental health implications for an app that is so targeted towards young people like that's the benefit of it getting banned like obviously the national security which is like a little high level for me I'm not going to pretend to understand it but like I won't be if I had like a teenager right now I would be thrilled right that's so I think it will be a net good thing and all social media is like ripe with issues um but at least it feels like with most of the big platforms here like they at least pretend to care they're also like embedded so much in culture that like I don't think of Instagram as addictive I think of it as like work and I can like I can put it down no but if there was like an issue with Instagram and teens like Mark Zuckerberg would at least pretend to do something about it and not like certainly not try and make it worse and celebrate it um but he might put in something and there might be laws in place like I know there's laws in Florida about like teen like you can't have social media before a certain age so like at least there are things you can do and I just feel like TikTok has just gotten like so out of control but that's also you know.
It's like too big to to monitor even. Yeah but and not that I'm so for like monitoring or anything um that's why these like issues are complicated but I think the issue is that it is being monitored in a nefarious way.
It's not just like it like they are tailoring right you know people with 30 worst sorts of content to people and promoting that as opposed to it actually just being like free speech, do whatever you want. And the cream will rise.
It's not the cream that's rising. That's the issue.
How do you feel about like proceeding with the remaining ads? Like, are we going to dive into the past five stories ads? So we have one more ad break. Yeah.
And like, I feel so off kilter. Let's do the first ad break after story number two today since everything's been bumped up I'm not gonna do it after story number two because now you've just sort of spoiled it for people but you guys just stay tuned you never know when they'll hit you well now it is time for the fast five stories that you do need to know if you are ready I am like it just feels weird to be ready.
Our first story is a big story of the day and you know of of the last few months um but a new update has emerged from Justin Baldoni's lawsuit because Justin Baldoni is claiming that Ryan Reynolds and Taylor Swift pressured him to accept Blake Lively's It Ends With Us rewrite in a new complaint. So Justin Baldoni has filed a $400 million lawsuit against Blake and her husband and their publicist on Thursday, January 16th, less than a month after Blake filed a complaint alleging sexual harassment and a retaliatory smear campaign.
And so this is a 179 page complaint. There's a lot of discovery and things and you can go read all read all of that however among the claims made in this complaint he alleges that taylor swift and ryan reynolds pressured him into accepting one of blake lively's rewrites for the film christy hall is credited as a screenwriter who adapted colleen hoover's blockbuster novel so in the pre-production phase lively allegedly asked to take a pass on the film's rooftop scene, where her character Lily meets his character Ryle for the first time.
Justin was, quote, reluctant to let her rewrite this key scene per the complaint, but agreed to take a look at what she put together. Justin claims her version was, quote, dramatically different from how it was originally written, and after his, quote, exceedingly mild resistance, Lively, quote, went silent for multiple days and later said in alleged text message that his reaction to her rewrite, quote, didn't feel great for me.
Or to Reynolds and what Baldoni characterizes as, quote, another mega celebrity friend. A text message included in the filing reveals that, quote, influential and wealthy celebrity friend is Taylor Swift.
Justin claimed that he was, quote, summoned to an earlier meeting with Ryan
at their New York City penthouse
where the pop star, Taylor, arrived
and began praising Lively's script.
Baldoni understood the subtext.
He needed to comply with Blake's direction for the script.
Per the complaint, he felt he didn't need Ryan
and her mega-celebrity friend to pressure him,
so he texted her that while her changes made the scene, quote,
so much more fun and interesting, he would have felt that way without Ryan and Taylor, adding a playful emoji. Blake allegedly responded by comparing herself to the Game of Thrones character, Khaleesi.
And that Ryan and Taylor are her two dragons. Like the sheer fact that this like Real Housewives level of drama is in a lawsuit is so embarrassing to me, honestly.
And people are just gooped and gagged by this. The screenshots going around make Blake look out to be like such a loser and such a mean girl.
And I don't think that's really ever been up for debate. Like the crazy thing to me is like he filed this 200 page lawsuit 400 million dollars and not one of it disputes the the original claims that he sexually harassed people on this set they had to take a break and come up with deal terms and what so blake lively's a bitch what does one have to do with the other like his entire lawsuit yes this makes her look really bad which has been like the theme the whole time.
She's a mean girl. Her texts are so fucking cringe.
Like my dragons, my Khaleesi, like cringe. Okay, but you know what else is cringe? Sexually harassing your female co-stars.
Like I don't see what one has to do with the other. Because it won't change how I feel about this situation, but you just get a glimpse into someone's personality and it's a little painful.
She said, if you ever get around to watching Game of Thrones, you'll appreciate that I'm Khaleesi. And like her, I happen to have a few dragons for better or worse, but usually for better because my dragons also protect those I fight for.
So really, we all benefit from those gorgeous monsters. Stop.
No, I actually cringe. There's a chill down my spine.
Smiling emoji. You will too.
I can promise you. promise you and like great let's say Justin Baldoni is telling the truth everything in his 179 page lawsuit is completely factual okay Blake Lively and her fancy husband and her fancy friend Taylor Swift like wanted to take over the project not a crime definitely like a bad personality trait but nowhere in there does he dispute any of the things that were alleged about him, you know, making her add more nudity scenes, being weird about the intimacy coordinator, showing nude images to female co-stars.
Like, I really, I don't understand how this has what to do. This is, I think, another strategy in what was originally, oh, and by the way, there is no disputing that he hired people to do astroturfing like so all the things that were in originals blake's original complaint like to me have not been disputed at all if anything like he's giving us evidence as to why he was mad at her and did that in the first place she told on him to sag about his inappropriate behavior and then she uh wait oh my god it's crazy how your brain like just turns off like he's mad at her because and did all that because oh yeah she told on her to sag and she was like a pain in the ass on set so I think here and I it's getting confusing and I think that's the intended effect but um he is trying to also prove why he hired crisis PR because all of the things that happened that he's not disputing there were there was beef and there were disagreements and creative disagreements and a million other things and so he's showing why he went on the defensive which then it looked like an offense right but the crazy thing is is to the public no one was ever team blake like she never put together any sort of strategy when the movie was coming out it was all making her look bad so he he's like i was on the a defensive from what we never thought anything other than you were the good guy and she was the bad guy right no but now he's having to prove that there was an offensive that either hadn't launched yet or was in the midst of it before like he came forward with his he sounds like a conspiracy theorist like he sounds a little crazy because all i've gotten from everything his original complaint and now this lawsuit is that blake was mean and her fancy friends who jack made me feminist feel bad and by the way i can completely see a world in which like blake lively who's the most beautiful woman in the world married to like one of the most handsome best Shrins and Taylor Swift made me feminist feel bad.
And by the way, I can completely see a world in which like Blake Lively, who's the most beautiful woman in the world, married to like one of the most handsome best friends of Taylor Swift. Like she's definitely a bitch.
And she definitely, like she's not even an amazing actress. So I could see her like coming on being like, I want to do X, Y, and Z.
It's like, girl, just do your job. You're not even going to, like, I can see all that.
None of that literally means anything to me. Like when there is proof and pretty much confirmation of like that list of 30 things that he was acting inappropriately on set, harassing people sexually.
Like why is that equal to being mean? It's not. These are two separate claims.
Yeah, I don't think it's saying it's equal to being mean. I think- No, but he's trying to sway public opinion.
It's like, I was accused of sexual harassment. Well, these people were mean to me.
Okay. No, but he's like saying's like saying Blake showed like what happened before the astroturfing campaign and now he's showing what happened before that led to the thing that led to the thing I never wanted to know this much about two people about one movie like just if stop making movies everyone like if it's this hard to just agree on a rooftop scene like seriously the book was written for you just write what's in the book it's really not that hard that's the other thing like taylor swift definitely read this book like on her own because she like we know she likes to read and like this is a very popular big book especially for women and i could see her like really getting like so excited that her friend was playing lily and like wanting to get involved and i think it's a really you know unique Because Justin, I think, is motivated a lot by public opinion.
Like, of course, he wants to win.
But I think he cares a lot about what people think of him.
And including Taylor Swift in your lawsuit, it's kind of a risky move.
She's universally beloved.
And I think people have, like, made, like, sort of an exception for Blake.
They're like, yeah, she's Taylor's best friend. Like, she sucks because everybody's now, because everybody's now like off of team Blake but now it's like well Taylor's a part of it so where do you land I think it's going to be really interesting to see if that hurts him or helps him yeah also I feel like we already forgot that her song was a part of the movie and that was like a really big um hype for my tears so So she's not uninvolved in the movie I forgot about that yeah so he probably had to like cozy up to Taylor because she's doing this favor giving the song yeah and she's like a part of the excitement around the movie and then also Justin like posted pictures yesterday of him in the basement at the premiere with his family like let me tell you how I do not care that you were at the basement in the premiere like you in the what regardless of what happened like you and the lead actress don't get along you don't like each other she will walk the carpet and then you will walk the carpet and sure you can wait in the basement you can wait in your car I don't give a shit I don't feel sorry for you that at your big fancy movie premiere that you were in a basement that like looks totally fine and lovely I have such a like a hot take on the basement because and I know everybody's like, just Claudia, you're not going to be ever team Justin.
And I'm not, but like, this is somebody who, in my opinion now has been really accused with a lot of proof of sexually harassing female co-stars. None of the female co-stars wanted to be around him.
They did not feel comfortable so much so that at a work event, the premiere, you had to be sequestered like a prisoner in the basement. Like that's
what they do with people who are dangerous or like you are a threat. Like you're not
being kept. They're being kept from you.
Like everybody was fine to walk together and be
together upstairs. You were the outlier because you are a threat and you sexually harass these
people. Like I felt like when he released those pictures, I was like, you're literally
admitting that like you had to be kept separate like like a a violent criminal yeah this didn't do for me like I don't feel sorry for you but people are like I'm a movie theater with all this popcorn all your friends and family it's it's just big night he worked so hard like people are seriously not okay just about don't he's not gonna fuck you if you write a nice tweet about him. Like, people are like, it's so upsetting.
Like, this was his big night.
He worked so hard.
Like, girl.
It's literally not so upsetting.
It's not upsetting at all.
It ain't.
Like, I'm sorry.
It doesn't move the needle.
At this point, I feel like people have chosen their sides, right?
Like, at first, people were really easily swayed.
Like, oh, one lawsuit, I'm here.
One lawsuit, I'm there.
And now, like, the dust has settled and people have decided what team they're're on I can safely say I've never really switched from disliking Justin Baldoni um and like nothing I don't think no amount of pages in a lawsuit is going to change people's minds now yeah like enough has been done that point so now also I feel bad for the courts and the jury that will have to sift through all this and relitigate all of this. What state? California.
It was California. Sorry.
Yes, it was.
Because. So I feel bad for the courts and the jury that will have to sift through all this and re-litigate all of this.
What state? California. It was California.
Sorry. Yes, it was.
Because they filmed in California. And it's like, as if the people of California haven't been through enough, now they have to sit on a jury going through this mindless Real Housewives drama.
Like the receipts, like literally it's like Monique and her binder. Like it's so-numbing yeah so they'll duke it out and I guess we'll wait to see who the courts find yeah because you know this is just us and also everyone is selectively reading these documents it's so true like I want to see how Blake Lively sends a text and now I don't want to see no by the way I've seen enough please never give this woman my number like she's unstreadful she sounds absolutely true me and my dragons like yikes I'm Khaleesi it's butt clenching like it's so cringe agreed are you ready for our next story I'm desperate to change the subject I agree uh Lady gaga jelly roll and stevie nicks will be playing fire aid benefit concert for la wildfire relief so a big concert is coming together for la wildfire relief and the biggest names in music are coming together to raise funds for those affected by the devastating wildfires right now the lineup includes.
Billie Eilish and Phineas.
Earth Wind and Fire.
Gracie Abrams. I want to remember.
The name is a little.
Is a little tasteless.
They should have went EWF.
They should have changed their name.
Gracie Abrams.
Green Day.
Gwen Stefani.
Jelly Roll.
Joni Mitchell.
Katy Perry.
Lady Gaga. Lil Baby.
Pink. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rod Stewart, Sting, Stephen Stills.
John Mayer. Stevie Nicks and Tate McRae.
For the first time ever, Dave Matthews Band and John Mayer will take the stage together for a special performance. That's so nice to see like all these people.
Speaking of all the streamers we were talking talking about this will be streamed live on all of the streamers oh it will they're coming together apple music apple tv max i heart radio paramount plus netflix prime video amazon music all of them yeah it's nice to see people from like country music um getting involved because they all like did a benefit for north carolina and there was like no pop people who were their time. Like it was like Keith Urban, John Mayer, I mean not John Mayer, Luke Holmes, Eric Church.
So like Jelly Roll showing up representing the community we love to see. This just reminded me of, oh, I wanted to talk about Jelly Roll because I wanted to talk about, actually I have to thank your husband for this.
When me, you, and our a double date to Yardhouse the greatest restaurant in all of America um he was driving and he put on music and he put on the F1 Trillion album Post Malone's Country and I had listened to I actually hadn't listened to the album in full I knew Luke Combs I like selectively chose the ones that were popular like the Morgan Wallen collab and the uh Blake Shelton collab then I of course had to listen to my boy Luke had to listen to the album in full. And I was just like, it was like a 20 minute drive there and back.
So we listened to like most of the album. I was like, damn, this is so good.
And I've been listening to it every single morning. It is so underrated, like by me, obviously, but the culture let me rate it under.
Like it wasn't shoved in my face. It should have been.
Every collab is better than the next. The Luke Holmes one is so good.
The Laney Wilson one is so good. The Ernest one, that ain't the devil I know.
It's so good. And honestly, the Jelly Roll one, and I have not like been moved by Jelly Roll's music.
I think a lot of people like are immediately drawn to it. He definitely like has like a cult-like fandom.
And it just sort of like passed over me let's hear it for the losers it's so good it's made a jelly roll fan out of me like this album i can't believe i like lived like i lived with it for months and did nothing about it like it's so good it's so funny because i have different favorites than you from the album like Wrong Ones with Tim McGraw. sing it for me but them wrong keep looking at me so good goes so hard the dolly parton one i really like sweet sweet and then also on the album post has a song just posty himself he you know put himself out there because i do feel like sometimes you know he hides behind these collabs a little bit yep what don't belong to me what don't belong to me what don't belong to me love also if you like that jelly roll song there's one other jelly roll song in jelly roll catalog that I know we listen to it every time we're in your car well just because I play my like songs and that was the first one when you were here yes Yes, yes.
You ain't nothing but a liar.
There was also one song I did not like.
I can't remember it.
Why focus on the negative?
I just wanted to say I apologize to Malone and the entire Maloners.
That was wrong of me to sit on it.
It's actually amazing.
It's one of the best country albums this year.
Like he should be nominated for Grammy of the Year album,
country album of the year. I'm down.
Like it's really parge. Really parge.
I'm sorry it took me so long to get here. Inappropriate.
Well, you're here. We're happy to have you.
That's all that matters. And you're really not that late, like considering.

Let's hear it for the losers our next story apparently bachelor starred matt james has blindsided and humiliated his ex-girlfriend rachel kirkennell with the breakup post i have so as we announced announced yesterday Matt James posted the world's weirdest breakup announcement out of nowhere when the day before 12 hours prior they were posting pizza in London pizza in London which could have been pizza in London last week but still you don't post something when you've within the same 24 hour cycle as your breakup post and also you don't post your breakup post less than 24 hours after you've broken up and also you don't post your breakup post with a geotag location and you don't tag your ex in it and you don't use a photo that's like literally not representative of your relationship at all oh and then have like a really weird confusing caption about god not that there's anything confusing about god but like it was definitely like a unique route to take strategically it was a unique route but typically like there's time in between when you actually break up I love what you're doing with the pen so if you're broke up you look like seriously a teacher I love it no and I'm like on the board of the there's a lot to follow here you break up and then you hope that things are quiet and nobody realizes so that you could process a little bit you wouldn't post new content with your ex because you guys are heartbroken and you're misleading people and then you would post your breakup announcement but there's too much crossover in the windows here so it's hard to parse out what happened however team Kirkinald a couple things are coming out do you say Kirkinald or Kirkconnell I feel like I used to say Kirkconnell but then I remember like every time I would hear her last name pronounced it was not how I pronounced now I think I say and now I think I say Rachel Kirkenell. I think that's how people say it.
So I'm just trying something on. I like that she doesn't correct anyone.
Yeah, I'm trying something on. Do your worst.
I'm probably pronouncing it like the way I normally wouldn't and it's still wrong. Yeah, that's so us.
Even when we try. So sources are saying that she was blindsided and humiliated by this breakup post she thinks it's just as weird as everyone else does she didn't know he was going to do that and definitely wouldn't have approved of it if she did and that's like what her friends have leaked to the sun i don't know how much i believe that but she also liked a that's why that's why the sun came up with these fake sources right because they were like they could see Rachel's self because she liked a comment that basically said like guys she was so blindsided and I think at first people took it as like she was blindsided by the breakup but if you really think about the context of their relationship it would make more sense that actually she broke up with him because the way it was going for him he didn't have to propose everything's good I got my girl we're making content like but you know a woman is more sensitive to the timelines and I think maybe she like finally realized like the lack of potential and the lack of a future to really ever get married and she had made the really tough decision to break up with him and then he in retaliation like decided to blind because even if you have like a contentious breakup as a public as public figures like you sort of align on how to announce just to like minimize any sort of drive to minimize this but he goes rogue and shares his unique I I actually that wasn't I don't think she broke up with him oh you think he broke? I think he broke up with her and then also posted about it prematurely without telling her.
So she's like heartbroken. And now everybody knows, kind of like Brianna Chicken Fry.
There's a lot of Zach Brian. Just the way Brianna Chicken Fry was blindsided by the announcement.
Not necessarily the breakup. They were having issues for a while.
They broke up a month before. Blindsided by the fact that she wouldn't even have a few days to just process it before everybody knew the news so I can see being blindsided maybe not by a breakup like you're in the relationship like you know what's happening but by the fact that someone would put it out there long before they needed to no one was like hey we haven't seen from Matt and Rachel in a while yeah I am choosing to think that she broke up with him I don't know why he would have broken up with her.
Like he was, they were in a really happy, I think, relationship. Yeah, it made in the shade.
And a man who's like not being pressured after four years. And then I think like, because also like the subtext of a lot of their videos, whenever being asked, or even they went on a podcast talking about it, it was like always jokey.
Like, oh, Rachel wants me to, like, excuse me. So I could see her sort of reaching her limit there and breaking up with him.
And in retaliation, him posting this thing, like a sort of a vindictive thing to do because the Zach Bryant of it all, to break up with someone and then also like take control of the public, like that's so mean. And we now know he was like an emotionally abusive person.
I don't think Matt James is like that. I think he was like a selfish boyfriend, but I don't think he's like an evil person.
So to do both, to break up with someone and then also take control of the public, that's a really mean thing to do. But I could see him being hurt and angry and wanting to retaliate and being like, well, I'm going to post it on Instagram first.
Yeah. I also think sometimes relationships run their course and people can end things amicably and then also be broken up, but still communicating about how they want to share it with world I think that's what happened with Paige and Craig I think he knew she was going to do a podcast about it right and share and they were on and he knew that it would be however many days or weeks after they broke up and that you get on the same page because like that is the thing that you have to factor into a public relationship so when someone doesn't do that even if you if you're not boyfriend and girlfriend anymore, like that was still your best friend at one point.
Treat them with a little respect. I completely agree.
So I took her liking that comment as her being blindsided simply by the announcement, not by the breakup. Yeah.
And let me tell you, home girl is active on social media. She liked one of my Tik TOKs this morning.
Oh, and not to make everything about me, but me and Ben, Ben thought it was so weird too. And like Ben is friends with Matt.
So like we were like, Matt unfollowed both me and Ben. We didn't know, we don't know when, but I was like, maybe like he's obviously going through something because- Because he's obviously being crazy.
Unfollowed Ben and I, I don't know if it was like this week, but I haven't checked ever. Definitely not this week.
So it could have been like a year ago and I wouldn't know, but like, excuse me. Now you're mad.
But maybe, because I know Rachel, I think, is like an OG toaster. Maybe like Ben and I remind him of Rachel.
Not me, like literally making this breakup about me. I think he unvalued you a while ago and it's unrelated to this breakup.
Yeah, I think so too. But I wanted to center myself and just let everyone know, like, he unfollowed me.
Who unfollows people these days? He's days he's in a bad place clearly struggling no you only unfollow someone when they offend you yeah when you really just like casually you don't casually unfollow someone that's why even when I'm like this person no longer serves me I follow them like at a different time and then we just grew in different directions like I have such a hard time unfollowing because it's such a fuck you it is and it's really unnecessary I don't fuck it's like, I don't fuck you. I don't fuck you.
I just don't fuck with you. Yeah.
So I would love to know what I did to Matt James. But that's actually something.
You hurt him. That's something funny with the new TikTok ban is in the last couple of days, I have unfollowed people.
I'm not going to spend my last days engaging with people I don't fuck with. Now it's like, who cares? But in general, I agree with your unfollowing philosophy.
But on TikTok, right now it's like the Wild West. Everybody's just like- You gotta live like you're dying.
Exactly. And I've actually started to block people who like, I don't know at all, but whose faces bother me, you know? Oh, I love that.
Yeah. We should be doing that.
That's something that's like a lesson we should apply. It's so extreme, like to block someone, but like, it's not, I'm not blocking because I hate you.
I just like your face and your content are terrible. And like, I don't don't want to see it anymore no and because TikTok shoves people down your throat who you like have said I don't like this person but they're like no they're bad for you watch more yeah um you have to go out of your way to block them they're bad for you watch more that is the TikTok that's what you have to block on TikTok like on reels they're like oh you didn't watch enough of that let's give you something else yes yes they're really cater likes, not your dislikes.
Yeah. They're catering to your likes.
Yeah. Do you want to amend what you said about Zach, Matt James being hacked? Oh yeah, I was wrong.
Oh, okay. Cool.
Oh yeah. No longer feeling that way.
I still feel like it was the weirdest thing on the planet, but after the hours went by where no correction was made, I was like, oh no, this is real. So then I had to start like analyzing the situation with no longer with that disbelief you know yeah I also for a few hours yesterday thought that maybe it was a prank some people were like maybe he lost fantasy football and like this was the dare that you have to like post this breakup announcement and like that's why nobody was saying anything about it because like Rachel kind of has to just like let him do it for 24 hours or something.
But now I no longer think that because she's liking these comments.
And that just proves how strange the announcement was because when couples announced that they get-
Nobody thought Jessica Alba was pranking us.
Divorce on a dare.
Like the theories that came out of this are like,
no, they're actually announcing an engagement.
This is a clue.
Like the theories on TikTok,
because if it was a normal announcement,
people would have just started processing it.
But the fact that there was such disbelief,
myself included, and it caused people to like actually conspiracy theorize just proves how weird it was. No, it was an enigma wrapped in a riddle and prayer.
But it ended up being true. That's the weirdest.
That to me, that's what I'm shocked at. Like it was real.
I'm excited to hear from Rachel. Oh, big time.
Take your time. Oh, sorry.
I'm here and I'm. The toast welcomes you with open arms, open invitation.
And maybe you can tell me why Matt unfollowed us. Oh.
Ooh. Our next story, a little Hollywood news.
Cameron Diaz has a new movie coming out. I'm so glad you brought up Cameron Diaz because I walked past a billboard for her movie.
It was getting too long till we last brought her up.
Not only that,
like she doesn't fart without the toast
like making it headline news.
We are obsessed with her.
And every time she comes out of retirement to do a movie,
it's for a purpose.
And it's like, she didn't work
and then she made the other woman.
And like, we understood why she took,
you know, that month.
Of course, that's a story that needs to be told.
The trailer for this movie looks so unbelievably stupid. I to imagine she's getting paid 20 million dollars like because she has a perfect record when it comes to films like what the hell is this dumb action movie on netflix with who jamie foxx right well they have she loves working with jamie she does she does she does they've been in two movies.
She, so this is what she said about her return to Hollywood.
And if, you know, she's going to do it, is this it for her?
Right, right, right.
She said, I don't know how I view it.
It's hard to say.
If I say it, then it becomes this thing.
I reserve the right to say no to doing a movie ever again.
And I reserve the right to say yes if I decide to.
I'm not defining anything.
I'm just open to whatever makes sense for me and my family at any given moment.
Such a healthy outlook.
She's in such a privileged position. Like, she doesn't have to work.
She has that, you know, Shrek money, 100 mil on the bank. She gets to work on her passion projects, her Aveline wine.
But, and I love when she does decide to step out and do work again. I just really don't understand this one.
Yeah, well, I think it's that Netflix money, but also she said about Jamie Foxx, I thought that if I was ever going to come back and do a movie the only person I'd come back and do it with would be this guy seriously I had other opportunities along the way and I was always saying no I'm not doing it I've told you well what Jamie asked Jamie oh I can do a movie with Jamie and also her last movie that she did was Annie with Jamie Foxx no Annie was after the other woman no No way. Yes, Annie was 2014.
I'll never forget where I was. Nobody was more impacted by the Jamie Foxx Annie reboot, Quiven J'Nay Wallace, than Jackie Oshry.
It's so fucking good. Like that is how you take a classic tale and modernize it.
It's true. People really slept on it because they're like, oh my gosh, what are they doing with Annie? Another Annie.
But you had to, and also not just another Annie.
You had to be there.
Not just another Annie, but a modern Annie.
Because typically, like, we're telling the story of Orphan Annie, Great Depression, FDR.
True.
But this was no, like, Mr. Stacks.
Right.
Not Mr. Warbucks.
Right.
It was modern Manhattan.
Right.
Annie's in a helicopter, not a horse and carriage.
That's so true.
They did something with it. Like, Miss Hannigan, like.
That's so true. They did something with it.
Like, Miss Hannigan, like, she's an influencer.
Right, right, right.
She has a YouTube channel.
So it was really, really good considering.
Okay, that's actually a really interesting spin on it.
I only saw it once, and I remember being like, oh, it's good.
And now I just, like, talk about it because, like, we always talk about it.
But I actually don't know.
And maybe I'm due for a rewatch.
And because I told you that it's good, like, you can believe that it is.
Agreed, agreed.
And Sia did the music.
Right.
So there's original new songs.
That are amazing.
Thank you. actually don't know and maybe i'm due for a rewatch i told you that it's good like you can believe that it agreed agreed and sia did the music right there's original new songs that are amazing that's slay yeah and they don't get their shine she did like a take on you're never fully dressed without a smile like pussy poppin anthem and so the fact that cameron diaz loves jamie fox so much like makes this whole thing better but let me just say like the movie looks really stupid and I I feel like annoyed that like Cameron Diaz is like this perfect track record and really like a flawless resume tell me one bad movie she's made well I'm gonna go to her Rolodex the thing about Cameron Diaz is it's not every single movie it was like a perfect script like the other woman no she makes it she brings to the movie it's true like I don't even know if i would have loved bad teacher as much with a different bad teacher right right right that's a good that's a hot take so i do think like something about mary the sweetest thing like everything but like what happens in vegas could have just been like another obnoxious stupid movie but she makes it special so i actually think this movie would be like a cute action movie because she is enjoyable to watch and just has effervescence and verve up on the screen the movie is what cameron makes it it's really really true so there's rock there's no real flops because she doesn't flop okay that's a really good point i like that bad teacher too excuse me i heard they're turning it into like a series or something without her excuse me oh I'm sorry she made a bad movie once what sex tape with Jason Segel okay while I agree she made a bad movie the culture actually loves that movie the movie was bad and I they're two of my favorite I know and they were in bad teacher together and why didn't they make it a sequel to Bad Teacher where they grow up and then they have a sex tape leak into the cloud.
They made a bad movie. But have you seen Jason Siegel on the Today Show like his last appearance which was like he knew the last time he was going to see Hoda.
He like said something like literally so nice. Everybody was saying nice things to Hoda but like his was so genuine.
He got like a little teary-eyed and just was like talking about how like she's just such a wonderful person. I feel like it was a real insight into like the mensch that he is.
Please, if you have a story about Jason's ego, like I don't want to hear it. Like I'm choosing to believe that he's a mensch.
It like actually almost brought a tear to my eye. It was just like a random moment, but I feel like it was really indicative of the type of person he is.
It was very genuine and very sweet. Are you going to tell us? What do you mean? What he said? I don't know.
It was like something, whatever. Like the way he said it was like, so everybody said, you have been amazing.
This building's not the same without you. And it's all really nice.
But he has this sort of courteousness, courtesy, excuse me, about him. That it's, it was just so, it was so raw.
It was so real. Everybody was just like saying these rehearsed things like that they felt like they had to say to Hoda, you know? Yeah.
His was real. That's really beautiful.
I have to go listen, but I also just saw a headline, Cameron Diaz finally comes out of retirement 10 years after sex tape center packing. Oh, okay.
I wonder if that's what it was. Definitely not.
Like it wasn't that bad. No, Claudia, it's really, really bad.
No, but like it did well. Like.
Yeah. It wasn't like an embarrassing public flop.
That's true. Okay.
Well, anyway, she's back for now. Might come back again.
Might not. TBD.
Cameron does what Cameron wants. I love that.
And on a quiet night, I might watch this movie. That sounds like a light fair I would like.
On a desperate night, for sure.
You know what? I'm just going to add that to the
content list because otherwise I will completely forget
about it. Yeah.
You know? For sure. Get your book.
Get your book, girl.
In one ear, out the other. Get that pen.
You know what they say about the pen? Mightier than the sword.
Whoever wrote that,
never heard of Hamas, you know? Right. your pen I know yikes was that the fifth story or the fourth it was the fourth well we're moving slow today we are our fifth story like should be a quickie though because um Brody Jenner says that he got a sincere apology from Caitlyn over feeling abandoned during Kardashian's fame yeah this is like a really dark part when you think of like Caitlyn there's so much from the Caitlyn lore but we really think of it through the context through the lens of the Kardashians but like uh her prior like life with all those kids like was actually extremely dark yeah there's just a lot she's lived a lot of lives yeah and so not every single chapter was probably her proudest.
But Brody is actually on the show Special Forces, World's Toughest Test. Love that.
And on Wednesday's episode, he revealed that he received a real sincere apology from his parent just recently. He said, it was the first time in my life that I've ever gotten an apology.
You know, I'm sorry for not being there. He told viewers that Caitlyn expressed remorse honestly, and that meant a lot to him.
He went on to explain why he felt abandoned by Caitlin, whom he referred to with he, him pronouns, as Caitlin has publicly given her blessing for her kids to do so in the past. Oh, wow.
Yeah, because I think also when they do talk about the past. Yeah, Caitlin is very lax.
When they talk about the past, I think sometimes they'll even, you know even you know refer refer to as the old name which i'm not going to do because i one time we one time just we said in a page six article that had elliot page's original name and we got accused of being like transphobic we literally referenced an article and we put the link to the article in our in our description which we do for every article that we reference and we were accused of dead naming and being transphobic like excuse me not even that claudia the story was that elliot page had transitioned to elliot page so if i never said the person's previous name you would have no idea who i'm talking about no it was so like seriously that was one of the craziest backlashes we ever got like we all checking you didn't even say it we just they they didn't like that we referenced it in the buy in the description yeah I said blank page has
become headline it was page six oh yeah of course like it was their headline but if we say we never
even said who became Elliot Page like you would say who is Elliot Page all's that to say Caitlin
is very understanding and very lax yes so Brody said quote I'd randomly see him him at the time you know here and there but my mom Linda would tell me that I would write on cards why doesn't my dad call me on my birthday he said I had an incredible mother Caitlyn wasn't around that much they split and then he met a woman Kris Jenner she had kids as well the woman that he met they had kids together referencing Kendall and Kylie. Oh yeah.
And Brody
were a woman Chris Jenner she had kids as well the woman that he met they had kids together referencing Kendall and Kylie oh yeah um and Brody recalled Caitlin going through her own struggles transitioning which was documented on keeping up at the time he said it was all that was put on tv and there were these moments that we would have that was all films and it was felt very invasive and not very genuine I do want to say that totally irrelevant but this reminds me of like that time period where actually when the Kardashians e-show was like really popping off and Brody and his brother Brandon like they before Caitlyn transitioned they would go on like vacations together like remember that episode where Brody got a half job yeah I like that you know what I was talking about that was a kind of a golden age of television like we didn't appreciate it at the time, but now the Hollywood significance of the Jenners, both Brody and Kendall, and then the Kardashians, and then it runs so deep. That was so crazy.
That was such good TV. Yeah.
No, now it's just a fact of life, but it is so crazy. I loved that.
And we didn't have, we didn't know at the time, like how dark the past was between Caitlyn and the original, the OG kids. Like, let's talk about Casey Jenner.
The first, before Linda, before Caitlyn married and had Brody and Brandon Jenner, he, excuse me, she had a wife before that because it's all in Caitlyn's, that Diane Saw sawyer thing yeah and i was like wait who's casey jenner there is an older daughter uh i don't know where she is but hopefully yeah they've also made amends also brody is a parent now i don't know if you follow along with him but he has a daughter and he's doing special forces so that is nice i That is nice. I'm happy for the family.
Those were the Fast Five Stories.
And before we wrap up for the week
before the long weekend,
Jackie and I are going to do
Queenie and Weenie of the Week.
One of our favorite things to do here every Friday,
a great way to wrap up the week
is to sort of look back and reflect
and give out two awards,
Queenie of the Week and Weenie of the Week.
They're pretty self-explanatory.
Who is somebody who acted like a Queenie this week
and who is somebody that acted like a Weenie this week? This is a reminder. It's a seven-day title.
It's not that serious. Like, it's supposed to be fun.
Yes. So I'll go first.
My Queenie of the Week goes to Spencer and Heidi Pratt. My Queenie was Spencer, specifically.
Well, Heidi, for hitting number one on the Billboard dance charts, the two of them, like, they continue to, like, emerge every few years. And people are reminded of, like, how just funny and great and that's because they like really have it I remember when Spencer came on our show when we were the breath and I seriously had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard at everything he was saying like my I never laughed that hard anytime ever and they're always like working hard and the cream rises and I just feel like every few years everyone has has this Renaissance with them.
And we shouldn't forget how like funny and fantastic. And they also went through it.
So I feel like every time they reemerge, they get even more vindicated from like their Hills villain. Cause most people who like love Spencer now, like weren't even socially conscious with the Hills, but like they were like the most hated couple in America.
And they were making a lot of money and they were really famous, but like that was hard. So I feel like get revindicated especially like back to the beach I feel like everybody was just re-watching the hills the hills of the city and all those shows and like you were re-watching it now as adults it's like they literally did nothing wrong and by the way the proof is in the pudding they are still married right and like the a lot of the issues was that Heidi was choosing Spencer like over her friends and stuff but it's like that she they're still married like they're that're that in love.
They're each other's person. So the proof is in the pudding.
Before that, when Spencer's like Snapchat got really popular, like he goes through these waves of like people remembering. And so they're obviously going through a very hard time right now, but they are just like so entertaining and in love.
And I'm just happy for the success that they're having amidst tragedy. Yeah, I decided to make him my Queenie of the Week for all those reasons that you stated, but also because like the way he's chosen to build back his life while never taking like never he's really I know it's like funny because like he's the one posting all this content, but it's all about Heidi.
Like he is propping up the woman in his life and he's just like doing what a man should do to, you know, make money, build a life. And like, I'm sure on top of that, the emotional like damage emotional like damage of losing like I can't even imagine so they're doing all of that while dealing with that hard stuff and I just love the approach he's taken while like centering his wife like my wife is a star my wife is hot my wife is everything he hasn't been saying like me and Heidi it's just Heidi's song Heidi's this Heidi's music video like I just love it yeah agreed what are you writing down your queen, because remember, I'm starting to write all of them.
Let the record books reflect. Let the record reflect.
Put it in the Toast Museum. Oh, my weenie.
Oh, also, I wanted to give an honorable mention for Queenie of the Week to Tart. Like, they really gave me so much enjoyment this week.
I was, like, watching. I spent so much time making content, reading content, watching content about the Tart trip.
It it was fucking funny and I enjoyed every minute of it so honorable mention but speaking of TikTok my weenie of the week is actually like all the people who are just like sort of mindlessly signing up for red note um one because that's really not the way like social media apps take off it's you can't force it so everybody's like red notes the new TikTok it's not next tiktok if there is one like it will happen very organically so you can't plan for these things and like the reminds me of threads and also what was that other one lemon lemon eight so lemonada lemon eight the last time tiktok got banned well not banned but it was like 30 days. Everybody signed up for Lemonade.
They're like, it's the next big thing.
And did it take off?
No, you can't predict what the next big thing is going to be.
And like, you're sort of not understanding the threat.
Like the Supreme Court doesn't just ban apps for a reason. So it's like, yeah, we can think it's stupid or annoying or wrong,
but like there's valid reasons.
So just to like march into the Chinese army,
like red note, sign me up, terms and conditions, here's my data.
Like with like almost no care in the world, it's kind of weaning.
Thank you. reason so just to like march into the Chinese army like red note sign me up terms and conditions here's my data like with like almost no care in the world it's kind of weenie yeah I will not be signing up for red note don't look for me there yeah even threads that got millions of users in one day the biggest app growth of all time in 24 hours zilk zero zilch you can't predict these things that's why tiktok was such an anomaly it was musically and all these kids and the next thing it's a $400 billion app.
You can't predict these things. That's why TikTok was such an anomaly.
It was musically and all these kids. And the next thing you know, it's a $400 billion app.
Like you can't predict it. So good luck with what's going to happen to your phone if you have Red Note.
But it ain't going to be me. My we is Matt James for the announcement, the confusion, not consulting with his woman.
And now actually makes you appreciate those joint statements that are like like we have decided to go our separate ways because that just shows like respect for your partner and this shows like going rogue and disrespect so that's my weenie and also unfollowing like two fabulous creators is also weenie like behavior two fabulous creators he's obviously like not interested in queenie like content and just weenie like content well that's what will serve him i wonder if she still follows him oh that's a good call check because that's grounds for unfollowing i made sure she's still following me i'm like maybe they both hate me she still follows you let's see yet don't worry she still follows because she's a queen she still follows matt well that'll be like a big thing when she unfollows him and she she didn't ask for this drama. So she's not prepared.
Yeah, she's not prepared. So just take it easy, Rach.
Enjoy the long weekend. Yeah.
