Speaker 1 Okay, we're so excited to be doing this extra special episode with Depop because we're going to be answering all of your fashion questions.

Speaker 4 We're going to be the fashion police.

Speaker 1 I can't wait to see like how you interpret it and how I interpret it.

Speaker 4 Interpret it is such a nice word to use. Yeah.
I'm on my Depop shit. Like I'm currently looking at these 90s vintage sunglasses that I need.
That's so

Speaker 4 you.

Speaker 5 Yeah, they.

Speaker 3 You know, I don't like any sunglasses.

Speaker 4 And so yeah.

Speaker 4 You guys submitted fashion questions. I feel like some might be directed towards you, but I'm going to answer it anyway because I don't care.

Speaker 4 Because I'm not going to let people know.

Speaker 1 This is a matriarchy here.

Speaker 4 Yeah, like I'm going to take up space.

Speaker 5 Yeah.

Speaker 4 Depop is the home of circular fashion where taste recognizes taste. I love circular fashion.

Speaker 4 I love discovering things that aren't just like in the stores where people are like, this is what you have to buy.

Speaker 1 You love a challenge. I love a challenge.

Speaker 5 You love being creative. I love being creative.

Speaker 3 You love making it your own.

Speaker 4 Paige, you look so snatched. What is this top?

Speaker 1 Okay, you picked this out for for me, this sweater. It's like tight here.
And then wait, actually, I don't know.

Speaker 3 It's Alexander Wayne.

Speaker 1 And I actually do really like it. And then I have these little like gray shorts on.

Speaker 4 I'm obsessed with this.

Speaker 1 Which, if I had tights.

Speaker 4 Oh, my God. Just underwear and tights?

Speaker 1 Well, no, I have shorts on.

Speaker 3 Oh.

Speaker 4 Sorry, no, it's your thing.

Speaker 3 And no bottoms.

Speaker 4 And no bottoms.

Speaker 4 Wait, are we done with the underwear look? Is it over?

Speaker 1 It's definitely not over. Like, I feel like micro shorts are still happening.
I just feel like I've done it so much.

Speaker 1 I did it before people were doing it, so I feel like people are sick of seeing me in it.

Speaker 4 Got it. So, like, you're sitting on the bench for that.
Anyway, I'm wearing lacoste. Wait, it's giving, like, this is what we'd wear in middle school.

Speaker 3 Yeah.

Speaker 1 Um, if you had a second one on top of it, and both collars up.

Speaker 3 And collars up.

Speaker 4 I'm obsessed with polos for fall and buttoning it up all the way to the top, trench coat button to the top. Yeah.
There's something about it that, like, it's so not sexy, it's sexy.

Speaker 1 Well, it's kind of like having a tie on without having a tie on.

Speaker 5 That's why I like it. You love a tie on.

Speaker 4 It's giving like an accountant who didn't go to college.

Speaker 5 Yeah.

Speaker 4 And let's continue.

Speaker 6 Hi, Paige and Hannah.

Speaker 6 My question:

Speaker 6 Do we prescribe to skinny jeans coming back? I know Paige loves a little cigarette pant capri vibe, but I'm talking full-length skinny jeans. Do we prescribe yes or no?

Speaker 6 Because I I fear I have thrown them all out.

Speaker 6 Thank you.

Speaker 1 I don't think she needs them unless she's like really trying to do like a riding boot and she's tucking them into her riding boot.

Speaker 4 If she has a horse? Yeah.

Speaker 1 Well, riding boots are really back.

Speaker 4 Can you tuck like a regular jean into a riding boot?

Speaker 3 Into the riding boot?

Speaker 1 You can cut. You can tuck like a bootleg jean into a riding boot.

Speaker 4 Okay. Cause I hate

Speaker 4 skinny jeans, but I do love a high

Speaker 4 I don't know any of the terminology but a high boot

Speaker 5 with a jeans

Speaker 1 like a flat boot no a high heel boot

Speaker 1 with like a like a thigh high yeah

Speaker 4 yeah not no not up to the thigh like just just up to the knee over and a heel

Speaker 4 oh yeah that's no don't do that don't do that

Speaker 4 wait you never put a jean tucked into a I did in 2008.

Speaker 1 Yes, I think it was a great look.

Speaker 5 Okay, 2008 has been.

Speaker 3 We've moved past.

Speaker 1 I think all of those styles are coming back, but they're a little bit more like modernized and elevated.

Speaker 4 It's giving, you love saying elevated? Yeah, I do. It's giving girls with their pumpkin spice lattes on the farm.

Speaker 3 Yeah.

Speaker 1 I think you could do skinny jeans and a thigh-high boot and a massive like faux fur jacket.

Speaker 3 Love. Love that.

Speaker 4 Love. I love saying faux fur too.

Speaker 3 Yeah. Faux fur.

Speaker 3 A faux.

Speaker 3 I like that laugh.

Speaker 7 That got me so good.

Speaker 3 Okay, great.

Speaker 4 So, skinny jeans burn them.

Speaker 3 No.

Speaker 4 Oh, wait. Was I

Speaker 4 you said yes for a riding boot. Yeah.

Speaker 5 If you have a horse. Yeah.

Speaker 4 Or if you don't have a horse, it's fine.

Speaker 1 Yes. And I think it was the thigh high.
Whatever you suggested.

Speaker 4 All the way to the thigh, not what I suggested.

Speaker 4 Write it down, guys. Write it down.
This is class. Welcome to class.

Speaker 8 You guys, this is a long time coming. I've needed some help with this.

Speaker 8 I don't care what I look like unless my picture is being taken, and I want to.

Speaker 8 I want to look cute on a daily basis, even if I'm going to a grocery store looking like a tired ass mom, because honestly, I just have a dog.

Speaker 8 I don't have any children, but I'm always out here with leggings and sweatpants. So, any tips on how to throw together a cute but comfy outfit?

Speaker 4 Thank you. And I'm going to relate to you on this one.

Speaker 3 Okay. I'm going to pass.

Speaker 1 Money, you take this one.

Speaker 3 This seems where I'll be rallying.

Speaker 1 I would say it all has to do with like an outfit formula.

Speaker 1 Like a perfect example is when I was like peak first dating, like in my 20s, I would wear the same outfit on every first date because I was like, it's too stressful to figure out a whole new outfit.

Speaker 3 So I was at a good algorithm.

Speaker 1 And so

Speaker 1 I think it's an outfit formula. So you have to find a pair of pants that are like your style, your comfort level, and then literally get them in a couple different colors.

Speaker 1 So whether it's like a jean or like a cargo.

Speaker 4 We can't be doing jean going to the store.

Speaker 4 What? Jean's going to the store is like uncomfortable.

Speaker 1 Well, what do you want to put her in?

Speaker 4 Oh, I love that we're dressing her.

Speaker 1 Where Merby, what are you doing?

Speaker 4 Me and you having to work as stylists together.

Speaker 3 Which are you putting her in?

Speaker 4 I'm like, we're in front of the client right now.

Speaker 7 She said she doesn't want to be in sweats and leggings anymore. Oh, yeah.

Speaker 4 I would add on. To add on,

Speaker 4 you need a uniform. I love a track pant.

Speaker 3 Okay.

Speaker 4 Like, I mean, your Daphne one with the lining on the side. I love a line on the side.
And then you...

Speaker 5 What would you add to that?

Speaker 1 Actually, the Daphne pants are very streetwear.

Speaker 4 Yeah, see, I love streetwear for the streets.

Speaker 1 Okay, so my outfit formula when I'm like, okay, like in the fall, where I'm like, it's a Wednesday afternoon and I'm running out, but I want to look cute.

Speaker 1 I wear like a straight-leg jean, a ballerina flat, a t-shirt, and like some type of cute little jacket.

Speaker 4 Like a trench.

Speaker 1 Could be a trench, could be like a crop jacket, could be a crop trench.

Speaker 4 Could be a fuffer crop trench.

Speaker 1 It could be so many different things. Yeah.
I think you have to first pick out your shoe. I would suggest working from the bottom up.
Real?

Speaker 4 Okay, guys, this is actually class right now. Write this down.
I've never worked bottom up. I've never even considered what my shoes are going to be.
My shoes are actually none of my business.

Speaker 1 Because your shoes dictate your pants, not the other way around.

Speaker 4 What?

Speaker 3 That's just, I just made that up. I think I've been doing anything.

Speaker 7 Quote me on it, though.

Speaker 1 Wait, the other day I sent Hannah a voicemail and I go, listen to this quote by me. Then I go, that wasn't what I thought of.

Speaker 3 She must have brought it up. And I messed it up.

Speaker 4 No, it's your quote. You can't mess it up.
Right.

Speaker 4 Do you pick your shoe based on like what you're going to be doing that day or or based on like what your aesthetic, your vibe is?

Speaker 1 What my aesthetic is.

Speaker 4 Not like if you're walking eight miles.

Speaker 1 Not my business.

Speaker 1 The location, not my business.

Speaker 4 And if you guys don't know this, my favorite all-time thing about Paige is that she once told me

Speaker 4 she can get any shoe size to fit her foot.

Speaker 4 And that's her special skill. You're a Michelin star chef.

Speaker 3 I fit any shoe size.

Speaker 4 And I've seen it happen.

Speaker 3 And it's fucking crazy.

Speaker 1 Ask me if I can wear an eight. Sure can.
I'm a seven.

Speaker 4 And you could wear like a five, too.

Speaker 1 I've gone six, six point five times.

Speaker 3 I've never seen you walk awkwardly. I also haven't seen you walk before.

Speaker 3 I'm like, oh, she's not walking today.

Speaker 4 I also, there's something about me where like

Speaker 4 I either am like dressed up or I'm dressed down. I don't have an in-between.

Speaker 1 Yeah. So like,

Speaker 4 but I do understand what she's saying. I don't think I'm the right person to answer this.
However, I do love a street style of like, get like a cute crew neck hoodie that you like to wear.

Speaker 4 Put it over a t-shirt. Have your track pants and like some sneaker.

Speaker 3 What's a sneaker hoodie? Oh, like a crew neck, like a sweatshirt?

Speaker 5 Yeah, a crew neck sweatshirt that you like over.

Speaker 3 With what pants? Track pants.

Speaker 4 Okay.

Speaker 2 And just like I said, I wear that to like the airport.

Speaker 4 What you wear to the airport is what I wear day to day.

Speaker 3 Okay, Grace, next question.

Speaker 10 Hi, Hannah. Hi, Paige.
Longtime giggler here. I just moved to New York City, post-grad from Wisconsin.
Go Badgers.

Speaker 10 But I wanted to know what fashion staples you guys think I need for living in the city now that I'm here. I'm obviously thinking like a ballet flat, a trench coat, perhaps, maybe some scarves.

Speaker 10 But anyways, let me know because obviously the fashion in Madison is quite different than here in New York. So please let me know.
Anyways, love you both.

Speaker 1 Bye.

Speaker 4 So just to give you some color and context, in Madison, there's two types of people, the Coasties and the Scannies. So the Scannies are people from Wisconsin.
They call themselves Sconies.

Speaker 4 They're locals, and

Speaker 4 they all grew up with everyone being very similar. So they all kind of wear the same thing.

Speaker 1 North Face.

Speaker 4 So that is actually what the Coasties wear. Because that's like the Long Island girls who come in.
So they're wearing all the Uggs and the North Face.

Speaker 4 I feel like you don't want to dress like everyone else is dressing. I think you take little things that you like.

Speaker 3 Yes.

Speaker 1 Which is why Depop is perfect, especially if you are moving from somewhere else, because I feel like it could be overwhelming. She's probably like, I need a whole new wardrobe.

Speaker 1 I live in New York City now.

Speaker 4 Yeah, and you don't just want to go to a big brand store and buy what everyone

Speaker 4 and spend a ton of money buying what everyone's going to be wearing. You don't want people to be like, I just got that.

Speaker 5 Yeah.

Speaker 4 Like you want to find stuff on Depop.

Speaker 1 I think where she should start is, because it is starting to get cold, coats.

Speaker 1 I feel like living in New York City is all about your coat.

Speaker 4 True. I didn't realize that till very recently.
And even if my outfit was cute, I'd ruin it because I'd have my coat on.

Speaker 1 So I would say like three

Speaker 1 really good coats that you are going to wear every day. So like a longer trench.

Speaker 1 I would say like a cropped like wool jacket, like an easy throw-on wool jacket.

Speaker 1 And then

Speaker 1 not even like this isn't even like fashion-wise. You need like a really good winter coat.

Speaker 3 Yeah, you need like like a fluffy

Speaker 4 like inhale, you'll be okay.

Speaker 1 Yeah, but I feel like one needs to be a trench, it could even be like a leather trench, one needs to be like a cropped, cute, warmer jacket, and then like your full-on winter coat.

Speaker 4 I would also argue, have some fun with sunglasses.

Speaker 1 I kind of live by the rule that if you have your hair and makeup down, your outfit doesn't matter. And if your outfit is bad, you have to do your hair and makeup.

Speaker 4 So get glam.

Speaker 3 Yeah, and also

Speaker 3 get glam.

Speaker 4 I think you should take the first week, go to to like the park, go on the subway.

Speaker 1 Wait, this is actually really good.

Speaker 4 Sit out of the brownstones. Yeah.

Speaker 2 And just people watch.

Speaker 4 And this is where you go, okay, I feel like that's too far for me. That's right.
And try out some stuff.

Speaker 1 And it's very, like, I feel like that's the best for what are the shoes that everyone's wearing. Like, everyone's in loafers, everyone's in ballet flats.

Speaker 1 Also, like, you need a good leather jacket for New York City.

Speaker 4 You do need a good leather jacket.

Speaker 1 Deepop is really good for leather jackets because like 90s.

Speaker 1 eyes.

Speaker 4 Le Vivi's.

Speaker 1 90s leather jackets are really in. I feel like you can get a lot more of them on Depop than like a new one.

Speaker 4 Also, if you don't want to go to therapy, just go through all of your clothes. Like when you get out of college, you have to rebrand.
Like you're not that girl anymore.

Speaker 4 Purge your clothes and see how light you're going to feel in your life.

Speaker 1 There's nothing I love more than organizing it. Organizing and being able to then sell on Depop.

Speaker 1 It's almost like the organizing isn't as bad because you're like, oh, I'm making money.

Speaker 3 I'm going to make money doing this.

Speaker 4 Yeah, because if you're like, oh, I kind of want to keep it.

Speaker 4 But if you haven't worn it, if you haven't touched it, if you don't see yourself going outside in New York with it, sell that because someone will love it. There's also no seller fees on Depop.

Speaker 4 And as women in STEM, like, that's important. We love having multiple sources of income because you never know.

Speaker 4 You never know when you need it. You never know when you're going to get fired.

Speaker 1 And then once you've gotten rid of stuff, you can make these like kind of like mood boards on D-pop. And

Speaker 3 you love a mood board. Got me started on a mood board.
You love mood board. I love it.

Speaker 4 Because I'm a visual learner.

Speaker 1 And then you can like put outfits together and like see how they look.

Speaker 4 It's their new outfits feature, and you can share it with friends and you can like shop the mood board, which is so fun. Because one thing about me is I love a project.

Speaker 1 And that's like nice, like, hey, what are you wearing tonight? And you just like send your mood board.

Speaker 3 Oh my god.

Speaker 4 I know you're going out and it's like, we need a theme or we need to be like matching to some extent. Or like, does this work?

Speaker 4 And instead of having to do that awkward mirror pick, you just send them a Depop outfit.

Speaker 9 Hi, Paige. Hi, Hannah.
So I live in New York City, and every fall I struggle with finding cute going-out outfits.

Speaker 9 It's getting cold out, so I need to wear a jacket. And last season, I found myself like rotating over the same three leather jackets.

Speaker 9 So my question is, like, what are the girls wearing when we go out to the club or just like a dive bar?

Speaker 3 Something suitable that will also keep me warm.

Speaker 4 So there's two things going on here. First of all, are you risking that you are going to take your jacket off and you will get it stolen or lost?

Speaker 4 So that's a factor you have to factor in. Or are you saying, fuck it, I'd rather be freezing and not ruin my outfit with a coat?

Speaker 4 Or are you wearing a nice coat, going out and paying the valet guy to hold your coat check?

Speaker 5 Coat check.

Speaker 1 Everywhere you go has coat check in New York.

Speaker 3 I feel like. Okay.

Speaker 5 But yes. This is how we're going for that.

Speaker 1 Is there a time where like you get the wrong jacket back? Like that's only happened to me though like truly once. So, I don't upgrade.
Where

Speaker 1 are you?

Speaker 4 Did you upgrade it?

Speaker 3 I can't remember.

Speaker 1 I think it was like a Zara leather jacket.

Speaker 3 What coats are you wearing?

Speaker 1 Like, out? Yeah.

Speaker 1 Okay, if you want to wear a jacket and you're like, I don't care if this gets taken or I forget it, I always think like a black oversized blazer just like always goes with everything, whether you're wearing like a skirt and boots or you're wearing like leather pants, like it just always goes.

Speaker 1 I feel like leather jackets in the winter don't really keep you that warm, so I really don't gravitate towards them.

Speaker 1 I'm in my 30s, though. Like, I'm never not wearing a coat out when it's cold.

Speaker 5 Yeah, the good old days are over.

Speaker 3 Yeah.

Speaker 4 When that one guy gave me his coat and then he asked for it back in Madison, that was my villain origin story.

Speaker 1 Like a big leather trench, I feel like is in with like shoulder pads and then like a big faux fur. Like a weather shirt.

Speaker 5 I was going to say, I love a faux fur.

Speaker 1 Yeah, everyone wears fur in New York because

Speaker 3 black faux fur fur

Speaker 2 is perfect.

Speaker 1 Thank you, D-Pop, for making this bonus hotline episode possible. We are obsessed with you guys.
